A Paladin's Work Is Never Done

I did this in record time for me--2 days from concept to render. Not much of a story here, just a standard fantasy game trope--the Paladin laying on hands to heal a fellow warrior after they are done smiting (presumably) evil opponents. Sir Thomas and Lyssana have found a peaceful mountain overlook to rest and recover after their victory over a band of brigands.

The backdrop photo is an overlook at Petit Jean Mountain in Arkansas which I took when we went to see the eclipse.

To get Jade across all you have to do is favourite this morph.

Is this character controlled by a character slider? Or is it just a mix of dialed morphs? 

Base model is FWSA Jade HD for Teen Josie 7. I don't even recall setting most of the dials, so not sure where they came from. Though I created this character 3 years ago so I may have forgotten the process. Looking at the XTransfer folder I see a ton of characters being pulled in.

Getting a Duplicate error now when I load the scene with the G3F character in it:

As a refresher, the conversion was running at over 4 hours and seemed to be on the same morph for most of that four hours.

the reason you probably haven't seen character renders in Carrara you like is the lack of ability to natively read HDmorphs

however Philemo has made a plugin to address this where you can export a HD obj from DAZ studio to add a morph to the character in Carrara

Try running DS as admin, see if that helps, if you are able to on your OS. There was something about live DB getting stuck, and running DS as admin and updating gave it a kick in the ass.
So far, I am not really impressed. I loaded up like 5 scenes I recently rendered, they were all prettymuch black. Seems the lights don't transfer over or something. Like iray, outdoor renders are super fast and easy, but indoor stuff is a royal pain in the ass. Gonna look for some video tutorials, see if it gets better lol.

No, they don't. But most my characters are fully clothed and don't need to have an HD body, except for the hands, which are showing, hence my request if you think it is worth your time.

Yup. I wish I didn't have to dial in the entire body morph on HD Add-Ons in order to get the hands. BTW, excited to have Nadya, and thanks for giving us some new eye materials. Still waiting for flipped/rotated sclerae?

The figure is not a morph, it is the base genesis 8 figure. So it affect the base. I also removed all blendshapes created in Maya just in case.

When I export it from Maya and import it into Motion Builder, it works just fine in Motion Builder. The problem arises when exporting it from Motion Builder and importing it into Daz. 

I have noticed two things that might help solve it:

1. In maya, some joints have different scale and transform values, and are not all zeroed out. (but the character in Maya looks correct)

2. When deleting the history of the charachter's mesh in Maya, it looks correct both in Motion Builder, and in Daz. However, if I delete the history on the character's mesh, I lose all my animation, because the characters is now disconnected from the rig.

Is there a way to delete the history of the figure in maya while preserving its animation and its connection to the joints and rig?

As an example, this is G8F; a morph transferred from G3 (Mia); textures from V4 (Paloma); Freebie dress and Leggings (G8 iirc); the hair is dforce for G8.

Pretty neat that all that can be done! 

I think first pass will be to get my initial poser files working and get daz to recognize my library tree.  In the past I've preferred to maually install files so I know  where they are and what is going on. It takes longer, but when there is a problem I have a better feel for things to diagnose a problem. Besides, if my machine is offline I tranSfer manually anyway.

Right now my Poser Game Developer is still working, but if/when it comes up with an upgrade or die ultimatum, I think i'm out.  I'm just getting a first feel on what it will take to keep my (now rather extensive? expensive?) library of 3D models useful.  It is a HUGE relief that DAZ studio will keep on working, like the EverReady Bunny, when my Poser Game Developer eventually decides to self terminate.

Genesis 3 Products in Poser

The Genesis 3 figures are not officially supported by the DSON Poser Importer. However, thanks to some software from Willdial (You’ll need to search for that freebie at Renderosity), it is possible to make it do so anyway. Now that this range of products is starting to see some very low prices in the sales, it might be worth your considering with some provisos.

Firstly, you will need to be using Windows and Poser 11 – Mac is not supported.

Secondly, there’s no guarantee that future versions of Poser will support the DSON plug-in. While converting Genesis and Genesis 2 products to a Poser native format protects those investments, Genesis 3 cannot be converted at this time.

Thirdly, while there were a small number of accessories for Genesis 2 that were not compatible with Poser, even with the importer, there is a much, much greater number of them for Genesis 3 that can’t be used – and the only real way to know is to spend your money and give them a go. This is the reason I’m starting this thread, so, like my other thread, some experience of these problems can be shared. One of the biggest bugbears is footwear – you can often force fit the stuff that doesn’t quite work, which is mostly OK for me but if you want close ups of footwear, Genesis 3 is probably not your best choice of figure.

Besides a little future proofing, the chief reason for converting the Genesis and Genesis 2 product lines to a Poser native format, rather than to just use the Importer, is for improved performance. Unfortunately, as I mentioned, that isn’t an option for the Genesis 3 figures. I have tried running them through the Netherwork’s File Optimizer but sadly the process breaks all of the JCMs (the morphs are there but the ERC is gone).

That said, if it were possible, there is another reason that it might not be such a useful direction to take. Genesis 3 figures make a lot of use of JCMs (Joint Control Morphs) and clothing creators don’t sculpt these for their products as used to be the case for the pre-Genesis figures – instead, they can relay on Studio’s morph transfer facility that can be used in Poser only via the DSON importer plug-in and not be figures converted to the Poser native format. Certainly, Poser 11 Pro does have a morph transfer tool but I don’t think the results are up to the job.

At this point, if you want to go ahead with trying Genesis 3 in Poser, please make sure you follow Willdial’s advice and install the older Beta version of the DSON Importer. He notes in his guide that three are problems with the geometry under the chin which only occur with the new version of the Importer. However, there is another problem I found with the Female figure – the left side of the expressions were seriously distorted. On top of this, I found that both male and female figures also suffered some strange distortions for the lower eyelids. I found that neither problem occurred with the beta Importer.

So your essential checklist before starting is…

DSON Importer for Poser Beta (if you have the DSON importer, this should also be in your product library available for download – get it and back it up!). If you already have the later version installed, don’t worry, just run the Beta installer and it will uninstall that for you.

Willdial’s Genesis 3 Poser Updater (search at Renderosity)

A shedload of time to get things started – but once the foundation work is done, it’s done.

Preparation

Fit Control: If you have the Fit Control product or one like it (I highly recommend something like this), then do uninstal before you work to export figures for Poser. After you’ve completed that job, then you add it back before you start work on exporting clothing items.

A Heavy Figure: I have managed to collect up 23 Base Characters for the Genesis 7 Female, along with some additional morph packs to add function and additional form. This creates the same problem I found with the original Genesis, which, like this one, had so many morphs packed in that it is an unmanageably heavy figure, that weighs so much on performance such that moving an arm becomes an exercise in patience. If you have collected a lot of morphs, then the best answer to this problem is the same as I used for Genesis – the creation of light figures. You need to uninstall chunk of your morphs to create lighter figures that retain the functionality you need. I actually created one for each base, all of which retained the various core body and face morphs, along with those for improved function. You should be able to include a few of the Base Characters into each figure without a great loss in performance though.

Finishing

Once you’ve run your figures through the Poser Updater you might look at them and wonder why they look so bland. Where’s all that detail from the Base Character promos? There are, of course, high definition add-ons for the Base Characters but the detail you see in the Base promos is largely from maps – most importantly, the normal maps. I’ve mentioned these before in my thread for converting Genesis and Genesis 2 figures and to illustrate, here’s the Rune character in Poser’s default lighting, first with just her basic texture and subdivision dialled up to 2, and then with the normal maps:

If you think these look a tad ‘too much’, you would be right – I set my normals maps to 1.5 but not without reason. I’m not rendering for realism but with a view to post-working the image into a faux painting and for that, if I need this sort of detail at all, I need it to be a little exaggerated to prevent it being lost in the process.

Some detail of this kind can also be added from morph packs, such as body tone and the detail for the knees but normal maps are efficient and resource friendly, so if you have them, best to use them.

Due to restrictions in the size of posts, I've split off the tables of tested products into the following three posts. I'll be updating this post with a more detailed tutorial over the weekend.

“Universe Explorer for Genesis 8 Males” is the latest space suit for Midnight_stories. It has the feel of the next generator astronauts who are heading out to Mars and the outer solar system. This pack includes Full body suit, Gloves, Boots, Helmet, Cap and Backpack. Plus 9 material presets and 10 body shapes. Also a premade subset with limits on it so you can apply standard poses to it. Gloves have an expand morph to get that spacesuit look. Be on the lookout for the matching Genesis 8 Females version and the Universal Habitat. Great for all your space exploration scene.

I'm interested in picking this up, but I'm a bit confused on which products you need to transfer Genesis 1 up to Genesis 3. The base product seems to be just for pre-G1 stuff up to G2.

You need GenX2 and both the Genesis 2 and Genesis 3 add-ons.

As for male to female morphs, the hard part there for every developer is the breasts- they're often baked into a morph and wouldn't really have a way to do that if it's not the default female/male shapes.  That said I bet Zev could figure it out but i'm guessing it'd be a ton of work, and there's so many wild shapes. :D I think zev0 has a list a mile long of things people want... heh. 
 

....yeah it gives me fits when I try to create child characters, both male and female, as I also use Skin Builder Pro (which doesn't create skins for Genesis males) as it makes getting the chest perfectly flat extremely difficult, even using the Growing Up breast/chest morphs. I find that using the "Breasts Gone" morph (either in the standard G3 body morphs or Breast Control utility tends to distort the mesh which can affect clothing fits.

1. Cute stylized/toon males (like what Marcius, and the PAs who made the anime guys have been doing) so they can match the females better.

2. Elf/fairy fantasy clothes for males (pelts doesn't cut it)

3. Horse 2 because I'd love more skins for it and dForce hairs for it.

4. Cute medium-sized or little dogs for Dog 8. Even if they're "mutts."

5. Geografted paws and eyes for DAZ House Cat. I'd take a weird alien/monster cat morph with geografts too. This remake has potential.

I'll start:

A lot more monsters and weird stuff. Teapot headed people, living chess pieces, really weird aliens, more and more monsters. (Monsters sometimes do ok and a few PAs make great ones, but... MORE ;)

Realistic armors and footwear, particularly for women but also just generally. Particularly for Genesis 8; there's a lot of cool armor through the generations but the more rigid the outfit is supposed to be the worse it is at autofitting.

A LOT more animals (modern, dinosaurs, etc). There are some excellent animals/dinosaurs in the store, I'd just like about 50x as many...

 

Went on a Black Friday weekend shopping spree in Dinoraul's store at the rendo to satisfy my dino needs and finally bought the new DAZ House Cat (gonna see if I can transfer Lynes' wild cat morphs to the newer cat; wish me luck). Definitely would love more realistic animals. A ram to go with the DAZ sheep, cape buffalo to face off against my lion pride, a new rabbit and hare, a MOUSE... and a columbian mammoth and/ or whoolly mammoth with proportions closer to DR's mammoth which is no longer available since CP closed.

Polish's Deathpion Sci-Fi Scorpion Mech gives me hope we'll see more Zoids animal mechs for sale. I have CyberD Model-1, R.A.P.T.O.R., Mestophales Mech Dragon, Hailey's Comet and RoboRex for the Digital I Rex (plus more from CP), and the new mecha sets have me craving for more awesome mech animals such as ligers and sabertooths.

I am not a native English speaker, but in my language is "probably" relativizing enough. I'm a software developer and we use "probably" all the time to express inaccuracy. And software developers are masters of inaccuracy when they have to make a statement 

Apart from that many have already expressed the wish for HD feet morphs and more diversity for feets... and if a single non HD feet morph sells outside the DAZ store for about $50, I can see a market there...

Winter is ...here, and a set fitting the season is coming. :)
It`s called Easy Environments: Frozen Lake.
It features (-surprise-) a frozen lake, a snowy road alongside it, and two skyspheres/HDRIs (close and wide mountains).
The terrain has footprint- and a bumpiness morph.
The ice has a "broken" option, and a simplistic (rather cartoon style) fishing hole option.
