Questions about G9
Theer is already an extensive thread on Genesis 9, including compatibility (not directly for poses or maps, though converters are being worked on, but there will be an AutoFit clone for at least the previous generation).

I don't understand why people instantly think G9 is going to crush their PC. And I equally don't understand why people would want to hold back progress for everybody else because they have a potato PC. Especially after it has been mentioned numerous times how easy it is to make this stuff work on a potato PC just in case it doesn't.
If you played video games, a 10 year PC would be even more screwed than it is for Daz. Modern games especially will not even start on a 2GB GPU from 2012. Meanwhile, you can use a CPU to render Iray if you run out of VRAM.
Technology moves forward. But that said, I don't think Genesis 9 is that radical of a leap to be so scared about. Are we really going to cry about a high quality texture? Are we really going to be terrified of a texture which can be reduced in size in less than 2 minutes? It will take less than 2 minutes to resize every Victoria 9 texture. And I am being extremely generous. Most of that time is you locating the folder. You then highlight all the textures. You then right click on your mouse. I am sure most of you know how to right click, right? Then in that menu you select the image resizer. You then select 'custom' and select the exact size you desire. The custom setting also lets you select the quality. You can lower the quality to reduce the image data size even more. You can click on the resizer settings to select whether you want to save new textures or replace the old ones completely. Once this is set, you can click accept. Then in about 10 seconds (and I say 10 only because I assume your PC must be slow), you will have replaced every single texture you had highlighted in Victoria 9's folder.
Does that sound impossible? Is that really so hard? I did this for several years myself when I started with Daz Studio. It was part of my routine. And this is not the only option. Again, it has been pointed out numerous times.
Today I find myself trying to upscale textures more than anything else. Especially environments. I am finding that many Daz environments seem to have very compressed textures. The texture might be 4K, but it is compressed to a ridiculous extreme. It really is getting on my nerves. I try to use AI image upscalers to enhance these poor quality textures. Sometimes it works. Sometimes the AI upscaling looks terrible. The point here is that is WAY WAY easier to downsize textures and compress them than it is to increase their quality. You cannot magically enhance a texture to save it. That is why it is so important to have good quality textures from the start. A good quality texture gives you options, and you can downsize easily if needed. A low quality texture doesn't give you many options.
You can reach a point of diminishing returns. That is true. But I see plenty of room for improvement in a lot of stuff I see. A good example are the ethnic textures that Daz gave us for 8.1 a while back. While this was a nice gesture, the textures themselves have been reduced in quality. As many of you probably know the textures come from past Genesis characters. The African skin is just Monique 7. I compared the original Monique textures to the 8.1 textures Daz gave us and the originals are better. I don't know if the conversion process caused this loss of detail, since Monique was a unique UV all of her textures needed to be converted, not just the "head" torso texture. But more than that, I can see a lot more compression in the new textures. So it appears to me they used a lower quality setting on the JPG when they made them. I really hope the Genesis 9 ethnic textures they are including are not as compressed. I am quite worried they will be.
Viva la potato PC's. I don't think I have a potato PC I know it's older now by today's newer stuff byt it wasn't when I built it LOL. I have a an i7 8700 six core,32 gig DDR4 RAM, (2) 1TB harddisks, EVGA SuperNova G3 80 plus gold modular PSU, and a, still going strong) GTX 1060 6 gig card. I don't render large, complex scenes so maybe I can bump up my graphics card. All I want to know is will my current system use the G9 if I chose to jump on it. I'm in this for fun and for those days I some mental relief LOL.
Will Genesis 9 Restrict Third-Party Vendors?Thre is already some discussion of thios in the main threads

It's nothing to do with their "looks" but more the obvious improvements in the model's technical qualities.
The females have been much improved with less emphasis on the prior perfect 6' runway models. I think my favorite 3D female model, among the realistic ones, is Brooke, the Manhattan Socialite. She is very nicely done.
Which Victoria is the best? Thanks for your thoughts, @Cybersox.
I agree, that it is too early to judge if Victoria 9 is really better,
but in the preview video was the comparison of the same expressions applied
to Genesis 8.1 and Genesis 9 / Victoria 9.
The look of G9/V9 expressions was much better than on previous generation, IMHO.

The problem is that all we've seen so far is a small handful of examples under a very limited set of cirumstances with a single character morph, and all that came with the repeated proviso that it wasn't a final version and what we might ultimately get could change. If you'll recall, for all the advertising hulabaloo about the improved use of facial bones over G3, the G8 figures in general have a well noted problem with smiles that break oddly in the middle, yet some vendors like bluejaunte were able to create extremely pleasant smiles using custom morphs. Will the demoed expressions work as well on other characters as well as they seem to work on V9 specifically? In the end, no one really knows how much better, if any, G9/V9 is going to do things versus the other generations except for the PAs who are already working with her, and they're no doubt buried under a stack of NDAs. Which means that until it's actually out there and in the hands of people, it's premature to really say anything about how good or bad it will really be. And, of course, there's also the little issue of there being nowhere near the variety of expression packs available for G9 as folks are already likely to have for the other generations for a good length of time...
Now, on the positive side, I do have to note that for the last few years DAZ has been doing a rather poor job of showing off what new products look like in their promo images. No, let's amend that statement to "a spectacularly bad job," as in some of the promo images for base characters being so horrible that one wonders who in the world could have thought those images were good promotions for the product. And yet, quite often even the very first test renders by artists on this side of forums have been better by orders of magnitude, so it's certainly possible that G9/V9 will look much better once it's handled by some of the better artists.

Yes, Victoria has always been the first female release of any generation of Genesis and I believe, not 100%, Michael is the first male.

"HD" is just a label. Sure it defines the morphs above base resolution, but I don't see other software calling it that. It is just a subdivided mesh. It is nothing special in other software because those software tend to allow everyone to be able to sculpt at high subdivision.
I would imagine that, to the extent that HD has a set meaning in other software, it's mostly to distinguish from low-poly models.
Yes, but it is still just a label. And in other software, it is also just a label. When it comes to TVs, we had HD years ago. Now we have 4K Ultra HD. I am surprised Daz hasn't tried advertising their morphs as "Ultra HD" yet. May as well. It has to be better than regular old HD, right? HD is so 2000's, LOL. It is time to upgrade!
I just remembered Duskrider said he thinks they will still use the PBR Skin shader. That is quite possible, I doubt Daz would reverse course on that now. But maybe this is where the new 4.21 comes into play. Maybe they tweaked that shader to PBR Skin 2.0 or something. I do think the 8K texture maps will replace the tiling. They may still have a tiling version for people who don't want to use the 8K maps. This would be fine, it would give people the OPTION. And indeed Jay said in the video that the 8K maps were optional. To me that implies there must be an alternative, and that alternative is probably the tiled textures.
I think some people are forgetting about the tiling detail maps. Those may very well be part of Victoria 9, and that would save data for those that need every byte they can get. Of course...we don't have any official word on that. It sure would be great if Daz could communicate with their customers about these things. With all of the people freaking out over 8K textures, now would be a very good time to clarify something like that. If tiling is an option on Victoria 9, that would maybe help calm some nerves of people who are morbidly afraid of large textures.

[Shell review] Gorgeous "ugly" Georgia...Hi gang!
Last time I vented, and mentioned as such, I scared the artist in question and we can't have that. So a review it is. I really think it's a shame that Daz3D doesn't provide any option for reviews below their products, IMO a seriously missed opportunitty. Anyway, I can respect them not doing so and in return I hope they can respect my wishes for still wanting to express myself. In full honesty: if not then I can totally understand. Still... so far, so good ;)
(please read my full review?)
So I'm going to be totally honest with you lot... What a horrendous figure! Those lips shout "botox" to me, did she do something to her ears too? I'm not sure but.. omg, I dunno but really. And then of course the hips. Did she get lipo-waist suction or something to make that happen? What a fake!
And what a beauty!
Apologies for what may seem like a confusing review but the above is my personal opinion when looking at Georgia as a character. See, my artistic opinion though doesn't necessarily meet that of my own, despite that maybe sounding crazy (watch me no care). But I'm serious: when looking at Georgia as a character my first impression is to turn around, move away and stay clear; she looks fake as heck to me.
But ... doesn't that emotional reaction of mine tell us something? I dunno about you but I bought this critter almost right away after, especially when I discovered the awesome discount Daz has applied (at the time of writing!). Because if 'she' manages to trigger this kind of first response in me then surely it's safe to assume that she'll trigger other reactions as well? I'm a male, and there have been several well known female popstars who I'd rather steer WAAAY clear from whereas some friends of mine considered her the hottest fem ever.
Instead of doubting myself I realized the obvious.
And at the risk of taking this a wee bit overboard but I'd also like to mention that the artist put attention to every bit of detail, including genetalia.
Which then leads us to her birthmarks... and one rather specifically placed and hard to miss (even on the product page). And if there's anything I learned from my girlfriend then... well... it only makes Georgia so much more believable for me. Because sometimes appearances are a big deal (I myself don't care all that much) and from that perspective I can suddenly understand why Georgia would have "botox lips" (= my impression!) because... maybe she tried too hard (?) to compensate other areas?
And now we suddenly have a character with some depth in her non-existing storyline.
Which makes her a perfect character for me!
Each to their own but... from my POV you are missing out without Georgia.
Heck... she even brings me back to my teens... oh dear.. "The Five"? a group of teens who wanted to be dectetives and there was this one girl called Georgina who hated her name, was also a bit of a tomboy, and wanted to be called George. Yah, I had a teenage crush on her for sure :)
Oh well.. Either way: if you're looking for a female character... one with full mats.. then this is a real big steal at the time of writing.
Genesis 3, yes, true enough, but ... seriously? Who cares?!! I still manage to make appealing and sometimes a wee bit arousing renders with Genesis. The very first? Old doesn't imply obsolete and Genesis 3rd gen is very capable.
Thanks for reading, I hope this could be useful for some of you!
PS
This is the second time I've done this and well: for the record: I will never lower myself to complain in a review about products, unless... something went really completely overboard. Thing is: I once (!) requested a refund from Daz while I was even unsure it was possible. I've been using Daz for well over 8 years. Next moment I have store credits!! And they're long used ;) My point: I believe in "if you don't have anything nice to say, then maybe don't say a thing at all?", unless of course.. context.

As to Vicky4, yeah, she was around for something like 5 years before Genesis appeared, and for the longest time, was the only Daz female figure other than the more stylised Girl, Aiko3 and Sadie which were still regularly supported (I still have a soft spot for A3 and keep snatching up clothing and hair content for her when it's on a closeout sale). Later on Aiko 4 appeared followed by Girl4, and finally, Stephanie 4 all of which based on what was referred to as the core Vicky "unimesh" but each being more distinct in overall physique (though Aiko4 lost a fair degree of that anime look which made her Gen 3 counterpart so adorable).
The thing to remember is that Vickie 3 and 4 were really the equivalents of the Genesis 1-8.5 base figures, whereas Vickie 5 and up are simply characters that use the various Genesis Female bases as a starting point and really only exist to trade on the Victoria name. Comparing Gen 4 Victoria to any of Genesis generation Vickies is therefore very much an apples and oranges situation.
FANTASY SKINS 8.1 [Commercial]You've been waiting for it for a long time and it took a long time to develop due to the nature of PBR shader.
V3Digitimes and myself are happy to present you the new version of FANTASY SKINS, specially crafted for Genesis 8.1.

We know Genesis 9 is right around the corner but we also know we all have a HUGE library of awesome 8.1 characters that deserve that brilliant treatment.
So what did we cook for you?
- 1 Fantasy Skins for Genesis 8.1 Male(s)
- 1 Fantasy Skins for Genesis 8.1 Female(s)
- 1 Fantasy Skins Special presets specifically designed for Victoria 8.1
And a bundle to rule them all !
Fantasy Skins for Genesis 8.1 Bundle

Need a red devil?
A black demon?
A green superhero?
The Fantasy Skins for Genesis 8.1 sets will provide you with all you need to make great fantasy creatures using any of your existing Genesis 8.1 characters and their original texture sets, providing more than two hundred presets, to begin with.
Even better: based on a unique shader mixer shader, you can access even more skin configurations using four layer blending effects, each effect allowing you to choose more than 26 blending modes (amongst them hue and saturation), and using two additional effects on the translucency color. Play with these effects in the surfaces editor, or simply load the existing presets and tools, it's up to you!

Adjust everything with the included Builder Tools! The figure is too dark? Is it too blue? Not enough green? Play with the incremental builder tools to increase the lightness, reduce the blue, increase the green, etc, of your current skin. They will iteratively adjust the lightness and the color of your figure to your taste.

Once the base skin is set up, you can, if you want, customize your fantasy characters in very unique and characteristic ways using the additional Top Coat options (two additional topcoat layers are included), Flakes options, Eyes options, and Nails options. Additional tools allow you to transfer skin settings to any geograft element including Anatomical Elements.

With more than 250 full presets to start with, which can all be altered by the builder tools and completed with tens of additional effects options, the only limit is your imagination.

So, let's bring all those creatures to life!

Those products will be released very soon.
If you have any question about it, please, feel free to ask them here and we'll answer the best we can.Which Victoria is the best? After fighting with the near-ubiquitous nasolabial folds on Genesis 8 female characters, I came to really appreciate Victoria 7's youthful features. The PA characters based on her were my brand of cute.
But Victoria 9 looks nice and young from what I've seen, though you can never fully suss the idiosyncrasies of a figure before you work with them.

'Fraid Gordig is correct. V8.1 is not an upgrade of V8, but instead is a completely different character. It's a real change from the way V4.2 was an upgrade from V4 in the past. All I can suggest is, if you don't want V8.1, that you return the character and ask for your money back. Regards, Richard.
I see. I had assumed that with it being "Victoria 8.1" it was an upgrade that included the previous morphs etc. The name kind of denotes it is an upgrade.
I will then have to purchase the Vic' 8 as well it seems.
Might as well build the library now. Thank you for the information. I appreciate itGenesis 8.1 is an upgrade to Genesis 8, but Michael and Victoria 8.1 are distinct characters from M8 and V8.

The difference is that now with G9 you are forced to use HD because in the unimesh there's no topology for details. While with G8 G81 you can use HD or not, depending on the final quality you wish.
@Gordig That is not a navel, it's just a hole in the mesh. It doesn't have the anatomical features for a navel, because there are no edge loops for that. With the same principle you can do something that resemble nipples, but are just bumps in the mesh, there are not the edge loops so you can't do it. Again you're forced to use HD for that.
@Wendy I doubt that G9 will provide HD morphs to relocate the nipples and navel, usually HD morphs don't "relocate". Also, it's not mentioned that G9 will have HD morphs, only Victoria 9 will. That's a easy way to limit the G9 usabilty unless you get a HD figure.
edit. Also third parties will not be able to do HD for G9, unless daz opens up the HD tools to non-PAs. So forget G9 figures to be functional outside the daz store, that's also another "smart" way to limit the G9 functionality.

First, hello everyone. Second, I'm saddened because I spent no less than a $1000s of dollars here on content from Michael / Victoria 3 to 7 - and I've tried over and over to get access to account that I opened back in 2005 - moved from England back to America - divorced - moved some more and now I'm settling back in and wish to return to this world of art only to find I've lost everything. I made the mistake of not downloading and backing up everything and even if I did - not even sure this NEW and improved Daz will show it, and I'm on a NEW computer, Windows 11 - so very frustrating and heart-breaking. It is sooo very expensive to start from scratch. Not even sure if I have the energy or money to do so. But I miss it. I've opened tickets to try and find the old account, but they said they couldn't find it. I had a gallery here loaded with art as well. I believe the last work of uploaded to it was my book cover.
I suppose I should keep on trying. But I don't know what else I can provide to help locate my old account.
I remember you.
I hope they can get you set up with all your old content again.
