[Released] ManFriday’s Figure Converter for Genesis 9 [Commercial]
I was hoping this would help with the eyeball part of the conversion but it doesn't appear to. I've converted several G8 figures such as Victoria, Edward, Mousso Tatum, and a couple of Bluejaunte's. As advertised all the shapes converted beautifully, but, all with the exception of Victoria have large gaps between the eyeball and socket. I just used the default settings for the transfer and adjusted the rigging afterwards.
Would adjusting the proportion slider help with the eyeball issue, or is there another step I could take to improve it?

Hi Fairyteller,
I'm having problems with Magic - Smart Actions For Posing; I tried using one of my Genesis 3 characters and whenever I select a bone, or some bones, and click on Magic - Pointer my Daz Studio Pro Public Build (Beta 4.21.1.48) freezes over.
Same thing when I try Genesis 8 and 8.1.
I get a lot of warnings like...

File: /data/DAZ 3D/Genesis 3/Female/Morphs/Zev0/Bend Control/Smoother Victoria 6 R.dsfIt seems like the script can't find the morphs or their properties.
I have some morphs in the regular installation folder and the rest in another drive; my library is massive and I don't have enough room in my system drive for all my assets.
Is that what is causing troubles?
Is the script looking for the morphs and values inside the default installation folder?
Can I point the script to look for morphs and values in a custom library folder?
Your product looks amazing but I can't use it at all.

Halp!
Hey,
First, let's get this out of the way: Magic - Smart Actions For Posing is not creating, altering or looking for any morph or any external file. All it does is alter basic rotations for the selected nodes, bones and props. If a figure has a morph or hard drive lookup problem that causes major performance issues when posing its bones, then the problem is with the figure and morphs, and there's not a whole lot that I can do to fix it, sadly.
I have a few questions to help diagnose if the issue comes from the Magic - Pointer script:
Can you confirm that Magic-Pointer is not causing problems on plain Genesis or Genesis 9 figures? Or any animal figure, if you have any?
Do you still see the warning/morph errors in the log if you just load a Genesis 8 figure into a scene?
What if you manually change the value of the "Bend" slider for the problematic bone of a Genesis 8 figure ?
What if you manually (without Magic) set a Point At target for this bone (create a Null, then select the bone and in the Parameters pane, in the "General/Constraints" category, set the "Point At" property to the Null you created)?
What if you then translate the Null to a different position?
I'm asking because these are all the elementary actions that the Magic-Pointer script does, and it does a lot of them. Each of these, individually should be instant. If they take a long time, like half a second or something, and raise a warning in the log each time, then yeah Magic probably won't be good for Genesis 8 until you fix your morph errors :(

I love and hate days like today... Extra 23% off DO, so I can buy Victoria 4 at 43% off...... erm OK
Not complaining, 27 items for $50.05 at 90% off...
Wondering though, why put up the same sale the second time?...
Where are you getting anything 90% off? This place confuses me.
Together with eight tokens and being a Daz+ memberI'm banning anyone using that as a discount lol ;) OK I see now.
Without the tokens, it would still have been 83% off

I'm guessing it's not selling well, as they've added a card to the home page, advertising the thing that's been available all day.
Hardly suprising to be honest, but good for saving money

If you are referring to V9, then several PAs have stated in the forums tnhat G9 is selling very well.
No, I'm not sure where G9 comes into this?
My comment was merely about the "MONDAY-CHRISTMAS" offer, which (unless i'm inccorrect) was a coupon that has been on the listing page all day, but has now got a banner card too

Thanks for your reply. Love how your product fixed my character's look so she's no longer grey and actually looks like her promo images. But I'm stumped when I try to add gens. Used New Gens for Victoria 8. Followed the instructions posted earlier in the thread. Namely, manually apply the pbrskin shader. Then copied the torso of the character to New Gen, but the colors won't match. The next part of the instruction was manual tweaks. What areas would I try to adjust in order to correct the color not matching? Thanks. So hope I can get this to work so I can have her corrected skin tone.
You're welcome
I think you may have missed a step in the earlier instructions I provided - after applying the torso textures to gens, did you then update the textures so that the gens textures were selected? That's probably why there's a colour mismatch. The mention of manual tweaks was more a universal statement, ie if you wanted to make adjustments to all the skin, not specifically the geograft - sorry I didn't make that clear!

Tried your product on a G3 model whose skin renders as grey since the change to Iray. So I've had to use a different skin, but this alters her appearance somewhat. My tests thus far with your product provides a skin tone that is very close to the original character. I'll try the teeth and gen material next to see if it creates a good match for them. Thanks.
That's great to hear! Yes Genesis 3, Genesis 8 base and even Genesis 8.1 base figures all come with monochrome translucency maps which is where the grey comes from. IIRC Genesis 3 had both legacy and 'improved' Iray Uber Shaders where the translucency, SSS and transmitted colors were changed but the same monochrome translucency textures were used. Color translucency maps are far superior, which is where our product really helps those older skins shine by creating them.

The I Miss the Old Days Complaint ThreadI read a great idea if you are breaking up with a creep. Not, that you should never dated them first. Buy a pack of shrimp that is hopefully on sale. Hide the shrimp in a bunches of secret places in their home. Then never return to their home.
I once gave time to a creep that he didn't deserve. I won't call it dating. Somehow he became an unwanted guest in my apartment. Big mistake! Another big mistake is letting him put porn on my computer. I collected artist reference photos not porn, but Mr Creep didn't understand the difference.
Actuall it tends to be more female photos for reference (for texturing current version of Victoria).
Skin Builder 8 Merchant Resource for Genesis 8 Female (Commercial)Continued saga from the posts up above...
Okay... So I got things going real well... Created the textures for 6 characters and then went back to verify how things looked.
BTW... If you don't own one, you should. get yourself a screen calibrator. I highly recommend the "datacolor... SpyderX Pro". I had one a long while back but lost it in in a fire when our home burnt to the ground. I have 3 monitors hooked to my computer (and wish there were 6) and I noticed that each screen showed the same character looking a bit different... so much so that some of the characters that I purchased looked terrible. My new Spyder arrived a few days later. Ta! Da!. I loaded in the characters that I had created textures for and had to redo all of them... Time lost! What I noticed next was in a matter of days, the screens started to change a small bit. What I do now is to leave the Spyder attached all the time. Before I start a "session" where I'm going to use Skin Builder 3 or 4, I do a "Re-calibrate" that only takes a couple of minutes on my main middle monitor where I work with Skin Builder. I can calibrate the other 2 monitors when needed.
Now for the reason that I'm back on here. As I said in my very first post, "No software is any better than its manual". The "sheet" that comes with Skin Builder is lacking in so many ways. If anyone wants to create a "good" YouTube video on how to use Skin Builder, let me know and I'll do all I can to support you.
And so, after re-doing the 6 character skins, I went back to make sure that everything worked. Damn ! ! !
The Skin Builder 8 "sheet" doesn't even cover how to save your character with its new skin. It takes you to where you have your character all textured... then shows you how to set up the folders for the Presets and Textures... and nothing more.
So, when I got to that point, and had created all of the presets, I exited Skin Builder 8 and immediately did a "File... Save as... Scene Subset"... I created one inside the "Characters" folder and and another in the "Characters —> individual character" folder.
( I also have to update a spreadsheet where I keep a record of every DAZ item that shows the complete paths of every part of that item. So far there are 5070 rows with up to 9 columns in width. I started using DAZ back in 2010 and so I have a lot of characters and other items. I also deleted all of my Victoria 4, Kids 4 Michael 4, Genesis 2 Male, and Genesis 2 Female items.)
Yeah, I know... I keep getting side tracked.
Anyhow, when I went to load one of my new characters, it immediately showed me a long list of items that it couldn't find. In researching this, I found that when you finish creating your character and exit Skin Builder, your character only has all of the temporary locations that the program used, rather than the ones you set up in the final "save" tab. The characters will load fine until you clean out the temporary folder.
What the "sheet" failed to tell you us is that, after finishing creating all of your textures and closing Skin Builder, you have to go back and load the original character and then apply all of the Presets... and then save the character as a Scene Subset. Yep... more time lost.
Hope this saves you some heartburn....LOL
BTW... Skin Builder allows you to create great looking skins, however, I sure wish it had one more setting... one for Contrast. Looks like I'm going to have to load the final textures of some of my "creations" into Photoshop just to make adjustments to the contrast.
Hava a happy!

Van Helsing 9
I agree that she looks a bit mannish in certain promos, but overall I find her shape to be a significant improvement from previous G9Fs. Neck, upper back, shoulders, and arms - problem areas for many/most G9 characters - seem to look better here and strike me as more feminine than prior efforts. I can see her as a believable enough representation of a woman that (without steroids or other "enhancers") trains for strength on a regular basis - such as an elite soldier... or a vampire hunter. ;)richardandtracy said:I do think some of the base character promos look quite good. However, for some reason none are selling the character to me. I vaguely felt the body shots looked like 'a well muscled young man with a plant-on chest to make a him into a her'. I do realize that first reaction is not entirely fair, but first reactions do matter. She also looks related to V9 in a similar way to the way that all Mousso characters look related, but does have all and more of the muscle tone V9 lacked & needed. Regards, Richard.
She's leaps and bounds more appealing than Joan and Freja, at least. And (in the bundle) has a softer alternate shape.
I've consistently passed on Victoria 9, so a similarity in facial features isn't a problem for me. To be honest, she feels like the "real" Victoria 9 to me and will probably function as such in my library, being one of the very few non-toon Daz Originals core G9 characters that I've purchased. And with "new Vicky" coming soon after Olympia 9 (which I also like more than previous G9 characters), this almost feels like a rebirth or second chance for G9. That's probably too optimistic, but hey, I'll entertain the notion while it lasts.
It would be nice to see a "new Michael 9" soon, one that looks less like George Clooney or Antonio Banderas and more like Michael 7/8, with a better body shape and more masculine face. Preferably an athletic build in the same age range as Van Helsing 9, with older and younger versions. Dracula 9, perhaps?Looking for this characterWho is this model and where can I find her? https://www.daz3d.com/skin-effects-adventures-vol1-for-genesis-8-81-and-9-females. I see her used in a lot of promos, ever since Victoria 4.
The same hair with different looksWith a little work on your part you might create those different styles from your runtime depending on how extensive your Hair Library is. Check out the PA Mousso's store and look at the hairs on the characters. The PA is infamous for combining different hairs together and creating wonderful new ones and blending them together with shaders. Drives folks nuts on the forums trying to find out what the hair is so they can buy it. Your major concern here would be to pick the same type of hair: transmapped, fiber, or strand so you can use the same type of shaders. Look at the morphs available in the hairs you do have already, you may find you have what you need. And look across generations. There are some great hairs for Victoria 4, G2F, G3F, and I have found I can use them on G8F, G8.1F and G9 without too much issue.
Looking at your hair collection think about what type of hair your character has; fine and thin, thick and curly, really curly African hair, or super straight. Does she have bangs, a part on the left, center, right or is the hair pulled back? Does she have loose hair surrounding the side of her face in front of her ears? Then look for the hairs that match that front to start with.
Then if you have any of the outoftouch, Mihrelle, AprilYSH, chevybabe25, RedzStudio, goldtassle, Swam, Soto (aka Hellboy), and these are just a few that have hairs I see in my Smart Content that could possibly be blended with another hair depending on your character's need. (I have a cat whinging in my ear that it is dinner time.)
While I buy shaders, especial hair shaders like crazy, these are some I recommend or I have seen others on the forums recommend:
