  • Not a fan of the new product library layout

For those of us that rely on manual install, so that we can install product packages on machines that are physically and deliberately isolated from the internet, yeah I have absolutely zero interest in Daz Central.  And if manual downloads go away, I'll stop shopping at Daz3D.  It's that simple.

The small laptop that I use to connect to the internet currently does NOT have Daz Studio installed, as it's not well suited for such things, plus my relatively tiny hard drive is pretty much full in any case, so yeah...  I use a USB drive to download product packages to, and then transfer the packages to my Daz machine and install those using the DIM downloads folder on that machine.  Sure, it's not a 100% virus proof method either, but it's a lot harder to infect my Daz machine, which has a lot of stuff on it that I'd rather not lose...  I do backups, but after the last virus fiasco that I experienced, not to mention out of control Windows updates, well here we are...

This method has served me well for close to two years now, and my offline machine is still running like a champ.  I'll do the same with my next build, connecting it to the internet just long enough to get things set up, then isolating it as well.  Call me paranoid, but paranoid works for me.

  • Figure Setup - Just when I thought I knew what I was doing...

    Success!

I went the export-obj-load-with-Morph-Loader-Pro route, since I'm still not sure what I'm doing half the time in Hexagon. Here's a test render, in mid-shooty, with the bolt included. Trigger pulled, spinny thing spunged, drawn string in mid-twang.

Thanks for all the help! I'll get my brain wrapped around this stuff eventually...

  • Daz, zbrush, goz and polygroups

zBrush can apply polygroups and store them if you save it as a tool, but if I then use GoZ again to send model to zBrush it has no polygroups and I can't figure out the way to make it remember those. It remembers the model itself in one session, if you send it, morph whatever, then you change pose in DS and send again zBrush will not create a new one but update the one you sent before so it knows it's the same model in different shape.

  • Daz, zbrush, goz and polygroups

I'm not sure if it's the right place to ask, since it's mostly about zBrush but it's also connected to GoZ and Daz so maybe someone had similar question and knows something. Here it is:

I use GoZ to transfer figures to zBrush, create morphs and transfer back. Very handy. But is it possible to take a model to zBrush, then create polygroups for it there for easier sculpting when hands intersect with breasts, for example, and then somehow save them so that later on when I transfer the same model again there would be polygroups that I set up earlier? Or copy polygroups that I created to a newly transferred model(same model, same geometry, different pose).

  • Holt 8: The West Gone Wild / Weird

Holt 8 had eyebrows listed as 'facial hair' and 10 eyebrow color options. I haven't been able to find them. I suspect those are the missing files that cause it to show in 'Lost and Found'.

Lost and Found has nothing to do with missing files - it's for items that are not otherwise categorised

My Holt 8 character has 99 files in Lost and Found (if I counted them correctly), none that I recognise - e.g. pjcm_holt8_thighfwd_57_l.dsf.  I assume they are supposed to be hidden files?  They appear to be doing no harm, but my Lost and Found is cluttered enough as it is.

That's the name of a technical morph file. No idea why it appears there, "data" files shouldn't be visible.

I have that as well, I opened a ticket about it. In my case I only installed with the Smart Content/Daz Connect.

Right-click on one of the .dsf files in the content pane and select Browse to file location, then take a screen shot showing the full path and attach it to a post or just copy the past and paste it into a post.

I may have missunderstood, but this is what I get when right-clicking one of the files in the Lost and Found tab, I could only right-click on the ones with an actual thumbnail, the others doesn't react at all. Anyhow, this is what I got when doing so.

The character and the material works, it just those strange files in the Lost and Found that has me wondering what is going on and what they are.

  • The Daz to Blender User's Manual

    Hi,

I don't know if anyone's pointed this out, but when you type #clear morph in Blender, it says it's an error, and when I type in simply clear morph, an error doesn't pop up and the character imports, but I'm not actually sure anything is happening with the command. Are you or anyone else running into the same problem?

  • The Mac FAQ

Question about the Mail app: First: It sometimes seems to quit for no reason. Checking the Disk Utility, everything seems fine. Also scanned it for a virus, and scanned in my ~Library folder. Also fine. I have the Mail app on backup drives.

Question: Is it OK to drag the Mail app from a backup drive onto my main HD? Or, are there parts in the System OS that would not transfer, and would/could this result in problems?

  • Transfer a pose from Millenium Cat to Daz House Cat

they are the same but different

if it is a morph inject pose such as Lynes cats you are out of luck

I don't have a clue what a "morph inject pose" is. I just moved the body parts until the desired effect was achieved. I wanted to lay the cat down on a woman's lap. I have 4 different scenes with different models and their cats. Here is one example (detail from the scene).

oh boy you are in for a treat

    http://www.lynescreations.com/lynesfree.htm

sad no good for Housecat but you can use the textures at least enlightened

as for posing body parts, save it as a pose preset and you will have a duf format file you will find in your DAZ library where you saved it

instead of a Poser pz2 file

select and apply that to the housecat

Have you tried that link to Lyne's freebies recently? I was trying to get there earlier this week and got a "Site can't be reached" error message. I read (I think on the HW forums) that Lyne had been seriously ill - I hope that's not the cause.

No I don't remember using Lyne's freebies. But Maybe I have some times back when I started with Daz. I left it on a (virtual) shelf for a while.

At the risk of sounding completely stupid... how do I "select and apply that (a duf file) to the housecat" ?

  • Figure Setup - Just when I thought I knew what I was doing...

After my little adventure in Figure Setup the other week with the Space: 1999 Stun Gun, I thought I'd have a go with a different prop, Age of Armour's old Crossbow model. I'd already converted it to a D|S-format Prop Asset.

It might be a bit elderly by modern standards, but it still looks good (and authentic for the period!), the materials convert to Iray well, and there are useful morphs for drawing the string and raising the little clip that clamps on to the end of the crossbow bolt.

Okay, I went through the Figure Setup procedure and only had to go back to the beginning once. Progress, I suppose. There were already Face Groups set up for the bits I wanted to rig, the trigger and the little round spinny whatsit that holds the string back, so AoA must have had this in mind when he made the original prop. I did it, the bits work, they work properly, success!

...well, nearly. I figured out later that when I clicked the "Create" button in the Figure Setup tab after setting up the bones, the two morphs were stripped out of the mesh.

I now have a prop with morphs and a figure with moving bones. The screenshot shows them, the prop with morphs on top and the figure with bones (you can see the trigger and spinny whatsit in their "firing" positions) on the bottom. Is there something I should have done in creating the figure that would preserve the morphs? Or do I need to export the morphs from the prop then use Morph Loader to put them into the figure? Answers on a postcard to...

    You're on course ;-)

Morphs are not saved when "creating" the rigged figure. Before trying to make morphs for it, "save" the figure!

Then I'd recommend a fresh load of both the newly created figure from the just saved file and also of the original. Do not move either from their location.

Select and apply one morph to 100% on the original. Shoot it over to Hexagon {or export it - whatever you do for making morphs} - in D/S select the new rigged figure, in Hexagon shoot the morphed prop back over the bridge to D/S - make the morph. After checking it [just simple dial in/out] if it's a keeper, zero and save the morph.

Zero morph, delete the prop in Hexagon {click accept whenever returning to Hexagon} in D/S select the original prop {zero out morph 1} and dial in the next morph, send it over the bridge to Hexagon. Repeating the steps of how the first morph was made as often as required.

n.b. if there were any geometry changes then the above will not work. Then one has to make the morphs from scratch.

  • Diffeo Plug-In Question Re: Clothing

There are no morphs relating to the shape of the character though.

Because they are baked in the dbz. But you can import them as custom morphs. Beware that if the body morphs change the figure too much then the bones will not fit anymore, so there's a limit on what you can do. That's why the body morphs are usually baked together with the bones shape. Typical fat and slim morphs work fine as custom morphs.

    1) import a base figure, without morphs applied

    2) import any body morph you like as custom morph

  • Export multiple materials to fbx

I am exporting Daz3D figures to be used in Unity. I can add the hair/clothing to a figure and export it as fbx and import into Unity fine.

But for clothing/hair how can I export mulitple different materials. i.e. red sirt + blue shirt, black hair + blond hair? Do I need to add the hair twice to the model and set the matrial color in each? (then hide/show each model in Unity)

What about exporting multiple figure matrials? i.e. I can export Genesis3 and include the Victoria body/face morphs to be able to morph it from one to the other in Unity, but the matrial woul always be Genesis3. How to export both model materials to the same fbx file?

I can export to 2 different files, but then I would need to add all the clothing/hair to both and would bloat the app. (or can the clothing/hair be exported independently?)
