DIM CSV Files
DAZ Connect only caused me headaches. The biggest problem was that I have over 13k of products. So the menus were a nightmare.
Then when I did use it, the database collapsed and I had to reinstall everything because none of the content would come up. I don't remember the details as it was a few years ago... but my red eyed rabid rantings of insanity are archived somewhere in these forums.
This is why I am so motivated to try and find some sort of solution.
The 13k of products makes sorting through them virtually impossible. So I am constantly browsing the online catalog to see thumbnails, check compatibilities, etc. I keep DIM constantly running so that I can then filter my items by the title. Installing just the ones I need at that time.
The amount of content is such that I have to keep the DIM download packages on an external drive. I have also taken to installing non-essential items (props, lights, shaders, for example) to an external drive for easy access. (Before anyone comments on the speed of that, I have a M3 SSD drive connected to a USB3 port, so its almost as fast as an internal drive.)
Going back to my original example... G8F characters; I have 600+ of them. Just think about how many morph dials that is. I look back at the old days of "inject morphs" with a fondness now.
All of this means I need to be conservative about what I install. So I try to only install things like Lights and Shaders. Everything else gets installed as needed.
DIM CSV FilesIt can be done with a bit of programming I believe but only for installers already downloaded (at least with the method I'm thinking of).
That's the frustration I have... The data exists, but its not being used. If the data didn't exist then you wouldn't be able to browse the store in the Places > Structures > Interiors manner (for example).
If I tell DIM to select all items from a CSV, then it should ignore items that are in the CSV but not in my downloaded assets. So if there were complete lists of the assets in certain categories, then it would be simple to use those in conjunction with DIM.
Well you don't need data for other products than those you own, so if you have all the installers downloaded the necessary data is there. The latest version of DAZ Product Manager is using these data to locate products in the DS categories as you probably know, it's the same principle just a slightly different context.
Well, I was mentioning content I didn't own because I was hoping that there was some sort of data file for all of the content. That way the CSV files would be universal.
It just irritates me to no end that in the store I can go:
Shop > People and Wearables > Genesis 8 People > Female... Then see all of the characters available. Easily being able to see which ones I own.But in DIM, all we have is People > Generation 8... Which is, frankly, useless as it only shows the base Gen 8 characters.
Install Manager has access to the package infomation, I think that's just the entries in the .dsx file. it doesn't have access to store data such as the categories. In any event there is not an exact one-to-one correspondence betwnn DIM packages and store products.
Understood.
But the classification / sort data has to exist somewhere. Otherwise the website would not be able to be sorted at all.
Currently DIM provides next to no filtering of any substantial use.
Now we come to what is motivating my efforts here... The abundance of Gen 8 Female characters with no way to filter them from being installed. If one is installed, the morph dials are installed. If the morph dials are installed then they load every time any G8F model is added to a scene. The more characters installed the bigger the hit on the model.
At this point I am willing to take the time to create a pivot table or a conversion database just to correlate the existing classification database into a DIM compatible CSV file.
I understand that the packages don't automatically contain this classification information... though it baffles me as to why. But I am not going to beat a dead horse or gansh my teeth over it. I'd rather try to find a solution with the skills that I do have at hand.
Mystique 2 & Expansions for G8F [Commercial]It would be great if you could at some point create a morph to adjust each Strappy Garter strap individually.
Morph Loader Pro always failing (Geometry not matching despite it's the same)Hello,
I'm loading Genesis8 female and exporting an OBJ.
Then I'm immediately importing it again with Morph Loader Pro and it's failing "Geometry does not match".
Actually I wanted of course to sculpt on the OBJ outside a blend shape, but this even doesn't work with the original file.
What's wrong here, what is the reason?
Thanks
(DAZ Studio 4.12 Pro)
Mixer shape for famillyI did this a while back:

Favorite the morph(s) you want to transfer across genders, then use the Transfer Utility with this settings, tweaked as needed for your specific scenario:
saving autofitted breaks it for domino transferyes I know saving as a support asset works
been doing it for years for use in Carrara
but since I was not intending to use these in Carrara (where I prefer the original figures anyway) I was just trying to save some steps in DAZ studio
converting them to props and using the transfer utility would be another option
saving autofitted breaks it for domino transferI saved my autofit clones as morph assets. They have to be "modifier/clone" types. Each figure has their own autofit clone {morph} made for each figure type required.
Legacy figures AFAIK do not qualify for autofit clones. One can get the legacy shapes of them for most if not all of the Genesis clans and make their own autofit clones [or buy them].
Because they are essentially morphs, no one cannot take autofit clones from figure A and make them work on figure B - with the possibly exception of G2M and G2F. [same mesh - just copy and rename the files - disclaimer, I have not tried this for autofit, just regular morphs].
Don't know if any of this info helps you or not ...
yes understand
have used your clones as well as the ones I bought from DAZ and few I made myself
this is clothing that has just been fitted to one figure then saved as a scene subset not a support asset
it obviously saves much less information so the autofit dialogue won't come up
even if you do it using the included DAZ starter essential clones between genders
it has nothing to do with the clones but how autofit apparently works
Oh the clothing! {I'll get there}
TBH have not tried saving unfinished work as scene subsets since discovering that cleaning up the bits and pieces scattered about in the data folders {so that the morphs would work correctly} was not a time saving thing to have to do.
Myself and others have found the best workflow for clothing from figure to figure goes something like this:
Clothing from figure A is autofitted to figure B. Save that refitted clothing into DIFFERENT folders. Clear the scene. Load in next figure C, and that recently made clothing from B's closet, autofit it to figure C [usually telling the clothing to "fit to" brings up the dialog if it doesn't happen when loading the clothing]. Save it for figure C again to DIFFERENT folders. I stress different {not shouting} because if one does not, the geometry data will keep overwriting itself resulting in only the last item made, remaining, all the priors lost.
Then one clears the scene and repeats to bring the clothing from C's closet to figure D, and so on.If one uses the very same clothing mesh making it clothing for all the figures, degradation occurs to its appearance as the rigging between figures is quite different. {results vary of course depending upon several factors}
.........
A scene subset would save what's in the scene but not turn all the content therein into figures or props, etc. Not having been made into a proper clothing figure, no it would not be complete for to be able to be autofitted to another figure. If you still have the clothing in the scene subset, you could try saving the clothing item as a support asset, clear the scene, load the next figure and load the clothing and hopefully autofit would then work.
Tone does test renders
Another run of RSSY Cross Gender Clothes Genesis 8, this time to put Gunslinger on Carabelle.
Results were mixed. The pants converted beautifully, the boots a bit wonky but usable. The shirt was weird around the breasts and collar, but possibly workable with more effort than I’m willing to put into a quick test render. The vest was pretty much a lost cause, with serious pokethrough I couldn’t even come close to fixing. Maybe one of those Clothing Fixer products could be helpful here?
In the end I replaced shirt and vest with the beautiful loose shirt from Vernea Fae. This also seems to have some weird issues around the breasts, which hasn’t been there when I’ve tried this shirt on a base G8F, so I’m wondering if this is caused by Carabelle’s morph.
I only have a couple of hair models to choose from, so I put Evelyn Hair textured with UHT2 (one of the very few products I’ve rated 5 out of 5 stars in the database I use to keep track of my purchases) on her head. I made a pose with Build Your Own Standing Poses and put the Carbine Axe from Vampyres Bane in her hand.
Again I lit the scene with BOSS Pro Light Set. It’s really good for setting up quick test renders like this, but I’m not convinced I would use it for anything else.
Finally I put down some props from Vampyres Bane and Triple Moon to make the scene less bare.
Genesis 8 HD — Add-on- Usually HD Add Ons don't have any textures, you have to activate them using a morph slider!
- To really see the difference you also need a high setting SubD!
For 1.: Select your Alawa figure, open the Parameters tab and type Alawa into the search box. You should see sliders with Alawa in their name. Alawa 8 HD Details is the slider you need to use. (I don't have Alawa 8 HD, but it works like this in other characters)
For 2.: Select your Alawa figure, open the Parameters tab and search for Mesh Resolution settings. Depending on your computer you can set "Render SubD Level (Minimum)" to 4

Sorry

This is through Google Translator..
The "smooth morph" figure is the shape variation of Genesis' legs and feet.
Protects from distortion of the costume. And there is a morph in the actor/adjustment.
This is a simple morph (mesh is low poly)The mrb costume (simulation costume) in the lower layer is middle polygon, and a little more
There are delicate morphs ("actor/adjustment").The "smooth morph" figure comprehensively controls the costumes underneath.
All garments must be loaded from the "wearable" item.
These are the ones that I have set in advance.
Material only applies to garments loaded from the "wearable" item (this is a Hierarchy material)
***Cloaks come in several types of morphs.(mrb dress actor/adjustment)

Which model in the OOT Sara Hair hair promo?I think it's Kaylee 8 with an eyebrow swap. The freckles on their noses are similar, and she's listed as an included morph fix.

Celebrity Look-a-Likes for 3D figures Part 2Evanna Lynch (Luna Lovegood), head morph now available: https://www.deviantart.com/tritiumcg/art/Evanna-Lynch-Head-Morph-for-G8F-853059130
As usual done using ZBrush and Blender. I may have made her jaw too small but I was also focused on other angles for the contours (not shown) and sometimes it's just seemingly impossible to match every angle. :/

The maddie head and body morphs appear to go a little way to standing in for Laura head and body morphs - enough to allow a little change trying to apply a Laura morph that requires them.
Which model in the OOT Sara Hair hair promo?Yes, skin looks pretty accurate. Maybe Amira?

The third link I posted is from another vendor, so if it's custom morph, maybe is something simple to achieve?
Celebrity Look-a-Likes for 3D figures Part 2Eros for M4 by StudioArtVartanian is one of two celebrity liknesses I impulse-bought during a sale a few days ago. He's a really good Alexander Skarsgard. Unfortunately a lot of the sculpting got lost during the transition to G8. Perhaps I'm doing something wrong but I find GenX to be a rather blunt tool sometimes...
I tried to dial-spin his face back into shape but I think I might have accidently ended up with a 80% Skarsgard, 20% Gosling...

Not sure how much more work I'll put into this. I have a very handsome character here and that alone makes me happy!
Still, feedback on how I can get a closer likeness is welcome!
How did you manage to transfer an M4 character to G8?! I'm trying to use GenX to transfer a G1 character to G2 to no avail. If you could point me in the right direction, even if you can't give me a step-by-step, I'd be much obliged.
P.S. I read the readme, but whatever problem I'm having seems to have fallen into the cracks.
hi can someone help me with frankenstein monsterPresumably a head shape that is like Karloff's Frankenstein's monster - I think there is, but I can't recall which pack it is in.
There is a Frankenstein head morph for Genesis 1. It's in one of the morph packs from the DAZ store, but can't remember which one.
Is it possible for me to export Animation from Daz to Blender ?I Desperately wish the motion clip system in Blender actually functioned like the motion Clip system in Iclone or even Daz animate 2
If All of a Characters motion (Bone& morph) could be baked into a container then you could delete/ replace that container with a different one(ie retarget new motion) appended from another blend file.
As it stands now, the Blender motion clip system is fairly useless for character work IMHO And I will continue to import my pre-animated Characters from Iclone/CC3 and switch out the textures by appending them from a Carefully named presets master fileWhich model in the OOT Sara Hair hair promo? My guess would be custom character morph using https://www.daz3d.com/sina-hd--smile-hd-expression-for-genesis-8-female skin texture
