  • Dear DAZ, please give us at least one subdivision level for use with Zbrush GOZ

become a PA and have access to the HD tool.

Not everybody wants to sell their work nor do they necessarily have the technical abilies to rig and develop textures for said work (or they just might not want to as their interest lies eleswhere). It's one thing to say "I just want to sculpt this character for some artwork" and another thing entirely to say "I want to sell stuff I've built from scratch."

Daz has offred extended use of their proprietary face transfer tool at a cost...what's to say they can't offer the super sekret morph loader tool in the same fashion? They could even stipulate it's use for non-commercial purposes only. I'd pay for it...and I'd pay more than $20 for it too.

I think the general consensus in this forum on this topic is that DAZ doesn't want HD characters be sold on other sites or even distributed as freebies. The same argument for dforce hair.

That's why I said that they could stipulate the license for non-commercial purposes only and even go so far as to say it's for personal use only. Yes, it won't stop people from breaking that license, but as they say, locks are only good to keep honest people honest anyways. Who's to stop me from passing around the files I've purchased from Daz? Only my honesty.

Personally I'm totally with you regarding this matter. I just said what other people keep saying here. And that DAZ makes more money with PA only tools and therefore exclusive sales on their DAZ store, than they would make money with selling the tools themselves. I don't have the sales info of DAZ. Maybe it's true. Maybe not. Maybe they lose money instead because people like you and me would otherwise have plenty opportunities to train their skills and gain interest to become a vendor themselves one day and offer cool products for sale and offer DAZ more opportunities to make money. I don't know, maybe nobody knows.

Based on the past discussion all I see in arguments is that PA only tools shall serve as hard-coded DRM tools. I can't see any more arguments behind it. Not that its invalid. I wonder why DAZ didn't go through with an all-in DRM. Why only limit Rendo and others with HD sculpts. Why not stop Rendo and others from selling DAZ content altogether if Genesis content can only be used if it's sold via DAZ store. Why not at the same time stop piracy of DAZ content. True, users protested against DRM but so did they with other topics and DAZ followed through nonetheless.

  • [Released] Mirror Geometry for Genesis 3 [Commercial]

@esha @RiverSoftArt I overcame the problems with Mirror Geometry after using the G3 to G8 converter by performing Transfer Rigging (Figure Space) on the mirrored item and resaving it. I tried this successfully with the Casual Tourist Jacket and an asymmetrical I13 shirt. (The final item still has the issue of the shoulder and arms not fitting perfectly, especially when raised, but that is a conversion issue, not a mirror issue, I believe. The non-mirrored conversion has the same shoulder/arm problem. Autofit has the same shoulder/arm problem.)

Oh awesome!  And thank you for sharing that with everyone.

You can bake the higher resolution sculpt to displacement, normals, or a mix in ZBrush - not ideal but it is an option (and for Iray you need the same level of division in the mesh sent to the render engine either way).

It's not really an option for stuff that requires actual 3D sculpting, such as tentacles, etc. Geografts are a thing, but like I mentioned above, that's a whole other can of pain-in-the-pattoo that could be avoided entirely by being able to import an HD morph...especially when it would involve needing to geograft pretty much...everything.

  • The "Powered by Hot Pockets" Complaint Thread

Complaint:  Old age.  Bah, humbug.  I've spent several hours over the last two days trying to resolve my bank checkbook, my bank checking summary, and my personal financial spreadsheet.  I finally got the two bank records to agree on a number but I wasn't sure it was the right number.  Also, after much weeping and gnashing of teeth, my spreadsheet finally resolved to being off by exactly 2 x $57.96 where $57.96 was a Paypal transaction where I had received money into my Paypal account and then I transferred that amount into my checking account.  Simple, right?  Arghhh.sad  My spreadsheet had been setup to automatically deduct outgoing Paypal payments from my credit card.  I also manually entered the transfer from Paypal into my checking account, but I put in the wrong sign (- instead of +) and I also put it into the savings deposit fields instead of the checking deposit fields.  I had wrong numbers all over the place and because of the confusion with Paypal and thinking that I had mistakenly pulled the money from Paypal's website twice by being impatient and mashing the transfer button again I was all confused.  Add that to doing this in the morning before the coffee has woken everything up, and my brain is prone to wandering, and the fact that I had recently reorganized my spreadsheet to accomodate more paypal fields and wasn't sure the new spreadsheet algorithms were 100% accurate again.  I was tearing my hair out.  Arghhhh.crying

Non-complaint:  But another sleepless night of worrying about my clumsy bookkeeping I resolved to figure it out this morning.  And yes Virginia, there is a happing ending.  I methodically examined my entries and compared the algorithm of the old spreadsheet with the new and when all the values were put into the right fields, the numbers all matched.  Checkbook, Bank Statement, and Spreadsheet.  Go Figure!surprise  Science is wonderful.  Ageing biology sucks!devil

  • How do I transfer custom morphs from one G8F to another G8F? (solved)

Try checking "data/auto_adapted", if you can't find them in there then they are embedded inside your scene file.

Try loading the scene, then go "File > Save As > Support Asset > Morph Asset", it should show up in that, put a check against it and save it as a DSF.

That will put it in G8F's morphs folder which means it will show up for every G8F base or character you load.

Once I save it as a morph asset, is there anyway to only transfer it to a single G8F, instead of showing up for every G8F character base?

There has to be some way to transfer morphs between two figures.

How do I transfer custom morphs from one G8F to another G8F?

I don't want the morphs to become permanent, where they become available to every G8F character. I just need to transfer custom made morphs from one G8F to another. How can I do this?

You would have to remake the morph giving it a new name. No 2 morphs can exist {without problems} with the same name.

    Might be easier to save out the morphs, use them as required, then close D/S and dig through the data folders to delete the morph(s). {don't save scenes with temporary items though}

I can't even find the morphs. I think they only exist within my scene save file.

Somehow I need to export the custom Zbrush morphs of G8F to a file, then somehow re-import them back into a different G8F?

...yeah I'll likely just stick to pushing the morph boundaries as much as I can. Unfortunately the clothing issue is a real bother. There seem to be more appropriate hair styles than clothing for the younger set, particularly female characters.

  • need suggestion to fix this thigh

If you haven't already saved your morph, you could try selecting your morphed figure, then choosing Edit > Figure > Rigging > Adjust Rigging to Shape. Accept the defaults and then try your pose to see if it bends correctly. If it does, then save your morph and it should load correctly when you need it. If you have already saved your morph and do not have the originally morphed figure (with all the sliders), the process would be similar, except you must create a new slider for your morph by selecting the figure, exporting it as a object, giving it a new unique name, then load a new base figure and use morph loader to apply the new shape to that base figure by browsing to the object file you created. You should now have a new morph slider available under the Parameters tab.Slide it to 100%  and you can follow the instructions in the first line above.

  • We need The Kids 8

In the day, i.e., before the release of about G3, there were a few vendors over on Rendo who did at least a somewhat more than token support of K4, which could usually be autofit to G1 without much futzing with it. Unfortuinately, once sales taper off at Rendo a product is put on clearance, which genrally turns into disappearance before all that long.

There always probably will be much less of a demand for juvenile figures than adult figures. But there is at least a small demand, and it's probably not going to go away, although it probably won't grow much either. And yes, thanks to Zev0 and a few other sources we can generally roll our own to a fairly high degree, even if DAZ isn't being forthcomming with a current base morph.

However, there is a real shortage of support content for kid figures. I'd happily snap up a bundle of deliberately kid-oriented clothing (rather than possible make-dos), or would love to see refits of some of the really nice ones which were released back in 2010 with K4. Esha did some really nice things, and there were some historic and ethinic things released in the PC collection for them as well. But I don't think there's been much for pre-G3 figures in the past five years.

ETA: This is G1 with the basic child morph and a freebie character morph called Clara which I'm pretty sure I found on ShareCG backaround the time G1 came out.

The bonnet was from the Bonnie clothes set which may still be in the store here. The outfit is actually one for NearMe. Some of her things turned out to be usable with Scampixie Pranx, K4 and the G1 basic child, although one ended up having to use Poke-away fairly strenuously to clear the poke-through. I would like to see an update of something in the same general style. With dForce it oughtn't to be all that difficult -- although I'd like to have it work as conforming for most things.

  • Eyebrows mostly inside face. How to fix?

I figured out why this was happening, Another character's head morph, Lucy's,  was fully dialed in with Sue's. I dialed Lucy's back to zero and the brows, which stayed put, ended up in the the correct position for the face that emerged. I had been wondering why my Sue's face was not much like the face I saw in the product listing.  Now it is.

That leads me to another question. When I start a new scene and load in a character 2 or three more characters full body and head morphs are already dialed in, along with the character I just loaded -- even if it is the base genesis 8 figure. Why does that happen?  Moreover if I start with a stock figure in zero position, sometimes if I merge in a shape preset that I saved, it mangles the figure. It looks like the morphs were applied at double strength.

Shouldn't starting a new scene zero all the present character morphs?  Clearly it doesn't. Is that a bug or a feature?

Thank you, Richard, for your excellent advice. You have helped me solve many problems with your suggestions. I don't know what we would do without you.

  • Strange Teeth

I don't own that character, but often that distortion means the the PA creating the character forgot to remove a mouth morph before exporting and sculpting his/her changes. Submit a help request and hope that the PA will fix it. If it  is an older character, your chances of getting a fix are probably slim. You can return the product for a refund if you bought it within the last 30 days.

  • How do I transfer custom morphs from one G8F to another G8F? (solved)

solution: you can't.  you have to save your custom morphs as a morph asset, which makes them universal to all G8F.  File->Save As->Support Asset->Morph Asset, then select your Zbrush custom morphs.  This makes the morphs universal to all G8F, so you may need to organize your zbrush morph structure, by editing the controllers path, to something like this:
    Zbrush
    - Char1-Vicky
    - - vicky_customMorph1
    - Char2-Paul
    - - paul_customMorph1

Sometimes you'll just make a custom zbrush morph unique to a scene, in which it gets saved in the scene file and you don't save it as a morph asset, unless of course the G8F breaks for some reason and you need to load a new one. In my case, my G8F's limits are all broken somehow and I don't know how to restore it, so I was forced to use a fresh G8F which forced me into this situation.

  • How do I remove a UV Layout after I've loaded it?

I did Figure --> Geometry --> Load UV Layout. Everything worked fine. The G8F model now has my new UV Layout. Now how do I remove it from the list? It's only saved in my duf scene save file, meaning if I start a new session of DAZ studio and load G8F, G8F won't have this new UV layout.

So, how do I removw a UV layout once I've loaded it into the list?

You answered your own question ;-) Once you have it loaded, unless you save it, it will be gone next time you load the figure.

btw - it's not a good idea to save unfinished work in scenes. It can cause some confusion to the program as duplicate named items are not recognized. To remove the information from the scene file, well, delete that scene file.

Oh crap. So that UV layout is now a permant addition to my G8F character? Is there anyway to remove it? I already saved the file.  I could revert back, but that would be extremely annoying. There has to be some way to just remove it right?

light bulb went off!  Close D/S, dig into the data folders, find DAZ 3D, the folder for Genesis 8 Female, ... somewhere in there is a folder for the uv sets. Slide the offender out of there ... close the folders and open D/S and see what happens.

IF it's not stored in there, then it's coded into that scene file which is what has happened with unfinished morphs from time to time hence my practice now to avoid saving unfinished work in scenes.

Sadly the file isn't in the data folder.  Base Female is in there, but the custom ones I imported must be in the scene file.

Are there other custom elements in the character (UVs, moprhs, etc.)? If not you could just save Character/Wearables presets to rebuild it on a newly loaded base.

The character has a bunch of custom made morphs. I would have to figure out a way to transfer those morphs to the new character.  I'm sure that's possible, but it adds more time and effort to an already long list of things needed to be done.

edit: i just loaded a new G8F since there was no way to remove those uv layouts.

" I guess I load up base male character, APPLY GU morphs first and then export into Zbrush? And there I I create separate head and body morphs etc. After importing, I need to turn on reverse deformation so the morph only affects "base" figure but not your GU morphs? If I do it that way, there is no bakong which is fine and the person buying my character would still have to own GU morphs?"

    That is correct yes.
