Getting on the 9 train, or not
The Victoria 9 vs. the other released figures is right on point. Victoria 9 was a great figure with a great head/face and wonderful skin. Everything since has been pretty generic and honestly, I could not tell you the difference between g8 and g9 except the posing and bends look bad on g9 and that's how I can tell the difference. And I'm sure someone is gonna say "they don't look bad, or we updated this to some new something or another..." The attached pic is from the Stella HD figure's promo images. Feet don't do that. Heck, I13 has a product on Renderosity design to fix the foot bends of V4 so it doesn't do that.
And I don't think that g8's bends and jcm's didn't have issues, they have their own. But I'm not seeing any real fixes for g8's issues, but I do see new issues for g9 that I'm going to have to fix too.
I do see improvements to the eyes, but you can easily turn g9's conforming eyes into a prop for g8 and I've written instructions for that in another thread. I do think the higher rez base mesh is an improvement but neither figure can do HD morphs so it's a minor improvement not a major one.
I just don't see the point in starting over for so little improvements, and new issues. And I say this as someone who has eagerly moved from g1 to g2 to g3 to g8. As others have said, this seems like a cash grab to reset the figure and have us buy stuff again. Which only works as a business plan if you can convince the users to leave and move to the new figure.
The only thing I have been surprised by this time is that many more people still seem to feel this way about g9 3 weeks post launch.

Yeah honestly I think you are absolutely right about your Jay comment, I saw that. You know what it feels like, as though a bunch of poses are just being repurposed and a bunch of things to get in on early. That hardly feels like a great start. I think there could be potential. But when you go from victoria 9 level to the other items being sold, that are of much lower quality. It does feel like this was botched from DAZ for their start to Gen9. Just My TWO CENTS.
I kind of have to agree in part. Other than V9 herself, that first batch of clothing (those medieval dresses) and the morphs, I think it's been kind of "meh". NOT thrilled with what's been coming out for G9 since. I had high hopes at first that the clothing was going to look better, but what's been on offer since has looked (sorry, not trying to be nasty) even worse than what we've gotten in the past. The figure looks more realistic. Sorry, but the clothes and hair is going to have to as well, or it won't matter how good the figure looks. There have been a couple exceptions of course, like the new character from bluejaunte and an outfit from Sprite. But all in all, yeah...just not feelin' it much :'(
+1 to this. The medieval dresses were great! I could feel the weight of the dresses and they reminded me when I used to dress up for the Renaissance faire with the skirt lopped on the belt and stuff (my mom made very realistic costumes). When I look at later stuff, they don't look nearly as good and I'm not interested in lingerie. When I look at the face morph kit, I don't understand it. I think it slides in the uncanny valley on faces, but I've seen some great faces on G9 from you in the other thread so I know there is a lot more potential. It might also just be their style preference so I don't want to knock on it too much. I'm having a lot of fun experimenting with the shapes bundle I bought, but that's because it's new and I never really played with the G8 shapes/morphs so no idea how it compares. The G9 purchases I've made were definitely worth it for me just for this reason. :)
I love new stuff, but G9 did take me by surprise. I've removed all the G8 and G8.1 people off my wishlists for now, but I'm not in a rush to get any G9 people either.
I'm hoping things pick up and get better when Mike makes an appearance ;)

I will be very honest and say while I do see the improvements in Genesis 9 and Victoria 9, I was expecting a lot more. I know some will say, wait, more is coming. I don't know, I think we have reached a threshold between Genesis 8.1 and honestly this shouldn't have been called Genesis 9, it should have been called Genesis 8.2. Also the way that this is presented, with the new morphing system and the way the pose is brand new, seems to me like a money grab rather than a sincere attempt at doing something revolutionary. Like uping the ante. I have models in Gen 8 that I could shade better and pose better than Gen 9 and all the things coming out.
So much of what is in the store now for Gen 9 is so bland and nothing to write home about. I know I am being a Debbie Downer, and that is not my intention I swear. I wanted to love the new Genesis iteration, but it is missing so many things that make me hate that I now have to expand a new library of items that will not be compatible with previous versions "Properly" and the lack of compatibility with Gen 8 at least seems like a very botched attempt at making the previous Gen clients happy. I bought the pose converter and it works great but that is it. So maybe I don't get all the technicalities, maybe Gen 9 bends better, Shades better, lights better, if so on all these, yet I feel we are at a point of diminishing returns in terms of quality. Whoever actually sees this drastic difference and it isn't a negligible difference please explain it to me. I mean Gen 8 from Gen 3 was an exceptional jump in Quality, but Gen 9 from Gen 8 feels like a gimmick....prove me wrong. Please educate me if I am missing something.

Skin Builder is set to mature because it has anatomical elements support in it.
There are a lot of 8 and 8.1 HD people that have "Anatomical Elements" listed, should they all be set to mature?
The search is hiding MSO Peppa HD for Genesis 9, but not hiding MSO Rory HD for Genesis 8.1 Female and both products include "Anatomical Elements". I think it's a shame to exclude any of these characters based on that bullet point because the default is unchecked on this and if I didn't know that this was a bug (at least to me), I would never check that box. It's just not something I would think to do so I would never see results for Mousso G9 characters (if that is what makes the difference in this case).
Edit: Made some corrections after doing more searches.
Edit2: Sorry for so many edits. Did more searches and I wanted to point out that Victoria 9 HD has "Female Anatomical Elements", but is not removed from searches that do not have Show Mature Content checked. This checkbox seems to be inconsitatnt in what it blocks if Anatomical Elements is the key word that blocks items.
Genesis 8 Face & Body MorphsThe Genesis Base figure has an interactive license as well as the morphs. You are not making a unique model if you are using the base and morphs. You are putting it together from licensed products for which you buy interactive licenses to use in games. Your model is unique in as far as the final model will be different to what others may make with these same products. Even if you created morphs to change the model's appearance from scratch, the base would still require the interactive license.
edited to add: As for selling, you can, but you would need to save the model's so that it would require the customer to use the models involved to achieve your creation (the base, the morphs). If you made your morphs from scratch, then it would require the customer to at least need to use the Genesis base involved. If you made a model based on, say, Victoria 8 or 8.1, they would need to have Victoria 8/8.1 as there are morphs that go into making this model that are not contained in the base model alone.

I just need some malle characters with actual anatomical element materials mats. Victoria 9's male skins are nice but when I get the occasional request for a Greek God type render, a freckle faced Scottish boy just won't do.
I am hoping against hope that Mike 9 isn't freckled. Or has vitiligo either, for that matter. Nothing against either one, but I'd like a caucasion, a latino or a lighter skinned black with NO facial or head hair. :P The skins supplied with G9 are very DARK and freckled african skins, latino/east indian skins that are really dark around the eyes, a female asian with what looks like acne and an asian male with facial hair and a caucasian male with short shaved head hair. I don't really NEED to, but I may HAVE to buy at least a few G9 characters just for the skins :P
I bought Vicki because I always buy Vicki and DAZ gave me an erxtra $10.00 off Vicki when they released her so that was an incentive to go ahead and get her.. I bought VYK Sydney, CB Arceli, & MSO Peppa just for their skins (well in Mossou's case, I have to have at lease one of her characters). Will have to wait uutil Zev) updates his Brow Remover to remove the painted eyebrows on VYK Sydney's skin to really use her skin on anything other than a Red Head. I am hoping for a good masculine skin for Michael 9.

Genesis 9I assume you mean ordering the Victoria 9 Intro Bundle, or Victoria 9 (I can't recall if the figure alone qualified) rather than Genesis 9?

Just love this character...
Loving all the dial spins, really showing the versatility you can get with the base and the morph pack.
I'm a bit envious as I haven't had chance to play much recently...

There's a thing I call the Di Vici test, the distance from finger tip to finger tip should be the same as the distance from the top of the head to the bottom of the feet.

Comparing Genesis 8.1 Female, Victoria 8.1, Genesis 9 Female and Victoria 9Comparison 1
Genesis 8.1 Female , Victoria 8.1, Genesis 9 Gemale and Victoria 9 out of the box.
Genesis 81.1 Female and Victoria 8.1 use the Victoria 8.1 skin, which is the same as the Genesis 9 Feminine Skin 01 (even the picture is from Victoria 8.1). This skin is also used for Victoria 9, all have the same skin.
All also wear the Cruise Bikini in white and Voss Hair.
Arms are posed down at 100 %, and legs for Genesis 8.1 and Victoria 8.1 spread at - 8.1 %, i.e. poses are the same as well.
First thing I noticed is that Genesis 9 is small. Victoria 8.1's height is listed as 5' 8" (172.8 cm) which is a good average of a Western European woman.
Genesis 9 is smaller, even the male base. This is wrong in my understanding. I would have expected the unisex base to be as tall as Genesis 8.1 female, and then becoming smaller for women and taller for men.
Comparison 2
Genesis 8.1 Female, Victoria 8.1, Genesis 9 Female and Victoria 9 as in comparison 1, but adjusted to the same height (Victoria 8.1's).
What seems to be wrong is that Genesis 9 Female and Victoria 9 have longer arms. I never heard complaints that Genesis 8.1's or Victoria 8.1's arms are too short.
Also, without HD morphs on any of the characters, the body details of Genesis 8.1 Female and Victoria 8.1 Female are more detailed.
The shoulders of Genesis 9 Female and Victoria 9 Female look to strong, i.e. square, but that is my personal taste.
Comparison 3
For a back to back comparison I have switched the positions of Victoria 8.1 and Genesis 9 Female.
Genesis 8.1 Female and Victoria 8.1 have more of hollow back posture.
The arms of Genesis 9 Female and Victoria 9 are stronger, which is probably more realistic.
The breasts of Genesis 9 Female and Victoria 9 are set a bit lower . And more saggy, probably due to the unisex base.
