Bored about Bikinis, lingerie and underwear for female characters
"I see more harm in the store's reputation to lower the bar to bring on low selling items and vendors. There's not much point adding content that only a tiny portion of consumers will use."
Theres no growth without risks, and if it means daz seeks out New fresh blood PAs willing to tackle the really uncharted areas in the 3D realm, even if they are slow producers, then what is there to loose? Yes there has to be quality standards... something I see has bounced UP and DOWN here at daz. Quality has nothing to do with the type/themes of content a PA creates for. And on that note, how in the world is a PA who makes content that deviates from this current Same-Same skimp market right now, automatically considered bad quality? Sorry, but I do not see Luthbel's beautifully imagined outfits bringing down Daz's reputation, because its not skimp and apparently would sell less than Victoria 7's latest fishnet stockings and cut up mini skirt.
Content that deviates from this threads title will never be possible, if it's avoided or gets a possibly reduced effort when produced on the assumption "it sells badly, so I wont bother". Not trying to argue with anyone, I just dont see the logic. Risks must be taken for improvements. If no risk is taken, nothing ever changes. Its the exact same thing that made Iray possible in Daz Studio

I think the point is that the risk will be not worth it if the majority of the buying public buying habits do not change. Bringing in new PAs just so they can sell 10 items a piece and get discouraged is not growth. Increasing the actual demand and purchasing power of the customers so that those items affect the bottom line is really the goal. Vendors simply can't or should be asked to bear this burden. That's really in the customer's hands.

Bored about Bikinis, lingerie and underwear for female charactersAgain, you're using a real-world comparison where products take up space and require the store to purchase and dispose of them when they don't sell. That is not a problem for us.
DAZ's first products for Victoria remained in the store here for what, over a decade? What harm did it do?
It was said multiple times in this thread that a PA's products sells the most in its first 48 hours. That other big marketplace has a rule that if a product doesn't sell any copies in a month, it's removed. That could work just fine for filtering out stuff that doesn't sell at all here after the initial release if you really feel it's necessary to cull unpopular products.
Still Rendo has a clearance section for low selling products, but the point is still the goal is not to accept vendors with the intentions of being low sellers. No business does that, 3D or not. And no vendor sells with the intention of being low sellers.

Realistic cloth shaders for IrayWe have a metric sh*t ton of metal shaders for Iray. How many different types of chrome and spacey metals does Victoria need? How about some textiles? Some nice cottons, non-glossy leather, twills, tweeds, wools etc..
Gravity Hair - My Kingdom for Gravity HairMost the hair models are made while in the classic "T" position... It's hard enough to make most hair look decent when Victoria has her head turned all the way left or right let alone upside down... I agree we need hair that acknowledges real world physics, but good luck to us waiting for someone to stray outside the box and create something new.
Released... Amisi for G3 [Commercial]I appear to be very limited on nails for G3, seems all characters I have thus far don't come with any nail polish options, I've tried an iRay nail colour from LG Jolie on Illicites which has just come out black (which works for the render I'm working on thankfully) is there any reason nail polish has been overlooked? I can't even find any included with V7? ?
I just looked on my content bought so far for G3, which is Victoria 7 Pro, Eva 7 Pro and Cosette HD. Cosette has nail polish, as does the characters FWSA Adaline HD for Victoria 7 (in V7 Pro) and FWSA Dayna HD for Eva 7 (Eva 7 Pro) so it's only characters not Daz made that have nail polish so far so the makeups and nails from this Amisi will come in handy for many especially since you can use them on other G3 ladies
Error: The "Victoria 4" support folder could not be found - Solved! (Thanks, Mike!)What is the full path to that Victoria 4 folder, and what folder(s) do you have listed in Preferences > Content Library > Content Directory Manager under "Poser Formats"?
Also, make sure that OSX hasn't reassigned the mount point for your external drive.
Here's the full path:
Samsung_3TB > ! 3D Computer Graphics > My DAZ 3D Library > Runtime > Libraries > !DAZ > Victoria 4
I don't know what you mean about "OSX reassigning the mount point" - I don't know how to check that. But most of my content seems to be loading just fine - I have only seen the problem with the Generation 4 figures - V4.2 and M4.
Aha! Your second question finally gave me the clue to my mistake. When I moved "My DAZ 3D Library" to the external drive, I only added the new path to the "DAZ Studio Formats" section of the Content Directory Manager. Adding it again to the "Poser Formats" section did the trick.
Thanks, Mike!
New to Carrara, confused as hellYes, I agree. I never use smart content. Its references to its database could be responsible for some of your slow response time. I prefer to load everything from the content tab within the content browser. If you did a default install, you should have folders for "My Daz3D Library" and "My Daz3D Library Runtime" with the key difference being the word "runtime." You will find Poser-style content (CR2, PP2, etc, but think in terms of Victoria 4 and earlier) in the "Runtime" folder. You will find the DUF-style content (genesis, Victoria5 and above) in the subfolder without the word "Runtime." I did a custom install so my names are a little different, but the key difference remains the word "Runtime."
To get started with a new purchase of Carrara 8.5, I believe that you have genesis, Michael 5, the Pure Hair Classic, and the Michael 5 casual clothes by Bobbie25. You will find the Michael 5 figure based on genesis in the My Daz3D Library folder, genesis subfolder, character subfolder. Click and drag the Michael 5 icon from the browser folder to the instances tray. This will load the figure at the zero position. Notice that the figure structure has "Michael 5" at the highest level, then "Genesis" one level below, then the next level has 2 items, including "actor" and "hip." I prefer to load har, clothes, etc. to the top folder level (Michael 5 in this case) without using "fit to" yet. So, the hair and clothes are on the same folder leel as Genesis and all are within the same larger group. Then I use the "fit to" function. You can select the genesis level to apply poses, expressions, hands, etc. from the content browser (again, not smart content). You will find shape morphs for genesis by selecting the "actor" level and clicking on the "parameters" tab in the upper right.
I do manage to use the Smart content tab but it takes a few minutes to come up and does apear to freeze Carrara. but other than that I follow the above advice, it does sometimes miss content though.
I have a new top of the line I7 computer with 16 gig of ram and the file I saved for the Carrara challenge took 4 hours to save as I acidentally left the compress option checked. in the mean time it appeared that Carrara just froze up. I left it and it did come back to life.
I do have issues with the smart content tabe not always being populated because it did not start the DataBase correctly in which case I just exit and restart. i have fewer issues if I start the DIM and have it up when I start Carrara.

New to Carrara, confused as hellHere is a video for getting started
I will say that my Carrara 8.5 Pro experience is much more stable than you report. So, it is definitely worth figuring out what is causing your problems. Also, there is slower response time for the first two genesis-tech figures (genesis and genesis 2), but I have gotten them to work in Carrara. There is a thread dedicated to addressing some of the common issues that occur for genesis and genesis 2.
http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/45361/%3C/div%3E%3C/blockquote%3E
At this time, Carrara does not natively support Genesis 3 at all, although the figure can be brought in as an obj file or collada export after being posed in Daz Studio.
Also, Carrara natively supports figures that have the original Poser rigging, such as Victoria 4, Michael 4, and earlier.

Error: The "Victoria 4" support folder could not be found - Solved! (Thanks, Mike!)That means it isn't finding the \Runtime\Libraries\!DAZ\Victoria 4 folder in the current content directory - is it there?
It seems to be there, Richard. Shouldn't reinstalling the V4.2 base take care of that, anyway?
Trouble with V3 and M3 shapes for GenesisThanks for the input, boys, but I finally found the shape I was looking for!
- I loaded the Basic Female.duf figure
- With her selected, I clicked on the Parameters tab
- In the search field, I typed "Victoria"
- and the modifier appeared!
I'm theorizing that my rebooting the computer had something to do wtih me suddenly being able to find the morphs I was looking for.

Error: The "Victoria 4" support folder could not be found - Solved! (Thanks, Mike!)I have made a number of changes to my system since I had to replace my internal hard drive (iMac running OS X). I moved my DAZ library to an external drive, and reconfigured Studio and the DIM to point there. That seems to be working and I'm able to see and load most content just fine, through either Smart Content or the Content Library. But suddenly when I try to load V4.2, I get the above error message. I thought I had used V4.2 since the reconfiguration, though I'm not certain of that. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the V4.2 Base, but that didn't do the trick.
What do I need to do to resolve this?
Thanks for any help.

Saved Puppeteer PresetsI have a question concerning saved puppeteer presets. I have noticed that if I use any base figure [ex Victoria 4] and save out a puppeteer preset it is only good for that base charatcer. If I load the preset onto another V4 character [ex Aiko 4], the morphs are then zeroed out, and it defaults back to base V4. Am I correct in assuming that a puppeteer preset can only be used on the figure/morphs that it was originally created for or is there a way so that the preset can be used on other V4 characters without losing their morphs?
Victoria 5 to 7 in SimValley? Like Secondlife...Hello everyone,
I'm taking part in building a wonderful new community in a cyber grid called Sim Valley - www.simvalley.nl - and it's very much like Secondlife. However it is not YET as advanced as Secondlife - because Secondlife has had quite a lead and also incredible vendors and builders. This is the sure future of Sim Valley - however it NEEDS incredible vendors and builders and they are starting to come in. Many are coming from Secondlife - due to the high costs of rent and land there - and it's driving many away. The determination is that this will not happen in Sim Valley. That said and now aside... we can get back to the Sim Valley needs.
Avatars - that equal those now found in Secondlife.
I need to know...HOW can we possible utilize the technology of Victoria 5, 6, or 7 in there? I see many vendors in Secondlife that are vendors at Renderosity and here at Daz3d.com - and they are making money there. It's going to be a bit different in Sim Velley - at a certain point of building it up, there will be stores, shops etc. where various vendors can and will earn... but not on the scale of Secondlife where people are leaving... it will be at a rate that does not steal the joy and pleasure all went in there to find.
1.) Okay... so can anyone direct me, or help me on how to get started?
2.) Are there any here who are skilled enough in animations - avatar or character building ie; shapes and looks? Or builders of vast worlds of fantasy who would love to come in and make their mark on a new grid world that is going to be amazing? If you do... for right now - anyone coming in will get an entire SIM -(Land)- for FREE! Which will remain yours rent free cost free all the way into the future when Sim Valley takes off.
So... any help offered or links to how it's done are welcome!
