Hi all,

New to Daz and, aside from some experience with Sketchup, new to 3d in general. I recently bought a house from the store. If I'd just like to render the inside of one room for now (e.g., the kitchen)...is there a video on this process? Otherwise rendering the entire house will take forever.

Not sure if I should just start deleting the other parts of the house to render that one room, and if I need to do that for each room.

I did also purchase scene optimizer, and learning how to use that (slowly).

If anybody could link a video, blog, or discussion about how to do this, or just provide some general tips, I'd appreciate it. Thanks!

I've had nothing but problems importing Sketchup-generated OBJs into Daz Studio; the meshes and UV mapping look just awful.

This immediately makes me wonder if the exporter and importer simply reckon vertex order differently, i.e. one wants them clockwise and the other counter clockwise. That was the case for Daz versus Alembic, and was easy enough to fix. The OBJ file format is too simple for there to be something genuinely wrong with either the importer or the exporter.

Been experimenting with this product, it's a unique idea and I haven't seen anything like it in the store :)
I have an existing hedge maze (modeled in Sketchup), and I would like some actual leaf geometry on the walls, similar to the courtyard scene in the Promo? What would be the best way to do this? Thank you !~!

Ok let's see. Make 2017 is still available for those that don't want to use the (inferior) Web make. You can export from the web version... So I've been told. Don't know don't care won't use it....

I have several builds of sketchup none are supported by Trimble Warehouse files now

I started with Sketchup for modelling back in 2009 but sadly Trimble has made it impossible to have an executable on your desktop unless willing to buy the pro version and I find the web browser free version too difficult to use, I cannot seem to export any sort of file I can use in another program from it and nothing I have opens the available skp versions, well Twinmotion does but that doesn't export, I cannot even find a Blender python addon that will.

Seems they want to sell the pro version which is why I am unsurprised work on this plugin gone MIA.

Once you get the hang of it Sketchup is a fantastic piece of software for making sets.  I import the .obj and then fix up the material manually.  The important thing is to make sure the materials are well named in Sketchup, also that the geometry is "clean" in sketchup to avoid artefacts in iRay.

Agreed. I am a HUGE fane of the original series when I was a kid, so I was thilled when a remake came out, but it took a few episodes for me to get into it since it had a different feel/vibe and after the firs 2 sasons, i stopped watching.

As for models, there are a ton of ships out there, many free. Check the sketchup warehouse for nearly every ship from the series.

I'm after something like a cruise liner, e.g. Titanic.

Strctly the Titanic and other classic liners were not cruise ships - they sacrificed some carrying capacity for speed as they were the main, or only, way of crossing the oceans. Cruise ships tend to be blockier as theya re built to carry as many people as possible, at the expense of some speed. I should think the Sketchup place has quite a few ships of both types.

I played as kid self on such an attic. (I just use the room basic, removed all items and fill it with my Lib content).

Another idea, render the images in D/S to a clear .png background and then layer them to whatever images you're rendering in Sketchup, in an image editor such as G.I.M.P. or PaintShopPro or Photoshop or ? works with layers.

 

Problem is I need several different poses and used within an animation for a game show, so that will not work, I'll head over to the Poser site and see if there is a bodysuit I can use.

btw - if you have Sketchup you can export out those models as .obj files and import them into Daz Studio ;-)

Depending upon how they are made they may or not require some more modeling work but then we have Hexagon [free now too].

I need help with a product i bought, tried to contact the author to no avail so maybe someone can help me here.

The G-suit in DAZ looks fine but when I export it and open in Sketchup the face, hands and feet are all covered by the suit unlike the way it is in Daz, what gives?

How about this Corvair pickup! Sketchup conversion.

So the paradigm in Daz seems to be "here's a cube of side length X, now scale it".  Is there a tool or script that will allow me to make cuboids any size I like, in cm or inches, on any side?  This seems a bit limited.  As a follow up, Sketchup has a nice "move" feature whereby you can choose a vertex on the source, a corner say, and then click a destination vertex and it'll snap the model to it.  Is there anything similar on Daz, or a tool to help with it?  This one tripped me up when trying to make a modular building some time ago.

Use case:  I'm trying to make "thick glass" panes fit into holes where windows should be and it's a... pain.

Chrome on my laptop is not working correctly for me. I am thinking of reinstalling it to see if that helps.

I am looking at YouTube videos for free or open source 3D software.  One video suggested Daz Studio.  Actually in that video they recommended 5 softwares.  First one was Blender.  The second was Sculptris.  The third was Daz Studio.  The fourth was Wings3D and the fifth was sketchup (free version).  I probably would work with all but scultris but I am thinking of trying sketchup.

No, I was modelling outside of Daz in SketchUp.  Exporting that is a soup when it arrives inside Daz.  That's why my glass wasn't rendering correctly.  I'll do the thing with boxes.
