    Animal Husbandry
After his beloved Queen Lisa disappeared from the realm, King Jack had a giant oak tree in the forest carved in her likeness. Several young maidens of the DAZ realm sought to win the heart of King Jack. The competition for his love was cut throat. (Hmmm.... is that what happened to Queen Lisa? But we digress...) King Jack arranged a game of Animal Husbandry to sort the worthy from the unworthy.

Animal Husbandry (Capture Animals = Capture a Husband)
    These are the rules:
    1) Contestants pair up by random draw.
    2) Each contestant must hang her bucket from an arm of the Lisa statue.
    3) The first contestant to fill her bucket with five (5) of her assigned forest animal moves on to the next round.
    4) Escaped animals do not count toward the required animal total. All five must be in the bucket simultaneously.
    5) Formal attire is required for all contestants; Any contestant showing up in skimpwear will be immediately disqualified.

Round 1 - Jen with squirrels vs. Laurie with Doves

    1113 Cyclorama Woodland Coast Backgrounds
790 Mystical Sorceress Poses for V4 (on 2 women and statue)
775 Amoei (texture on two women's clothing)
1127 Portrait Studio Props (root-like base of statue is draped column. King Jack is sitting on draped throne)

    Also Used:
    Michael 4
    Jerome for M4
Fairytale Prince for M4 and H4
Fairytale Prince for M4 and H4 King Expansion
    Advanced Ambient, Distant, and Spotlight
Heart of the Matter (ground and tree)

    DAZ Squirrel
    Songbird Remix Second Edition

    Lisa's Botanicals Coleus
    Victoria 4.2
Juggling Act V4 (top on statue for modesty)
    Marielle Hair
    Ranger Hair
3 Raven Court Expansion 1 (bucket)
Pimp My Prop (wood and metal texturs on one bucket)
Shades of Life - Urban Construct (Wood texture on statue)
Red velvet shader (from Supersuit I think)
Motion Blur on escaping squirrel and dove

Edited to add: Yes, the statue idea with the shades of life is a blatant rip off from Tarina Kivi's Bareback Wild Dragon Riding. I was so impressed, I had to try it myself.

  • Michael 4 content not loading?

Those load the morph data, if it isn't already loaded (if you have Power Loader active, that is if you get a dialogue when you load the base Michael 4 figure, then the morphs probably are loaded0. They don't set the morphs, however, just make them available for use.

  • Michael 4 content not loading?

    Hi,

I am new to DAZ but think this might be a problem:

I got the Michael 4 content. In the library there are all types of facial morphs (See attached screenshot). When having the figure loaded and even marking the face area ... double clicking on the little pictures/'rc-merge into scene'... has no impact.

Nothing is chaning on the figure?!

    Any help appreciated.

  • MOTION CAPTURE WITH BREKEL SOFTWARE

    Andrea Di Bartolo said:
    Dear Friends
I hope that You can help me.
I have installed Pro Body motion capture software by Brekel, http://www.brekel.com/, to animate Characters that I use in Daz studio 4.6 Pro.
I have made a proof. I made a BVH file, setting the software with the file options for daz/poser. When I import this new bvh file in to Daz, and I Apply it, for example, to Michael 4 character there are abnormal deformations, hip bone (and other joints) have random rotations and then whole thing turns out to be one big confusion.
Can You help me tell me what are the correct instructions to create an animation without this deformations? I have already send this mail to Brekel but the answer the answer was not satisfactory
    Thank You so much
    Andrea

    Hi,

  • Freelance Poser Animators

    Hey Guys,

I'm currently working on an animated short in Poser and I'm looking over my work and... it's pretty disappointing. When it comes to movements I can't get it right.

I've finally realised that I need to get some help with this and so I'm looking for someone who'd be able to help me with all the motions/movements .etc. It would be paid which can be discussed but would anyone be interested?

I must admit I've never heard of a Poser freelancer but hey, I'm always optimistic.

The project's 5 minutes long, uses Michael 4, there'd be no need to do any prop/character creation as that's all been done. I'm mainly just looking for someone to do the movements. No need to worry about cameras, lighting or rendering as again that would be something I would do myself. I'm just looking for someone to do movements and motions.

The deadline for this would be 30th September.

Yeah... any other questions or whatever feel free to ask below.

  • Generation 4 UVs for Genesis 2? WHEN IS IT COMING???

    Byrdie said:
Do the UV bundles include genitals? Because that's a very important part, you know. ;-)

Michael 4 for Genesis 2 Male contains uvs for M4 Gens and, as mentioned above, instructions on how to use them. because of different naming of material zones, there is not a "direct way" to apply them, but the method I describe is not overly complicated.

The Generation 5 UV Bundles for Genesis 2 (Male and Female) do NOT come with uvs for the genitals as DAZ has already dealt with them when included the M5 and V5 UVs with Genesis 2.

  • Genesis Male model? M4, M5 .... Confused!

Scott, look at Genesis, G2F and G2M as figures and think of everything else as a shape or character.

Genesis is unisex and all of the characters labeled with a 5 are for use with it - Victoria 5, Michael 5, etc. If you want your figure to have genitals, you need to buy the Pro Pack for Michael 5 (or Victoria 5 for her gens.)

G2F and G2M use all of the characters labeled with a 6 and the same rules apply - you need the M6 and V6 pro packs for the male or female genitals.

Genesis will accept any skin textures that were made for Michael 4 or Victoria 4.

To customize the shapes of Genesis, G2M or G2F beyond what is included, you need to buy the morph sets that are sold separately.

You can also buy what are referred to as Legacy Shapes. They are the previous model's body shapes. What that will do is allow you to conform clothing meant for that model to Genesis, G2M or G2F.

    Ah, I see.

So, Basically I have Genesis 1 and 2 .. there's nothing else to buy there .. no pro version .. nothing I'm missing?

From now I just go and buy the models I want .. and for some reason one needs Genesis 1 and 2 installed to use most of them?! That's fine ..I just wanna make sure I'm not missing anything really essential.

Yes - for the new models (any character with a 5 or 6 after his or her name, plus Hitomi), you need Genesis or Genesis 2 installed.

Any model with a 4 after his or her name requires Michael 4 (for the males) or Victoria 4 (for the females) - the only exception to this is The Kids 4.

Any model with a 3 after his or her name is a stand-alone figure - no other purchase required.

    .

Oh, yes - here's a money-saving tip if you intend to buy a Pro bundle. Get a Platinum Club membership first. (For example, the Michael 6 Pro Bundle has a regular price of $124.95, and a Platinum Club price of $87.46. A Platinum Club Quarterly Membership costs $24. Save $13.49 by buying the membership, and get all the other membership benefits as a bonus.)

  • Genesis Male model? M4, M5 .... Confused!

The genitals are included with most of the Pro character sets - Michael 5 for Genesis, Michael 6 for Genesis 2 Male, I can't recall which if any of the others have the genitals (certainly not the teens).

Products may support both the older figure (Michael 4) and Genesis in the case of characters as Genesis can use the older textures, so all that's needed is a native morph for each. Sometimes the Michael 4 Shape for Genesis may be required (if the morph has been converted using GenX then the base M4 shape is needed to give the same final shape).

Using the DAZ Install Manager will help greatly with content installation, especially on a Mac where merging folders can be tricky, though you need to be careful not to end up with two copies of items.

    Inconvenience? Perhaps.
But it seems kind of like to want to buy cheerios and have it come with the flavors of Captain Crunch, Raisin Bran, and Special K, depending on what your mood when you pour the bowl! LOL

    Sorry... that was horrible.

But the fact that DAZ 3D is so scrupulous about UV Maps on the products they sell is a huge convenience to the 3d world. They even give us free access to the templates.

We have always had to find ways to get different textures on our models. Some of us edit ones that come with the product, others buy many various character presets that come with textures, etc.,

Genesis being able to swap UVs is actually pretty huge. Changing the shapes of Genesis doesn't change the UV Mapping either - so you CAN use any of the Genesis textures on any of the shapes. The reason for the UV Map swapping is for keeping texture stretch to a minimum. Optimizing the shapes. Since DAZ found out that they could do this for, say, the Troll, they decided to do it for characters as well - which is actually a lot more of a blessing from them than a curse. With clothes on, most of the time we won't even notice the minimal texture stretching that we might get from one human to the next. So... yeah... you could use a Michael 4 texture on a Genesis 1 female character, like Victoria 5, for example. You only need to begin with the appropriate figure that contains the right UVs. In this case, Basic Male. Then apply the Michael 4 textures of choice, and shape the figure to Vicky 5.

If you need to change shapes and textures within an animation is incredibly powerful using this system, since Genesis 1 has so many UV Map settings for it. Animation files should be kept somewhat short. Do the transformation in shape and textures in one complete animation for the realism of it all. But then the next time you film the character, it can originate from the Genesis that has the actual UV mapping that you've now switched to.

For many years we've been toiling over our character's appearances. Making, converting, buying new textures. This is not a Genesis issue. Genesis actually helps us.

Your defence of Genesis is misplaced here. I am not suggesting that being able to work with multiple UV sets in one figure is in any way a bad thing. In fact, the very idea that I can use all of the new Genesis morphs with either the Genesis maps OR my huge library of Gen4 maps is a huge advantage I am well aware of.

I do, however, wish that at least some of the core Gen5 characters would share UV sets. I can see the logic of wanting the Freak be on a separate UV, but I don't quite see the validation of M5 and D5 having different UVs. Especially after comparing them one on top the other - it's pretty much the same UVs with only slight relative coordinate shifts for the face, nails and ears - but enough to make the textures incompatible and a PITA to manually fix. And the inconvenience I speak of is mostly due to the fact that as of now there aren't many characters created for these UV sets. For example, I am very impressed with D5 normal maps, as I mentioned. They really are exceptionally good. And the reason I want to use the character. But there are only a handful of characters UV-mapped for D5 (total!)... not much of a variety... Now, if D5 were more similar to M5 in the UV set, it wouldn't be an issue (OR if M5 came with a similar quality normal maps). The inconvenience I mentioned is not about the technology of Genesis - that's pretty darn amazing! - it's about the available content.

No need to go on a crusade here :).

  • A question about the Anime Manga Starter Bundle

Go to the Product page and follow the links to see EXACTLY what you get.
    ◦Victoria 4.2 Base
    ◦Michael 4 Base
    ◦Aiko 4 Starter Pack
    ◦Hiro 4 Starter Pack

On the Product Page, these links are clickable.
Victoria 4 and Michael 4 are the female and male Generation 4 figures (Genesis is Generation 5, Genesis2 is Generation 6)
Aiko 4 is a morph of V4, and Hiro 4 is a morph of M4
If you click on their links, you will see what comes in the Starter pack for each one.
I think the value is impressive if you are sure that you want to use Generation 4 figures.
Along with DAZ Studio, you get Genesis and Genesis 2 free. If you like Mange or Anime, Aiko and Hiro are the way to go.
By the way, the company here is called DAZ 3D, and the software is called DAZ Studio, or DS or just Studio.
