sudden DS white-out!
I need to uninstall a corrupted DAZStudio 4.9, and reinstall DazStudio, because DS corrupted.
But I cannot find an uninstall command. (attachment)
I could delete DS, or Daz3D folder- if that would accomplish the same thing. ??
.....Hoping that downloading DS would uninstall the corrupt one, I tried to download DS from the website, but could only find a link to DM (Download Manager), which I already have. (attachments)
I need to remove the corrupt DS files, and replace this corrupted DS4.9 with a new one, so I can get things up and running, again. What steps do I take? (Do I need to delete the corrupt DS files?)
(I noticed that DM and Daz Central are in Program Files, while DS is in C: Daz 3D/applications/64-bit/DAZ 3D/DAZStudio4.- attachments.)
Want to uninstall DAZ and move the content to a portable driveNOTE: Here is some extra info - providing that you use DIM (or previously Daz Central) to install content. If you use Daz Connect (installing within Daz Studio itself) then please ignore this reply as it won't be applicable.
If you are looking to uninstall Daz and archive your Library, you can just copy/move the content base folder(s) across to the portable drive. Don't forget you'll probably have atleast the main library where your Daz content is installed in adition to a second library that will hold your saved scenes (and maybe other stuff you have made). However, for a fuller backup you should also first go to the corner menu in Smart Content tab, click on "Content DB Maintenance", check the box for "Export User Data" and click Accept. This will backup any manual changes you have made to the metadata (either directly or indirectly) and save it to the Resources/Support folder of your primary base library (the one listed first).
Then, you will also really need to backup your Manifest files that DIM uses to "know" what you have installed. You can look in the settings of DIM to see where these live on your system.
If/When you decide to re-install Daz Studio you can add the base libraries from your portable drive and then using "Content DB Maintenance" again you can use the "Re-import Metadata" option to rebuild the database. Then in DIm you can restore the Manifest Files and so DIM will once again know what is installed. However, bear in mind that while Daz Studio doesn't care where the content is installed as long as the path within the base library is correct, the Manifest files doe have the absolute path recorded for all installed files. Thus if not hand-edited this may cause issues with uninstalling and perhaps some other edge cases that I can't think of right now.
Changing metadata information manuallyYou need to uninstall it using the same method you installed it with. If you used DIM (or Central) then you will need to uninstall with DIM. If there is a path issue between where DIM thinks things are and where they actually are you'd probably need to hand-edit the DIM manifest file for the product.
Changing metadata information manuallyHello all,
I'm having trouble uninstalling assets from Daz either within the program or usim DIM/DAZ Central because the metadata is pointing to the wrong device drive (an old one). Is it possible to manually modify it? I've already edited the Content Directory Manager in Edit->Preferences but it didn't work.
Thank you.

There's "Morphing, Poseable Spike" in Renderosity free stuff. You could scale it and parent it to the critter's head.
I used it to make Naomi Wildman's little forehead horns. And to make a targ from a pig base.

I too picked this up ... but I'm having an issue where it doesn't want to recognise any of the hairs. Does this script like the hairs to be in the default locations (I tend to put all my hair under a general 'Hair' folder (G1/G2/G3/G8/G9 hairs all under one main folder rather than their respective figure folders)?
The log just says "Skipping..." for any G3M/F hair I add. I even tried adding my whole hair directory and it skipped everything.
Is the metadata correct for the hair? When adding a directory, it uses the metadata to see that it is correct. If that is not correct, there is a bug where it trying to use the wrong default. In that case, it looks for stuff to be in the correct "Genesis 3 Female/Hair" directory.
If I stop it checking the file type, I can get it to add the file but on execution/convert/force-convert, the log says "No conformer assigned" (I've tried checking just one conformer or multiple in that tab).
Log extract:
19:18:42 GMT+0930 (AUS Central Standard Time): No Conformer assigned. Skipping Preset: D:/3D Runtimes/Content/Hair/Agent Hair G3M/Agent Hair Male.duf
19:18:42 GMT+0930 (AUS Central Standard Time): Execution Complete.
It's possible I just installed it wrong (it's in the default location for Content\Scripts\Riversoft Art\Hair Converter). I followed the steps in the manual with having just blank G9 loaded in the scene. Any help appreciated.
Edit: On a related note - I have your G8 to G9 clothing converter with a similar UI and that works as expected.
For the conformer, I would need to see the log. Thanks.

dForce High School Cheer for Genesis 8 Female Daz Originals and SR3Doesn't seem to work. I decided to try DIM. I uninstalled the product, then downloaded it again. However, it did not appear under the Ready to Install Tab, but just seemed to have auto-installed. I am wondering if it wasn't truly deleted?
In any case, any other ideas? It still doesn't work. I unistalled using Daz Central as well. I do appreciate your help.
2 versions of Hexagon_ Version 2.5.2.109 ?Hello Richard,
No, not a beta, we used to download this 32bit version, it doesn't seem to exist anymore, only as 64bit in DazCentral.
We like to have control over the software and have archived some versions to external hard drives so we can install them on all our PC's without Daz Central.
Do you know where I can get the 2.5.2.109 64bit, except in DazCentral, I can only install there, not download?
We created all of our models with Hexagon 2.5.1.79, but there are two issues that can be worked around, but we wanted to see if it was better in the new version.

how do the surface materials compare to the one used for the central stone wall in your Shaded Haven render, the wall with the tap in it
The surfaces in the testscene were just the aweSurface default with a generic diffuse color using the color picker, and the default specular roughness is 1%, with 100% reflection strength, (I dialed back a bit on reflections here). The SH stonewall I set to maybe 30% roughness and maybe dialled in some diffuse roughness too. 0% roughness equals perfectly sharp reflections, which should be used only for extremely glossy surfaces like mirrors, smooth metal and glass/water. Most surfaces use values arond 15-50%, think asphalt, stone walls, sand, fabrics etc.
And then there's the Glossy Freznel slider which is linked to the IoR (index of refraction) value, which makes surfaces at a grazing angle more reflective, the smaller the freznel roughness is set to, or the higher the IoR:) Read the manual;) Anyway, most dielectic materials use an IoR of about 1.5. Fabric is different, usually very rough with a rough glossy freznel, and a lower IoR.
also the parameter which is important here for your Shaded Haven render is "Specular 2 Rougness" right
and what does "Max Ray Depth" mean
i'm also a bit confused by what this text means
If maximum trace depth in the 3delight render settings is lower, the shader will use the limits set in the
render settings. Vice versa, if maximum trace depth in the render settings is higher, it will use the maximum
depth set in the material. The [Disco Chives] Misplaced Parrot Complaint ThreadMcGyver said:

Never mind how much time I spent trying to figure out what 41C meant, and if it was something specific to Australia.
It's probably a reference to 41°Celerysius which is about 300° Fahrenheit, the temperature at which Celery bursts in flames... it's a temperature scale widely used during the 1.5 World War, primarily for the safe shipment of highly explosive celery... while celery is extremely tasteless and low in calories, therefore making it the ideal food to punish one's self for having indulged in too much far tastier foods, few people know that celery is highly explosive once it reaches around 41.2° Celerysius...
One of the most well know celery related disasters occurred on the 6th of December, 1917 when two ships collided in the harbor at Halifax, Nova Scotia... The SS Mount Blanc and the SS Explodie Boom Boom... The SS Mount Blanc was carrying 2,653 Tonnes (= to 2,653 Tons) of explosives (mostly picric acid) and the SS Explodie Boom Boom was carrying a single bunch of celery in its hold... The collision caused both ships to catch fire and despite being kept constantly moist, the fire eventually spread to the celery containment area.
The resulting explosion of the celery bunch released so much energy it vaporized the Mount Blanc and registered a 7.9 on the Godzilla scale, as far away as Gertrude Plumdinker's* home at 354 NW 9th Ave, Portland, Oregon (now the site of a very luxurious 1/2 star Hampton Inn & Suites hotel of some sort). A scientific evaluation of the explosion places it around 2.9 Kilotons of TNT (12 Terajoules) or approximately 1.2 Kaijujoules (.75 Gameratons), which remains as one of the most powerful non-nuclear or Giant Prehistoric Monster based explosion to date.
Granted, that also could have been a bra size or apartment number or some covert trigger word to activate a sleeper agent to assassinate that smarmy internet celebrity canine, Doug The Pug, self proclaimed "King of Pop Culture"... but I know for a fact that Wendy has pledged not to assassinate, or be responsible for assassinating anymore smug pugs... so it's probably not that... it's also possible it's "41° Celsius" but that's like 105° Fahrenheit, and since Australia is at the bottom of the world, and heat rises, that's unlikely... it's even possible she was typing fast and wrote "41C" instead of "Rabid wombats" because of the proximity of the keys...
Truely we may never know because she's likely grown bored of my pondering of this subject and will refuse to tell us now.
A stance I firmly applaud because mysteries like this are the spice of life... Well, actually more like the Boba balls in the milk tea of life... they are an amusing novelty until you accidentally inhale one and start choking on it and the gorilla at the petting zoo you are visiting, climbs out of his enclosure and performs the Heimlich Maneuver on you in front of stunned onlookers who record it and make you and Gorbo viral internet sensations, leading to Gorbo being sued by the ghost of Henry Heimlich for unauthorized use of the trademarked term, instead of the untrademarked "Abdominal Thrusts" maneuver, luckily the judge throws it out because ghosts can't sue living people, but the damage is done and Gorbo loses his chauffeur's license and his girlfriend leaves him and he has to move in with his brother who runs a Foie gras cart in Central Park.

Well, regardless that's my guess.

Indeed, the Plumdinker home is long gone, replaced by the hotel mentioned above that takes up pretty much the entire block. It does have a nice pub on one corner (unfortunately not named Plumdinker's which would be a catchy name, in commemoration of the neighbourhood's "legendary resident").
Ah well, what can you expect for a city who's name was decided by a coin toss between the Boston born namesake of a cartoon reverend from the town of Springfield and some guy from Maine (for whom a local park was named). Of course in 1845 Portland was little more than a township with a few log cabins that was dwarfed by the teeming metropolis of Oregon City 12 miles to the south with its 300 or so residents. Being at the end of the Oregon trail and along the Willamette river and the territorial capital, Oregon City at the time had a lot to gooing for it and thus envisioned becoming the state's "biggest city" and port..
Of course as history would have it (though maybe not in some parallel, perpendicular, or tangential universe) the once sleepy township of Portland, where coin tossing had become a popular pastime (eventually over the years gioving way other activiteis such as skateboarding, graffiti, and playing the bagpipes while riding unicycles and wearing Darth Vader masks), was destined to take over that role due to it's position at the confluence of both the Columbia and Willamette rivers (which allowed better access for large ships). Meanwhile, Oregon City, which once aspired to greatness, faded in significance to become a suburb of its younger sister to the north.
Yep, way too much coffee today here as well,

I have turned on hidden, but I am still not seeing the "Smoothing" section - see attached image - and when I try to apply directly, while in this tab, then I receive the following prompt. The only way to add a smoothing modifer is to be in the Scene's tab.
Those are two separate suggestions/ideas: You add the smoothing modifier to the hair from the corner menu on the Scene tab (Edit/Geometry). I was refering to using the corner menu of the properties tab to enable the scale properties which are hidden on that hair.
I was not able to replicate the artifacts on the model I chose to test the hair on, however, it does look like decreasing the hair size will add a bald patch in the central parting and so you would most likely only consider making the hair a bit bigger.
The [Disco Chives] Misplaced Parrot Complaint ThreadHi again all; glad you all survived the cold weather a couple weeks ago! It's been in the 40s and 50s here. I have the A/C set to heat to 75 and chill to 79. The waterbed is set to 81. I don't do Celsius; I can barely spell it.
Got a new dryer vent cleaning kit from Amazon, so that's what my Friday morning is going to be all about. I also have to replace the vent cover on the outside of the house because there's no critter flapper in the original one. And here in Florida, we have a lot of the same kinds of critters as folks in Australia, Central America, and South America. That is...critters with stingers and other critters with teeth. Or critters that will get squished if they venture too far into the dryer itself!
Have a great weekend! I'll be cooking steaks, pork chops, and chicken drumsticks...once the dryer has been sorted.

I have a history with DS extending back to 2004 when I had to install stuff manually because it was before the release of DIM, and only on rare occasions have I wished it could be done automatically. This is countered by the number of occasions I've seen people have problems with DIM or more frequently with the now superseded DAZ Central. I also compare those problems with the number of problems I see reported by people who've manually installed (can't remember any since 2019). I realise as a percentage of the user base, that the number of problems is fairly small, but it's not zero.
And most content from other market places is manual install too, so DIM seems to me to be a nudge style effort to encourage people not to use other market places. It's a legitimate sales tactic from DAZ, but not one I want to go along with, I want access to everything I'm interested in, rather than be limited to those PA's who wish to sell through DAZ.

Richard
If you look at the Ultra Scenery forum thread you will see a number of posters (all posts in that thread are post 2019, I believe) that have encountered issues with that product, and some of them are people that chose to install the product manually, and then moved some of the duf files to locations the US script could not find. There is no foolproof method of installing, or managing content, all have their advantages and potential pitfalls. Everyone should just use what works best for themselves.

Returning UserAgain, IMO, firstly, if you use DIM, DO NOT use Daz Connect at the same time... let alone Daz Central which is already discontinued...
2nd, better learn how to well use Smart Content which is much faster than Content Library in terms of searching / filtering / organizing. I'm sure you'll benefit from that.
Returning UserWelcome back.
IMHO, DIM is still the 'best' way to install, compared to Connect or central. Compared to manual installation, it's a bit more complicated.
As for where you intall to, whether default, a secondary drive or a network location, that's just a matter of mapping the directory/directories in CDM(Content directory manager, F2>Content tab>Content directory manager(very bottom of the pop out), or Right click on the 'Content library' tab and select 'Content directory manager') that you have selected to install to.
I do suggest making a new content set, as opposed to just using the 'current directories' set alone. This allows you to make a backup of the ContentDirectoryManager.dsx file(\C:\Users\[name]\AppData\Roaming\DAZ 3D\Studio4. note: this is a 'hidden' folder and requires enabling 'show hidden files/folder/drives' in file explorer options under 'view'). In CDM, either make a 'new' set, by clicking the 'new' button, and adding the directories you intend to use, or select the 'current directories' and press the 'copy' button to make a copy of the set and add any additional directories you want to it.
Organization is kind of complicated, and no matter which method you use, it's going to be time consuming.
In software, you can use CSM to categorize content, use 'Link' files to make pseudo copies of assets, or simply copy the files themselves to whereever you want.
Outside of software, you can copy files from any directory to any directroy you wish, as long as they are mapped in CDM.This applies to user facing files, DUF/PNG, DJL(link), Cr2, etc. Don't move files in the Data, Geometries, Textures, or any non-default folders in the Runtime directory, as this will break content.
If using DIM for install/uninstall, you'll have to manually remove copies or link files, and, IIRC, references in the CSM, as they aren't listed in the DSX file(s) used by DIM.
As for a recommendation for organizing, I use the Folder/file method and extensive use of link files.
I start with parent folders, such as Architecture, Animal, Monster, Weapons, Vehicles, Props, EFX, Materials, and the various Genesis geneations(G1, G2f, G8m, etc).
Depending on parent folder, i may or may not have sub-folders. Monster, for instance, doesn't have sub-folders, just using the original working folder from the Zip file. Whereas, the various Genesis figures have multiple sub-folders, such as anatomy, base, character, clothing, props, etc, and each of these may or may not have sub folders. Clothing, for instance, is broken down into armor(fantasy), armor(scifi), Uniforms, shoes, shoes(boots), underwear, sleepwear, etc.
Because i organize this way, i use Link(DJL) files instead of just making copies of the originals. This allows me to rename the link file, or move it anywhere, and it doesn't effect the original. It also saves drive space.
Note: don't move link files in dazstudio, as it'll create a real copy of the original files, and not a copy of the link file, only move them in windows explorer.
This method can still be used, even if you install via DIM, you'll just need two sets of directories. The base set will be for installation, and the secondary will be for working. The working directories will contain nothing but Link(DJL) files.
Map both sets of directories in CDM, and put the working directories higher than the install directories. i recommend putting an empty folder as a break in between the two sets. You can name it whatever you want, but i'd suggest making it noticeable. I use "---demarc---" as the folder name.
There's a scrips(http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/public/software/dazstudio/4/referenceguide/scripting/api_reference/samples/specific_ui/create_asset_links/start) which will allow you to quickly make an entire folder/drive's worth of link files. This can be rather time consuming, depending on amount of assets, so, push the button and go have a coffee/tea break.
Note, Whether using the script, or the option in DS to make links, it will default to the top directory in CDM. As such, i'd recommend making a new folder and putthing that at the top of the CDM list.
best of luck.
