Need to inform you of a problem with your 4.16
Hi Richard: Okay first off yes my products are visible in my smart content. Most of my products have Uninstall showing that that means they are there and in my inventory. To go into my products I press explore and that will take me to my items, but in a LOT of cases I have a Triangle sign with an exclamaction sign. I was told, that to work around this or whenever this happens one has to go into DAZ Central and install the particular item there. Once this is done, I go back to my original item and refresh, then the content and pictures appear. I have NEVER had this problem before with DS especially 4.15. I was always able to do renders. But now all I get is this message, no matter what product I want to merge into my scenes. Do I have to now pay a membership fee to use DS or what. This is frustrating because I am NOT a technician, I am NOT code literate and I have zero idea what to look for - where the problem is NOR how to fix it. This is why I submitted a ticket, but I honestly doubt that DAZ will be able to fix this for me. I am SUPER desparate to fix this problem but I zero idea how to do this
Daz Central keeps crashing.I keep getting the beachball of doom when using Daz Central. It freezes up, and will not unfreeze no matter how long I leave it. It happens most of the time. Which makes it hard to download my recent purchases.
Sometimes it will work fine for a while, and I can dl a few items. But then it freezes continuosly. I tried to switch from the initial screen to the content library screen, but that seems to be worse. Most of the time, it seems to freeze almost immediately. Or just after I click on "download."
I have tried closing all other windows first, before opening DC, but that might work somewhat better. But not always.
What can I do?
Should I manually install my items? Or is there another way to do this? And how do I manually dl?
Can someone please recommend a searchable by keyword database for Daz assets?I am fairly new to Daz, but I already have 4,000+ freebie items and (now I'm starting to get the hang of what I'm doing, and understanding what I need) an increasing number of paid-for items. I avoid Daz Central like the plague - here's how I'm approaching the problem instead.
I do all my searching in the directory which holds my archives, using File Explorer. The directory structure is logical (to me) and filenames follow a pattern 'description characters (authorname) tags', e.g., "jupe flamenco dress g8f (guy91600) daz.zip". The description is usually based on the author's own title for the product, but I augment it if the original is obtuse, inaccurate, misleading or non-english. In hindsight I could have treated the authorname and list of characters (g3m, g8f, g81f, v4, m4, etc) the same as normal tags. I use the tool from advancedrenamer.com to automate most of the renaming process. This tool can process batches of files, to perform operations such as trimming filenames, standardising case, removing punctuation which may complicate file searches (underscores, etc), adding or removing tags, and much more.
The tags don't automatically appear in My Library or My Poser Library, of course, but I also manage those directories manually, and so far I've never had any difficulty finding an asset whose archive-name suggests it may be of interest.
In the case of the OP's 'bottle of wine' example, a successful search would depend upon the user having added the appropriate keywords when filing the archive. It would not matter whether it had been filed under 'eateries', 'dating', 'france' or '1980s' - if the tag 'wine' had been added, the archived file will be found by File Explorer. There is no need to build a dedicated database, IMO.
Can someone please recommend a searchable by keyword database for Daz assets? That's interesting. If the slowdowns are primarily caused by having too many characters installed, for the reasons that you say, then that would simply matters. Searching through uninstalled characters via Daz Central is easy, and if this means I can keep the bulk of my other assets installed then the search options in Smart Content work a treat. Is this a definite, or just as you "understand it"? If anyone else could confirm I would be grateful!

Yes, the file search of Smart Content works great.....for those assets I have installed. I thought I'd read here in forums, however, that irrespective of how much hard disc space one has, it can get to the point that too many assets installed will dramatically slow down the system. Is that not the case? As a result I often uninstall assets I think I'm not going to use for a good while. I can then still search for them in Daz Central, but not file search of Smart Content. Unfortunately Daz Central won't pick up the assets within the asset. Do others keep ALL of their assets installed?
Yes, having too many assets installed will result in major slowdowns when you add a character (as I understand it, the issue is with the morphs; when DAZ loads a character, it has to load all the morphs for that character family). So uninstalling them is important if you want to keep DAZ Studio responsive.
I wish that DAZ software offered some kind of unified tagging/categorization system. DAZ Install Manager already supports search but not, as far as I know, the way to add your own keywords to content. I'd love to be able to group my content into categories by tagging it -- 'genesis-8-favorites' or 'old-stuff-do-not-install' or 'genesis-8-additional-females' would all be useful -- and then manage my installs that way. And having Install Manager categorizations carry over into DAZ Studio itself might be handy too.
Lag when posingcridgit said:
I have the same problem, which also appears when I reset the firgure pose or load a pose present either from the Content Library or from disk via File Merge. It has been getting worse on Genesis 8 in recent months due to the number of morph packs I have. The lag was even worse with fitted prop jewellery such as earrings or bangles etc. Was wondering if it may have to do with the Undo stack, but I can't find an option to disable it.
Since upgrading from 4.15 to 4.16 the lag increased by 5-10x and even so bad now I quite literally cannot use 4.16 to pose Genesis 8 (Studio just hangs). I still don't have a solution from DAZ tech support and I can't downgrade to 4.15 because stupid me didn't make a copy of the installer.
Please let me know if you find the root cause and I'll do so too.
I still have the installer for 4.15 but it's acting just like how it is with 4.16 and I tried 4.14 beta and it's still doing that.
I can't get any work done because I'm not able to do anything, I try to move the neck and it gets stuck. I can move props, and non-human stuff just fine.
It's when I try to pose any of the human people like Genesis 8 etc it gets stuck and won't barely move. I tried everything and I can't fix it. So I'm going to probably stop
using it and buying content altogether...As much as I enjoy making stuff sometimes, this lag stuff shouldn't be a problem..I tried 4.12 but it won't work with my 3060and then I get forced to upgrade to 4.16 if I try to use the central thing to install. I couldn't figure out if it was a driver issue or just daz itself. I done uninstalled and reinstalled more than enough and nothing worked. I don't know what to do anymore. I did think about fully restoring my machine back to factory state to see if that would do something but even so, I hate having to do this because then I have to reinstall all my apps again.

The City Centre is well within 100 miles from you but I don't blame you for rather wanting to order online and have the card delivered delivered to you like you did. The nearest Best Buy to me actually winds up being about 72.5 miles or an 1 1/2 drive. That is definately not something I'm going to plan on wasting time and quite a big money too actually with gas at $3.00 a gallon just since January unless I get a chance to participate in an In-Store Only event where they hand out tickets and limit purchases before the store even opens.
....actually I live about 10 blocks north of the central the downtown area. All we have there is a small Office Max.. Big box stores tend to be located in the outer burbs as land is cheaper and there's more space for big car parks. As I don't drive the "in store" events are very tough to get to in order to get a good spot in line.
We actually had an Office Depot two miles from me but it was held afloat it's entire existance by local/state/federal government purchases and when the bans of working in government offices came, Office Depot had to quickly bankrupt the store. Even worse is that the local Social Security Administration offices haven't opened in almost two years and I know darn well there are a huge amount of people with no internet (and often no private phone serive either and many are deaf, partly deaf, aged and weekened, or have other disabilities that make anything but a personal one-on-one meeting at local offices a huge problem for them!) and that calling the SSA, as the SSA requires now, results in the majority of calls being put on hold while the caller waits an interminate time for an SSA staff that refuses to do their jobs but gets paid better than ever for their derilection of duty.
Can someone please recommend a searchable by keyword database for Daz assets?Like many, I'm sure, I now have literally thousands of pounds worth of Daz Studio assets. Keeping track of them is a nightmare. None of the pre-existing options are 100% ideal. I do like Daz Central but the search facility, although the best I've found so far, is still very limited. Often one knows that one has a specific asset somewhere like, say, a wine bottle, and it's probably in a kitchen or dining room or restaurant, but one can't find it by searching for 'wine' or 'bottle.' So I've been thinking of going through my assets slowly one by one and listing all the individual assets by keywords in a searchable database, so that if I then do a search for 'wine' or whatever, the system will then list all my assets which include something relating to wine in the asset/bundle, and I can then go straight to the asset that includes it.
I can't see any other way of keeping track of specific individual assets. I'm sure others have been doing this. Could anyone please recommend a database program searchable by keyword which might be suitable for this. I've looked far and wide and it's not immediately obvious. Thanks!

DAZ3D Installation PathI'm not sure what you mean - Daz Central does allow the user to set a single base folder and then places everything in sub-folders of that.

I always thought that Wisconson was a good place to be from. And like where I am, in the outback of western NY State, a good place to retire to for a quiet life. But skipping 40 or 50 years in the middle, anywhere else, is very interesting, exciting and educational.

...Wisconsin was a much nicer place decades ago before all the industry packed up and moved out and cratered the economic base like happened to a number of "Rust Belt" cities.. Several years ago I was finding nice homes in my old neighbourhood on the south side for around 90k$- 110$K If they were here in Portland, you wouldn't 'be able to touch any them for under 400$K - 500$K..One that caught my eye (even delivered newspapers there when I was a lad) had 4 bedrooms full finished cellar 2 baths and a garage which listed for 98$K (yeah, that's how depressed the economy has been in the state's largest city until recently), and this was in a nice old quiet working class neighbourhood..
Steven's Point in the north central part of the state was "tundra country" in winter but had nice summers Really got to like the slower pace of small town life Could bike or walk pretty much everywhere I needed to go. Living costs were good With the college there had decent entertainment, particularly in the classical music realm. The downside jobs,. Save for Sentry Insurance (headquartered there) and the college, there wasn't much else than the typical restaurant/pub/retail scene.. If i weren't for the winters and a certain other "climate" I won't go into here, it would be a nice town to retire to. My SS income would definitely go further there than in here Portland.
Still possible to install DAZ Install?I installed DAZ on a new computer, and would like if possible to use DAZ install rather than DAZ Central to install my products. However, DAZ install doesn't seem available for download. Is therfe a way to get it? Thanks in advance.

Daz install manager with Windows 11To keep it short, new PC with Windows 11 Pro. Daz Install Manager crashes every time I attempt to open it Windows Event view is pointing at LIBEAY32.DLL library as the suspected file. I would not worry about it except Daz Central does not give enough options for directory control. Every time I attempt to change my default Base Path, the CMS stops working correctly, i.e. it cannot find the Prostgre DB. Secondly Daz Central is the pits to begin with, as it is too basic in design and gives very limited in scope.
Below is the error log. and since we can no longer download DIM, we have a problem especially when Daz Central states that the base location is manager by DIM.

Daz no longer opens post updateExactly what file(s) did you download from your product library?
Are you sure you are installing the correct version for your operating system? Win 64 vs. Win 32, for example.
What path did you install them to?
Do you have plenty of hard drive space to extract and install the program?
Are you sure you are trying to run Daz Studio from that install location and not using an old shortcut that tries to load from some previous install location or previous file name?
Have you considered installing with Daz Install Manager (DIM). It is more configurable that Daz Central and a reliable Daz Studio installation method.
Was any Daz Studio log file created when you tried to run the program, even if no window opened? In Windows 10 you can find the log file in "C:\Users\[your-computer-username]\AppData\Roaming\DAZ 3D\Studio4\log.txt
The We Will Miss You, Chohole Complaint Thread...that's why I left north central Wisconsin 41 years ago (and I was much younger then). I don't think I could ever handle several months of "real winter" at my age with my creaky bones and joints. .The snow may be pretty and all, but the thought of slipping on a patch of ice and breaking something or waiting for a bus in those temperatures with a Beaufort 3 - 4 wind isn't.
