Bump and Normal Maps for Character Skins
I discard bump maps when I render on iRay and only use Normal maps.
on the other side I do the inverse with Filament: select Bump maps and discard Normal maps.
not necessary using both at the same time.

Misleading - Tenley for Genesis 8.1 Femaleare the 8.1 maps for the filament thing?
have yet to learn what the R map is for
New DS Filament Render EngineUnreal Engine can have the same issue as Filament using an opacity map
the solution is to change from a translucent to a masked material and add a dither brick inbetween the masked opacity
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dither#Digital_photography_and_image_processingNow that got me thinking about how one could do this with Cutout Opacity for filament
I have tried a noise texture in the layered image editor using multiply, additive etc to no avail
fix that pesky opacity map problemLOL Filament needs this brick

Finding Things in DAZ3d 4.15I use the texture shaded draw style in the viewport as well. My workflow is that I add the Environment setting from the "Create" menu, then I fine tune whatever I need using the Parameter tab (need to choose the node in "Scene first". I find this useful as well because I can pop into the Filament preview and line up my HDRI (though, it never looks the same as iRay, it is useful for light direction at least.) My scenes are often too complex to use iRay preview.
Hope this helps.

just trying to find a way to change the value of the skydome's rotation from keyframe to keyframe, so as to simulate the sky moving in animation. tried to do this with a filament render, under the environments properties, but even though I see it in the timeline, the rotation value is global
so am I doing something wrong or is there a workaround?
something like this sky rotating?

What is this Filament that you are talking about? What is is used for and how do I disable it? DAZ has been super slow lately and even crashing.

skydome rotation in animationtry using a actually skydome prop you can rotate. I like glasseyes skydomes for this purpose. https://www.sharecg.com/pf/full_uploads.php?pf_user_name=glaseye
he also has expansion paks for the skydome. though you will need to convert it to filament or iray they are made for 3delight
another trick that works is create a flat plane primitive and add a sky texture to it. then scale place it in front of your camera as needed for POV and drag it slowly as you do, it will appear the sky is moving. justa quick little cheat.

@ Daveso this is a belated thanks for replying to me a while back. At that point I was going to finally build my printer before getting back to you. Then one day passed and one more etc.
Anyway I built the Ender 3 Pro on Saturday and only today got to try my very first print. I'm amazed at how well it turned out but disappointed that the white filament fails to show it well in the pictures I'm attaching.
Although there are many videos online showing the same test models printed over and over again, I took the plunge and tried printing something I downloaded a long time ago - from Sketchfab, I think. I had found it zipped up on my hard drive recently and had tried it out in Carrara.
I'm showing two pictures of it from Carrara (where the light shows the detail - it isn't a huge detailed mesh, however) and two pictures of the print with a drinks can to show the scale. I took minimum time over setting up the model (slicing, etc.) because I was certain I was only setting out on a path of many failures. I'm still surprised that it came out OK.
Thanks. I'm really happy this is working for you. I need to ocncentrate more and getting this to work with every model. My last print wasn;t too bad. I did it myself with Meshmixer. I also sent the same model to Gameprint, but I have not printed the gameprint STL yet. Will do that. This guy is 3-1/2 inches high. You can see the swirls. I printed in 0.20 layer. I think it needs to be finer and also printed standing up. Pretty good weight balance though.
I think grey shows the detail better than most filament colors. You modelled him yourself? He has really good proportions.
I chose grey for my models just because I plan on painting them all.
3D Print Questions - Differences in slicer software, cost of printer.For anyone who might be intersted... Here's Adam Savage's Tested review of the Elegoo Mars 2 Pro Resin Printer;
Anyone who's thinking of printing small miniatures with filament should really reconsider. The best resolutions are pretty poor and require a lot of post print clean up work (and those figures are brittle). And if you are a little picky you probably won't be happy. (FYI... Hero Forge has color prints now, and those are quite good, although still not that high a resolution.)
One question I have for people using 3D printers with Daz, is how they convert Daz models. Last I checked the stuff in Daz is really not compatible with 3D printing. Clothing is infinitely thin, and needs to be processed in order to have some volume before you can consider printing. Other issues can be cleaned up in Daz, like, making limbs thicker so they don't break.

Making Daz objects printable is one of the features of GamePrint;

Skin Builder 8 Merchant Resource for Genesis 8 Female (Commercial)Well this was created before Filament, so there is a button switcher between texture or Iray preview. The script was designed to work in either of those. I suppose we will do an update to the startup splash image to make mention of this.
DAZ Galleries Gone Forever? There are fragmentary threads here with no actual answers to the question of when the DAZ Galleries will return -- and all of those threads seem to have been closed off since the beginning of January. But there is no single, simple answer from DAZ management about when the User Galleries will be coming back and if they will be different than they were before they vanished.
With Filament technology, 8.1 characters, and backend retooling all happening simultaneously, it's no wonder that the Galleries were put on a back burner. Any one of those changes would have been enough to keep the staff working overtime, and a business plan that involves doing them all at once is an interesting one to ponder. But when users are unable to access (either to add or delete) the renders that they uploaded to the DAZ database, some sort of answer as to where and why that database disappeared, and when it will come back, should be forthcoming.
The DAZ Galleries were a professional forum, and many of us used them to improve our skills by getting feedback from people who knew what they were talking about. That crucial feedback is sorely missed. And many of us used our posted renders as a way to promote the assets that we purchased from DAZ. One would think the vendors would like to see that come back again.
Genesis 8.1 / Victoria 8.1The New PBRskin
Someone likely has mentioned this and I didn't hoist it in; but, it came to me when I should have been sleeping. . . . I did not tinker with shader settings or lighting, which some might say makes the observation meaningless. . .
I find the Uber Shader and PBRskin Shader produce quite different results. That is likely a matter of settings and others have shown some amazing results earlier on in this thread with the new shader. (I have to get V or M8.1 first I yhink to get a jumping off point.) But I often find myself down the 'why' rabit hole. And one of my longstanding 'whys' was render time; and another was the difference between preview and render images. So I put the 'whys' together and got a 'wow!'.
In words: the new skin shader will 'Filament Preview' something that much more closely resembles an iray randered result. Maybe that's a blinding glimps of the obvious? I don't know. But I like it.
Skin Builder 8 Merchant Resource for Genesis 8 Female (Commercial)I think I have the solution to the problem. When you start the Skinbuilder, the shader must not be set to "Filament (PBR)". You have to use "Texture Shaded".
Crashes Due to FilamentNo patterns unfortunately, but this happened yesterday to me when accidentially switching to Filament. So I can confirm it exists, unfortunately...
Crashes Due to FilamentYeah, that's where I ended up submitting it. Anyone else seeing these sorts of issues -- crashes with Filament? Anyone finding any patterns?
