The big announcement on September 21, 2022 - place your bets!
As much as I liked Victoria 9, the textures and expressions, imo there are very good looking expressions also for older figures looking better than those shown for comparison in the presentation. I will admit though, that it seems to be easier to create believable expressions with G9, so you can save time. Still, this part felt a bit manipulating, understandable as this was a promotional pesentation.
Also, as bluejaunte already mentioned, 8k textures can and already are used for older figures.
As freebee i expected a shop item, but who knows, it still may end up in the shop, nothing for me though.
So, no jaw dropping here, I like vicky 9 very much and may buy it someday, although atm with the current huge world wide energy crisis, wars, massive environmental problems i am very hesitant following old trends of "more and bigger" and tend to hope for finding ways to create in ways less energy consuming. Filament kindled some hope, but still has to develop considerably, a hope Versluis also expressed during the show...

I still seriously think that this all hinges on nVidia's big announcement tomorrow. Features have been leaked about the 4000 series cards, and new innovations to Geforce in general. Some rumours have been leaked online about some of the capabilities of the cards, though nothing is set in stone till Jensen takes the stage tomorrow.
Though, if there were some breakthroughs in some aspects (real time ray tracing capabilities, better physics, etc), dollars to doughnuts developers such as Daz, Autodesk, etc were all given the specs and development cards to work with so they could create fancy new software to go along with the new cards. After all, you don't want groundbreaking technology out there with nothing able to support that technology. Games and apps are probably already set to be dropped after tomorrow that will use the 4000 cards to their full potential.
This is just wishful thinking, I guess...but could you imagine the power of Daz being able to utilize real time ray tracing? Creating iRay images would be as quick as creating filament draw images. Animations would take hours or minutes instead of days.
That's actually a good shout with the Daz announcement coming the day after NVIDIA GTC where the 4000 series is going to be revealed .. So it will be interesting to see what Jenson pulls out of his oven later today and how that could relate to Iray .. eyes and ears open everybody!
...as long as it doesn't further hamstring those of us with older cards like the move to RTX did.

Well, in that case, I'd have to stick with my 'humble' 3080 and Studio 4 for several more years. And probably get a new card in time for Genesis 12.
That's what I was thinking. LOL

I put it like you did but the icon is still pratically all blacked out, there must be another setting somewhere else, every now and then the icons come out visible and clear with either filament or texture shaded as far as I remember
Are these black icons the ones produced when the initial save is made, or are these "rendered" icons?
If "rendered", check the render type {3Del or Iray} and the lights.

how to save so icons are not blacked outhow to save so icons are not blacked out
I am saving both figure assets then wearables (for a pair of shoes) I am usually in filament view or texture shaded, sometimes what is saved is visible and clear in the icons, but usually the icons are almost 100% blacked out, is there a trick to save in either texture shaded or filament where you know the icon will show what is being saved?
thanks

the Filament hate I don't get
nobody is forcing you to use it
you used to not be able to render in wireframe either yet nobody is complaining that was also added
its not actually a render node just an optional viewport node and the ability to render all the viewport nodes was added even bounding box if you want it
It's not hatred for Filament. It's respect for what it's capable of as an aid in setting up the scene, even if it's cut down a bit. Now that I have a GPU that can render in Iray, it's frustrating trying to get the Filament viewport to consistently look decent enough to help with that goal.
So I hope, or wish, the new addition to DS could be an improved Filament viewport. Something that looks and works like a professional piece of software.
It's as if my music-writing software got a nice new rhythm section added, to help with laying out my melody, but it turned out to be cut down to just the metronome. Why would anyone do that?

I don't think it is hate so much as disappointment. If I am an example of those who are disappointed it was because I was hoping for something that could rival Blender's Eevee and some of the examples of Filament renders I saw online encouraged that hope. Instead we were given a cut-down version of Filament that is not even close to Eevee and certainly a long way from those rendered examples I saw online.
So if we are getting a fully-fledged version of Filament, that would be something to cheer. But I doubt it. I'm starting to think it will be something connected with NVidia ... Omniverse? USD? Maybe.

Another major change coming to Daz Studio? Could it relate to Filament?
OK, this is just speculation, but I fully believe that Daz 3D is speculating that since EVGA is leaving nVidia, it could cause all other GPU manufacturers to speculate that they should leave nVidia as well.
So to be ahead of the game, Daz3D has decided to drop Iray immediately while the dropping is good. And I'm still just speculating here, but I also fully believe that Daz3D plans to replace Iray with 3Delight, upgraded to be on par with Filament.
Then they will remove one of their more recent embarrassments, that is, Filament. It's brilliant!

Render engine upgrades that require a newer graphics card than the four I have in my machine
This is my speculation, since this is coming the day after the 40-series announcement. 40-series is apparently capable of handling real time ray tracing. How great would it be to be able to render an iRay image in the same amount of time that it takes to render a filament image? Think of how much porn high quality art we could put out.
The big announcement on September 21, 2022 - place your bets! The way things are going, the surprise is probably that DAZ won't be working with NVIDIA any more and we're stuck with Filament... :(

Wierd shadows with distant light in filament modeHello! I have a problem with the universal shadow cast by distant light in filament mode. I have attached a jpg with the render to see the result.
Somehow... this problem occurs even with a simple box on a plane and only with distant light, no other light sources.
