I think the textures look nice over Torment, which was posted on the previous page, but the sculpt/morph of Jazz waaay too toony for my personal taste. And I want to buy all the mens. I'm yet to see a good dad-bod sculpt in the core figures (Floyd is marevolous, but he's older).

Would anyone be interested in rendering Jazz next to Sanjay?

I'd love to see a good dad bod. Something substantial without actually being too muscular or too overweight would be great.

Tristan seemed to fit that OK, imo.

I'm starting to feel like my acorn based cryptocurrency "Wonkles" might actually be worth pursuing...

The following is from an old post or one of my Readmes...

    Bitcoins... Pffft...
Reminds me of the .com days.
Just like small children, investors love playing with bubbles... While I can see some form of crypto currency eventually being a stable alternative currency, I don't think the ones we see now are going to be that, unless there is some sort of radical evolution...
In the meantime these numbskulls are driving up prices for gamers and 3D enthusiasts.
But I'll let everyone in on a secret...

I'm currently working on an even better crypto currency... It's based on a complicated system using special acorns which are numbered and given to spiritually enlightened squirrels to bury and then eventually dig up, each person who purchases one acorn (called a wonkel) before it is buried is issued two bananas which are not actually sent to the client, but are given to a specially registered chimpanzee banana attendant who then eats the bananas and writes out a complicated passcode mostly scrawled in poo, which is scanned and then laser etched into the shell of a turtle (called a "foogie") who is placed onto a series of complicated conveyor belts, some of which lead to enclosures with lettuce or others with lava. The surviving foogies (turtles) are then mailed to a crypto bank in Romania (or somewhere secret) where highly trained turtle whispers spin the foogies on a turtle divination board that's sort of like a roulette wheel. The foogie is spun thirteen times and the resulting numbers are multiplied by the number of surviving foogies from the previous night and then divide by 2.003 and that sum dictates the base value of each wonkel issued before 14:00 hours Greenwich time.

The client is then mailed a specially trained budgie (called a parakeet) who sings them their unique transfer code once before it explodes, which they must then quickly write down in invisible ink in their crypto pass book to redeem their wonkels.

As you can see it is foolproof.

My system is based on a physical item, the Wonkel which can be horded or traded, the entire system is based on a bafflingly stupid premise like all real currency, it involves some degree of risk to increase its volatility which drives its demand, it has an ironclad security system involving exploding budgies and invisible ink and the squirrels act as a randomizing factor to keep it real... This creates a complete system that marries the best stupid ideas of both traditional physical asset based currencies and imaginary wish backed crypto currencies.

Of course in the unlikely event all the foogies end up in lava, the system collapses... Which if you were paying any attention to at all, is clearly mostly almost absolutely sorta fairly impossible.

In fact one wonkel is probably kinda guaranteed to do nothing but increase 62,000% per attenuated monthly polysegment.
Not bifurcated yearly amortized disinterest segment, but a real time attenuated MONTHLY polysegment!

So... All I'm saying is if you don't want to look like the biggest most flatulant idiot on earth, you should get in on this before it goes so big that obnoxious Internet celebrities and Russia billionaires are the only ones who can afford this... Not only that, but by sinking every penny you have into my system you will help drive down the cost of GPUs and be able to afford a really good one when the Bitcoin craze pops!

    Win-Win for everybody my peeps!

So yeah... It's looking like people are actually getting stupid enough for me to make this a real thing.

Oh, I am so stealing that! ;-)

  • Lyra Original Figure in Carrara

    Mystiarra said:

Lyra lil sister is adorbs.  wouldnt it be cute to put aiko3 clothes on her?enlightened or on Ava,

    marako dress. or dagonessa.

    You can.

Simply load Lyra into the scene, then whatever clothing you want to fit to her, but don't conform it.

Still in the Assemble room, select the clothing and enter edit (model) mode.

Reshape the clothing to fit Lyra. For this, I always begin by selecting the entire mesh and use the scale and rotate tools to get it as close as I can before making more precise changes.

Soft selection is your friend, not only for shaping smoothly, but it also shows us if the clothing has parts that are separate meshes that are not welded (separate parts won't discolor from the soft selection) - so we can be careful not to wreck the clothing in places that are not attached.

For buttons and the like, I simply ignore them when shaping the cloth to fit, then select a couple of verts that form a loop of the button, use Loop to draw a ring of polys, then increase the selection to engulf the whole button. If it doesn't loop, I just use a very high number in soft select - then move the buttons, one by one to where they need to be against the new shape.

Keep in mind that some things are easily reshaped in this way, others are not. I often just give up on the latter, unless it's something that I really want to use, at which situation I just endure and pateintly work away on it.

    ==============================

    Once you're done reshaping:

    1. Export the clothing as an OBJ - use the Daz Studio Scene preset when exporting
    2. Load Lyra into Daz Studio
    3. Import the new OBJ using the Carrara preset on import
    4. Open the Transfer Utility and choose Lyra in the upper left drop-down, the clothing on the right
    5. Leave everything at default and let the utility do its thing!

My video for this whole process is part of my Modeling for Genesis article

There's also a whole lot more we can do with it to make it work even better. See my Content Creation Tools info for videos and articles about all of this wonderful stuff.

I do these sorts of things quite often when I'm making a new character, like Rosie 5. She's wearing all custom attire.

Another method that I've not tried on any of Vyusur's figures, is the Clone method. Whether or not this tutorial works for her custom figures, we can make clones for her figures as well!

So if the video tutorial method doesn't work, instead of using the auto-fit method he describes,

    1. Load Lyra into Carrara
    2. Load the fit-to figure into Carrara (Aiko 3 in your example)
    3. Reshape Lyra as best you can to match Aiko 3, including the T-pose, etc.,
    4. Follow the same procedure as above for clothes, but this time using the OBJ export as he uses it in his tutorial

I've never made my own clone before. I'll have to try it!

  • Skin Texture change in animation time line how to do it?

For example, I am trying to morph Landon 8 into the Lycan over a set of keyframes and it works as expected transition is smooth the change from one pose at zero to the final position works fine have adjusted to parts don't clip through each other, however, no matter what I try If I set the Landon textures at the first key and the Lycan skin and hair partway through the animation the Lycan overwrites the Landon textures at the start of the animation. Anyone have any ideas for this or would be so kind as to point me at a guide on how to do this, Google hasn't turned anything up. I must be overlooking something simple steps wise, have been trying to scale the hair and its length through the sequence and using keyframes but looks like its all or nothing. Many thanks in advance

  • Migrating DAZ over to new machine

To an extent, you can just copy data directories over and point Daz at them, but I don't know if Windows will have issues looking at Mac files. (I haven't tried this in a while.)

Clean install is good in theory, but when you have terrabytes to transfer, it's sometimes better just to copy over the old.

Testing out an idea here: when applied to the figure, G8M, it will project the morph into the clothing that is affected by the legs. Generally speaking, the pants as well as any footwear that goes over the leg. Works well enough with several clothing items. It is not recommended for "robes" ...

    Sigh, the attachments come and go and come and go .... here's the link for the upload at sharecg.com. {link retired}

    eta: The updated one is available at Renderosity. {I don't recall if the one attached is the updated one or not and as the forum has been quirky of late, I'm leaving it be.}

...non complaint:  Put in the order for the 2 TB SATA III SSD and the 3.5 to 2.5 adapter for the drive bay which will hold both the C & D drives as it was "payday" and I had a discount coupon offer good until tomorrow  Should be here within the week and finally I'll have a much more zippy content library (getting a lot of wait times lately as the current drive is filling up as a good portion non library/runtime related stuff that will remain on the HDD when it gets moved to the "E" slot.

Nice on the new drive.  Now, since I'm the "backup loon", I have a tip to share with you and anybody who might use the backup program Macrium:Reflect.  This could apply to other backup programs too, so whatever backup method you use, take a moment here.

Whenever you add a drive, move partitions from one physical drive to another, change drive letters, or hide/reveal drive letters in your partitioning software, you should ALWAYS go back into your backup program afterward and make sure that your backup "jobs" still point to the drive letters/partitions that you expect them to.

Many many times, I've made drive changes to one of my systems with ultimately NO DIFFERENCES at the end of the process.  For example, my C drive is still my C drive, but it just sits on a different physical drive now than it did before.  Or my P drive is still my P drive and still contains my DAZ library, but it's not at the end of physical device 2, it's at the beginning of physical device 3.

And I'll go into Macrium:Reflect and will see that my C drive backup is now backing up F drive instead.  And P drive backup backs up drives J and K instead, while my F drive backup job is pointing to a drive partition identifier that doesn't translate to any valid drive partition, meaning that that job will fail upon next execution.

It's easy enough to fix this, and I do.  But that's always a step I do whenever I just messed around with physical or logical drive partitions:  Check my backup jobs.  Or else I might no longer be backing up C drive, a content drive, or my documents drive.  Yikes!

It's a simple "best practices" check and may only take you 5 minutes to complete, depending on the backup program you use.  But I highly recommend taking that time and doing it right.

Good luck with the data transfer and getting your new drive up and running.

...thanks, and good advice on the backup targets.

  • Duplicate Formulas - possible solution

    Ron Knights said:

In 20+ years of using DAZ products, I haven't encountered any Duplicate Formulas. Am I lucky, or what?! It seems this problem has existed for decades. Any such problem should be easily fixed in a very short time. What's going on here.

Most of the time it's a clash between two properties with the same name - usually two characters from different stores. The issue doesn't show up unless both are installed. it doesn't affect older figures (if a similar issue happened in Victoria 4 the second morph injected would simply replace the first) and it obviously does require two characters with the same name - since Genesis 8 has already had a longer life than previous Genesis generations it's more likely to crop up - and it also depends on there being ERC links. Fixing the issue is a matter of renaming one or both of the character properties involved.

That game was called Oregon Trail. Pretty much everyone who played it "died of dysentery." So no, it wasn't you. It was just a hard game.

The next time your phone's storage is too full, try closing some chrome tabs and deleting your unused apps. A reset is overkill. You can also delete unwanted photos and transfer the ones you want to keep to the cloud.

I was tempted by the clothing until I realized that there were no real promo shots. Just front, back and untextured. I'm thinking they probably don't look good in the field.

I like the hair and will probably get that.

The head is ok but it seems to float in a grey area between toon and realistic.

The body looks pre-pubescent to me. Elijah 7 was rail thin but it looked like he'd been through puberty. This guy's body looks like it's never seen a drop of testosterone.

The HD morph shows some detailing in the face and limbs but it looks like they skipped over the torso entirely.

I've held out for a long time but I'm starting to believe the conspiracy theories that Daz is attempting to deliberately tank sales of male characters and clothing.

I like his head morph, I don't think he looks toon (not that I would mind that). He looks kind and I think he does bring something a little different to the gene pool.

His skin seems fine, if not all that special.

His body morph is... really bad. And not because he's skinny. Elijah 7 is a skinny dude and has a much more interesting body morph.
