    This is it for now.

First thing I did was to make character presets of Genesis 9 with the female morph and one with the male. I just drop in whatever one I want to start with. :)

    MikeyFTL said:

Everyone gets more excited about Michael's release than Victoria's. V9 wouldn't sell as much if M9 came out at the same time. Plus it gives PAs more time to develop clothes, poses, expressions etc. for him.

Speaking of poses....what's with those "Base Masculine" poses for G9? There's nothing masculine about them. They're just copies of the feminine poses.

I deleted them off my hard drive ;). Converted a folder full of Shimuzu's G8M poses. MUCH better. LOL

  • Problem with Chill Outfit

I figured out the problem: the outfit doesn't like Frida. https://www.daz3d.com/ry-frida-for-victoria--8 ; It's fine on G8 but as soon as I dial-in Frida it goes wonky.

I used the Winter Trendy outfit insteas, since it had no issues.

My Gallery - Marvelous Designer and DAZ

A fashion staple of many women's wardrobe is the LBD - the Little Black Dress. I have created a very brief overview of creating custom fitted garments like the LBD for Victoria 9 in Marvelous Designer using traditional pattern making technique. It is not a step-by-step guide, but rather an overview. I will be posting more videos that go in-depth into the sloper creating process soon.

YouTube Video Tutorial Overview : LBD for Victora 9

I am finishing up the following videos and will post soon:

    Techniques for Creating Sloper

Draping Garments in Marvelous Designer and Importing into DAZ

Thanks for starting this thread. I'd like to see the LBD on a more contrasting background. Here it seems to blend in, and I can't really see its shape.

  • Genesis 3 and 8 to 9 Pose Converter (Commercial)

Works great - only small adjustment added. Below is a render of Victoria 9 with pose converted from Genesis 8.

I like very much, that the poses are converted directly and does not require to save them first.

Since doing these videos, Marvelous Designer has added puckering and binding tools - be sure to check them out when adding trim around necklines and armholes.

I used FBX and obj exports in earlier videos out of inexpereince.  Thanks all you introduced me to the Alembic Exporter - a better workflow for exporting out of DAZ:

    Sagan Alembic Exporter.

Video 1: Tutorial Overview : LBD for Victoria 9
Video  2: Creating Slopers for DAZ Characters in Marvelous Designer
Video 3:  Posing in DAZ and Draping in Marvelous Designer Workflow
Video 4: Finishing the Sloper: Sleeves
Video 5: From Slopers to Patterns
Video 6: Collarless Casual Shirt Complete Project

Video 8: Prepping meshes for DAZ and Substance Painter
Video 9: Shape Morphs and Scripting the Timeline
Video 10:  Creating Pleats and Ruffs

If you've never used Marvelous Designer before, but are familiar with 2D Vector tools like Illustrator you can probably jump right in with Video 6 and the free trail version and the template starter files in resources if you have V9 or M8.

Link: Free Trial at bottom of page - you'll need to create login

Last off, here is a link to a shared folder that contains the reference images I used in the videos and the M8 and V9 Marvelous Designer Project files.

    Images and MD Project Files

If you've been thinking of checking out the free one month trial of Marvelous Designer, Video 3 is a good video to beging with to show the power of MD and the sloper patterns will get you started.

  • Getting on the 9 train, or not

I'm still missing a simple mouth open / close slider.

The base figure is to small.

    The shoulders look too massive.

The female breasts don't look attractive (because of the unisex mesh?).

    The improved expressions are nice.

Victoria 9 has a pretty face.

In case you are rendering scenes with multiple characters, you need a very powerful machine.

The HD nipples are not as good as G8Fs.

The navel looks unrealistic (both navel and nipples miss topology in the base figure).

Why would you chnage the SubD type? In any event, I am told this is not happening for Daz in the current builds - if it is for you please save a scene showing that, and attach it to a support ticket.

    - Hard to understand how to load a G9 figure. I mean, for example; it is not apparent and easy to find G9 Female figure right ahead.

I'm kind of impressed that he looks less fair with Victoria's skin than his own, even though she's tuned so that she can only be a blond or redhead without looking odd.

I know plenty of brunettes with Vicky's type skin. It's a pop culture misnomer that only blond & rufous people have that skin type. Now it is true that the probability of having that skin type skyrockets if the person is a natural blond or rufous, but even then they are still outnumbered by brunettes with that skin type.

I wouldn't have reckonized that character Serene Night rendered was Mike 8, as the original Mike 8 looks a lot like John Travolta and this character doesn't. I guess that's a testament to people, despite stereo vision, are still better suited to remember things that can be represented on 2 planes rather than the 3 planes needed to accurately notice the details of the 3D shape geometry over the 2D features of skin variations.

That knight's clothing does drape well though.

  • Which Michael is the best ?

It's hard to say as far as functionality goes.  I don't find Michael 8 appealing, Michael 6 is okay (except the eyebrows).  I forgot about Bjorn though and that is a nice texture option.  I never use Michaels on their own anyway, I morph them a lot.  Michael 4 has the best 3rd party assets (star wars).  Michael 7 has nice shoulders.  Michael  textures but I will be utilizing Bjorn more.  As far as the gen 8 males go, Sanjay, Valentino, Holt.  For the gen 7s, it's Kyle, Gianni, Darius, a few of the Dante add ons.  For gen 6, it's Gianni, Lee.  I prefer David 5's textures for the gen 5 models and Michael 4's John Crow.  I have a hard time getting Michael 4 and Victoria 4 for that matter to work with the new updates so I haven't been using them.  It will be interesting to see what they do with Michael 9 though.

Genesis 9 seems like a cash grab right now.  It needs way more time to be filled out with morphs/items.

How will more stuff to buy make it less of a "cash grab"?

We don't even get basic expressions with this gen

the base expressions controls are there, and we know a PoserPose tenmplate is coming which I would expect will give cotnrollers for expressions through that interface

and the poses included are not very good or adaptable for a lot of scenarios.

I agree most of the masculaine poses are not very useful in mnay contexts, but the feminine seem fairly typical.

Auto fit doesn't work nearly as well with older gen stuff, and hair is a nightmare.

I'm not seeing any gross deterioration in AutoFit from most forum discussions, though it still has limits of coruse.

The sudden skew towards androgeny between victoria models has made gigantic leaps down the line from 8 to 8.1 to 9 where she has gone from a statuesque fashion model to pretty girl who works at Starbucks seemingly overnight!  Less surface areas to tweak individually, some crazy bending JCM's (or whatever they're called)

did you have Joint Correctives on? They should be by default but apparently weren't initisll, at least for some users

and just an overall underwhelming release combined with having to pay for stuff they normally just include to get started, have not really made a good impression on me for G9.

I'm not seeing any obvious shortfall in the free content, and in some respects the product spread has been more generous (e.g. not requiring a big bundle to get the Anatomical elements, for those that want them)..

There are things that I like about it though. I do like the strength dials for certain things like facial expressions, and better proportion controls, at least!  I have fun making characters look like they're laughing uncontrollably, or so mad they might break something!

Just not feeling it right now.  I'll see what PA's can do with this gen, but I'm going to wait for quite a bit before I totally sign on.

    Nice chest hair heart

Planning to add variations like varied length and curly hair? Maybe wet and clumped?

It currently has length and thickness but the file sizes are not small, especially for the chest. Adding too many morphs will make the end product massive. Then again, one of Victoria 9's hair styles can be over 600MB to download, so I don't suppose people would have a problem downloading a product that could be well over 1GB.

As far as DAZ Studio is concerned, it doesn't have any problem handling the geometry as long as you're not posing in Iray mode. Then again, this is only the chest and armpits.

    The product looks promising smiley

About the filesizes... In general, if the filesize of almost any product starts nearing the 1GB threshold, it's usually a telltale sign of badly made and/or poorly optimized product - With the exeption of large landscape/architectual products of course.

Well, "badly made" is pretty harsh.

I'm finding that with fiber hairs, the geometry is 10X more for each individual hair. The original REAL Hairy used only one side (like a stick of gum), but had limited shadow and light interaction. Realistically, I could make each hair less smooth when it comes to curvature. However, the Enable Smoothing option in Parameters does absolutely nothing to this kind of geometry so you'd be stuck with jagged hairs. Probably not a big deal if your render isn't a close up.
