FilaToon / Cell shaded rendering with Filament

Filatoon and filament drawing options seem easier to handle than my old method using pwToon and photoshop . Here my first test using these new features . Using Linear than reinhard mode , so I can tweak it just like using photoshop . Still need digging how to make better shadow though . And it`s maybe the right time back using DAZ studio again
FilaToon / Cell shaded rendering with FilamentYeah, Filatoon can do everything I needed PWToon to do, but it does it faster.
Renamed: I got the broken volumetric camerasWhen I came across the 3Delight manual and looked up some of the errors with Pwtoon and the camera, I realized I had no idea how to tell the system to make 2 points. But... long story short, buckets are part of the problem. I put bucket setting as law as it would go (8) and had the rectangles mostly gone. I wasn't able to go to 4 because I dunno.
Same story for pixel whatchamajigger. You want me to remember it NOW? Like... NOW? Pixel samples.
So basically the issue is quality control.
By providence I was reminded of the aCDz cameras. They used to be problematic, but currently what I've done works the way I personally need. So attaching examples and giving the only surviving download link for anyone else in my boat. Be sure and thank the guy even if he appears to have disappeared, because you never know. He might see it.

I don't understand what you mean about not being able to roll back - if you have the old packages you just need to copy them to the DIM Downloads folder and start DIM without going online - they will hten be available in teh Ready to Install tab, if they differe from the currently installed version (if DIM is online it wil show only the version currently on the servers).
I mean DAZ entirely.
If you have the Daz Studio, and Daz plug-in , installers then what I said applies - put copies in the DIM downloads foilder, start DIM working offline (or go offline if it auto-connects) and you can install the preferred version from the Ready to Install tab.
I had upgraded very close to when I reopened the comic to resume work, so currently that's the only thing I've got to go on as to what's happening. Similar to the PWtoon debaucle many ages ago. I don't have time to wait 2 upgrades for them to fix the cameras, and I doubt they will because they no longer sell them. I'm pretty sure I was literally the last person to ever buy them. It's for this reason I send the tech team occasionsal "Hey remember these things please" emails with finalized artwork attached to remind them that even though I am no longer a bestseller, there are these two huge projects that depend on them and please be kind to one of the first people to use DAZ for professional book cover making I beg of you. They probably hate me by now.
I thought I had DIM set to keep the DAZ installation files in a folder, but when I looked I could not find them. I've had to make a request.
I scrolled up in the other thread and found:
Found a temporary fix.
Steps for Windows.
1. Close DAZ Studio 4.7
2. Open Advanced System Settings.
3. Click on Environment Variables.
4. Click New.
5. Name: SHADERDL_OPTIONS
6. Value: -Dtime=0
7. Click Ok.
8. Run DAZ Studio.
9. Open Scene with any Art/Atmospheric Camera.
10. Happy render.I'm currently at.... "Advanced System Settings... WHAT!??" I WANT to attempt these things. Because these things do not reference drawing dragons I am lost.

Renamed: I got the broken volumetric camerasHuzzah, new toon system has come out! Boo, it's too complicated for overworked me. I also don't like how it renders. But that's a matter of personal preference.
So log story short. I've been keeping my package files in a separate folder while installing through DIM. A long time ago, this used to work for keeping older copies of DAZStudio in case I need to roll back.
I need to roll back.
Squares all over my renders.
I need to roll back.
The system no longer keeps old copies.
Plead my case with help? Yes. I did it a few months ago, too. No reply, but I wasn't susprised. A few months ago I got a response from them on a ticket I'd submitted a full year prior.
I really really need to roll back.
My comics are damaged. I can't work. Just when things were on a roll. This will be the 2nd time DAZ's upgrades broke things. I never completey recovered from last time. Ugh. This is insane. There needs to be a roll back feature. They're putting my and other people's work flow at risk without that.
I am beside myself.
Example of distress attached.
Using PWtoon and AOA Atmospheric volume camera. No other combination works as well... or used to work as well. Those horrible squares happen no matter how light or heavy I put shadow samples, whether or not I raytrace, and whether or not I use uberlighting. (I usually use a blend.) It started 2 days ago and I'm screaming in frustration. IfI have to paint over every single panel I make,I might as well just hand deraw and stop spending money here. I made 28 cents from Amazon last month. I could probaby stand to spend less money here.
Genesis 9 has cast away all morphs and I'm questioning my relationship decisionIt's the cosmos punishing me for not being very keen about the new toon rendering system. I know how it is. "That woman will PAY for insisting PWtoon forever!"

What I've seen of it so far, you can get results that look just as good as PwToon and VSS, while its easy of use and very low resource cost reminds me of the dzDefault toon shader for 3DL.
Yeah, and it renders so much faster than PWToon and other stuff, while avoiding the transmap bug that can kill 3dl renders.

I'm sorry I really don't agree, until it deals with opacity and trans maps refraction reflection etc better and lighting its no where a patch on PWToon etc. 3dl has so many more options and abilities than Filatoon.

I love the celluloid style, and I was excited the day Filatoon came out, but then I realized that to get to the level I wanted, it would take a lot of time to learn and buy products, and frankly there are better options. I chose to wait and see and not buy.
After I missed the 30% off GC, there is not much left. I heard that this month's sale should be a great deal, so I gave up a lot of DAZ original merchandise last month, but now? Maybe my party will end early , or never started.
Filatoon means installing 4.23, and I decided not to do that now. So, I guess I'm still using PWToon. I don't do a lot of cel-shaded images, and it does work pretty well. I feel bad you gave up stuff from the PA sale. I was one of those saying this sale is pretty great. It usually is - The Premier intro really vexed it, I think. I suppose if one wanted to spend a bigger chunk of money, the Premier sale is still fine. That's what some folks are saying, anyway - It's based on the idea of having Premier and gathering a lot of tokens and spending more to get the savings for more and so forth. I don't care to do that.
FilaToon / Cell shaded rendering with FilamentUnless/until I can load DS on a second computer, I'm gonna keep using PWToon. I found the complexity of trying to keep the newest resources separate from older resources and trying not to break backward compatibility was a bit overwhelming. Also, it seems Filament rendering has its own gotchas. So, I'll let others work the bugs out and maybe join the fun later. I'm used to working in 3DL, anyway.

Unfiltered opinion: I'm not crazy about all this toon stuff that's all the rage. This is a 3D program.

I kind of agree, mostly because so many of the samples look so oversaturated and not ot my taste. Yet it solves a long-running DS problem of how to get a cel-shaded look quickly and easily. The last really good cel-shader was PWToon and that's kind of a hassle to use (material setup, etc) and (IIRC) not even available any more. So, as one more tool in the toolbox and maybe as a step forward for much-neglected Filament renderer, it's a good thing.

FilaToon is the absolute final nail. Works waaaaaaaaaaaay better.
I regretted never buying PWToon, especially with many nice freebie addons released. And, thinking to get back into serious anime-style rendering, I grabbed LineRender9000 not long ago when in was on sale... and filatoon is released. I'm both elated for the new shaders and kicking myself for purchasing a product (LineRender9000) I'm probably going to retire soon. I'd pay for the anime shapes if they were made available on G8. I might try some of the character transfer tutorials I've found, but stylized shapes have me worried about distortions in nose and eye morphs.
Wonderful releases, Daz3D. Thanks to eveyone involved in their creation and for the many tips this thread has provided.

Agreed. PWToon was the last reason I ever held onto 3DL.

Anime Toons and Filatoon Shader Q&AI can easily replicate my favorite PWToon preset styles.
This is winner-winner chicken dinner in my book.
FilaToon / Cell shaded rendering with FilamentI will say that it was uncharacteristically generous of Daz3d to just give away the base set for the anime morphs and textures.
From what I can tell this shader replicates a lot of the looks you could get with PWToon.
The one major failing the Filament engine has is with transmapped hair. Some hair looks alright with the transmaps turned off, others not so much. So, there's gonna be a some trial and error there. My suggestion: Go digging through your older hair collection.

I have all of these other products, but they are too labor intensive and take too long to render, making it impractical for me to produce a satisfactory MotionMovie, and I am struggling.
Ideally, a CellShader that can be painted with a predefined arbitrary fixed main color, a fixed shadow color, and a fixed highlight, rather than a toon rendering that posterizes the raytraced colors, would be useful.
This is because commercial animations are painted that way.
Furthermore, it is a good picture if you can arbitrarily set the lines that represent the outside of the outline to be thicker and the lines that represent the edges inside of the outline to be thinner.

Wow, 12 years later (been a while), I was trying my hand at some animation, and needed a toon character model to cut-out/layer in PS, and thought..."I can probably render something in DS, if VSS is still working", and bam! Still a solid set of shaders for 3Delight!
ENTREPRENEUR TIP: Similar body bases are going for up to $85 each, on Etsy. (search: "vtuber body base") You could probably render a bunch of these, cut them up in Photoshop, and make a killing using these shaders!
Where's the "Like" button? I'd SMASH it right now!
It's funny too because I'd just started using the pwToon Shader set after using the Iray Toon Shaders for a while. So to see someone else using a classic 3Delight Shader set was a pleasant surprise to see.
