Updated the facial structure a bit- was actually working in Zbrush for added detail when I realize I had also set up the program to update...and the thing froze.  Will have to go back in later to actually redo the little additional facial details that I had wanted.

Hi there!

I'm still confused about Cayman's Legacy UV products, M4 for G8M and V4 for G8F.

I know how to make them work and apply a M4 skin to my G8M.

But then I'd like to change just the eyes to conventional G8 materials (while keeping the rest of the M4 skin) and I can't quite figure it out. The iris and pupils are extremly dilated and there's a weird geograft part in the sclera that I can't make sense of. I can see that there's some kind of hidden eye morph connected to the product but I can't figure out how to get rid of it.

Help please? How do I apply conventional G8 eye materials to a G8 figure that has Cayman's Legacy UV applied to them? Thank you!

That creator tends to use customized characters, so it's likely she's made from several different morphs, not just a single morph.

FSMCDesigns  is male AFAIK

That hair looks very much like Reby Sky Elite Hair. It's quite a bit older, but it was one of my go-to hairs back in it's generation. There's a morph for the back to pull it together into a ponytail, which looks a lot like the image you've linked.

Does anyone know what morph were used for this character?

I will give you time to move this entry then I will close the contest!

There is no one size fits all color for SSS and other settings. And it is almost impossible to just say what will work on any given character because any given character may be totally different from another. It all depends on how the textures were created, what color the base textures are, and what the intent is with them. If you desire to have a darker skin tone, then the settings you want will differ from somebody who wants a light skin.

I personally prefer sticking to near white for the base and trans colors, which lets the texture color do the talking so to speak. I like the textures to be closer to what the intended skin is, if possible.

Having said that, I really like how bluejaunte's characters tackle skin (and clearly I am not alone). IMO, it is the gloss maps that take the starring role, they provide the important top layer of skin, and are pretty much unique to BJ characters. They give the skin the tiny cracks that real skin has. Many other characters just use noise generated maps to create bump and gloss maps, not everybody, but a lot. This can work, but they become visible in closeups. Also, many Daz models have too much shine in their skin, like the entire model has shiny skin, I don't think that is right, and it is big part of why Daz models "look like 3D models" instead of more realistic people. The BJ gloss maps are made in a way that they reflect the light more properly, with the natural ridges in our skin being highlighted more correctly because the gloss maps actually have those ridges in fine detail. If you want realism, that matters.

The great thing is these gloss maps are very versatile and will work quite well with just about any character and skin with some tweaking on the material settings If you look at the BJ color textures, they surprisingly lack a lot of baked in detail, like creases and folds. Again, that detail comes from the bump and gloss maps, and this is the way I think it should be done most of the time. Normal maps can help, too, to compliment the sculpt. But one has to be careful not to go overboard with normals or details start to look like canyons, which seems to happen to a number of Daz Originals' hands. Generally, normals are for large details, bumps are for small/fine details.

Blood vessels, are you talking about visible under the skin or about the ones that kind of pop out of the skin a bit? If you need ones that pop out, this can be done with either HD morphs or displacement maps, or both. There are vascularity HD products in the store for G3 and G8, and there is a product that uses displacement maps. I can't remember if it is for G2 or G3.

You can make under the skin blood vessels by using translucency maps. Many models use the same map for both base color and trans color, but some don't.  Some do have painted vessels. You can paint in vessels on a base color and use this as a trans map if you want. You can use them in base color maps, too, but be careful as that can backfire and look fake, too. Again, it all depends on how everything else is set up. All of these things have to be balanced with each other to produce the desired effect.

I didn't mean to shift the direction of the original post; sorry if it turned out that way. This is all good information, Outrider; thanks for taking the time to share it.

With regard to the blood vessel maps, I was referring to the sub dermal kind. (I have seen the vascularity morph products in the store).

 I have several BJ characters, so I will look more closely at how the skins are set up. 

I have figured out a procedure to create a symmetrical morph from a one-sided mesh grabber change. I created the temple protrusion on the left, then created a mirror morph to get the same on the right. I can write up a tutorial if anyone is interested.

I was able to get a close approximation to the orignal G3F lips by manual adjustment. The figure is using head morphs from Arianna (14%), and Lexi (100%) - which sets Rune 7 to 65%. In the image you can see where the lips are pulled more toward center and are higher at the peak. The lips are also parted further than the original figure. 

I found another problem when trying to pose the figure. I get a lot of distortion around the elbows, wrists, and fingers. First pose is using a G8F native pose. 2nd us using a G3F native pose.

Eidt: I have also noticed a 42% stall when trying to transfer morphs from G3F Coco by Rhiannon. This may be due to the figure having G3F / G8F native files. I mention this because the orignal figure I used had Coco's head at 70%, which was removed for the comparisson below.

Very late reply, but the trick is to run the scripts when you have the v4 textures set up on a victoria 4, then save it as a preset and then bring that preset over to G8F, so you don't become entangled with the new material zones.

I am transfering a material from Genesis to G3 on a character I converted toG3 with GenX2,  I use Cayman's script to prepare G3 for the genesis material and then I tried to run NGS on it but it doesn't transfer to the new material zones.  So what you are saying is to put the material on Genesis run NGS on that, save the material, prepare G3 with the legacy UV's and then apply the newly saved material?

I just saw the same thing with a change in geometry when reloading a large scene. A plane was turned into a cube. I left it be and am curious to see if that plane>cube will "morph" into something else next time I load the scene...

This is what I get (left to right) when loading Aiko 7, applying the Teen High Heels, and adjusting Height to 100%. (Using Left View, manually spaced the figures horizontally). You can see how the center of the feet stay on the ground. Is any other parameter active when you set the Height morph (Parameters->Currently Used)?

From the looks of it, the figure is up off the ground. When you load Aiko 7 directly, what is her initial position? Transforms->Translation should all be 0. Adding the shoes appears to give the proper foot pose, and the shoe looks like it is fit to the foot (the blue ghosting), but is about 20 cm too low. Or, rather, the shoes are in the right place, but the figure is too high. The height morph keeps the zero point and shifts the rest of the body down, so the feet stay on the ground. The toes and most of the shoe are actually below ground at this point.

That is the figure loaded at 0,0,0 with the height adjusment applied.  Bottom right corner.  She is at 0,0,0 and the shoes are loaded on her at 0,0,0.  If I remove the height adj everything loks fine and she poses fine with shoes in place.  It is ONLY when the the hgt adj is engaged that the shoes float off her body.

I will assume that applies to both items, which is probably not the correct settings - that appears to be Genesis 3 (based on the default 3DL materials), so you do NOT want the source figure to be using its default pose/shape for the transfer if the clothing is not in T-pose.

However, I can't say that for certain, as that's only one of the questions I asked. Can you please show us what shape the item is imported in?

In any case, it's probably best practice to create the clothing for the default pose of the figure.
