  • Something big is coming!

his arms are very ape like. But no gens texture, means a hard pass for me. I'll risk the clothes since I can use my last use of the plat coupon on them.

Just be aware: according to the file list in the Readme, there are no real morphs in them. Just an "Adjust fit" morph, whatever that means, along with FBMs for major characters.

Interestingly, Lessons Appear To Have Been Learned ... even if they're not lessons we might like having been learned. All the Underbelly stuff -- the character and clothes -- has data directories that are just "Underbelly". No indication of who made them at all. I would assume the character was made by the person cited in the other thread, given that he looks pretty much identical. Probably the clothes as well, since they look like those clothes.

For what it's worth, I like the look of the character. That said, he's the third Daz-O adult male in recent months not to have anatomical elements, for those for whom that might matter.

Because it's not a "Pro Bundle" and DAZ can't break that stupid policy.

Um ... the only characters I've been aware of that were Daz-O and lacked anatomical elements were Manu and Daniel from the Dain 8 Pro Bundle. So I'm not entirely sure what you're talking about.

I had noticed the lack of morphs, but I'm willing to risk $4. At least I don't have to buy three things to get it for that price.

The thing that threw me, until I looked at the clay render, is that they've got him posed so strangely in his shirtless photos that his nipples look like they're in different time zones.

Here is boyd in the outfit, with one of the texture expansions. There was minor pokethrough on his feet, and on the shirt front, and the buige morph but I'm used to it. Sometimes the boys HD do not play well with clothing. Fortunatley, making the limbs hidden worked well.

it's a combination of hexagon and carrara new program to compete with blender, zbrush, maya and others to sculpt/morph your own figures for daz studio with hd capability morphs continuing to add to the other plug ins to create your own hair and import faces. There will be a free/cheap basic version (like Blender) and a more advanced expensive version like Zbrush but not that expensive which would make sense for daz to do this as a lot of people use one of these two programs to make content for daz it would make sense for them to have their own versions and to encourage everyone to just use their products just like microsoft does

  • Wishful Thinking

Does anyone else have wishes sloshing around inside the gray matter?

I wish I could get 2 instances of DAZ Studio to run on separate computers so when one is rendering, I can play with the other.

You can't? Not that I have tried, but I wasn't aware it was an issue.

I've actually done that several times, creating new scenes with the laptop while rendering on the desktop. Synchronizing the content directories can be annoying, but it definitely works.

Would you be willing to expand on that "synchronizing the content directories" part?

Well unless you have your content on a shared network drive or something like that, you'll have a content directory on each machine.

So if you want to be able to work on your scenes from both machines, you will need to install all your content on both, and when you save anything custom (like a scene, a preset, a texture made with Skinbuilder...) then you need to transfer it to the other machine, with the technical files it uses if they're not there already.

And if you use smart content or categories and create any custom entry on one system you'll need to recreate it on the second one too.

Nothing complicated, but that's a bit tedious.

So like, if I save a scene on one machine to D:\DAZ\DAZFiles .. then on the other machine I need the same path? Then the file can be used by both machines?

  • Strictly Business Outfit for G8F - Strange morph files included?

The plaid shirt is a shader, but with the shirt's default normal map applied. There is a problem with the mesh of the collar and a top button that's on the inside of the shirt (but that can be hidden or deleted).

I think the top button is actually deliberate (although it doesn't make a lick of sense as the shirt is constructed). That's a button that you would button if you intended to wear a tie with the shirt. However, there's no morph or any way to close the shirt up there, so the button has no function.

I picked up the outfit, since I was getting enough other stuff that I could always return the outfit without screwing up the discounts if I wanted. I will say that I've never seen a shirt as bizarrely constructed as that; "Shirt" and "interior shirt", indeed. (I do not understand the purpose behind the "Shirt" dickey, since it will make collision incredibly difficult and fiddly to load the jacket without the "interior shirt " ... if you could load the jacket without the interior shirt, but they load together. I actually wonder if maybe it was submitted with just the shirt dickey originally, and Daz said, "Um ... maybe do an entire shirt there, mmKay?" (You can always just delete the interior shirt if you don't want it, I guess, for that Miami Vice no-shirt look.) (And here the young'uns say, "What the heck is Miami Vice?") Oh, and you need to set smoothing/collision on yourself; it doesn't load on by default. You need to do that, because otherwise, the shirt bottom sinks into your character.

As Phoenix1966 noted, the shirt has painted shadows, for whatever reason. It does have modeled wrinkles ... with no way to smooth them out. You can use a shader to get rid of the painted shadows, but because it only has one surface, using a shader also gets rid of the textured button placquet, which makes the shirt look slightly odd -- no sports/dress shirt of that type would be made without that sort of placquet, I think. The way the shirt is built makes sense for a game, but maybe not a lot of sense for Studio.

EDIT: Ok, I see. The issue with the complete shirt, as opposed to the shirt dickey, is that it has modeled rolled-up cuffs. They poke through the jacket if you have that shirt on the character. And, of course, the shirt is only one material zone, so you can't hide the sleeves. Adding a smoothing modifier to the jacket and setting it to collide with the shirt mostly works, although it does leave a slightly peculiar swelled area in the forearm.

The textures for the pants also have painted details and shadows, but also modeled front pockets, belt loops, wrinkles and cuffs. If you use a shader to get rid of the painted shadows, you wind up wiping out the beltline, front button and placquet, and back pockets.

It's ... not a horribly constructed suit, unlike Bouncer with the Dain 8 bundle. It could be considerably better constructed, but ... put it this way: it displays all the hallmarks of someone having looked at the issues with the Bouncer suit and saying, "OK, this thing they did here? don't do THAT," but at the same time, not really saying, "OK, don't do THAT, but do THIS to make it a really well constructed item." (It's going to get a lot of Fit Control morphs thrown at it, is what I'm saying.) That said ... it's a not-terrible very basic suit, with all the parts separate that should be separate -- even if some of them are really weird.

  • High Poly Exports Workaround

Very interested to find out how you sort the issues out around the mouth/parts of the mesh that get welded.  I had the same problem when I was trying to find a way to do this in Maya.  Didn't know enough about Maya to solve it and nobody could help (they thought what I was trying to do wasn't really possible/reasonable).

That sucks you were so close to a solution and couldn't find someone to help you figure that next part out.

When you transfer the vertex groups some of the lower lip weights get transferred to the upper lip and vise versa.

So when you rotate the lower jaw bone down some parts of the lower lip stay put and some parts of the upper lip go down.

Here you can see how some of the LipLowerMiddle weights got transferred to the upper lip and are missing from the lower lip.

Same thing with the upper and lower teeth.

    Yeah, used to be Morphs++

To generate the ExP files, change to the Advanced tab. It will be a checkbox at the bottom. Like I said, it only needs to be done once for all morph sets, so check them all the first time before continuing. Next time you load M4, you can uncheck it, all morphs will be available.

  • [Released] OsoDreamer's FelineFolk

I was looking at the tiger character that released yesterday, and I noticed something... Though they appear similar, exterinally, it's an entirely different species from the Oso-Dreamer cat folk.  You can tell from the teeth that the OsoDreamer cat person is evolved from carnivore ancestors, while the rakasha is evolved from frugivores. ;)
Thank you for the amazing attention to detail, in both :) You could use the feline folk teeth for Rakash, right?  My system is all tied up with a render right now, so I can't check - is that the "add-ons" object?
Do you know if anyone's done a good angry feline ears-back morph yet? Or is there one included that I haven't looked for in the right place yet?

FOUND IT! .... Expand Chest and then click to highlight Real World instead of any item categories under Real World. I have several categories showing under that heading and failed to just click the heading itself. That's where they were hiding.

YAY .. no more big bazooms.

I think you could also try removing the limits on the morph slider and choose a negative vaue.

  • The Mac FAQ

I don't have ZBrush so I don't, obviously, have GOZ installed. Hopefully someone has and can reply. I was just trying to look at if from a "systems perspective". But launching is usually straight forward, but on the other hand, creating virtual links to programs usually involves more intricate stuff that cn go wrong.

Thanks anyway. Any advice is welcomed.

Just out of interest, what external modelling software do you use? Im still new to modelling outside of Daz so im open to other ideas. Blender is an option for me if i can't get zbrush to work. Or if someone knows the old fashion way of using the .obj and .mtl files that zbrush spits out to make a morph in daz im all ears.

It looks like there was a glitch during the download -- if there are any files starting with im00066723 in the downloads folder, delete them and re-download.

Having the folder named "Content" inside your actual library folder will give you problems if you try to use the Audrey morph along with other morphs.  Is the Audrey 8 actor or morph preset working?

  • Celebrity Look-a-Likes for 3D figures Part 2

I noticed Felldude over on Renderosity claims to have figured out how to do HD with Blender. Must admit I'd not try anything more of his as one of his morphs is still causing errors in G8F on my machine even after carefully removing all the files it installed.

I’d be curious to hear his explanation, because anybody can sculpt an HD morph in any modeling program; it’s getting it into DS as a morph for a Genesis figure that’s the hard part, and is only supposed to be possible for people who have the tools, i.e. Daz PAs.

It might be part of the G8F basic morph pack (which is so indispensable it should really be included with G8 essentials), but there are “breasts small” and “breasts gone” morphs that should get you at least close to what you’re after.
