Loading the Highlands set makes daz crash-problem solved-cannot use filament view
Vic, just for your info, this is from our prototyping PC which has a gently ageing i4770K (ancient compared to your CPU), an elderly GTX 1050 on monitor duty and an RTX 3060 for rendering with 24Gb (yup, odd!) of system RAM. Both cards are using Nvidia's 511.65 studio drivers, rather than the gaming ones. It is running the Public Build (essentially the Beta) of Studio 4.20, not the General Release. This is the closest I can get to your PC. Highlands loads fine in both preview and render mode using 6GB of system RAM once it's settled down. It crashes Studio instantly in Filament with an unsigned variable error. This is probably correctable by directly editing the .duf file but... life is too short. It doesn't work in Filament.
I think you're running out of system RAM due to the way you use your PC and the other software you've installed. You appear to be doing what we do with 4 PCs on just your one! You could prove/disprove this one way or the other by wiping your boot drive and starting again and just installing Studio before any of your DAWs et.al. but it's a huge amount of work which may amount to nothing. Hard to recommend, but it depends how much you want to be able to use Highlands or sets that impose a similar load on your PC. Have you run any of the diagnostics I suggested earlier? I think they, too, will prove nothing is wrong with your system but it's worth doing to eliminate a potential cause.
I genuinely have nothing left to offer and because there's nothing wrong with the product, you won't get much joy from Support I suspect. Over to you...
how to quicken an Iray animation in the settingsPadone said:
You can also use the interactive mode instead of photoreal, since you said you can go with loss of quality. Or use filament. Personally with iray I can't go below photoreal with 128 to 256 iterations for my quality taste, depending on the scene, even using the denoiser.
for still images that is understandable but for animations it is less crucial

p.s. Of course these are just the settings. The first thing you have to do is simplify the scene, for example using the scene optimizer addon.
Loading the Highlands set makes daz crash-problem solved-cannot use filament viewIt's two different issues. Some of the big sets have never worked with Filament from the outset. We've got 4.15, 4.16 and 4.20 on different machines here; Highlands has never worked with Filament on any of those versions, and neither have many other products.
An insta-crash to desktop without any notification from Studio (unlike the Filament crash) is, in my experience, almost always related to Studio's intolerance of virtual memory paging. That said, I could be wrong of course but I think this is conflating two entirely separate problems.

Are you using a Wacom tablet, have you tried disconnecting it?
In relation to Filament, there is mention of "std::vector<unsigned char,std::allocator<unsigned char> >::_Xlength" - Doesn't sound good, therefore I would not use Filament preview.
Loading the Highlands set makes daz crash-problem solved-cannot use filament viewI'm also having DAZ Studio (4.20) crash when trying to use Highlands. Oddly it seems to occur when I try to work in Filament or texture shaded mode rather than in Iray. And I have 32 gb of system RAM, so I'm dubious that memory is the problem.
I'm also having similar problems trying to work with Plains and Mountains when trying to get closer to the mountains

Why does the preview renderer have no shadows?the preview render is actually whatever is in the viewport including wireframe or bounding box views etc
the only thing it doesn't preview is 3Delight
Filament has shadows if you have lights
Textured view can to an extent with spotlights

Soemtimes it craashed right off the bat sometimes it lets me do a few thigs first
Is anyone else having this problem, if so i8s there any way to make it run load and work correctly?
thanks
When will the Filament Render be available for Mac users?Yes, you'll have to wait for D|S5 to have Filamnet, but D|S does work under Monterey, so if you want you can keep working in D|S 4.20.xxx now until Filament is available in D|S5.

No insider knowledge, sadly, but a DAZ rep did post that they actually had Filament working in the pre-beta they were going to release before they finally got DAZ Studtio to work under Big Sur without needing a DAZ Stuido 5 update.
No new word as to when D|S 5 will be released to the best of my knowledge, but hopefully it will be beforethe two two-year anniversary of Filament being released for Windows.

When will the Filament Render be available for Mac users? From what I understand, Filament could appear in the next major version of DAZ Studio (version 5) for macOS. The DAZ development folks first needed to update the cross-platform SDK used to create DAZ Studio. This would allow for additional macOS features (and Windows features.)
No timeline has been given for when we might see DAZ Studio 5, or if it will initially offer Filament for Mac.

When will the Filament Render be available for Mac users?Hi, this is njs (he/him).
I was just wondering when the Filament Render be available for mac users?
I do remember asking the tech support team about it, they replied back saying not at this time.
It could happen eventually.
I'm just curious if anyone knows about it yet.
iClone 8 and CC4 anyone?@FSMCDesigns yes, G2 not G3.
I was looking around for something that I might be able to migrate to which has those missing features but is not a start-from-scratch modeller like Blender. Even Blender with Diffeo is a bit of a schlep switching between DAZ Studio and Blender. As far as I know, DAZ Studio and Poser are the only two applications which are so similar - there isn't another like them. So it is a pity that neither has the wished-for features. I would pay for a DAZ Studio which could boast a decent cloth sim, a decent animation toolset and soft-body physics. Even a better real-time render engine because the version of Filament that is implemented right now is not even close to Eevee.
Hair transluscent in most angles in filament?I am wondering why it takes so long to get Filament to render hair correctly. It's almost good enough for finished renders, esp if rendering at twice the resolution and then resampling which makes it look more crisp.
Toning down preview strenghThere will also be a Filament Options node which you can select and adjust to tame the brightness.
Toning down preview strenghThat definitely looks like a Filament preview, so switch to a different viewport draw style.
Toning down preview strenghDo you mean to be using Filament?
List of Filament ResourcesReview: SF Beautiful Skin Filament by Sickleyield and Fuseling
https://www.daz3d.com/sf-beautiful-skin-filament
Organic material is a big challenge for DAZ Filament, it often looks quite unnatural, especially when compared to IRAY - the price to pay for lightspeed renders on weak Hardware.
SF Beautiful Skin Filament tries to help the user achieve a more realistic look for skin material in DAZ Filament.
It does this with the clever use of additional geometry: a geoshell is placed beneath the skin of a G3 or G8 figure, the slightly reduced opacity of the skin surface fakes a subsurfacescattering effect by letting the underlying shell material influence the look of the skin.
To further support the user, 2 Filament lights have been included.
Finally the customer receives two Filament hair shader presets and Filament hair caps as a bonus (These are not being reviewed)
How to use it:
First complete your basic figure and light setup. You can use and fine tune the included Filament lights.
Then select the figure and choose one of the three basic skin tones in the "Materials" folder which suits your figure best (here G8F)

Next add the appropriate "SSS Emulator Shell" in the "Anatomy" folder. Your figure should be still selected.

Now you can further enhance the look of your figure by using one of the 15 "Complete Presets" (here the 15 Presets for the basic G8F Dark Skin Material (also in the "Materials" folder).

Finally you can use the 30 "Diffuse Tints" to fine tune your figures' skin tone. (They can be used with all three basic skin tones you might have chosen, here G8F)

My impression:
Raw render without any changes:

Lighting has been tweaked:

Tweaked lighting and the RSSY Filament Base Shader Preset applied to the skin. (From the product: "RSSY 3Delight and IRAY to Filament"):

Tweaked light and "SF Beautiful Skin Filament" applied:

These are the results I got as an advanced beginner tweaking only a few minutes.
Comparing the four skin renders I personally prefer the last one. My impression is that the RSSY Base Shader can't replace this product and therefore I recommend it. Filament will never reach IRAY standard, but this product gets you a step closer, it has become a great addition to my DAZ Filament tool box.

OK this is new and exceedingly annoying.
the animation range reverting to 217 on reopening scenes is always annoying and stopped for a few builds
now it is back with sprinkles on top, it does it on the fly everytime I do something like pan a camera

OMG guys use DAZ for animation is soo ridiculous
yeah, just spent 17 hours rendering the New Sponza Atrium from Intel with iray 1800 frames

back to Filament and sanity now

BTW DAZ does not import the FBX nicely so unless you have something that does Like Carrara with textures and glow on bulbs! to export an obj, don't bother
