Dartanbeck's Journey - CG Filmmaking

Stay Motivated!
Saw that your Animate tute with DAL hit the Daz store. Going to get you a whole new group of fans like me, I am sure. Hope this encourages you to become a Daz vendor again. Perhaps some of the resources you develop for Rosie can have a more generic version appropriate for sale? Or your Enviro-kits be made Iray compatible, with instances replacing the replicators? Or....
Yes! Working on the same path as I did with Carrara - Starting with Starry Sky Iray for Daz Studio!
Um... well... there's nothing generic about any part of Rosie - so she'll have to just remain the custom little IP that she is! Besides, I buy everything about her in the Daz 3D store! ;)

I also use nulls and primitives to aid navigation. Do you think it is a Carrara-veteran thing? Jay is a Carrara veteran and entered the monthly challenge for the 'Give Me a Sign' theme.
Alberto released a Text Modeler for Studio. It is interesting to me that Howie released a replicator add on (ultra-scatter) to mimic Carrara and now Alberto has released a text modeler. Who is going to release the Metaball modeler? Not just a metaball sticky, but an actual modeler? There is a store item that will goop blobs all over your figure.
I hope to be through the rest of the public MasterClass tutorials by close of business today. Then I will start on the Masterclass tutes for Daz+.
Well, it's a matter of survival as a PA.
With Daz 3d dropping future development and non-active PA products for Carrara, the signs were clear - and who can blame them?
A - Daz Studio was born at Daz 3D. They had a vision, the vision expanded and continues to expand - but clearly.
B - Carrara and Bryce were purchased by Daz 3D to offer to their customers, yet a clear path for evolution is not something that Daz 3D continued to feel as time passed - but they did amazing advancements to both before dropping their development.
C - These visionary PAs, wanting to stay in the game had to take a closer look at the growing advancements of Daz Studio, which has Really taken off since the initial release of 4.0
Seeing how serious Daz 3D was at making Daz Studio into the perfect content creation monster of a platform, yet feeling that NEED for some of Carrara's beneficial features in order to do their thing in Studio instead of Carrara, they entered into Deep Learning and a Ton of R&D.
After recently joining the ranks of Daz Studio users, I can absolutely see why they'd make that leap. What a great tool this is!
So, while I've purchased a bit of Howie's tools and scenes, as well as some of Alvin's and others, I haven't had much time to playwith them yet. With my animation workflow discoveries and creations, I've been Go! ever since - and it just keeps getting more and more amazing!
Then I get to doing Space scenes. Ungh... that reminded me of when I first started trying to do space scenes in Carrara: "Use NASA Hubble Images". It just doesn't look right in 3D animations. Maybe I'm missing something on how to do it right?
So now I'm deep into the new Starry Sky Iray for Daz Studio. Wow... full circle?
I'm pretty sure that there's a feature in Studio that allows us to set the speed at which the mouse wheel zooms in and out. I need to watch my Basics tutorials again - I think it's in there.

So does Carrara 8.5 Pro not work on new Macs?
Not really. See this thread https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/660771/carrara-and-mac-with-m2#latest

Official Release of Carrara 8.5 **Update - 8.5.1.19**Well, I figured out how to download it, but it won't open the install package.
I have a new MacStudio with the M2 Ultra ARM chip. Carrara doesn't really run on it. It will open, but the screen is completely white and the icons at the top of the page don't show up. I didn't have to download Carrara though. I transferred it from my old machine. I think the installer is still 32-bit and won't run on a new Mab, but I'm not sure. I am using Carrara on my new machine by Virtualizing Windows on it. I created a thread to document what I've been doing.

I hope it helps.
Shaders for "Star Wars" ish spaceship hulls?I did actually have a whole bunch I rendered using greeble sets with an isometric camera in Carrara with normal and depth passes
but like everything else I lost it was on the 4TB drive that carked it last year
Google PBR greeble textures and there are plenty of commercial sites including Artstation selling them
I am not allowed to link any in this forum

@Llola Lane: I found the site: http://www.toucan.co.jp/3DCG/3ds/FishModelsE.html
It has an image that has the download links for three kinds, saltwater, freshwater, and clear stream.
Thanks but I just see pieces parts of fish... Not sure how to upload them so they are all together. I'll have to try and figure it out.
Sorry, looks like they are in 3DS format. I generally don't like things that I have to transform like that. I see that they're on Turbo Squid, but they're charging money for them. Otherwise, they might have had other formats.
Yeah.. Daz opens 3DS but in pieces parts. Not sure what program that is for. Don't worry... I'll come up with something ;) We still have time. Thanks for suggestions.
if you have Carrara handy then import the fish 3ds file and then export it back out as an OBJ for DS or Poser
then you may be able to import the new obj file into DS
if not then just use Carrara
Official Release of Carrara 8.5 **Update - 8.5.1.19**I'm seriously considering getting a new, older-gen PC just to use for Carrara and DS/VWD, as VWD development seems to have been abandoned as well. Maybe a refurbished HP Z840?
Official Release of Carrara 8.5 **Update - 8.5.1.19**one of our many Mac users hopefully will pipe in, I know there are issues
Dart, you and I on Windows better not get too smug, we are only ever one Microsoft Update away from us being screwed too as DAZ no longer does maintenance updates on Carrara
Official Release of Carrara 8.5 **Update - 8.5.1.19**That's odd. I would file a support ticket. Whether it works on your modern Mac or not, it should still download.
Just as a bit of troubleshooting - try opening DIM and check the Installed tab and do a search for Carrara.
Still doesn't explain not allowing you to download directly from your account. I assume you're logged into the right account or you wouldn't even see it in your account library.
I just checked and both Windows and Mac versions are available for download in my account library - using Chrome - selecting Carrara 8.5 Pro - also must download and install Carrara 8.5 (not Pro) as that contains the main program.
With the Content, you'll need the Carrara 8 Native Content for sure. That contains the browser, wizards, and all that stuff. The 8.5 content downloads are only the 8.5 updates.
Official Release of Carrara 8.5 **Update - 8.5.1.19**So does Carrara 8.5 Pro not work on new Macs?

Not quite as good though. For example, if something is placed inside a group (in DS), sometimes the framing tool still puts us waaaaaaaaay too far away.
In those situations, I create a primitive cube or sphere, align it to what I want to look at and, while I'm still waaaaaay to far away, I can see the scale of my cube as I bring it up or down to where I want my view, then frame on that and delete it. Works like a charm. It's still not nearly as nice as being able to just quickly navigate the scene as we can in Carrara - with it's various scene magntude level settings. Love that!
well that's why I create nulls
does the same thing as your cubes and I don't need to delete themDiomede's Notepad, Sketchpad, and Chilling PadNot quite as good though. For example, if something is placed inside a group (in DS), sometimes the framing tool still puts us waaaaaaaaay too far away.

Diomede's Notepad, Sketchpad, and Chilling PadI often place nulls around the scene to use that framing navigation tool on
does the same as hitting 0 in Carrara
Diomede's Notepad, Sketchpad, and Chilling PadReally? I find it to be the quickest (?) way to zoom around. I have yet to find a decent way to navigate DS other that to create a primive, scale it to the field I want, and center on it. Sometimes I really miss only working in Carrara! LOL
Tango Alpha DAL Webinar on Designing 3D Environments for StudioTimA shares insights! Notice of 2 upcoming Digital Art Live webinars (Sundays, January 21st and 28th)
I have enjoyed several DAL webinars. Most of you know TangoAlpha who created several Carrara sets joined Howie etc in making environments for Daz Studio. Examples include the UltraScenery outdoor environments for Studio only and the Tangy Orchard and spaceship interior series which included Carrara versions. Potentially of interest and use. Even if attending live is a little pricey ($55 USD, includes 2 sessions and another DAL tutorial recording on lighting), might be on the watch if the recording is eventually picked up by the Daz store. Although he used to use Carrara as a tool in making his sets for Studio, I don't think he has been using Carrara since some Apple operating system updates a few years ago. DAL is a Daz vendor. There is a free forum at their website where you can find discussion of their Daz stuff, and likely upcoming Daz stuff like this webinar. https://digitalartlive.com/ And here is TangoAlpha's Daz3D vendor page where you can find several of his earlier sets made in Carrara but for Daz Studio (and included Carrara versions). https://www.daz3d.com/tangoalpha
