Why do you think, you cannot use 'Smart' Content without logging in?

Logging in to DS, is only necessary if your primary (only) method of installing content is DAZ Connect within DS, otherwise logging in just creates problems.

I see two problems with your content libraries,
- Not a good idea to have ones content library on OneDrive, in principle it does work but slowly.
- You have specified the same path for DAZ Connect installed content and for DIM/DAZ Central/Manual installation, which may be the main cause for your problem, as that makes DAZ Connect installed content "nested" under "DAZ Studio Formats"

DAZ Connect is the one within DS, DAZ Central is the 'simplified' DIM.

Thanks, that makes sense! Technically I do use DIM because I couldn't find courses in Daz Central, but now I think I could probably download them from the site. But not connect.

Check the log file - at 86% it probably isn't Daz Studio itself but one of the additional products that come with it, which Daz Central rolls into a single entry.

I installed my version of Daz Studio on an external drive (Z:). When I upgrade to the latest version (4.20.0.17), Daz Central installs Studio, and stops at 86 percent, then says the install is complete, but the install failed. It does not install Daz Studio.  

I uninstalled and reinstalled Daz Central, but the app keeps a trace somewhere and saves the settings, and the failed install data. Every time I try to install Daz Studio, it begins at 86 percent, and I get the "Installation complete message." 

Can somebody help?

I don't think I am....? I don't have DS set to log in. Once, it complained that G8 Starter Essentials had missing components, so I logged in then, and that was a mistake! I ended up uninstalling them from DS and Daz Connect, then reinstalling from Daz Connect to make it work again. That's not a mistake I intend to repeat!

Does anyone know where the UVW template for Genesis 8.1 is located?

Daz Central and Daz Install Manager don't seem to have a listed for Genesis 8.1 uv templates.

DAZ does not give you the Bryce assets and forces you to download the DAZ central installer. Blows my mind they wont let you download an old sofware like this manually. Going to cause all sorts of issues. If you have a way to download them without using hte DazCentral DIM then PLEASE let me know. 

If you're talking about the Install DazCentral button then, thats what I did. It just takes you to dazcentral installer page. 

Though, I did figure it out. It wont let me download the .exe if i use safari. I switched to google chrome and it let me download the windows version.

Edit: dazcentral doesnt seem to work through crossover on m1 mac... dang. Is there really no bryce 7 3d installer? Why do i have to use daz central?
Edit again: Thanks for everyones help. DAZ apparently mislabled the bryce installer as DAZ studio in the product library. I was able to get it working in crossover on m1 mac!

Hi, I haven't used DAZ Studio for a couple of years and I just updated everything by downloading DAZ Central - this is the first time i have used it.I have always done everything manually up to now.  How do I get the Genesis 8.1 figure in my content library? Do I have to download and update anything like Genesis 8 Starter Essentials? When I look in my DAZ Central under plugins there is no Daz to Genesis 8.1 showing for me to install. I am updating my Victoria 8.1 which is taking a very long time to do. Any advice would be helpful :)

For me, I think I'm going to tackle 2 problems today and see if I an get them fixed.

Or if I click on genesis 3 male now, instead of the default genesis 3 male, I get this other default image.  I think it is "Chase".  However, that is weird because I've never gotten it to work properly and don't really use it.  So if I click on genesis 3 male, I get the "chase" figure at regular size (I think it is chase anyway).  I then save it as a scene subset.  I click on file>new to clear the scene out.  I load in the scene subset and I get the full size genesis 3 male instead of the one I just saved.  Things I've tried.  I looked into the female genesis 3 and don't seem to have a problem there at all.  I uninstalled/reinstalled genesis 3 male essentials through DIM / Daz Central and it didn't help.

#1 after multiple tries, I think everything is up to date and installed.  I'll be totally honest, I don't get the install process at all.

#2 I have more than one content folder. One is strictly for trying out freebies and so forth.  For some reason, "Growing Up for Genesis 3 males" was installed in both places and it was the extra that was causing the issue.  I uninstalled and then deleted the 2nd one out of my "test content" folder and everything appears to be working normally again.

#3 I mowed the lawn.  I'm 57, but feel like 107.  It was hot and humid and I either have a hernia or I am closer to one.  The doc always said I was close.  Mowing wasn't that much fun.  I still have a little bit of weed eating to do, but I need to charge my battery in more ways than one so it will wait until tomorrow.

If you tell it to turn off a morph (defined by its relative path), it turns off ALL instances of that relative path + morph, wherever they are located.

The "Smart" part of the Smart Content is derived from the metadata. The metadata can come from any of the installation methods (Connect, DAZ Central, DIM), they are all supposed to be identical. DAZ added the ability to install directly inside Studio, clearly their preferred method, but many prefer DIM. There will always be dissenters to any of the methods, but that is another kettle of fish. You are not wrong in believing that Smart Content and Content Library are different ways of displaying the same information, but it is not explicitly clear. DAZ has been rather vague on that point, whether by design or omission. You do not have to install content from Studio to use the Smart Content system. (Again, there are those who would disagree, and with some merit, it is not foolproof).

Third party data isn't necessarily unwelcome, as long as it follows the conventions used by DAZ vendors (which is sometimes a problem anyway). However, it would be a good idea to keep it separate just in case. By default, those products have to be installed manually unless you make a DIM-compatible package (like with Content Package Assist)

The content is smart if there are compatibility relationships established between items, like a figure or prop and material presets or preset poses. With the figure selected in the scene, Smart Content would show you only those products and files that would be compatible with it. Sometimes the net is pretty wide, but you can narrow down the results by drilling down in the categories on the left side.

If you are sure everything is installed properly, you can re-import the metadata from the Content DB Manager -> Re-Import Metadata... (NOT in Smart Content, that will go and use Connect). Select all products and accept. It could take a while to complete. This action pulls in the metadata from the DIM-installed manifests for the products. Hopefully you won't have to re-download and re-install everything. My own personal concern is leaving it in the Connect folder. That might mess with Studio's head, thinking you should download it when using that folder. The content can be moved to a different folder with little effort (really, just move it) without breaking anything. (Well, almost nothing. There is a path in each product's manifest that says where it was originally installed, but that can be edited to point to the new location with a batch replace using something like notepad++ in 5 minutes).

You can still have more than one library folder, just remember that Studio scans them in the order they are defined looking for files, taking the first one it finds (in case of multiple versions).
