Back up to a cloud service, and use 2 external hard drives as storage.

..I'd never put my projects and WIPs on someone else's server.

RAID requires the drives to be installed in the case.  If the PSU goes poof it can take everything with it.

I'll stick to an external that can be disconnected between backup sessions.

The only decent and cost effective media for bulk backups is another drive.  DVD's don't have anywhere near the capacity of an HDD/SSD and they can degrade over time (had that happen to several of my DVD backups).  Large flash drives (128 GB or higher) have slow transfer rates.

  • So we have a cat?

...yeah, we still have one that's 15 years old with the only updates being dForce fur and it no longer loads in at the size of a Great Dane.

Meanwhile there have been 2 dogs, 2 horses, 3 dragons, 2 cows.(one a morph for Horse 2) and even new fish.

We need a cat that can be posed like this:

Recently I spotted my cat drinking out of the toilet. I'd never seen any cat do it before. I don't think I could do it if I was him.

  • XTransfer Module 1- Genesis 3 to Genesis 8 Morph Converter (Commercial)

Hi. XTransfer does not do cross gender transfers. Secondly there is no need to rig the morphs if using XTransfer. If a morph you are transferring is rigged it will preserve the rigging in the transferred morph.

If you want cross gender you will have to wait for XTransfer module 2 which does G8 to G3..

Now this is how you can do it once that is released-

G8M morphs to G3M via XTransfer Module 2, that G3M morphs to G3F via genx, that G3F morphs to G8F via XTransfer module 1.

We are finishing up module 2 it's nearly done. Will we do a dedicated cross gender transfer version of XTransfer? We dont know yet...Focus is on module 2.

OK, but it isn't actually XTransfer doing the G3M to G3F morph transfer then it would by genX. I will look at buying genX then instead. I don't need to go backward from G8 to G3 really.

Looks like I'll buy those and by thatr time you G8M to G8F and vice versa might be ready if you do that.

Ye GenX does it quite well.

  • So we have a cat?

mimic configuration files for the updated Housecat and dog 8 would be lovely though enlightened

I can facially animate them other ways but Mimic live and the 32bit lipsync plugin needs a dmc and one cannot make one with morphs under actor not head!

mebbe a morph alias under head?

yes I manually move the morphs to the head but that is only good for my own use

wy can't you share a morph alias package?

it only points to the original morph, doesn't need to include it ??

I tried exporting HCat as a CR2, then opening it in Mimic Pro, loading the mildog DMC file. I had hoped to edit (hack) the DMC file in this way. I bombed royally. Maybe somebody more familiar with Mimic Pro than I am might have better luck. Or not.

An alternative would be to use HCat for body animation only. Since the scale is corrected, it makes aniblocks easier to use. Then, use MilCat and Lip Sync for closeup facial speaking. A tad klugey, but workable.

I'll take a look at this morph alias thing. If Anilip could do auto facial feature animation, I might not bother trying to do this.

More news, Cake one tested it (DS 4.12.0.86), and it works. It seems that there is an update in DIM for her, but if I remember well, this update ony consists in adding/changing metallic flakes properties, nothing to do with the transfer script (which is not supposed to have changed during this update, which occured in april or may 2019). We will have to investigate more to see what is specifically happening to you, we are waiting for your inputs.

  • Please help me get rid of something...

I'd try the right click on the animation pane and use the clear animation/clear figure pose option then try re-saving that should reset all the pose info but leave the morph info alone. I don't use aniblocks much myself I tend to use the timeline more and that is usually for dForce simulating so hopefully this should work for you with the aniblocks.

  • Ridiculously long loading time........

If you really want to use a "cleaner" G8 with injection-like behavior, it is possible to do manually. Set up a library with just what you consider bare essentials g8 stuff installed, probably be a good idea to keep "base pro characters" installed in there. Create and map another "temporary" library, and drag drop the morph sets you want to use from the product zip for the current artwork into there before openning DS and starting to work. The problem with that system, is you would have to know or make note of what to reinstall in the "temporary library" if you wish to revisit an old scene you set up. Perhaps a notepad file kept with the saved scene listing what is needed. I do this method, but with props, scenery, vehicles etc etc.

Yes, I copy and paste the "missing files" list for an old scene and someday will create scene or scene family library folders. Great idea.

  • Bend morph remove influence

Bend isn't a morph at all, it's a joint and is controlled by weight maps. You need to reassign the weights to another bone (probably the parent) with the Node Weght Map Brush tool, but from your description I'm not entirely sure it would do what you want. Many joints do have morphs associated with them - Joint Controlled Morphs (JCMs) - to help the look of the mesh, it's possible you would just want to disable ne of those. You can try that by enabling the Show Hidden Properties in the Parameters pane option menu (the lined button in the top corner of right-click the tab - in the Public Build I think it s now in a preferences sub-menu), testing t find which morph(s) you want to block, and then clicking the chain icon on the slider to unlink them.

I have committed on this issue before, and the only solution I have found to loading a character quicker was to remove morphs in the "data" folder and add them as you need them. It is a little of a pain, but your load times are faster and the RAM that each character uses is less. I don't know if this is caused by the number of character assets/morphs in the data folder or if it is because of they way I have my content library setup. I only have the character morphs that I use alot in the data folder and as I need another one I will add it before I launch a character. If you add it after you launch a character you will need to save your work and restart the program. The character will then add the morph the next time you load the scene, which isn't a problem because you can still pose and work with the scene and then correct uses later when you reopen the file.

The problem with those approaches is that one has to manually maintain a directory of morph product names(for connect), filenames(for DIM/Manual) and morph display names which is a non trivial task where the benefit does not necessarily outweigh the effort. And more importantly, you lose the capability of searching the morphs by name in the content library. Well, may be, the CMS may still have those entries but the file mapping would be missing if their paths are not included in the loaded content library so you may see empty useless placeholders assuming search works in the first place.

On the other hand, injection based morphs enable one to benefit from full content library search for morph files without requiring maintenance of an external directory and without incurring the latency overhead while loading characters.

  • When using GOZ, can we prevent DAZ Studio from sending all of a figures parented clothing to Zbrush?

Yup, this is my finding as well.  It's a total PITA to have to do that, esp if you have a very filled up scene with allot of conformers on the figure you want to sculpt on.

My suggestion, if your going to add to a dialed morph that you can't get just right with dials, save out the figure with the morphs as a new scene.  Save your current scene, close out, open up the new file scene with your figure dialed up and send that to ZBrush via GoZ.  That's been my workaround.

I'm very much on board with an option to send just the selected figure to GoZ minus the conformed items.  Nice to have a checkbox for items.  So say you want to just just make a better fit for a hair prop you have on the figure, when the GoZ export dialog comes up there would be a list of everything conformed to the figure, you simply check each thing you want to go over to ZBrush.  Not sure how hard that would be to code but it's a good idea! IMHO!  lol

  • Working with G3, problems.

Just noticed when you quoted it that I said G3 can wear G3 textures, which...duh. Thankfully, you got what I meant. A lot of G3 base characters use custom UVs, which means that if you just applied the texture to G8 as is, you’d wind up with something like this:

To fix that, you can either use DS’s Map Transfer function to copy the textures onto G3’s default UV, which is identical to G8’s, or buy the appropriate Legacy UVs product.

  • Fantasy Skins For Genesis 8 [Commercial]

Hey, love this product, really works great.
However recently the Gen skin transfer stopped working, it just says the script is unable to run.
Have tried on BETA and standard Daz, any idea why this is happening?
Struggling to find any info or log capture.

Hi, I just tried DS 4.12, and it works for me. I'm gonna ask cake one if she has an issue. It's weird because nothing changed in Daz which would prevent it from working.

Have you tried to copy the script somewhere (on your deskstop for instance) and to drag and drop it on your figure?

Is your product connect installed or DIM installed? If you installed it using one version, you can try to install it using another version. Eventually you can uninstall and reinstall the full product with the same installation option before you swap from DIM to connect or inversely.

Let me know if what I proposed help.

I have tried on norrmal and BETA. on fresh install too..
    Still not working.
DIM is installed. everything is done the correct way..
How do you mean copy the script?
It just use to work.. so im confused to why it no longer does..
    Have tried uninstalling and reinstalling..

OK, I asked Cake one if she had an issue, because on my side it works perfectly, but I know she is not working on the same DS version as I am. Waiting for an answer, but in the meantime:

    1. Can you make me a copy of the end of the log file (DS top menu help/troubleshouting/view log file) when you launch the script, and post it here?

    2. By copy the script, I mean, you right click on the script, make "browse to file location", once done you select the script (in your normal browser), make "copy", then go for instance to your desktop, make "paste", and then you drag and drop the script in the viewport.

    3. Last question, did you try other figures, or is the issue limited to one figure?

    4. "edit": does the interface open or not at all?

  • Ridiculously long loading time........

PM me the names of the actually erroneous sets and if I hve them I will look at them, and raise a ticket if need be. I am pretty sure not beng bothered isn't the issue, it would help if you would refrain from comments like that.

    PM sent.

The other product was more of a generalization, basically any product with correctives for other products will create errors if that other product isn't installed.
Simple example of this is Vicky 8, she has a bunch of correctives that work on the morph assets that came with the starter essentials, but she also has a bunch that need the Head, Body and Expression morph packs. Until recently I didn't have any of those morph packs, still don't have the Expressions, so she generated twelve errors for me, I'll let you figure out how many errors that would be if I owned every G8F character DAZ made, but still didn't have the morph packs.

A "cover the ass move" would be to go through every product and add a required products to anything with correctives.

I'm not saying these are "bad" and causing the long load times because they aren't, but they are slowing down DS and your computer, so the more you have the slower things get.

The long load times are down to nastier errors, basically they are causing DS to go "not responding", the more of these you have the longer it takes DS to recover, add in a boat load of the other errors to slow down DS and your computer, and it's no wonder some are talking about 30 minute load times..
Main problem here is despite all the people complaining about long load times, they don't come back and shown their log file, so even I have no idea WTF is causing them although I do have some suspicions. Three "Failed to create alias" has locked up DS for 4 minutes for one user, problem here is the log doesn't tell which alias file it crapped out on.
