  • Brows that actually follow the bone shape
I could not find the auto-follow morph to zero it down so I could not check your suggestion.

Auto-follow morphs are usually hidden. Pull down the Options menu on the Parameter tab and check "Show Hidden". You should now see a new section in the Parameter tab list with all the morphs applied to the Genesis head inside it.

    Thanks, found it!

I zeroed it and it did change the shape a little, but it is still raised.

I think I needed to zero the shape before the export, it makes sense that now it would be doubled.

I tried the morph on the base shape and it worked perfectly. Problem is that they don't really fit the head shape (go a little into the head).

I think I maybe need to export the base shape brows but model them in Blender on the final shape. (and then after reimport zero the autofollow).

I'll give that a try next and let you know how it worked.

Second option would be to create a few more morphs, so that together they make a universal form fitting kit.

  • (Lock) Difference V4 and V4.2

V4.2 is simply the latest update of V4. That's the version almost everybody refers to when they say "V4" nowadays as it's been the current version of V4 since 2008. Almost every product you'll see for "V4" will in fact be for V4.2.

The main difference between the versions was the way morphs were handled:

    • V4.0 had all the morphs preloaded with the figure, but the problem was that you couldn't add new morph packs without updating the base figure as the base cr2 needed to include morph channels for all morphs.
    • V4.1 used the same system as V3 IIRC. You had the ability to select which moprhs to load, and it had a few "community channels" to inject custom morphs, but it was still limited by the fact that you needed those channels in the cr2 beforehand. The eyebrow bodypart was also added with this version
    • V4.2 was the final version, and introduced "Exp" morph system, which could dynamically create the channels needed each time you installed a new morph pack.

  • FaceGen vs Face Transfer vs Headshop 12. Pros & Cons?

For what it's worth here are Headshop 12 and Face Transfer rendered straight out the box on G8F Base both using the same source face photo. Plus Face Transfer with PhilW's Face Transfer Shapes base morph at 100%. I don't have FaceGen so cant compare that.

  • Dain 8

Okay, I took a second look at the promo thanks to the mention here about two free pro bundles.(Thank you to Daveso). All that really interested me about Dain was Griff. Kalen looks nice too, though. But I realized that the deal offers two other Gen8 pro bundles in addition to Dain. Three recent pro bundles along with a few wish list items and a few "whatever, I could maybe use that sometime" items made it worth doing.

I did fail to put in the DAIN-20 code for 20% off the Daz Originals. :-( But I only chose two of the 2.20 items so I guess that's negligible.

Wait, what? The banner I got included one additional Pro bundle for free. So you buy the Dain 8 bundle plus one add-on and you get another Pro bundle for free.

It's in addition to the "regular" promo for Dain, which gives you a free bundle for buying Dain Pro Bundle and one add-on. So you get one from the banner and one from the regular promo.

I didn't even realize you get one from the regular promo...I am so ticked. I only got one.

*edit* Oh wait, it says "select G2 or G3 bundle"...I already have all the G3 bundles, so I guess it's not so bad. I would have been really ticked if it was two G8 bundles.

I'd suggest opening a customer service ticket noting that you 'missed' the part about the second bundle.  I've made a similar mistake on a past sale, and CS was nice enough to add the missing item to my library.  In my case it was a HD morph that was supposed to be free with the bundle, but the concept is the same.

Sure, you are probably looking at some old G2 bundle, but can't hurt to ask!  I actually get pretty good mileage out of my G2 bundles.  As characters go, Aiko 6 is probably my favorite!

I opened up a ticket. I only use G8 nowadays, but folks here were saying they were getting two G8 bundles for free. Hopefully they'll be decent and help me out considering how much I spend.

There's a help category designed specifically for this. It's "Missed Freebie." Daz Sales Support is among the best. If the customer is courteous and professional, so are they.

  • Questions from an Ex Poser User

Conforming prop? In D/S we save File > save as > Support files > figure/prop ... save it to an intelligent location {not in the Runtime structure but in My Library someplace} Props don't conform. Clothing conforms. If it's a clothing prop then first it needs to be made into a clothing piece [rigged using the transfer utilities].

I have to check that out. What I want to achive is: I have a prop which a figure should hold in it's hand when loaded. Or a piece of jeweltry which autoconnects to the right place of the figure and is also parented to it. It works if I load a Poser prop that was conforming to Victoria 4. Not exactly, but ok. But I don't know how to create and save such thing in DS.

I am a week on business trip now and cannot check right away. So sorry, if I answer delayed.

    alex86fire :

This is just a guess, but as someone who has been doing this for decades, on the surface it appears you have compounding morphs - meaning, it appears you have created your morph on an already morphed brow (to a character shape - not on base figure).

If this is true, try this;  Select the brows, and then dial out the (character named) auto-follow morph created by the character shape (dial to zero [0.00])  --  If I am correct in my assumption, this should give you 1:1 corrected morph you created in Blender (brow not rising up).

If I am wrong, then please disreagard as you have an altogether different issue.

Best practice (arguable) is to always create your morphs against base figures, and not shaped characters, but Daz Studio does include import variables to help with corrections, or use various techniques to adjust/fix them after import.

I have no time to write any more mini-tuts regarding all this, so I will let others here move you along further if it is needed.

First try what I suggested  --  If it doesn't help, please say so.  Then, others could troubleshoot further any issues you are having regarding this...

It might be the problem (I wanted to create the morph on the adapted shape just so that I knew where to lower the brows.

I could not find the auto-follow morph to zero it down so I could not check your suggestion.

I would appreciate someone guiding me how to import my morph on this figure already, in the meantime I will also try a morph on the base figure to see how it behaves.

  • Auto Face Enhancer [Commercial]

The batch rendering issue showing a call out for missing files (that are not in fact missing) appears to me to be reliant on what order Daz loads files when opening a scene. As the AFE expressions are not active until the master control slider is active if the expression is loaded first, before the AFE controller, the expression morph cannot be loaded to its required value. I have found that opening each scene you want to batch render manually, saving it, then closing it again temporarily fixes the missing file issue and all those images can then be batch rendered with no further issues.

This workaround worked for me as well last time. However, depending on the number of renders it can take very long. I batch rendered 32 images and opening them again, making sure to click "Skip" on AFE and saving again took me one and a half hours :/

I've had to do this, too - although not only for AFE. I've encountered the "needed files" bug with G8 base, too.

As mentioned, the workaround is to open all the files and re-save them.

It can take some time, but remember Daz can open multiple instances. I just click on all my files and let them open, then save one at a time.

  • The "Animators Assemble!" thread for Daz animation WIPs, clips, and tips

    Hey group, how is everyone?

Ok, I'm working on the "demo" that will be used for the tutorials, documenting my process on the way.  It has been taking a little longer than expected, due to other commitments, but here's a really rough draft.  Basically it is going to be a little commercial for my company

    https://www.dropbox.com/s/6264xr36kz04eig/draft_demo.mp4?dl=0

Basically a 3d animatic, to block out cameras in Daz Studio (using mCasual's camseq script, which is great), more or less finished facial animation (I had to laugh, because at points, looking down, I'm crosseyed, due to the limits of bones exported from studio, need to fix that) and there's a lot of finger animation still to do. (I built a finger rig in mobu, which will also be documented and I'll be giving out a resource file with those constraints and instructions)

One portion, where I pickup the phone, transfer hands then bring it back down and place on the table, was also brought in via fbx, using a constraint in Motionbuilder called a "multireferential constraint", which took me a little bit to figure out the process (studio's fbx import is really interesting at times).  I also plan on adding dforce for the shirt (well, maybe)

Close to the end, the live video will be matchmoved to the phone screen, here just matched for audio (yes, that is me)

Let me know what you think, and I'm attaching an iray frame render, so you can see what the actual character looks like (tried to make it look like me, sort of, well, maybe a skinnier version of me.. haha)

very entertaining.  it would have been perfect if you would have added some movements into the hands and fingers as you talked so it didn't look like Mannequin hands, other wises  great demo. I wish you the best of luck with your business :)

  • Brows that actually follow the bone shape

Ok, So I tried my hand at a Morph on some brows (They happened to be Kimm's brows).

I lowered the corner in Blender.

This is how they looked at import:

This is how they looked after I modified them:

I successfully imported the morph into Daz but unfortunately, instead of just lowering the corner, it actually keeps the corner in place and raises the rest of the brow:

    Daz before morph:

    Daz after morph:

For more clarity, on how I expected the brows to look with the morph, I imported them as a normal obj.

Here are both brows, normal and the imported one in white (how I expcted the shape to look after morph).

Any advice on how I can get this to work properly?

  • New Installed Morphs Not Appearing

My English is very poor. I can only translate by machine. I'm sorry. The situation I encounter is similar to yours. I uninstall all the things and reinstall them. No installation involves the deformed characters (49619 morph dials included as standard.). The content of G8F Body Morphs appears. Finally, install the deformed characters. There's no problem for the moment. I'm not sure it's because of the deformed characters. It's just that I can think of the possible problems now. But my poses has problems again. It can be dragged and used. It can't be used by double clicking. It's a little fidgety.

    Dear,

the result is so dissapointing. Save the money. To be honest, headshop is not even better.
I also bought Face Gen. Although this one has more tweak and tune options I don't see any and results when rendering the figure. Something goes wrong here and I am trying to find it out. Still testing.

How do people rate face transfer in terms of accurate likeness, with the scale of 1 being bad and 10 being spot-on excellent ?
