Filament Preview crashes DAZ
Anyway to disable or delete the filament plug in from DAZ Studio?
Every time I try to use it, DAZ Studio ends immediately. No error, nothing.
I'm fine with the way things used to be.
Do I just avoid using it in the Preview, or can I free up resources by removing Filament entirely?
Filament bring out the Rendersvery good and honestly I think Filament would be fine to use if doing postwork anyway especially for comics
j.cade is Back! And brought the adorable Bette!I made a little very short Filament animation with Bette. I put it in my Dropbox. Can you see it?
Thats Amazing! :)
Also great filament still render too! Theoretically I should actually try experimenting with filament.
Here we go again - falling back on cpu rendering, yet againI was wrong. I don'T even have to load new assets, it already happens when I turn off assets in the scene. Even with the iray preview. I load the scene it renders on gpu, I hide one item, it falls back on cpu instantly.
Are you using Section Planes? How much memory does your GPU have, and what is in the scene? Do you avoid this if the Viewport is in a non-GPU mode (not Filament or iray) when you start the render? Are you closing earlier render windows before starting a new render?
New DS Filament Render EngineI just upgraded DAZ to the latest version and found out that it has this new feature. but unfortunately, it is not of much use because everything looks horrible unless you deliberately tweak your scene for this engine but then it will be not usable for iRay anymore
That's not true. All you need to do is adjust the Filament Draw Options Node to suit your taste - it doesn't affect the way the scene looks in Iray at all.
Go to Create >> New Filament Draw Options Node.

Select it in the Scene Tab and in the Parameters Tab adjust it's ISO Scale.
That brings the Filament Preview more in line with what you see in Iray.
Filament:

Iray:

And just for comparison, what most people USED TO USE for a preview draw style, texture shaded:

Filament preview is MUCH more in line with what you see with Iray.Filament bring out the RendersNot my first Filament render. But one I wanted to share. I'll be going back to it when Filament can use DOF.
There's a teeny-tiny little bit of postwork

I think Daz developers now need to make some effort in creating proper iray to filament (and also iray to 3gl) conversion system. because now the scene gets too light, too dark, individual item colors are way out of balance making this pretty much unusable.
Also considering the fact that there are like 5 rendering engines available It would be a good idea to add some kind of "alternate surfaces" option for easy switching between rendering engines and also to make everything properly displayed. even if this is just cosmetic, but it is quite unpleasant when your viewport looks like some abomination that does not even remotely represent the final result.
Filament is not intended as an Iray preview anymore than wireframe is.

Iray and Filament is like apple and orange. Iray preview viewport will represent the final Iray result.
Cosidering how super ugly is opengl viewport (not only ugly but marginaly dysfuctional because some areas get too dark to even see ) and the fact that this filament renderer is just as fast as opengl it can be used as opengl alternative.
and it works as preview prety adequate, probably even better than 3delight just that it need some tweaking
If daz products were optimized for at laest those 2 rendering engines or at lest to iray and viewport it coud not be such a pain to our eyes to work with daz.
If swithing betwen them was easier it may be even possible to do hybrid rendering where you render environment in filament and craracters in iray. then combine everything,
this is not even so much about performance but about the fact that we run out of GPU memory with super complex nature environments that ere not rendered great in iRay anyway.

AIUTO...CHI CONOSCE L’ITALIANO? PARTE DODICIAl momento mi vengono in mente solo 2 possibili cause:
Non so perchè....
AIUTO...CHI CONOSCE L’ITALIANO?
Why do YOU use DS instead of something else?DS is stupid-people friendly.
No, no, no, currently Filament is not friendly with hair etc. However somehow Wendyluvscatz makes her people Filament friendly along with their fur. Now her people are smarter than Filament, those people are smart and can make sounds like meow! hence smart-people are friendly with DS Filament.

Filament - wet skin, emissives, DOF?I just tried the new DAZ, and I'm quite fond of filament's speed :) However:
a) has anyone figured out yet how to make wet skin in filament? Iray tricks are not working
b) are emissives going to be supported in future releases?
c) why is the DOF not working with filament?
Thanks for any input :)
a) is the most easiest to do! just move reflections at 90% and anysotropic at some 55-75%
b) inside DS?, probably, because Filament Documentation consider emisives doable.
https://google.github.io/filament/Materials.html#materialmodels/litmodel/emissive
c) you can ask the creator of Filament for that on twitter @romainguy
Thanks a lot :)
Great news about the emissives, let's hope the DAZ team will get it working in no time :)

I see it - Very cute! :D I like that smile at the end. :)
Thanks for checking it out. Bette is a cutie.
