  • Daz Studio 4.16[.0.x] Pro, General Release! (*UPDATED*)

The one in ManifestFiles wasn't corrupt, it just wasn't there. I only have one .dsx file so there wasn't anything to compare it with. This is the one that was originally in Downloads and that I moved to my backup directory after the original installation.

That indicates that DIM did not install DAZ Studio; DIM creates the ManifestFiles .dsx when it installs the product.  In a DIM setup the first step is to download DIM which then downloads and installs everything else.  IRC DAZ Central does the same and creates ManifestFiles/*.dsx too, but I don't use it - I only use DIM, no DAZ Central, no DAZ Connect.

You should go to DIM setup and choose "Default Install Sets..." from the menu.  All the entries apart from PostgreSQL should either be in green or marked as optional.  PostgreSQL might be green or yellow depending on whether you have the Release or Beta installed - at present it doesn't matter which you use but only one can be installed at once.  Check for anything else that is missing and not optional; DIM won't see updates to whatever version of these you do not have installed, it will just see them as "new".

When I checked in DIM, Daz Studio 4.15, Inreractive Lessons, Secret Garden Shaded Havens and Daz Studio Iray HDR Environments were red, everything else was green and nothing marked as optional.

I then had aanother thought. I've been using Studio earlier so I checked in task manager and Daz Studio was still running as a backgrounf task. I've seen this before when I can't start Studio again after quiting. So I stopped the process and tried the install again and this time it worked. The only thing it didn't do was update the desktop icon, this still says 4.14 but when I run it I get 4.15.0.30

Try using Install Manager rather than Daz Central. https://www.daz3d.com/get_install_manager/

If you installed the starter essentials through Install Manager or Daz Central then Daz Studio should not try to log in when you open a product, the fact that you do and that you are also having issues logging in at that point suggests some kind of security software issue/conflict. What is your operating system, and what security software are you using?

I am on an iMac running v10.12.6

For security I have Avast Security.

    I also use CleanMyMac

I look forward to your reply.

  • On Mac, DAZ Central Crashing, is the old DIM still available?

So yeah, re-installed DIM last night. Put it on auto-pilot and left it go. It downloaded everything with no problems at all (many, many hundreds of items).

I had been using DAZ Central for the last year and have really liked it. It downloaded and installed as advertised, and has really worked great for me. And I love the DAZ Central interface, as it actually shows you a thumbnail of all of your Products, Actors, Lighting Scenes, etc. Really helps when looking through hundreds of items for just the right solution for an idea. Hope they get it worked out.

Several people have reported issues with Central under Big Sur, but Install Manager is OK.

If you want batch installation use Install manager. Daz Central is a deliberately simplified UI on the same base code and, aside from product packages like Daz Studio, is one item at a time.

Is there an "Install All" or "Batch Install" option anywhere in Daz Central? I can't find that option, or any good filter options, so I already uninstalled that gaudy garbage, but I'm just wondering if the features I was looking for were on some tab or other toggle that I missed.

I mean, I've never seen a lazier content organizer / installer in my life, if that isn't the case.

  • Options for installing Daz Studio

I've been using Studio 4.10 for years without a problem, but bought a new computer and it seems my video card is too new for that version. I would like to upgrade to a later version but I don't have any version after 4.10. I assume my only choice is 4.15?

If so, fine, but here's my question. I've never used install manager or daz central. If I use daz central can I use and only use it to install the program? I want to manually install my files. Will it screw up my runtimes? Is there a way to just install the program without using either install manager or daz central?

Not sure what new content manager you're talking about. If you meant DazCentral you don't have to use it at all, DIM, Connect and manual install all still work.

Yes I meant daz central. If I can install studio without having to use daz central I will try it. I would like to be able to use genesis 8.1 also.

There is also a link at the foot of every product Library page in your account that is for a DIM-installed item.

    Thanks, Richard.

Any thoughts on what's up with DAZ Central?

  • On Mac, DAZ Central Crashing, is the old DIM still available?

    Hey Guys,

Did all the updates to DAZ Studio and DAZ Central, after finally installing Big Sur on my iMac Pro.

Studio seems to be working without any issues. DAZ Central, crashing everytime I try to use it. It starts up fine and looks normal. As soon as I click on anything, it locks up requiring me to do a 'Force Quit' on the app. I tried letting it run it's course last night when it locked up, and it eventually crashed on it's own.

    Any suggestions?

If there isn't a solution, can I go back to the old DIM app? Is it even still avaialble?

    Thx.

@ Choppski:  ...I have photoreal checked and CPU unchecked for Iray rendering.  There is a render mode that uses both the CPU and GPU when both are checked , but it really doesn't offer much in the way of a speed advantage.

OK, cool. THanks. I will uncheck CPU and see what happens. I found it hard to believe an image with a single figure some hair and a couple props would be too much for 8G of vram. What would you need to have 2 characters.

BTW, what is afterburner? On my MSI machine I have dragon central that has a monitor of my system--memory usage, fan speed, temp, cpu etc. Is afterburner another program?

  • Mac Installation

I'm very happy at the prospect of being able to use DAZ Studio on a Mac, rather than just the PC, but I can't get it to install.

It's a pretty new machine with plenty of drive space, so that's not the issue.

I've been trying to install the new version, but it's tripping over something left behind by past failed attempts. DAZ Central gets to about 85%, throws up its hands, and snaps back to 0% and a green "install" button.

What, specifically, do I need to do to remove past failed installs, to give the installer a clean slate and a better chance to succeed?

And what can be done to make the installer less brittle, better able to do better error recovery, and better able to communicate to the user what went wrong rather than just "nope, sorry, no can do"?

No, you can download it without Daz Central - it is just very hidden.

In your product library you should have Daz Studio 4 Pro https://www.daz3d.com/daz-studio-4-pro

And from your product library you can download it.

Sadly, it doesn't have a manual download in my product library. So, I have to use either DIM or DAZ Central.

    Mine are still there;

The general release has stand alone installers, the beta requires one of the install applications Install Manager (apologies, I should have rememberd that Central doesn't do betas) - but Install manager is still there, there is a link at the foot of every Product Library page for a product that can be installed.

I downloaded the update directly from the other content installer app for DS -- DIM (DAZ Install Manager). You don't need Central. (Agree about the marketing on it though. Ugh.)
