Rigging: Is it better to do it in Daz or Blender?
Thanks for the replies ^^
I've done the transfer rigging on a humanoid model before. But I commissioned someone to sculpt/create head and body morphs of that character to replace it.
Anyway, I'm working on a Prop for the (house) cats of Daz Studio, and I'm trying to rig the string. Blender is starting to do my head in, so I just wondered if it was easier in Daz Studio (although I'll have to find a Yt video to give me the basics on rigging). If I can get it to a standard that I'm happy with, I'll be releasing it as a freebie in the future.
XTransfer Module 1- Genesis 3 to Genesis 8 Morph Converter (Commercial)Hello - i am finding now that for all new Characters i load the teeth are being distorted; upon investigation, i found that the XT Mouth Realism HD Morph is being automatically applied at default value of 100%. I now have to manually move this slider to 0% to restore the Characters teeth to original. As this seems to be associated with XTransfer, is there a fix to diable this behaviour and not automatuically have this XT Morph applied by default?
Best way to build custom charactersBut yes, a morph built off of V8 as a base, will still work on G8F. It will still work, but it will not "look as intended" because the deltas will be off. Again, the morph will still function.
Thank you very much for your replies, lilweep and Gordig ! Sorry, what are "the deltas"?
Morph Loader Pro issuesAh, so you find it odd too? I mean, the differences aren't all that huge, it's really negligible. But almost all of the values are different, leave for a few one or two which are same. Again, I am not sure if that's how morph loader is supposed to work or not, but taking in your reaction I'll guess maybe not. Hmm, I see. Maybe it's just measure metrics only. Discrepancies arise more when MM's own T pose is set to the character. While in A pose, the number of nodes/points measured reduced quite a lot and the difference between the values was really minute. Unlike before. The neck (neck circumference) still seemed to be the worst yet still somehow. There's about .15 cm or 15 mm of a difference (whereas others are in the range of 1mm to 5mm in T pose, and in 1mm to 2mm in A pose) between the original and the morphed as per measure metrics. Reverse Deformations helped a lot but didn't fix the entire thing.
Best way to build custom charactersMost people who want to make a new character base it on something else: V4, Genesis, V5, Gen2, V6, Miki 4, etc.As far as I understand it, the characters like Victoria 8 and Michael 8 are based on Genesis 8 Female and Genesis 8 Male and cannot be used independently. So it would be proper to say that V8 and M8 are just full body morphs of G8F and G8M. Therefore, when an artist creates a new character based on Victoria 8, in effect he creates a new morph based on another morph of Genesis 8 Female. So far everything is logical. However, when this new product goes to the store, it has a note that the product requires not just G8F (whch would be logical) but Victoria 8 as well. Why is it so? Let's talk about this beautiful product as an example - Margot for Victoria 8 ( https://www.daz3d.com/margot-for-victoria-8 ) Why cannot it work without V8 if it is based on G8F?
Obviously, there is some technical reason. Can you explain it?
It does WORK without V8, but since the morph was built off V8 instead of base G8F, it won’t look the same without her.

What causes an iray render to take the most time rendering?this is a animations I made, it took 7 days to make from start to finish. about 4 days to render out 22 scenes. I was getting around 12 seconds a frames running at 30 keyframes per second at 1920 x 1080 . So the finished results would be in 1080hd.
the only reason I was able to get these render times were because I removed all the normal maps and reduced the 4k texture maps to 2k. & Yes I was using volumetric lighting & fog props, and water panes with high volume shine as well which made no difference in my render times.
Its a fun watch. Click to play 3 minute short film. Best viewed in 1080HD
wow..nice. What scenery is that..the mountains and woods? the water animation. the great fluffy clouds.
Thank you very much
This film was a kit bash of about 5 different enviroment sets.

The iray clouds i used "Above the Clouds for Iray: Nimbostratus". That I hand keyframed using the morph dials as needed along the timeline. https://www.daz3d.com/above-the-clouds-for-iray-nimbostratus
For the animated water I have a custom ground pane that I made myself for animated water I added some wave morph dials to it & wave bump maps for a good reflection and water ripple effect. I use this a lot in other animations I have made as well.
I also used the bubble aray in the Rigged Water Iray 2 set by Sickleyield for some added water splashes under the plane during take off. https://www.daz3d.com/rigged-water-iray-2
Thats it accept the character who was a genesis 8 female call Cami by Sassy at renderosity.
pJCM Poses - For Clothing Creators - Questions@DarkEdgeDesign or if anyone else can answer.
I am not familar with DAZ's UI. I am not seeing the extra pJCM in the parameters is it a hidden thing?

I did some testing and it is not working. I created a morph for pJCMCollarUp_55_L and named the morph OBJ as pJCMCollarUp_55_L as stated in the video. I loaded the OBJ morph into Morph Loader Pro and left everything as defaulted.

DED used a preset, not sure what it does or if it is required as I do not have a preset. The preset was also left as none. I then click accept and a pop up appears because of the duplicate name, but in his video he did not get that. I then just left the row blank and clicked OK and get a message that morph is successful created, but I do not see the morph take into effect. It's still messed up underneath the armpit.
Celebrity Look-a-Likes for 3D figures Part 2I think the Louisa morph from P3D's Latonya morphs package is a closer resemblance:
Can Genesis 3 figures be imported into Carrara?Hi Dartanbeck-
I too love the way your web site it shaping up!
A question on the NLA workaround on transferring pose and morph settings to a new instance of Genesis 3 female/Janette so a newly installed set of morphs can be applied. I've just tried it in a new scene, and when I've inserted the NLA master pose clip, it seems to again block the new morphs from being applied.
Did I maybe miss a step or your point?
Thanks again!
Is it possible to transform M4 Base into a G8 character? This enables G8 to wear the skins of M4: https://www.daz3d.com/legacy-uvs-for-genesis-8-michael-4
Thank you Catherine! I purchased it but am now trying to understand the difference between the character convertors and the skin UV you mentioned. I am assuming one has to do with upgrading the "bones" from M4 to G8 while the other allows the M4-G8 character to utilise M4 skins instead of G8 skins. I definitely have to stop rendering for a couple of days to begin learning how all these work.
I do not use character converters, or morph transfer utitlities, etc. {would not be upgrading the bones, but morphs - to make G8M look like M4 - and by the sounds of it, adjusting the existing rigging to the new morphs.}
The legacy UVs come with instructions for use. Generally speaking first you load the geografts to the figure {it will look weird for a minute}. Then you apply the M4 skin you want to use {may have to load it first to M4 and save out new mat files 'cause the super old mat files are not read by present day D/S}. Then on the Surfaces Panel, select the lot and find the UV dial {can use the search bar at the top} and select the UV set for M4. Hopefully everything looks right. Again though the old mats would be for 3D rendering, so if rendering in Iray - need to apply an Iray shader. Holding down the Ctrl key while applying shader one can tell it to ignore maps. May have to reset a few bump/displacement maps. When done, save out a new mat file - saved to a logical place like a subfolder perhaps under the Genesis 8 male, characters, M4, etc.
pJCM Poses - For Clothing Creators - QuestionsThis has peaked my interest :)
Got some questions though if anyone can answer it. In the first picture. If I had a morph for each of the leg lift. Will it combine both morphs if both legs were lifted would it just cause it to balloon up?

Likewise with the arm lift and bend in. If I had a lift arm morph and an arm bend morph and pose the arm to be lifted and bend in will they get combined and balloon up or DAZ knows to blend the two morph in between.

Generation 3 Aiko and Hiro Appreciation ThreadJust not the same.
Agreed, your A3 characters are much cuter! It's much harder to get G8F as cute as A3, imo. Thorne characters may be a good start? Here is a similar goblin type character I made with a G8F Sakura blend a while back. My latest creations are using older Aiko 3/4 stuff yet again (the Golden age of Daz anime
)Yep, Sakura or Toon Generation to cut down on the realism, and I've noticed a general lack of just features morphs. It would've be awesome if Capsces Digital Ink had done a morph pack. And I think I like the creature creator morphs for gen 3 more than the ones for gen 8, and I'm guessing if you try transferring them to gen8 it would ruin them. Sounds like learing to sculpt is in order.
Need Help with morphs pleaseOk, so ive read around the forum but cant seem to find the answer to my question. Close but not exactly.
Ive created a character custom from use of other morph packages and other character dials.
My character will not move in my scene now because of the morphs im assuming.
Is there a way to save all the morphs into one whole character shape without pulling from all of the other morphs involved? I feel like its a memory problem or something but i may be wrong.
I hope I am explaining this properly.
I dont want to share or redistribute my character, I just want to load my character easily without involvinbg all of the other packages so i can use my character. this isnt the first time ive had this problem, Id like to solve it once and for all.
thanks in advance for any advice or help.
How to fix hand rigging for female sasquatch morphs for G8MYour image won't open for me, the site triggers a security warning.
Are you sure you are using the right slider? From your description it sounds as if you may be using the (usually hidden) Genesis 8 Female clone shape that allows AutoFit to work, but which isn't made to be used as a morph.
Genesis 9 delayed until at least 2020. Will you be buying it?
Agreed. I don't have a lot of character packs and morph packs so migrating to G9 would be easier except I need to redo some of my custom morphs. For me I won't upgrade if G9 does not offer some improvement I'm interested in. I don't see a lot of incentive to upgrade if the improvements are quite minor.I did not have the elements I needed to work with Genesis 8 Female until Zelara 8 was released---almost 14 months after Victoria 8---along with EJ Face Morphs and Details. For the males, it took even longer. So, I think I may hold off on Genesis 9 until they start giving away G9 Pro Bundles, unless they make a Core Figure that is so stunning that I can't wait.
I can think of ...Better eye geometry
Hire DMaster to design G9 facial expression
Hire DMaster to design the bend controls and HD creases
Hire bluejaunte to design G9's skin shader, ideally implement new SSS
I wouldn't mind but I guess from the many forum posts it seems there is a market for this: if you have bluejaunte on board anyway, let bluejaunte design G9's feet
Something like this, doesn't even need to re-invent everything that G8 did well.
All of those ideas are excellent, which is why I think most of them won't happen. I would add: Fix the twisty biceps and lat gaps.
Morphing brushAs a side thought; would it be possible for PA skilled in this area to produce a plugin specifically designed to provide on the fly Morph Brushes within DS. I'd pay for that!
Guiven what has already been done with the SDK I'm sure it would be possible, yes.
Genesis 9 delayed until at least 2020. Will you be buying it?I hope they will make G9 soon since G8 was a massive fail to me. I didn't like 90% of the pro bundles and Victoria 8 has never looked as bad.I agree with that, and i don't think theer has been enough diversaty in the clothing products, they just seem to have been re vamp hash from pevious models and clothing.
Then use morphs to make em look like what you want; transfer clothes from the generation that has what you want.
... Why? Because whenever G9 appears, what's to say you'll like it.
[Released] Bone Breaker Fantasy Armor for Genesis 8 Males [Commercial]@watchdog79 "Perhaps it is going to work better on core characters containing the Genesis 3 clones? As soon as I learn what that actually means"
I've been working with Studio for 15 years and I don't know what you mean, particularly about containg G3F clones. Nevertheless ths attached is LY Arden with Kadis.
This is a quote from the description of just about any core Genesis 8 figure I can think of:
Backward Compatibility (Read More)
The most backward compatibility ever, through included clones for Genesis, Genesis 2, & Genesis 3.
There are no "Core character who contain clones", the clones are part of the base figure. That promo line applies to G8, not to the specific character.
A clone is a special type of morph used by autofit to convert clothes from a source figure to the figure which has the clone. DS uses it to compute how to adjust the mesh of the clothes so they fit the target figure.
Thank you.
The Kadis armour fits Genesis 8 quite fine, but the problem with the product is, that some parts of it simply do not work with Genesis 8, such as the poses, which is a real pity.
I would really love to see it remade to prtoperly work for Genesis 8.
