  • Brynn Hair morphs??

Maybe I'm wrong Taoz,  but the hair acts very strange when applying morph dials. I don't really get how DForce works on hair. At any rate I still can't understand why it will not keep the morph applied on Frame 1.

  • Brynn Hair morphs??

I purchase Brynn from 3D Universe particulary for the hair. However, if I apply the longer hair morph on frame 1 of any animation applied to the character the hair shrinks back to the standard length over the course of the animation. I know that it is DForce hair but how do I just apply morphs and have them remain?

Where does it say that the hair is dForce?  The clothing is but I can't see anything about the hair being dForce on the product page.

  • Opinions on the HD Visemes for Genesis 8 Female?

They would complement the arrangement. They affect the lips, not the expressions. On the Parameters Tab there is only the one 00_HD to dial up and then as each of the default visemes are activated, so too is the HD morph for that viseme. So it's easy to use.

  • [Released] ManFriday's Mesh Grabber [Commercial]

Just bought this. Very useful. It is great in many ways. Very close to excellent, in fact.

Problems I have with it: (1) sometimes I am unable to select an edge. It selects ones nearby but not the one I want. (2) Sometimes the gizmo appears far away from the features I have selected. Makes it difficult to use with precision when that happens. (3) Even when the gizmo is close to the selected region, it does not locate itself at the center of the action, but at vertex nearby. For example if I select one edge, it does not apear between the vertices that bound the edge. Same for faces or selections of multiple features.

1 + 3) I'm still working on a fix for vertex and edge selection, and it turns out to be a bit more time consuming than I thought. But I'm on it, and it will be fixed soon.

    2) Is already fixed here and will be included in that updated.

Two things I want to be able to do but can't: (1) Modify the left suface of the left leg or arm and then transfer that mod exactly to the right surface of the right leg or arm. (2) Apply the same mods to new G8 figures without having to redo them by hand. Both may may be possible but I don't know how to do them.  Any suggestions?

I am planning future add-ons for symmetry features but I can't say yet how that will look like exactly. Regarding 2), I think what you want is to create a morph from the deltas in the mesh grabber by exporting it to OBJ and reimporting it with Morph Loader Pro. Then you can save that morph asset to make it available in all G8F or G8M figures, for example. I learned it with this great tutorial by Sickleyield: but the steps required here are simpler because you don't need Blender -- you just export the OBJ and reimport it with Morph Loader Pro. Maybe someone has a more specific tutorial handy for that?

Thank you very much, ManFriday. You are terrific!

I woder if there is anyway to transfer meshgrabber changes from on leg to the other (for symmetry) by operating on the obj file, say in hexagon or with directing text editing of the obj file?

  • How do I use Ron's brushes and stuff?

All my .abr files (or the ones I've tried out of those products anyway) work fine in GIMP.  There was something else that didn't work for me in GIMP, although that was a number of years back so I'm not sure if that still holds true.

I usually just apply them to a plane, but there's nothing stopping you from picking some premade object that is UV mapped appropriately and applying it to that surface, for example think of a flexible scroll or map object, to instantly give your 2D billboard some bend/twist morph options.

When you are applying it in Photoshop/GIMP, if you've never done that before, note that brushes vs. pencils will give you different results.

  • Offline Installation, Registration?

I haven't had much luck searching the forum so I'll ask here: I've just installed DS so a new hard drive, in a completely isolated PC.  The PC has no access to any other machine, or network, and definitely not to the internet itself.  The only contact it has with the outside world is via a USB drive that I use to transfer files.

I have installed DS so I know that works okay.?  But how do I register the software?

Is there any point downloading the Install Manager?  If I download items from my account and save them to USB, can Daz read them off the USB and install them?

    TIA

  • HD addon versus HD characters
I guess Mrs Chow's HD detail are very specific tailored to her morph and her maps so her HD addon won't look so good with others.

I don't think it is fair that the promo images for Mrs. Chow show her with all the HD details but the text does not mention the fact that these details require an extra purchase.

@marble I honestly don't see much difference between the HD add-on and the normal maps that Mrs. Chow comes with. The first render is a default G8F with only the HD add-on, rendered at subD 3. The second is the same figure with only the normal maps (no HD add-on) applied, remdered at the subD level G8F defaults to when loaded. The last is the normal maps cranked up to a value of 1.5.

Well, that's interesting. I didn't know that she comes with detailed normal maps. I wanted to buy her in the FasGrab sale but was put off by the fact that HD doubled the price. I might buy her now, thanks.

While in a way I agree, promos always contain stuff besides the product they advertise.

True, I agree. I was also surprised to see her pro bundle doesn't include the HD details. I think Edward's bundle included them?

  • How to use G2M (and other Legacy Male) uvs on G3F/G8F and vice versa

Alternatively, if you have the Genesis 3 UV Swap: Male and Female Base product, you won't need to do the Map Transfer, just use the Legacy UV's to Genesis 3 Male instead of the Genesis 3 Female. You have to do one of them, anyway, male or female, depending which package you have (Genesis 2 Male and Michael 6; or Genesis Pack, which covers M5) and apply it to the Genesis 3 Female using the Genesis 3 Male UV.

  • How to use G2M (and other Legacy Male) uvs on G3F/G8F and vice versa

So that's where it comes from! I have wondered more than once how the Genesis 2 Female had the Genesis 2 Male and M5 UV maps available sometimes (not by default), when they weren't present in the data folder. It's loaded by the character itself.

Anyway, the female Raven loads with the Base Male UV by default, but switching to the Female Base UV doesn't fit, you get the usual gaps all over the place. But since you now have both Male and Female UV's on the one figure, you can do the map transfer to Genesis 2 Female UV straight away from the Female Raven (or Cardinal).

  • Strange Poser Pro message... Any know what this means?-(Solved)

    Present conclusion...

There is no "new license key" if you are not purchasing Poser 11.2 as a new product or actually upgrading from a lower version (like 2012 or PP10)...

Multiple times the transfer from Smith Micro to Bondware is referred to as an "upgrade", but it's apparently not... you just enter your old license key where the "new one" goes... you are just re-registering the software with the new owners because the old servers are gone...

This is only confusing if you've read it being referred to by official information as an "upgrade" and you have upgraded earlier versions of Poser before...

Although I've only "upgraded" a version of Poser once, and the rest of my copies were brand new dvds, that was enough to be confusing.

I entered the old license and so far it appears to work.

  • 1660 > 2060 Super - Worth the upgrade?

Do you have shots of some of the scenes you've rendered that took that long? Just curious how complex they are, etc. I'm guessing those 45-hours would be 3 or 4 times longer still for me right now heh.
Is IRay known to be a slower renderer overall? I have seen mention of people using other renderers around here, like Octane, etc. I think others use Blender for Cycles (which is pretty fast, even on my system). I've considered using Blender for rendering, but I don't know how smooth or kludgy the transfer would be from D3D to Blender, including setting up lighting, materials, etc. So I'm not sure if it would be worth the extra effort/time.

To be fair, every single PBR render engine I have ever tried, and it is many, are all slow at indoor renders, unless you pull some tricks to get more light bouncing around. It can be done in DS too with ghost lights. My short trial with octane plugin showed octane being a bit slower than iray, and looking less good out of the box. I was going to ask at their forums about it, probably some tricks to speed it up, but even after signing up and getting the plugin, it wouldn't let me post at their forums. So I simply gave it up and went back to the devil I am already familliar with. I did grab the newest version of it today, not sure when I will have the time to do another realworld scene trail run with it though. If it shows to be a good speed increase, I will probably go back to see if I can get it looking as good as iray again. Another thing that worries me, that octane might revert back to being a paid for plugin only after I have taken the time to learn it lol. I will go thermonuclear.

    Hello

Octane is my renderer since V0 also because I used Octane before Iray came to live and wanted to have an unbiaised renderer. In DS4, I work with differents scenes and merge them in Octane. One advantage is also to improve my scene in DS4 (pose, ...) while working on the lighting/material in Octane. So I don't use the plug-in and have my own workflow to facilitate the transfer (personal nodes, ...)

Here is a not definitive render of a big indoor scene (small and low resolution sorry, no postwork except signature) on my GTX680 4gb (I dream when seeing the different discussions about the last graphic cards :-) !) .

There are approx. 50 clothed Genesis 3 and 8 male and female. Plenty of Stonemason, Kidbaretto, Petitpet, Aerysoul objects, sets" and clothes, some robots (15 approx), plenty of lights (at least 80: most are visible: headlights, ... and some invisible) and distant fog. Of course this scene can't be stored entirely in my "poor old" graphic card so swaping is important. I can't compare with Iray as I can't work on the global scene due to my material limits (my PC is 7 years old !!)

Final render took 12 hours (8000x4000 as I want to print a poster) . Sleeping and real life job make this time acceptable. In Octane you can also save the render state, stop, work on a new scene and continue the render later with loading the renderstate. So day: make a scene / night: render.

May be my 3D tools roadmap would have been different if I started later. For example I leaved Poser for DS4 (a long time ago) as I needed decimator and texture atlas because swapping didn't exist in the first versions of Octane and the number of texture maps was also limited. Now this limit doesn't exist anymore: all texture are the originals and I don't take the time to reduce them anymore. Same for objects resolution . The only optimization I do is to make invisible the bodyparts hidden by the clothes.

Great scene! Wow there's a lot going on in there. Keep seeing new stuff when I look at it lol.

  • How can I combine morphs?

You cabn merge custom morphs, if you haven't added joint adjustments or corrective morphs, by applying them (and nothing else), exporting as OBJ, and importing as a new morph.
