What's wrong with spiders? I've always liked them, Snakes & bats, too. Growing up, I couldn't figure out why the Addams family's neighbors thought they were strange, either, so maybe it's just me.

I don't see anything wrong with spiders. Just find them creepy. :) But while spiders are creepy, centipedes would be terrifying. To me anyway. (I actually do kind of like the looks of the scorpion, though. And harvestmen look quite elegant in my view as well. Millipedes are fine, too.)

I generally leave spiders alone. The very small ones anyway (like the jumping spiders). And thank goodness there are very, very rarely any large ones where I live. If any entered my house, sorry, I'd either squish them or ask them to get out. :-) You never know what their bite might do -- and I'm not wagering I'll enjoy the same gifts as Peter Parker.

I fully acknowledge that creepy crawlies are a part of Nature. All I ask is that they stay away!

chicken walking ... I'm looking at this month, and not encounter anywhere motions for chickens poser / daz.
    I look motions that party that the hen does lay an egg after;
    chicken giving a flock etc.
Here's a poser chicken for sale, says the description contains a walk cycle, probably in poser format, but it should work in daz studio also:
    http://contentparadise.com/productDetails.aspx?id=130

That chicken at Content Paradise was 3.99 so I went ahead and bought it. It does have walking cycle, not a great one, but still had one.
Thank you so much for the link.

Turned out I had put a scorpion in my wishlist years ago so for 5.99 I got myself a scorpion with a walk cycle as well.

Only the Daz Originals are that 65%, there's the link to make it easier. Found out in the member's forum, Daz never answered. Keep posting the tips- thanks! If I get time I'll go through the PA stores and see what I can find too.

I still recommend Noggins- they do not go on sale very often. I am getting cockatiels, macaws, cockatoos, etc- and check out the scorpion- it has REALLY cool textures, including an armored one for sci fi renders. Check the thumbnails.

  • More Cybernetic Creatures

Some of the most amazing must-haves I've found have been cybernetic versions of animals:

    http://www.daz3d.com/mosquito-2
    http://www.daz3d.com/robowasp
    http://www.daz3d.com/robospider
    http://www.daz3d.com/arachnoid-and-infiltrator-bundle
    http://www.daz3d.com/war-eagle

Is anyone planning to create some more? There's a whole wealth of things out there which would be fantastic to see in robotic form: Shark, praying mantis, scorpion, crocodile, wolf, squid, stag beetles, octopi, panther, dragon, lobster... And with the Genesis Bot, if something's created for the Genesis figure, that should simply be able to auto-convert it into a cybernetic version.

Always good to see optional mounted weapons for them, too, so that they can give the appearance of espionage vehicles, transports or patrol units.

Alternatively, this was an interesting idea:

    http://www.daz3d.com/roborex-for-the-t-rex

Is anyone planning to do something similar for the existing creatures for Daz? Creating cybernetic skins to give the illusion of them being robotic?

Or if anyone's searching for inspiration, the old UK 1980s Marvel 'Zoids' comic (have been told there was a Japanese interpretation, but it seems completely different) has a wealth of robotic animal-related designs:

New additions are at the end of each prop's listing.
Some results are by category. (Food and Kitchen are TWO separate areas) If an item is fairly unique (shotgun shells) it will be listed by itself. I don't list EVERYTHING in a category, there's enough to give you a good selection.

As for Quetzalcoatl... I actually LOVE Aztec stuff (its a little known fact) I did an Aztec set ages ago, and got hardcore into the culture then... but it tanked, and hard... in terms of, it was prolly my worst selling set ever. I don't think that genre does very well in general. Ive toyed with the idea of doing another (esp since that one, had a weird combo of second skins and props - it was before I actually did clothing) But I just dont know if theres enuff interest there (or enuff supporting products for it to be strong)

Aw, bummer! I didn't even know you'd done an Aztec set. :(

No criticism meant of your Scorpion God promos, anyway. I eagerly awaited that set, and bought it as soon as I could once it was released, as you may remember. :) And I knew it didn't come with a mummy character. But somehow in the back of my mind I just kept expecting it to be there based on the promo. Take it as a compliment to your amazing visual skilz. They made my brain keep seeing what wasn't there!

As for other possible male deities... can I interest you in some Chinese war gods? ;) The Heavenly King of the South, perhaps? Or Houyi, God of Archery?

Yeah, but its pretty aged at this point. It was done something like 8 yrs ago.... for V3 lol I never revisited it, coz it just didn't do well enuff. But maybe one of these days, Ill get brave lol

And no worries, none taken :) I was actually initially worried some may think the mummy was included, and that some may have even wanted it (and I had worries telling them it wasn't there may have been a deal breaker too) I guess when ur a vendor, u think about every possible scenario. I also know that my stuff isn't going to cater to everyone's taste anyway. I have a very masculine/sometimes morbid and gritty kind of style (probably why everyone thinks Im a guy LOL)

As far as Chinese goes.... eh, its not really my forte. Ive never done anything Chinese, so I dunno if I even could lol But Steampunk wasn't my forte either, til I did Eden's Flame... so you never know, I guess lol

Also, you said "The fact that something sells like mad doesn't mean that it's not sexualized."
And yeah, what I meant was... the reason we see so many sexualized things, is coz it sells like mad. Its not always the case, but Id say 8 times out of 10, it is. Vendors make what sells. This is also the reason for the lack of male stuff. I know there's a portion of the userbase that cries out for more male stuff. But whenever we tend to do it, it tanks (Not always the case, but again, 8 times out of 10) Take myself for example. I actually love making male armor... it fits me better than anything, and Id do it all the time. But sadly, love doesn't pay my bills.

And that's why I think PA's really need to evaluate what exactly sells for them and what doesn't. If Godspeed sold phenomenally while Scorpion God flopped, then focus on more items like Godspeed. I do think part of Scorpion God's flaw was simply the way it was executed in the promos, as even vwrangler pointed out. Godspeed WAS very pretty and breath-taking for me while Scorpion God made me raise my eyebrows. It wasn't until I dug further in the promos was when I saw that, not only did it look interesting on a human male, but looked so much better in the pose demos with the scorpion tail turned off.

Its all well and fine to dissect the promos on my product. But you forget one small little detail - Im not the only one that has said their male stuff tanked. In fact, many Vendors here have said that very thing.... including some very heavy hitting top PA's

Male items have always performed better for me than female items have. This is for a few reasons. One is that I don't care for doing girly items and tend not to do the same job on them, whereas I love doing male and androgynous outfits, so my heart and soul is in the work.

I submit that this is probably the reason for several male items selling poorly as well - I've seen artists that are incredibly talented when doing bikini armor turn in lazy work on male stuff that was clearly inferior to their female content. I am NOT saying this is always the case - many PAs have never done a bad product for either sex. I'm guessing they're not the ones who've had an item tank "because it was male," though.

Presentation is very much in fact a huge key in making a product sell well. It's like I said when I pointed out H5's Night Out Suit. If you were to look at the promos for the actual Night Out Suit product page, it doesn't look very tantalizing by itself, but then you look at it in the way it was featured in the Capsces Poses Hiro 5 page with the impact from the texture coloring and how it's pose is presented, it becomes much more compelling and romantic.

When take that tactic and combine it with something that's actually quite suggestive, you get a pretty irresistible picture, literally! Most of the skimpware I actually have in my Runtime look good enough out of the box as is. Hell, one time I was scene building with a male friend over, he takes one look at my view pane the second I load the outfit unto my character and says "Damn! That's hot!" I turn to him with a look of amazement and say "Are you kidding me? I haven't even lit and posed her in it yet!"

If its about sexy, then explain that one lol They are both sexy in the same exact way - bared chest, little skirt, headgear, weapon, poses, etc (only difference being one is Greek, and the other Egyptian)

One could say... well, Greek does better than Egyptian. And to that Id say orly??? Coz Serpent Goddess kicked major butt.... as well as Queen of the Nile (I have given this a ton of thought, can you tell? lol)

Well ... it could also be that the main promo for Scorpion God is a mummy/zombie, whereas the main promo for Godspeed is a muscular, handsome man. (Also, Scorpion God has that massive scorpion tail coming out of the crotch, which might be a shade ... offputting.) Similarly, the main promos for Serpent Goddess/Queen of the Nile feature a beautiful woman with substantial tracts of bare skin. The differences in presentation alone might might account for that. Scorpion God is spectacular, don't get me wrong ... the promos don't make it look "pretty". Godspeed is spectacular and pretty.

I'd love to buy them both myself. (Assuming that tail on Scorpion God can be hidden or relocated or something.) One reason I didn't get either of them is because I use Genesis and not M4. I do have Cobalt Hierophant -- not yours, I know -- and I converted that with both Autofit and with WeightMap/Transfer Utility, and the results were strikingly horrible. There are enough similarities in structure that I figured that neither Godspeed or Scorpion God would take transfer well, so I left them alone. (That and they're mostly out of genre for me. But frankly, if Godspeed were a Genesis outfit, I flat out wouldn't care. It's gorgeous.)

Oh and one more thing.... DAZ is very open-minded when it comes to stuff... they are the most open minded religious types Ive ever known. Saying they're "conservatively" against anything remotely homosexual as far as products are concerned and refuse stuff based on that is really not the case lol Obviously, they don't want anything obtusely sexualized (as they do cater to many age groups) but that goes for either gender.

With the exception of that last sentence (we'll get to that), I wouldn't disagree with you necessarily. At the moment, I suspect it's in part a vicious cycle. People don't see the items here, so they assume they're not welcome, because they don't see those items here. And the music goes round and round and it comes out here. So to speak.

And as far as not wanting anything obviously "sexualized" goes ... seriously, you're telling me that all those female barbarian/mage/warrior/whatever outfits that consist of breast cups and a panty/thong/whatever cut so low that no real adult woman could wear them without exposing herself are not obviously sexualized? Really? REALLY? Have you seen Martian Princess or War Vixen?

Well ty for the compliments :) And yeah, it definitely could be part of it.

As far as conversions go, Godspeed would convert far better than Scorpy God (mostly due to the loin cloth on SG) But you would lose the articulation of the wings, which would be a huge deficit IMO. Ill eventually probably do a Genesis conversion on it... its on my list of things to do. Also, yeah, you can hide all the scorpions on Scorpy god, and the loin piece is optional.

As far as the examples you gave... I dont consider that obtusely sexual, actually lol It could be Im numbed to this, but for me, obtusely sexual would be what you can do with Serpent Goddess' bra (turn the cups off completely) or chaps without pants underneath, for example. Though, if it were up to me, I may have asked for a diff promo on the martian princess, coz the angle is a bit.. ahem... lol but still, her nibbly bits are covered, nevertheless. But all these items are within the confines of how society designs barbarian type women these days. Video Games, Movies, etc.... theyre all based on scant designs. Look at Red Sonja... and that was back in the 80s. People might not dig it, but it does sell like mad.

I should note that my best selling male outfits are not just fully covering, they are RIGIDLY fully covering - specifically, armors. The Celestial Armor is the best selling brokered outfit I have ever had, except for the Body Tank.

And my best selling outfit, period, is the Body Tank, which is possibly the MOST covering item in the DAZ store... http://www.daz3d.com/stellar-league-body-tank

And if I may further interject,

Godspeed did phenomenally. No question about that. I was full speed ahead to do more male stuff afterwards... til, Scorpion God released. While it wasnt my worst release evar, it wasn't good either.... in fact, it didnt even hit my average.

No one can really accurately predict the market. But the way it has always been, is that male stuff sells far less. I could speculate all day as to why (giving most credence to women buy female stuff to idealize them, whereas men for obvious sexuality reasons... whereas to the converse, hetero men arent interested in idealizing their own gender the way women do, the gay portion of the community may sexualize them and women don't entirely buy into sex, alone) But even that would be merely speculation.

@Kattey, I'm the wrong one to try to answer your question about the rules of male skimpwear for a whole host of reasons, but I'm going to try anyway. ;) Generalizing from what makes female skimpwear work, I think it's a combination of emphasizing the differences between the genders and drawing the eye toward the genitals. So for female garb, emphasizing breasts, narrow waists, wider hips, etc., whereas for guys it would be emphasizing broad shoulders, areas of heavy muscle development (e.g. abs, biceps), narrow hips, etc.

Also, anything that shows what is usually hidden, or better yet, partially shows or teases at showing. "Usually" is the operative word here, so every generation has to try to find some new boundary to push against, whether it's sagging pants, mesh shirts, holes in jeans, or whatever. (In Japan, evidently the nape of a woman's neck is considered highly erotic. Go figure.) What's "usually hidden" on guys is a smaller area than for gals, but I think that's part of what makes some asymmetrical outfits interesting-- e.g. one shoulder is showing, the other fully clothed, so that sets and breaks an expectation at the same time.

I was going to mention Iggy's Godspeed as probably a good example of recent male skimpwear ;) even though it's somewhat historical. It's not like there's any more of the male body showing than would be with a pair of boxers, but the skirt offers the possibility that a "usually hidden" area will be revealed (especially on a guy who flies around), the sandals cover more skin than usual but have gaps, and similarly, the straps across the chest draw attention to the fact that it's mostly bare.

I'm not sure if the fact that the face, which is usually visible, is masked in this outfit is also part of the appeal... possibly. Likely covering that which is usually bare draws attention to that which is shown.

    Does that make sense?

I'd totally agree with that. I think that's part of what sold it on the sexual scale. Also, Greek culture is always interesting. I know Egyptian culture is big, too, which is why at first it surprised me hear that Scorpion God didn't sell as well. Then I realized something that I've never noticed before while looking at both of them, trying to figure out why... Godspeed isn't nearly as overly exaggerated as Scorpion God. Scorpion God has an awkward headdress and loincloth. Then I looked as Serpent Goddess and saw that, she too, had a relatively simpler design than her male counterpart. So basically, a common pattern that seems to sell well is detail that's reasonably close to the character's being itself and not too distracting from the physique.

RCDeschene, do I understand it correctly that at your opinion the female skimpwear can be as impractical and as objectifying as possible (if we speak about how far we can go) but male skimwear has to be somewhat practical even in this case? Because in all your examples male skimpwear has a practical set of pants, while same Elf Witch 'sexy' outfit shows half-cut miniskirt instead of such.

I'll clarify again: my questions aren't about what how practical clothes could become sexually alluring through attitude, pose, shaders and such. Not about how to mix and match things, not about versatility. But how would you design a male skimpwear that does _nothing else_ but sexually objectifying male model in the same way as female skimpwear sexually objectifies female models currently (see today release of Elf Witch as an example of such outfit)

Not at all. I don't believe most of the stuff I showed you were is all that practical in the slightest. Men don't NEED pants that gives the eyes the idea of their leg muscles and crotch sizes, but it does gives those features the objectifying attention. Men don't wear skirts unless it's barbarian fantasy or historical. IngusSerpantus mentioned that although her Scorpion God didn't sell well, here Godspeed was a significant success.

Not only that, but like most things that seen to work in genderism, there's a bit of a dualism to sexual appeal in fashion. You're right, Elf Witch does have a mini skirt, A LOT of female clothing here has miniskirts, why? Because women's legs are a huge sex gimmick. It makes you move your eyes upward towards the pelvis. For men, it's the opposite. The more chest that tantalizes it's way down to the belt buckle, the better. Like I pointed out in my previous post, look at pieces like Nagase Hiro and the character I present from Rendo.

But the sad fact of the matter is... even with all the posts in this forum of ppl wanting male stuff, Scorpy God did not do that well at all. It wasnt awful, but.... it wasnt amazing either... it didnt even hit my personal goal for sets I do of that caliber (which, to be clear, is a min I have to make to recuperate the time spent) And the female counterpart (Serpent Goddess) did well too, so it wasn't exactly the genre that tanked. My first male set (Godspeed) however, was a rousing success, so I figured, hey, Ill support M4 more often. But after Scorpy God, I'm now not so sure.

It just goes to show that the requests in this forum are, sadly, a vocal minority. Once again, I defer to my previous statement.... if u guys want support for something, u gotta buy it. Vendors go where the $$ is. And if we spend a month or two making a set that flops, we are not likely to spend that kind of time on something similar in the future.

Like the others who stated there reasons for not buying scorpion God, I too had no use for it. Remember that the other thing that people here ask to see more of, aside from male stuff and kids, is EVERYDAY CLOTHING, clothing that is practical and relating to real people. Almost all the male stuff I see here, and hell, even at Rendo is usually a bit to stylized for my taste. Hell, I'd even take man-slutware if it was made available to me. This is what I LOVED about David 5's Pro Bundle.

This is why Genesis 2 should have stayed unisex. Genesis has some nice outfits that can go either way, hell even if it was built for a specific gender, there were some articles that looked really great on the opposite. THOSE are the items I buy.

Though, IgnisSerpentus's info of his sales has got me thinking... I have to ask you PA's, out of all the male wear that you do make, which actually sells relatively better? Is it everyday clothing? Specific genre's? Textures? Because if there are some gems in that pile, maybe it would be best to focus of that particular aspect when you make male items. See what that does.

Well, I will say straight up... I will never do everyday clothing. Im totally fantasy geared. To me, that would take all the fun right out of this. I will probably also never do kiddie stuff, either and rarely do things that are frufru or otherwise construed as cute (I feel like Im faking something lol) As anyone can see by my store, Im mainly armor-focused. I also do mostly darker stuff (and when not dark per se, its gritty) When u think of my stuffs, u should think... Erotic, exotic and a little psychotic LOL

As far as male stats go, couldnt say to any degree.... other than the two packs I have (and already did kind of give those stats)

But I can say... sex sells. Better than anything else, hence why there is such a preponderance of it. Though, I spose there are always exceptions.

And btw... lol Im a chick.

First of all, "Erotic, exotic and a little psychotic" should totally be your business motto! :D

And absolutely! That's what I keep trying to tell everyone. 3D, like most computer/tech realms is a man's world. Women have a significant contribution to 3D art, yes. but hearing how Victoria and all her slutwear sells more than anything only proves that point. But I'm also willing to believe that if there is a pattern for what makes girls sell, there must be one for guys as well. After all, as much as guys love to fantasize about sexy chicks, they also love to stroke their own masculine egos, too. ; )

But seriously, this will probably make some eyes roll, but I say someone should seriously start making some ego-inducing stuff for the guys and man-slutware to entice the ladies... : )

lol it kind of is. I have it on my fb page, tho I don't really advertise it that way. But it definitely fits.

And well, I dunno that Id go as far as to saying its a man's world per se. The funny thing is, there are plenty of female users.... but they all like and use stuff for the women too. Take me for example... I have a preponderance of female items in my runtime.... but I don't have a ton of male stuff. A few key items, thats pretty much it. Ive even rendered promos on default M4 lol And that even goes for my content.... Ive not largely focused on male things til more recently (coz my stuff tends to be armor, it does fit well there, and I do like working with M4)

On one hand, it could be a sort of a sexualization for straight males, but for women, its all about empowering women or otherwise living in fantasy worlds vicariously thru their art. So either way you slice it, female stuff is largely favored.

There is, however, also a large userbase of gay males in the community as well. These are the ones that buy a lot of the male stuff.... but it has to be bordering on erotic, I think, or at the very least construed as sexy (though, again, Im sure exceptions exist) Take Godspeed... Ive had conversations before that perhaps one reason it did well, is that Greek is sort of iconic to gays - because it was largely acceptable in Greece and the society was what introduced homosexuality most prominently in history (like Alexander the Great, for example) whereas Egyptian, which is the theme of Scorpy God, not so much. They were more incestual than homesexual per se, though there are some stories ... but for the most part, I think it was taboo (yeah, Im a history nerd... can you tell? lol)

So theres a lot of factors at play here. But again, its really only speculation. You'd really have to poll the community, and ask probing questions to get a better detailed look as to why people buy what. And well, that would be an invasion of privacy, I think, in some cases. So all we really have to go on is pure speculation.

Well, of course women buy Victoria as well. Let's face it, Victoria is the 3D Barbie for adults. And of course there's the gay male community. But just exactly how much of male content out there can we really call "man-slutware". Most of the guy stuff I've seen here is either fantasy or historical. It's nowhere near as ego stroking for guys or hormone enticing for women and homosexual men as much as all the female stuff here does for female idealism and hetero male lust.
