  • January 2020 - Daz 3D New User Challenge - Composition, Instancing, & Duplication

I am having trouble doing a simple morph for the pants, to make them drape a little nicer.

I hid everything in Daz except the pants as can be shown in the first screenshot.

When I import into Blender however, some extra stuff appears, as can be see in the second screenshot.

I am at a loss at to what to do to get only the pants so I can do my simple morph and make them look nice.

sad At this point I can't be of much help I'm afraid. I can't even advise you to open a ticket with Daz because they will tell you not to use the Beta version if a newer version is out.
It looks like the beta version is choking on decrypting the script file because a parse error would have resulted in a log entry.
One thing i note however is that you said you used DIM to install, yet I can see a Daz Connect folder structure. Could that be the issue or maybe just a red herring ?

You will see a Connect folder structure because I uninstalled the DIM version and tried reinstalling using Daz Connect. Neither worked in the BETA, though both work in the release (4.12.0.86). It looks as though I'll have to spend a few hours trying to recreate my Beta workspace in the release version if I want to use your script (shortcuts, bookmarks, toolbars, etc.)

There are scripts to automate the workspace transfer between DS builds:

  • How can I split a head morph into separate pieces: Lips, Nose, Eyes?

They are unique face morphs. If they used other face morphing packages, that would be indicated in the product description. Moreover, what is needed to create the unique face morphs as shown, is the Leisha 8 character. Without the latter, the base Genesis 8 Female (or any other character) will produce markedly different results from those shown. The morphs do not contain adjustments for the individual elements that you describe. As for isolating or separating the morphs for individual areas of the face, like mouth, nose. eyes, etc, that might be possible, but would, at the very least, be more trouble than it was worth, and you might be better off diving into whatever morph packages you have and making your own facsimiles.

  • How can I split a head morph into separate pieces: Lips, Nose, Eyes?

I like this product, but are the morphs custom?  If I apply one of the heads, does it apply a unique face morph, or does it change all the Genesis 8 female face morph settings?

See, I like the nose on one head, but prefer the lips on the other head, so I want to mix and match Eye, Nose & Lip morphs.

Is there a way to separate the morphs by Nose, Eyes, Lips, or are they already separated?

  • Can I unfreeze a morph without killing it?

When starting out, I looked into building my own compound morphs that set various other properties all at once. That led me to "ERC Freeze," and served my purpose perfectly.  Now that I'm trying to animate some of those morphs in non-linear ways on the timeline, however, I'm quickly realizing that having them all tied together is only convenient for outlining. I don't always want the components merged into a single morph throughout my entire animation.

What I want to do is bake those morphs into their individual components for the current frame, and zero out the value of the compound morph to compensate, but keep the morph available for later convenience.  I've seen two commands that looked hopeful, but ultimately neither one seems to help:

    • "ERC Bake (Delta Add, Add, Subtract)" does exactly what I want: It replaces the compound morph with its components. Unfortunately it also destroys the compound morph altogether so I can never use it again without manually re-freezing every property it contained.
    • "ERC Bake to Play Range (Keyed)" pops up a warning message that makes it sound like it will do exactly what I want (except on the entire play range instead of one frame), but it actually doesn't do anything at all.

So, other than manually going through every component and setting it to the same value as the compound morph contains, is there any way to "bake" a morph without destroying it?

  • What features would you like to see appear in dazstudio 5?

I had a dream this morning, or just as I was waking up, about a sort-of face-transfer utility. Not really realistic but...
    1. Heads on (some) base figures are provided with a high level of sub-division.
    2. The utility uses a few expressionless photos to build the basic face shape, and some pics of the subject's expressions. Drop in a video or two of said character speaking etc. and AI combines it all into a face/head along with face dials for expressions. Sounds like deepfake but with knobs on.
    3. Not finished yet LOL. For animation, the utility uses some sort of AI predictive calculation to lift the load when animations are rendered - the frames are pre-calculated prior to and separately from rendering and not during so animation rendering take little time at all.
Back to the real (not dream) world.

Or maybe not so far off...

  • Question about ERC Freeze

You could keep all of the proerpties in the scene, but yes you should be able to use the actual morph as the controller - in principle it's no different from using it to control JCMs. However, before doing an ERC Freeze, if you have already done it for the adjustments, you need to use ERC Bake (right-click on the link in the Property Hierarchy) as running ERC Freeze twice is likely to produce Duplicate Formulas.

    Thank you!

    It all worked fine now.

And with all the practice tries I feel like I understood and remembered the process. Will be able to do it again faster and faster.

  • How to make G8M have the shape of a base Genesis?

Can one make G8M look like Genesis with autofit clones, yes but they are not rigged for use. Also faces, hands and feet are not necessarily going to morph well between figures - different meshes, different rigging.

To make morphs between figures, in the first post of my tutorial thread there is [in large print] the tutorial for making V4/M4 autofit clones for the G8 figures. In the process one must make 'clothing' of each figure - that clothing is used to carry the morphs from one figure to another. I've used of them to make 'general' figure morphs for my own use. It is not a professional way of making morphs ;-)

  • How to make G8M have the shape of a base Genesis?

You can transform a clone morph into a visible morph you can apply to your figure. However a clone morph for a figure may not be the same shape as that figure, that shape is sometimes modified in order to get a better fit for auto fitted clothes, so that may not give you the results you expect.

  • DELETE

There are other things besides the eyes that can be effected by this issue, though you may not notice. It basically can effect any overlapping surfaces that have some transparency. So skin and hair can be effected as well.

Besides changing the optimization setting, the other way to avoid this issue is to create some space between these surfaces, that's all my morph does. My morph simply moves the eye moisture a tiny fraction out from the sclera so that they no longer overlap. So if hair does this, just move the hair, maybe expand it slightly with the scale or use a morph if it has one to alter it. The farther you get from world center the more pronounced this issue becomes. So another possible fix is to center your character at 0,0 and adjust everything in the scene around them.

I list these fixes in case somebody wants to use the other setting, or by chance a new version of DS screws around with it, which is kind of what happened here. It used to be that 'memory' was the fix. Now newer versions of DS add this new 'auto' setting, which in my testing was way worse than the other options. I swear by 'auto' they mean it automatically selects the worst possible thing, LOL.

But what's real annoying is that the setting for this defaults back to auto every time you reboot Daz Studio. Which is SUPER annoying if you forget to change it, given that auto is the worst option.

  • DIM is not letting me log in.
I've been having the same issue since I got a new computer on the 3rd. I haven't found a way to fix it yet. And just like you, it works fine on my old computer--except that my old computer barely runs, hence I got a new one. :(

What security software are youusing? Have you transferred backed-up settings from the old PC?

I've done this. Tried to transfer backup settings after DAZ wasn't working on my new pc from my old. And it still crashes. It's not a normal crash though as I've discussed with some other people. It's a crash where...
When you go to log in on the install manager, you enter your info, press log in, and then a bar shows up, upper right hand corner of the login window.
When I press login, spinny circle on the mouse, and then crash to desktop. No error code or anything. Doesn't matter if it has access to CMS.
There's no antivirus besides windows firewall installed.

  • Reinstalled Items No Longer "New"

I think if you want to have sort by isntall date work in DS you need to install via Connect - so I was told, anyway, but that was when it was a new feature.

That makes and doesn't at the same time. I will need to try it and see. I know it sorts by Install Date to the original Install Date. But that could just be an accident and not actually the DIM install date.

In any case, for my work flow, Connect won't work. I can't handle G8F taking over a minute to pop into a scene just because it has five million morph dials installed that I have no interest in using.

Connect lets you install what you want just as DIM does (as long as you aren't using Victoria/Michael/Kids 4, or one or two other legacy figures).

I know. But I would be endlessly downloading and redownloading. Right now I have everything downloaded and updated in DIM. So it's easy and quick to uninstall and install.

  • Question about ERC Freeze

Don't use Adjust Rigging to Shape with compound morphs. If you have custom morphs that need it then apply just one morph, adjust the rigging, link via ERC Freeze for each in turn.

Ok, that is good to know.

One more question, I had my custom morph only imported locally in the scene where I used it to create my new character.

I created the head morph, body morph, full morph, and than used the scene to save/support asset/morph asset.

That introduced my new morphs in the morph tabs. My problem is that the custom morph was only imported locally, so the head morph that is available through support asset does not have the custom morph available to apply, so it just applies the rest of the settings.

Is there a way to apply that shape without having to save my custom morph also as a support asset ? (since I only used it for this new one, I don't want to crowd my morphs with it)

If there isn't, would another viable option be to use my custom morph as the head morph and use ERC Freeze on it to also include the rest of the head morphs?
