AIUTO...CHI CONOSCE L’ITALIANO? PARTE TREDICI
Tiziano said:
DIM, Connect o Central?

I you are installing from within DAZ Studio, you are using Connect. The missing thumbnails are a known problem right now.
I install exclusively via DIM and have the same issue :(
Are you using DS in online or offline mode?
There is no reason for running it online if you are using DIM, Central or manual installationAlwats used DS online ... have never considered using it offline ... always had the impression that it wasn't a good idea to use it offline?
Using DS online allows Daz Connect to retrieve 'updates' and generally mess with the contents, and as it uses different folders (non standard/non traditional) for saving stuff, while at the same time stealing priority over DIM installations, I would say it is far better idea to use DS offline than online.
DS won't install, and won't show any updates for*, content installed through DIM/Daz central/manually with the metadata imported. It will try to install products that, for some reason, are not showing as installed in the CMS (because double-clicking an uninstalled product is telling it to install). So having DS on line will not cause issues for content that has installed and been registerd by the system - if it does prompt a download then something is wrong further up the chain.
* nor will it install updates for Connect-installed products unless explicitly told to - Install update is not the default, double-click, action.
But, if DS looses thumbnails for previously installed products that have had working thumbnails, loosing the thumbnails is obviously related to DS being online => Daz Connect is to blaim.
Yes, metadata will get updated automatically (since it needs current metadata to work).

Good to know, I learn every day!
The only thing I have always ensured was... I never have DS and DIM running simultaneously, always conscientiously closing one program before opening the other.
Hopefully DAZ will resolve this missing thumbnail issue asap.90%+ of March Madness Purchases Thumbnails Not showingDMax said:

Sounds like you already figured out the solution.

Daz Central has problems installing things. Since that's its main purpose, I haven't had much use for it.
DAZ Central.Every time I try to use DC I get a message stating that an update is available. (EVERY TIME) I am unable to ignore the update so have to accept, the little blue circle goes round and round seemingly forever until I get a message stating that the download has failed. I have defaulted to using DIM. Can anyone help with this please? Thank you................Have a nice day.
Need Help UberEnvironment2 missingIt is part of "DAZ Studio 4.x Pro" in your Product Library. It should be available through all delivery methods, whichever you use (DIM / DAZ Central / DAZ Connect). Look for "Default Resources for DAZ Studio 4.15+" and install like any other product.

If you install with DIM, and everything is good, you do not want to log in from Studio. Ever. You do not benefit in any way from using Connect (that is what you are enabling when you log in). Lately it has been messing with the product thumbnails, as the many threads discussing that problem will attest, which is unfortunate, since it is entirely avoidable if you are using DIM / DAZ Central to manage your content.
The problem with that is ther are times that Studio just flat refuses to reconginze that something has been installed with DIM, no matter how many times it's uninstalled/reinstalled. It will not get added to the database, no matter what. When that happens, connect is the only option
I have installed 20,000 product packages, and I have had that happen maybe 5 or 6 times that I can remember. In each case it was either poorly packaged (wonky folder structure) or bad metadata. Each case required no small effort to clear up, but I figured it out. I have never used Connect, or ever logged in through Studio, for anything.

Okay, fresh minds work better.
dzInstall.ini is for DAZ Studio, so, since it isn't installed yet...
It's from a stand-alone installation of DS, not DIM/Daz Central.
90%+ of March Madness Purchases Thumbnails Not showingThank you both :) I was hoping for another in Daz solution. I have had nothing but huge, massive-I'm-going-to-quit-Daz issues with DIM and Central- a small part of which helped kill my hard drive (not that I'm still bitter or anything ;) ) I guess I'll be filling out a help ticket too because I don't want to touch DIM- it usually just introduces more problems instead of fixing anything for me :( But thanks for the suggestions!
Item Icons MissingI have been buying from the Daz Store and installing via Daz Central for a while but since yesterday any new items I have bought and installed are missing their package icon picture in the Smart Content Panel. There is just a question mark instead. The items work as they should but this is puzzling me....
90%+ of March Madness Purchases Thumbnails Not showingMy advice applies if you are using DIM / DAZ Central as your installation method of choice. If you wish to stay with Connect, then you will have to live with it until it gets corrected at the DAZ end. At this point, another help ticket might add some more weight to the problem. Mixing the two installation methods is not recommended for basic content, especially if using both for the same product. It will install twice (in different locations) and Connect has precedence.
X-Fashion missing assets?I installed it through Daz Central and that seemed to do the trick.
Thanks for all the imput and suggestions!
X-Fashion missing assets? That is a Connect folder, abd the U arrow at top-right of the product icon indicates that it thinks there's an update - presumably the missing files did not download correctly (I suspect of you browse to the folder location you will find one or more 0-byte .part files). You could try right-click on the product icon>Install Update but if that doesn't work I would right-click on product icon>Uninstall and then install through Install Manager/Daz Central.

Yes, it is something wrong at DAZ's end, and has been going on for a while.
Connect is a way to download and install content from within Studio. It uses a different method and installs in a different place than DIM / DAZ Central, and will override anything previously installed with DIM / DAZ Central. Logging in from Studio enables Connect, and will do things behind your back, like trash product icons (not that it was intended to do so).
Simply logging out of Studio will not restore the missing thumbnails. Now that Connect has gotten a hold of something, you will have to clean it out and reinstall the metadata from DIM. See this thread for my version of how to fix it. There is at least one user who can confirm that it works.
Will do! Thank you so much, NorthOf45.
