Question about daz central file management
Does anyone know where [daz central] it gets data for assets to show? Is there a file which has list of products and their metadata images etc?

Nope... Close though... it's actually the top right one... I told you it was a creepy doll...
The one on the bottom left is actually a North Atlantic Dollleg Fish (Dolllegus Plasticus) which are quite common throughout the Atlantic all the way up to central Nebraska.
In September they come ashore to mate and hop around on their shoe-like fins.. but mostly be eaten by giant walking tree clams, which is why they are an endangered species.
Installation ManagersAs I understand it, the problem isn't necessarily just with installing files more than one way so much as it's installing THE SAME files more than one way, and that is still a problem. It's best to stick to one method, and that method should probably not be installing them within DS (Connect) because some products can't install properly through Connect. DIM is advisable over Central, but if you're going to use Central, use only that.
Installation ManagersDaz Studio currently has three installation managers: Daz Install Manager, Daz Central, and the Daz Studio program that prompts you when you have missing files from a scene you are loading.
I just bought a new computer, and have years of content and scenes. A few years ago when I installed using DIM, and the software itself, it caused problems with my content and scene loading. Upon reporting this to Daz, they said that if you use Daz Install Manager (DIM) to install some files, and then install other files from the software itself, it will create duplicate files and cause permanent errors in your scenes. So I had to wipe my drive.
Now that I am re-installing everything, it would be nice to know if that is fixed.
As I am reloading old scenes, Daz is prompting me about missing files. Manually searching for them on Daz Central has been time conduming, but I am quite scared of installing them from the Daz Studio software given this was a major bug a few years ago. Can anyone shed some light on this?
Install Content to Different DriveYour instructions are perfect. I have tested one character asset because I have to go to work, and it is working now, Studio on C:, assets going to F:. You are currently my favorite human. The steps I was missing seem to have been changing the content path shortcuts in DIM and, not that it makes a huge difference, changing where the zip archive was located.
Now the long process of reinstalling all the assets begins. For what it's worth, if anyone else happens across this post, I saw in the Daz Central settings that it just uses the DIM settings, so I can reinstall everything through Central just fine. I'll do that because DIM kinda scares me still, I don't want to break Daz anymore. I've had enough of that. You CAN change the paths in Central, but I wouldn't recommend that since Gordig's instructions worked so nicely and Central uses DIM paths anyway.
Again, Gordig, you are my hero. Thanks a million!
Is Daz Central stable now?I downloaded [Daz Central] it when it first came out and it screwed everything up for me. Can't remember what it was, but I recently changed computers and installed DS from scratch. I didn't want to install DC because of my experience so I have Daz install manager. But I've always found DIM to be confusing so I'm wondering if it's safe for me to switch to DC?
Edited for Please put your question in the post body and the title - Daz 3D Forums
Install Content to Different DriveIt should be fine to install DS itself to your C drive, because the program doesn't take up that much space; it's the content you need to worry about. Installing Daz Central onto a different drive won't help unless you change the download and install paths within Central, which I don't know how to do as I don't use Central. I BELIEVE it's possible, but it might not be, because Central is intended to be easier to use for beginners. I'd recommend you ditch Central and use Daz Install Manager (DIM) instead.
Inside DIM, click on the cog icon at the top right and select Advanced Settings.
In the Downloads tab, set the Package Archive to whatever folder you want installer zips to download.
Then, in the Installation tab, create a new profile by clicking the plus button at the bottom left, and set that to wherever you want your content to live, then set Content Path Shortcuts to your new profile instead of the default. If you install DS into a non-default location, you'll want to change the Software Base locations for whichever version(s) of the software you use.
If you use Daz content in any other programs, like Hexagon, Blender, Maya, etc., you'll want to click over to the Applications tab and add each program in, setting the path to wherever the actual application is.
Press Accept, and now you're set to start downloading and installing content.
Inside DS, go to Edit -> Preferences, click on the Content tab, and click the Content Directory Manager. From here you either
1) Select Daz Studio Formats, click the Add button, and point it to where your content is/will be OR
2) Expand Daz Studio Formats, select one of the entries (I believe there are two by default), click Edit, and replace the current directory with the actual location of your assets.
Install Content to Different DriveOk, this is a long one.
I didn't pay attention when installing Daz, so all the assets were going to my boot drive. This is not good, because it's not very big.
Using forums here and elsewhere, I attempted to point Daz at a new asset folder, but that didn't work. I would try to redownload, and Daz would recreate the asset folder on the C: drive. I tried manually moving assets to the F: drive, thinking that, since Daz was pointed there, it would work. It didn't.
https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/224286/installing-daz-studio-on-a-secondary-drive is the forum I kept going back to, since those people seemed the most knowledgeable, however there is no location tab in my folder properties (any of them) and the post is from 2018, so Win10 has probably changed quite a bit since then. Ergo, that post is sadly useless to me.
In my frustration, I deleted everything I could find related to Daz on my PC and reinstalled. Unfortunately, it didn't revert my faulty custom file paths to default as I hoped that drastic measure would accomplish, so in the end I wound up in the exact same boat as before.
Best result I achieved with assets on preferred F: drive? Daz recognized the assets, but they didn't work. I would make a Michael 8, and he would “load”, but it would be a default gen 8 male, albeit taller. All characters, male or female, same result: default gen 8s of varying heights and weird textures. I got frustrated and deleted everything again (except my saves which are backed up anyway).
I have now installed Daz Central onto my preferred F: drive. When I launched it, it created Daz folders in the following places:
C: Daz 3D, which is empty.
C: Users/me/appdata/roaming/DAZ 3D, which has folders called cms and InstallManager.
This PC/Documents/DAZ 3D, which has a folder called Hexagon. If Central made other Daz folders, I haven't found them.
I have not reinstalled studio yet. I don't particularly care if Studio installs to the C: drive, since there is plenty of room without the assets, but I would prefer it on the F: drive. Except Central, as far as I can tell, doesn't let me pick a file path.
I am not computer savvy at all with this sort of thing. If anyone can help me figure out how to install Studio to the F: drive, and then why Daz is seemingly outright refusing to download assets where I want them, even though I had told DIM and Content Directory Manager where to install and find them, I would be super appreciative. Also, if necessary, how to revert the file paths to default first, assuming they are still in whatever messed up order I had attempted like the last time I reinstalled Studio. And feel free to use small, easy to understand words, because I am clearly in need of beginner guides. Also, I use Daz Central for all my downloads because that's how I learned. I would like to keep it that way, but if I must adapt then I must adapt.
Oddly enough, my one Renderosity asset works just fine, but wings with no people are kind of pointless.
And finally, I work weird hours and too much overtime, so it might take me a day or so to see any replies to this. But I will see them, because I am done trying to figure this out by myself, it's been three weeks and I must create. Thanks in advance!

Thanks! Unfortunately the Hexagon private build Beta is no longer available. :(

I got myself a new PC last month and DIM worked for me. You can always go to your Product Library and download it again, remember you're after "2.5.2.137 (64 bit) Private Build +BETA+"
Thanks for the info. I don't have DIM installed. I have Daz Central. Will DC also show the Beta? I can't seem to find it in there
Daz 4.20I have read some of the problems with 4.20 and it is mind boggling! I am not a computer tech so I do not understand why all this is happening. I just want it to work like it is suppose to without having to reset everything every time I open Daz. I am affraid to make some of these listed changes out of fear of destroying something. My 4.15 worked just fine. I would like to go back to it. I have saved the file for it, but with my internet so slow here, it takes about 16 hours for the Daz central to load, so I can get the studio. I have the 4.20 central loaded now. Can I go back to 4.15? I hate this 4.20 version. Way too much troubles. Can you help me Richard? (I will not make any changes on my pooter. You guys need to fix this!)
Any way to smarten up the Smart Content search?Griffin Avid said:
Now, not so much. If I search "Figures" I only get...maybe 30 characters.
Just to be clear, you're entering "figures" into the search bar in Smart Content? If so, it's no wonder you're not getting many results, because it's only returning products that have "figures" in the name.
Even if I use the Install Tab, I only see a partial list of my (recent) purchases.
The Install tab is for Daz Connect, i.e. installing products within DS. If you install manually or through DIM/Central, then the Install tab is meaningless.
Daz Central not installing Daz Studio 4Hi ,
So I have this issue where Daz central refuses to install and stops at 57% without any error texts or notice. Seems like Genesis 8 male essentials fails to download and the whole process just stops.
I did try to download through Daz Install Manager but it has a issue with CMS connectivity issues as well. It has been almost 6 hours of installing and uninstalling and re-installing. I have given up right now.
Any quick and possible solution is highly appreciated. THANKS !

...so is there a reason that the last flash sale of the day now ends at 22:59 MDT instead of 23:59? Even more inconvenient for those west of Utah (21:59 on the west coast is 23:59 [effectively midnight] in Tennessee [Central Time] which is where Rendo is located).
Well it was even less convenient in England!
But more seriously, I think they ran it 12 hours before as well which feels like a very fair way to do it, and I hope we see more of that in future.
At least I have emails with that banner at 1 AM and 1 PM...
4.20 and Genesis 1I am in the middle of a project for a friend and am using Genesis 1 characters for simplicity. I purchased the aging morphs add-on for G1 and G8 Males and Females. When the products were installing, Daz Central automatically updated my DAZ 4.18 to 4.20. Now I cannot locate the G1 facial morphs/poses. Did 4.20 hide them in another place, eliminate them altogether, or did the aging morphs do something to them?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I don't have Scripts menu in DazStudioYes, I've read all other posts on this subject, none have helped me so far. No matter what I do I can't install or open the Daz to Blender plugin.
I don't have the Scripts menu in DAZ Studio 4.20 Pro
I tried installing and opening Daz to Blender directly from DAZ Central too.
Nothing works, i've wasted so much time on this....
This happened to me last month too, and i gave up. Tried again and I failed again.....
Why isn't DAZ support doin anything about this?

I was able to get Daz Central installed with lutris. There were some issues with lirary files that I had to reinstall and gamemod was confusing wine as to the arch and the Dazcentral installer complained about trying to install a 64-bit program on a 32-bit machine.
I got the point where I could install Daz Studio and it seems to be stuck on building interface. the WIneserver is running at about 100% CPU. My guess is that there is some other issue.
Can anyone advise on how long the building interface phase should take?
Nah.. well, usually just takes a few seconds.
As pointed out earlier in this thread, i do not use Lutris, so i don't really know what "runner" is used and all that... cos that is somewhat important. The Lutris provided "custom" versions of wine have a few patches that might interfere with DAZ i might think. DAZCentral is also not overly smooth when running with Wine tbh. I have gotten a much better experience using DAZInstallManager https://www.daz3d.com/install-manager-info
