Yes, there's something in the Rebekah textures which makes UDIM fail. Note that G8F or Victoria 8 work fine so this is limited to Rebekah. Now reported to Thomas.

Thank you for the confirmation and report!

  • Can you guess the Character Morph??

    Thanks for the input, Taoz!
Indeed Stephanie looks very close to the promo model, especially the eyes, mouth and brows too, good eyes!. I will definitely look into her, there is a chance that it is her!
I do have many custom face morhps already, I am just trying to find which model was used as a base to start with.
I also do understand that there's a huge chance this a heavy custom mix with different morphs, as it is with most promo models, but most of the time you can see which model has been used as base, Victoria for instance can be seen all over the place, you can see her modified but you can still pinpoint what it was used as base.

  • Can you guess the Character Morph??

    Hi guys,

For those with sharper eyes here, I have a quick puzzle.

I'm trying to figure out the exact character morph used in the promo images for SWAM's Athina Hair(Genesis 9) https://www.daz3d.com/swams-athina-hair-for-genesis-9
The skin is defenetely Addy Colette(moles and freckles match perfectly), but the face structure and the FiberMesh brows are not hers.
I've already tried apllied the skin of Colette on multiuple models like Victoria 9, Addy Madeline and more, with no luck. Could be a specific merchant or resource mix.
Any idea which base model or dials  could achieve this exact look??

Isabella 9 has bundles I would go nuts over. But...

The character's face (not skin) reminds me of Arianna 8.1 that I recently got from OS/QG and love. Also much in common with Snow Queen bundles. Both traditional fantasy themes and each offers an elder, younger, and child shape.

The DAZ Core character bundles have been repeating the same basic type of content and character looks for quite a while now, with the stuff in the character bundles usually having the most "I've seen that before" content... which probably is not surprising considering there have already been over a hundred G9 core figures released so far (and that's NOT counting the 30-ish monsters, centaurs, etc.) and the facts that DAZ has dropping at least two new ones a month and then giving a huge percentage of the character bundles away for free to Premier members. Since it's usually the same general group of artists, there's probably not a whole lot of time to sit around and think about coming up with something completely new and original, so I'm sure there's a tendency to go back and do variants on the proven 'this sold before" concepts.

Yeah... But, curiously, Isabella 9 is one of the few uniques, made to resemble Elle Fanning, and looks nothing like Arianna 8.1... (Like, "nothing" rhetorically, since both have two eyes, one mouth, one head, two legs, etc.)

However, indeed, and I commented about it here before, the core figures, apart from a few variations, are quite look-alikes, like "one big family." Didn't do it for later figures -- though I'm sure the rule still applies --, but, as I was beginning in Daz, I did a test with all G3F, rendering a portrait of 'em all with V7 skin, and, apart from oddities, like Girl 7 and Aiko 7, there were basically two groups: the Victoria group and the Fae/Teen group (TJ7, Mika 7, etc.) -- they were all variations from their group same base shape. I doubt things changed... In fact, I think the issue has been aggravated with G9 and their every-other-week release.

I understand PAs doing this with their own characters because creating a character from scratch for every release would make their business unfeasible; I would expect, however, Daz Core characters to be more unique and original to justify their prices -- luckily for me, I get them now only through the monthly premier coupon. If I had to buy them, I'd be quite selective and only get the ones that stand out (and on sale, of course).

A lovely asset to work with. It would be nice to see more long dforce hairstyles with built in headwear.

    @garrett_3d there is https://www.daz3d.com/dforce-beanie-hair-for-genesis-8-and-81-females by @PhilW and the add-on for it: https://www.daz3d.com/brimmed-hats-for-beanie-hair-for-genesis-8-and-81-females.

There was another by the PAs EmmaandJordi that I have, dForce Sporty Chic Outfit, Hair and Poses For Genesis 8 Female(s) where the knit hat had little 'ears' things. Unfortunately they are no longer with DAZ. If you were here when they were you might have bought the hair or outfit.

Hey, I'm just wondering if anybody else here is having issues using the RSSY Victoria 4 to Genesis 8 Female Clothing Converter script after upgrading to Daz Studio 6. Nothing is working for me. I even manually deleted the past files and manually installed them myself. It just tells me there is an error and to see the log.

That's something I've definitely noticed about the ones that are being sold as DAZ originals, though there is more variety in the non-DO product.  The thing is, by my count he's knocked out over 85 characters for G9 in a few weeks over 3 years, and a full third of them are DAZ PC+ items.  I don't know what an Artist gets paid for a DAZ buyout, but given that DAZ is really the only "customer" customer in those cases, is it a surprise that those items overwhelming lean towards the establiched store predilections?

It has more to do with the fact that creating a character from scratch takes a lot of time, and with all the sales, coupons, etc., characters end up being sold here for less than three bucks, so, to make the business feasible, you create one from scratch, then you make others that are variations of the latter, so your business is sound. One can expect PAs to always create entirely new characters and, at the same time, purchase them for less than $3 bucks. Like, I'm not saying you have any obligation to buy them: we can always vote with our pockets, and I also refrain from buying a new character when I notice I've bought it three times already (if not more) -- I'm just stating the reality PAs face when they create their products, combined with their real price values.

exactly. Its why i stated they need to be spiced up. Even those were getting too much with all the similar tats. Similar faces. Its difficult to create new unique characters though, especially when there's so many already. That's why Feng is decent, but now his old er women are starting to look similar. I think a part of it is if you're working solely with the G9 model ad its existing morphs.  No matter what is done they remain similar. The good different ones are zbrush modeled or whatever. maybe I'm wrong but maybe not laugh

It has nothing to do with ZBrush... There's this myth that, "if ZBrush (or Blender, or Maya) = good; if Daz = bad..." I can make thousands of different characters in Daz, while in ZBrush (or a similar program) you can do the same thing over and over from the same starting point... Moreover, to make something good in "ZBrush" -- here, meaning "sculpting" -- one has to be a good sculptor -- I've seen a lot of deformed characters that were obviously done in some ZBrush-like software, and the "sculptor" was really incompetent. Moreover, there's also this "myth" that it's only good or original when someone doesn't use dials -- while all those programs also have dials or directly input parameters for precision (and, on the other hand, Daz has its own Geometry sculptors, plus there are other plugins for those who don't like the Premier solution).

no myth or bad in what I was saying. When you are using the same base with the same morphs, your underlying base is the same, and thus similar looking characters. Sculpting can change up the deal.  How many sisters are there within the stock  G9 chatacters.

Morphs can do the deal the same way as sculpting (of course, I'm talking about partial morphs that target specific parts and not full body morphs or full head morphs). And, dude... I don't know if by "stock G9 characters" you mean the "core" Daz characters (Victoria & co. -- which, by the way, aren't core for anything since long)... If so, most of them look the same (and since a long time ago...) Like, experiment with rendering them all with the same skin to verify this fact... If I misunderstood what you mean by "stock G9 characters," sorry, but, then, I 'm curious to know what it is.

    Yes. Core

I'm not following why this observation would be limited to G9 based characters. I feel the same way about many of the G8 based characters that continue to be produced. I've also seen that some artists are able to create in their unique style, yet still produce interesting characters, whether it's with G9 or G8.

There are a lot of factors at play and it's definitely not limited to just G9 or the use of z-brush.. though it's worth pointing out that while the first demonstration of z-brush and release the original Victoria figure both came out in 1999, there really wasn't a publicly available version of Z-brush until until 2003, so z-brush's relationship with DAZ really only began during the run of Victoria 3 period, with z-brush not coming into it's full-dominance until Victoria 4.  That said, even during the Victoria 3 days there were artists whose characters consitantly had a certain "look" that always shown through, some more strongly than others.  Ultimately, while the tools certainly influence thiings, I think it's akin to how things are in the world of illustraion, as it mainly comes down to what the individual artists are interested in and find aesthetically pleasing.  I think most people can immediately recognize a lot of artists styles automatically, even if they don't necessarily know who the artists are, and it's easy to spot a character by Frazzetta,  a pinup girl by Gil Elvren or a a superhero by Jack Kirby.. The thing is, they're all realistic versions of human beings and while there are those who kvetch at times that most of Frazetta's barbarians are pretty much indistinguishible from each other, I don't think there are many who would turn down the opportunity to have an original.  If you don't like a particular 3D figure, that's fine... no one is twisting your arm... and if enough people stop buying from a certain vendor because they think the products that are coming out are too similar. it's up to the PA to be aware of that trend and make course corrections as they see fit.

  • LIVE! In the store NOW!! LowPi - the Low Poly Figure, and Crowd Creator Scripts
    crosswind said:

I also agree that it'll be nice to mostly adopt LowPi's advantages but bringing better morphs as well as textures to LowPi could be even better.

I ever experimented wrapping a LowPi on Victoria 9 and projecting V9's diffuse + normal maps to LowPi by using Texture Atlas UV. The result seemed pretty acceptable, like the attached Ss. Small size diffuse + normal maps just consume a little bit more VRAM.

I did the process in Faceform Wrap but I believe the process can also be done in Blender by creating wrap and texture projection templates (though texture projection in Blender is not 100% perfect but should be good enough for LowPi). The templates can be reused for wrapping any Genesis characters as well as converting their texture maps ~~

I don't immediately see how this modified LowPi will work with the Crowd Generator, which assumes a neutral LowPi and applies morphs to make male, female, child, etc.

I think I saw Michael 9 still in OS after the big glitch. It's hard to be 100% certain with the large number of OS items.

I'm looking at eligible DOs others have mentioned here, since all the ones in my WL are either OS/QG or way over $10

I bought Michael 9 from OS, I think at the beginning of the month or whenever it updated.
