OctaneRender DS - render collectionAndrey Pestryakov said:Tropical Bundle. Average time to render - 25 minutes. Resolution 2311x1300. Titan, PMC 1000.
Hi Andrey I'm just wondering have you tried to use octane render in animation yet?
if so how are you key-framing the sequences in the time line :)?Art & Animations By Ivy SummersAndrey Pestryakov said:Ivy said:
Thanks Andrey I'm glad you enjoyed it.
About 8 weeks give or take a day or 2 - it tooks a long time to render it .
Also thank you for the advice on the water fall it was a great Idea.
the water pane i used the nerds3d wave tool so i could animate it as well..
Thank you for watching :)
Ivy, I still wanted to ask. What is the average time goes on 1 frame now? Are you considering the option of using OctaneRender?Hi Andrey ,
The Alewives dagger animation was a 119 scenes with an average of 150 key-frames or 5 seconds per scene. 6 scenes i didn't use or I cut from the film because after i rendered them I changed the story line so they didn't work in my story. On my render times. if I use Firefly render engine with a max of 4 deep shadow map lights it usually takes about 22 seconds per key-frame to render. I try to keep my rendering time under 30 seconds per keyframe. if the render times are longer than 30 seconds or require more light maps, then I'll either FXB the scene or use poser-fusion into Maya and render using Vray which speeds up render time a little, but in my opinion looses render quality. My biggest issue is how much memory it takes to load a scene file. this film was the first time i used over 50% of my systems resources.
I did buy octane render on sale a few weeks ago for poser pro and i can render still photos great, But I'm still trying to learn how to render it in poser with Key-frame animation. give me a little time and I'll have it figured out .My biggest asset is render system, which is a Intel- Ivy-bridge 3800 6 core I7 running at 4.2 GHz and I over clock it at 20%. Then I can achieve 4.8 to 5.2 Ghz depending on which bank of cores i use. in the process for over clocking. I also have 2 Nvida GTX 560LE 2 gigs graphic cards & 24 gigs of RAM on my rendering system.which I am hope to use fully with Octane render once i learn how to use it properly.. I tried to use Pixar render man render engine (trial version) which worked great. but at $6000 for the full version or $1100 a month to use pixar tractor cloud render farm. I'll think I'll stick with what I have.
I build my story-board scenes on My I7 laptop and render on my PC, that really has helped me speed up my work flow. so as when i am rendering one scene i can be working on getting the other scene ready to go. I accomplished this by using a network shared External 4TB HHD drive to keep all my 3d content I am using on. I also use Adobe Premiere pro to upload my animations to achieve 1080 HDThe whole process has been trial & errors on what works & what don't . also since i've been taking classes for Autodesk Animation suite that has help me greatly in my camera's POV and lighting sampling. But i still have a lot to learn when it comes to animation.
I just picked up the school girl off the fast grab today with a Nerd3d back-drop and this is a render using octane render

I'm interested in getting the Forest Bundle by Andrey Pestryakov,In the "additional information" box it says that this product is compatible with Poser, and I'm assuming that means all the Posers because it doesn't specify any versions.
However, when I looked at all the images, some of them have "For Daz Studio and Poser Pro".
That's a bit of a worry. I have Poser 7, not Poser Pro. Will the bundle work for me? Will it work, but some feature or other won't?
Yes requires Poser Pro (64 bit).
Poser (32 bit) can not render a picture it does not have enough memory, because forest scene is very big.Forest Bundle QuestionI'm interested in getting the Forest Bundle by Andrey Pestryakov,

Looking for some landscapeForest is a nice landscape:
http://www.daz3d.com/forest
and its two lovely add-ons which I do not own, but look awesome:
http://www.daz3d.com/forest-superior
http://www.daz3d.com/forest-autumn
Just a note that those are bit heavy resource and have long rendering times, but if you don't mind that they do make gorgeous renders. :)
Gosh... okay that Andre makes a ton of nice sets, cave and snow and others too...
http://www.daz3d.com/andrey-pestryakov
Now, if you use Daz studio, and want a landscape tool with more mileage, I HIGHLY recommend infinito.... make your own landscape, and populate it with trees and grass and flowers, even make caves. :) It's worth the price to make your own landscapes, set up a scene and make your landscape match your own needs and vision. I absolutely love making my own scene!!!! Less cookie cutter and more wow factor ^^
http://www.daz3d.com/infinito-1-0
SOOOOOOOO worth it!!Also, http://www.daz3d.com/infinito-expansion-pack-1
And If you have LAMH its great for low resource grass and instancing :)
I haven't really needed to buy many landscapes since buying infinito, but i couldn't resist Flipmode's lovely easy environment sets: http://www.daz3d.com/flipmode They give the illusion of a huge huge space and render much faster. :) Gorgeous (I only have sands and snow sets but others are in my wishlist!!)
Hope that is helpful :)
FirstBastion's Mix and Mashin' ItUp - After the prizesI didn't see anything in the rules that said I could not use animations i have created recently so I thought I'd submit these I just done and I still have one more animation in the series to complete. They take me about 8 to10 weeks to make these films.
So hopefully this will be accepted. as cinematic type render for this contest.Projects submitted for contest.

Rendered in Poser Pro2012 & Daz3A
Post work in Maya and Adobe Premiere ProFirstBastion kits used.
High Cliff Crossing
Rural Crossroads
Storm SewerCommentary of how to : ( This maybe long because of the process involved.)
First I have to say these are some of the best kits i used, I think I own all of FirstBastion’s models by now , They use little memory so rendering is fairly quick per-scene. they set up nice and i never had any trouble with the textures.
.
I use custom IDL lighting in Poser which I do myself because of the some of the scene shots i created required the lights to be in specific locations.
I also add or blended a few other model kits in with FirstBastion’s models such as Forest - By Andrey Pestryakov and WorldBase-Xtreme-Kit By Harvey Mann this allows me to give a larger feel to the back grounds, I may add or remove props as i need them to speed up render time or to add to scenes effects.I also have a technique of using spot lights set to deep shadow maps for shadow specific renders, I have also been taught that the use of dramatic color in dramatic scenes , can give a more intense feel to the scene. especially if you want to draw the viewers eye to a certain location in the scene. This works great in spooky scenes.
Each scene in these animations are a average of 300 Key-frames = 10 seconds - rendered at 30kfps and the average file size around 400Mb Each completed film took about 9 weeks to complete from start to finish. I have an investment of about $200 for all the Models Materials and Licenses. ( The good thing is I will be able to use these again some day in another animation.)
when I start my animations. I start buy building a file tree , this helps me keep everything organized so when time comes to put together the finished film I have everything ready in one spot, nothing worst than building animation and having to hunt down your assets. & or rendered work. so I build a file tree as follows
Main Folder< Movie File name>
< Sub Folders of>
Models folder> " Story board scenes files ready for render go in this folder"
Movie Folder >" Rendered Raw AVI scene files go in this folder"
Photoshop folder> Render stills & text graphics needed for animation goes here"
Premiere folder> This is the movie editors file.
Sound folder> This is where you keep all sound files, like sound effects, Sound tracks etc.."
Credits> This folder is where i place all copies of the read me's & Licenses for each model & Sound file i use.. this helps me to remember to whom to give credit too.My animation graphics resolutions setting are at 1920 x 1080 @ 300 dpi for maximum HD. These settings render very large finished files sizes. so make sure you have plenty of hard disk to save your movies on. But i found these settings gives you,High Def results
Native HD for PC is 1920 x 1200, so leaving your render size at 19020 x1080 will give you the best results for finished HD films.Next you got to have a story Board . I write all my own stories and in order to tell a story you need to know where going when building a animation story-line this will help you in gathering your assets for the animation.
I build my story board by actually building each scene with a 3d model(s) in Poser Pro, when I have each scene completed & ready to begin rendering including the lights and effects. I save it in the" Model scene folder". I use Daz3a to make custom Ani-blocks or to edit Ani-blocks so I can place them in my poser Animator program. Then I start rendering each scene, I save each AVI file in a Cinpac codex AVI file, compressed at 100% for best results.
when I save the avi file I name them in the scene order as I need them in the Movie editors timeline.
So to make this easier I name each avi file like this.> "Scene 01 - 5 seconds" - "scene 02 -3 seconds", "scene 03 -10 seconds".
I do it this way because it helps me to know what order to place the rendered avi files in the movie editor and I add the time length to each file name saved so in case i have to go back and remake or re-render a specific scene I will know what time length I have to work with in the remake. This is especially helpful when you have hundreds of rendered scenes
I always try to over run each AVI scene by 10 key-frames or more for film editing reasons.I found its much easier to cut off film you don't need than try to add to it after its been rendered. After I have completed rendering all the Story Board. I start film editing by placing each AVI file in the Adobe Premiere pro cs5 movie editor. I prefer Adobe Premiere Pro for the reason it integrates with Flash Pro, Photoshop and After-effects,and I have a API bridge form Poser and Maya into Adobe premiere so it saves me a couple of steps when it comes time to put the film together. plus Adobe allows me to have Blu-ray HD quality output. and Upload in HD directly to YouTube or Photoshop.com. Then I place the credits at the end of each film.
Then about a week or 2 before I complete the animation film I will start if i have time generating a interest & promoting the film .
When I am done I save my my finished animations files in MLT blu-ray format. in a cloud base server for archiving.Well that is about it. I know there is many ways to get to Rome .. but this is the path I use.
I hope you enjoy these films and get a chance to look at the rest of my animations. I like to use Daz and Poser tell stories. they are great tools. for hobbyist and amateurs alike. :)

I buy environments, houses and vegetation or vegetation sets.
I'm definitely not interested in toons, brutes, fairy and medieval items, nor in most of the fantasy armor/adventure/mage sets. Military isn't interesting at all for me.Care to make any recommendations? Not sure the style of vehicles you buy but I'm looking for a nice SUV type vehicle tha I can pose in of course and open up from all sides. Vegetation - I'm starting to work on a campsite and would like to make it with trees and grasses, plants, etc. I'm trying to make it foresty and "lived in" but trying to keep render times down too.
Anyway, Daz products are mostly good to excellent, but the installers drive me crazy since they changed to 4.5. But now for the SUVs: I have only one, a beautiful WWII Jeep, available as PC item ($ 1.99); in the PC shop you can also find additional textures. If you are looking for vehicles, petipet's shop here at Daz is a must. He or she does incredibly crazy things, excellently crafted. Many of petipet's models are PC items. There are many other good vehicles from other artists; just search the categories.
I am the proud owner of some wonderful ships, but they are all historical: 'HMS Victory', 'Licorne', 'Drakkar', 'Sacred Barge', 'Hawaiian Voyager' (could be also contemporary), 'Ancient Egyptian Canal Boat', 'Ancient Greek Boat'...
If you are looking for vegetation: Andrey Pestryakov's 'Forest' and 'Tropical' series are highly recommendable. Single plants you can find z.B. under 'Lisa's Botanicals'. DinoRaul makes wonderful plants (contemporary and prehistoric) over at Rendo's.
Well that is kind of funny because I just loaded Bus Maxis this morning. :) It seemed to load fine for me. Installers drive me nuts too. I hate installing stuff and then when I try to use it I have to go searching for everything. Oh well. It is getting better though.I'll check out Petipets. Thanks for the info. As far as vegetation, I actually have "Forest". And was thinking about buying the new winter pack for it but this morning, I don't know if my PC was running a scan or what but nothing would render fast enough for me. Actually, I did a render of "Forest" overnight. I have no clue how long it took. Which for me, I can render some times 50 shots for a particular scene and sequences so I don't do a lot of one shot wonders and consequently I try and cut down really long render times.
I've been working on my camping scene all afternoon. It has ground cover, all flat. There are no trees. What I may do is finish it up and save the scene and then merge it with the forest and see how it goes.
What I buy....what do you buy...

Question on Andrey Pestryakov's productsI too have almost the whole series now, but not yet the autumn pack. It is neccessary for the brown/yellow shades of the 'Elements'.
I love Pestryakov's products; they are worth every cent!
Question on Andrey Pestryakov's productsI have been reading the forum about how much resource it takes to render Forest and Forest Superior. I am under the impression that if you load the full preset you can't delete most of it & just keep what you need (I know some large scenes even if you load everything you can delete what you don't want).
Also, could someone please explain to me a bit about each product? I am understanding Forest Superior is just added stuff to Forrest, details, most, etc. and that for the ground and trees you have to have the original Forest?
It sounds like with Forest Element, it is things in smaller pieces, like separate trees, etc. It also says it has fall colors. If I get this set, do I need Forest for the ground or anything? I need to be able to load individual pieces so I'm not sure I even need Forest but I didn't know if it was required.
Also how is the autumn set different if there are autumn colors in Forest Elements?
I'm thinking for basics I could just get Forest Elements and Winter and have the basics for all season?
Also, does anyone know how long the sale is on? I was going to buy MM items and saw this was on sale and I think I'd rather do this but I can't afford all the parts.
Thanks

I got sort of discouraged with the whole thing after not being able to use it really in either Poser or DS. (that whole very excited, and then crash and burn feeling) Not sure I want to spend more to try again...thanks for pointing it out though! :) Perhaps on a FastGrab at some point.Forest Elements does not have winter elements since it was created before Forest Winter. Maybe later I'll do some winter elements and inserting them into the Forest Elements, maybe.. DAZ Studio users can use individual trees of Forest Elements and apply winter materials.
I would definitely buy Winter Elements ,if you created them ,I've got all of your Forest sets so far and Forest Winter hit the checkout so fast I think some of the snow melted!!

Are there any moprhs/alt textures/deformers/whatever to let you put footprints or tire tracks in the snow without postworking it in Photoshop? It seems like this product would be a lot more usable if it came with a set of "snow objects" that let you add furrows or imprints in the snow, but the description doesn't seem to indicate any.I guess I could do morphs for snow, but then I'd have to greatly increase the polygon mesh and increase the load on the scene. (Though it is worth noting that the winter scene is much easier than the summer). Also, each print of leg would have to do a separate morph so they can appear gradually for animation. Ie these morphs require hundreds ... While I was not ready for this... So I did not do the heavy polygon mesh and not created hundreds of morphs for snow.

Maybe it's assumed that this will be down as post work? I'm not sure how it could be done in DAZ unless its possible to morph the snow somehow.
The easy way would be with a texture overlay. A better way would be with a custom snow props that goes on top of the existing snow, so you'd have "displaced" snow on the edges, with a texture that fakes a "hole" in the middle.

My first Reality RenderXoechZ said:Well, render times in Lux (the render engine used with Reality) are not an issue, they are a feature :-)You have a pretty big scene here, I see 6 characters, 3 of them in the foreground with much detail. Therefore is it normal that rendering takes a long time. Lux here has to calculate a large ammount of textures. A good way to check how far a render is progressed is the S/p meter (Samples per pixel). On simpler scenes it is climbing fast and you get good results soon. At complex scenes (like yours here) it is climbing slow. The good thing with Lux is that you can go on rendering until you are satisfied with the result. You can even stop the render and continue later.
To save some RAM and also CPU power - and therefore getting good looking renders faster - you can try the usual "tricks":
- hide or remove parts of your scene that are not seen or outside the camera frame. This also includes objects that are hidden behind other objects. In your image you can hide all of your characters legs because there are pants covering them - just as an example
- use only as many lights as you really need
- use low-res textures for objects in the backgroundSo, even if you have a fast CPU and tons of RAM you can always speed up rendering by using a bit simplicity :-)
Actually I did most of this.
But with the lights, I had to use more lights to even get it to this level, because I used just HDRI and 2 lights and it didn't even clear up at all. I had to add 5 more lights and crank them up to the highest efficiency and power (watts) and turn the gama down low. So far, this is the only way to get large scenes to render with minimal grain. I have to reduce the remaining noise in photoshop.
But some times it does this on a small scene too. But it renders pretty good with a portrait scene with one person and a couple of props. That's the only problem I have with Reality/LuxRender, big scenes. For example, the forest scene by Andrey Pestryakov cannot render in LuxRender at all, but it can render in Daz just fine.
wardmatt1, Have you done any more renderings?
