Light Presets Reviews By Novica
This list will make it easier for you to quickly find your product and see what lighting results your figure will have from "World Center" (XYZ Translations 0/0/0) These lights were tested on the Base Female UV map, by my V6 character Chiara.
This is not going to be indicative of how a scene will be lit, but this is WONDERFUL for portraits and also for those of us who move the scene so our figures ARE at World Center to take advantage of presets that are lit extremely well at those coordinates. (Yes, move your scene instead of your objects!)
And remember, many of these are Platinum Club items- get great lights for $1.99! As time goes by, I will put the new reviews at the top. Enjoy! :)

Village Courtyard is a large set, and lighting it requires a lot of spotlights and distance lights if you're not using other types of lighting. It comes with lighting but I tested it with just those two types of lights. This has four distance lights and three spotlights, including one shining up into her face.
These renders are testing a darker style in postwork. I'll render some lighter ones for you later today or tonight.

This render is designed to give you the feel of the steps sweeping upwards- great to use from "from the ground" viewpoints. By shooting upwards, you really get the true feel of the height of the set. Looks like Chiara has found herself a friend. (Don't worry, I have it on good authority she took her back to her apartment. The landlord loves cats.) That is the Millennium Cat.
For Chiara's outfit, I used The Fabricator and put a pattern on her pants, then darkened it. I put pants with the Dungarees to test it and I like it. (And of course a shirt under it makes it family friendly, even from the side.)

Clown is an outfit to turn any genesis character into a clown. It is bright and cheerful and includes hat, gloves, bodysuit and red bulby nose. There are no actually clown makeup faces included, so if you want an authentic clown you may have to make your own makeup or look into premade skins like: Sad Clown Theo (Which includes a really nice M4 elder skin. Yes, I know Clown is a departure from my usual SCi-fI stuff, but there actually is a SCi-fi tie-in. SARGE has a thing about Clowns, so yes on his next shore leave, I think I may surprise him with a little something. Because you know how much Sarge likes surprises. Right?
....Oh come on Sarge, you knows this hurts me more than it's gonna hurt you. Really.
The good thing, is that as much as Sarge may fear clowns this set is pretty neat set. It is easy to use and style. It goes well with gen 4 set Carnival Performer Poses, which if you are a pc member is only 2 bucks.

That older man looking at the clown cracks me up! It's like, "REALLY? Must you do that here?" The backgrrounds on both of those are nice- what's the second one?
Yeah, He is funny. I originally had the clown alone, but he needed a reluctant spectator.
The background is a picture of a carnival from Morguefile. What I did was apply it to a plane, so when I applied depth of field it would blur in the background and look less like a real photo and more blend into the render. When used just straight the image is too sharp.
Village courtyard is a nice set. Looks like Chiara and cat are enjoying themselves there!
Thanks. Here's the UberEnvironment 2 setup with some blue, some pink distant lights so folks can compare each one in the same scene. (Some shots are obvious, look at the walls.)
This set is huge. Later tonight I will try to do some closeups. Tomorrow I may experiment with bump.
The forums are as usual acting up. Saying "Unable to receive your submission at this time" yet posting them. Stating they exceed 2000 pixels when they are 2000. Only letting me do one at a time. So here's another one (I HOPE), and then may shrink the others.
Another one. EDIT: Skull Cove Island skydome/light setup with a few tweaks. (The pink light for instance, side by side with the blue so you can compare daylight and what sunset might look like.)

What can I say? The character is handsome and is wonderfully designed. This figure has tons of nice options and a beautiful skin, and looks great in your sci-fi renders. He is shockingly easy to light and has a number of really nice morphs!
He is M5, and is DSON, so when M6 comes out, the skin should work excellently.

Easy Environments: The Rock

Am rendering Mantiraptor- and I will emphatically state this is one of the BEST creatures I have ever posed. It glides like silk. Highly highly highly recommend. No jerky movements, very easy to pose, comes WITH a lot of poses, and the expansion pack has nice textures. It's a bit hard to tell what they are from the tiny drawings though- I used the Sand Stripes- would you think of red? But it is.
So here's what I did and will render later after I fiddle more with the lights- I combined Mantiraptor, Palenque Ruins, and Easy Environments- The Rock all together. The Palenque Ruins load beautifully onto the rock- you will have a temple coming out of the Rock with stairs leading up to it! REALLY COOL. Load them both up, and they are already in place!!!! (talk about kit bashing.)
If you haven't gotten Easy Environments: The Rock, consider that you can load other sets ONTO it. Palenque Ruins is neat! Oh, and did I forget to mention it's $1.99 for PC members?
Because some of you are shopping today, I will go ahead and post a quickie render for you. :) I normally would use depth of field but if I do that you wouldn't see the details of how these two go together which defeats the purpose. So keep in mind the background looks fake because it's not "blended in."
What do you think? I think these two go WONDERFULLY together with almost the same textures. It looks like the temple was built from the rocks there.
As this render came in, I had to giggle. The Mantiraptor is waiting for that dude in the rowboat (comes with the Rock) to come up the cliff. YUMMY. NOTE HE HAS A PINK SPOTLIGHT ON HIM, but the bands are still reddish. This is using the Expansion Pack that has additional materials.

Thanks for the mantiraptor review. I may have to get him! I had him on the wishlist before but was concerned about his mats! But those look nice. I like him at the temple!
And heads up, Easy Shadows is also involved in this sale. (The one I did BRC Empathy tomb spattered with shadows from the tree, remember?) REVIEW: VERY easy to use, you click and the plane attaches to your camera, then select which gel light you want to use and click again, and its on the plane. Took me three minutes to figure it out. Then you move the plane independently of the camera to put the splotches/blobs/whatever you want in front of the camera.
http://www.daz3d.com/mantiraptor-expansion-pack is the textures for the Mantiraptor. I'm including renders of our pal with the Jungle stripes/wings/spikes and the original with wings/spikes. There's also an Arctic, and a gray.
That flap of skin (the wings) have options too- I kept the red. You can have spotted, etc. Very nice!
One thing to note- find the expansion pack under the Poser Formats>Poses. The Mantiraptor will be under Figures.
Sometimes things can be hard to find. The Searches are awful in DS. They rarely show up my products. So... Even if DAZ doesn't have ReadMe's on their site, you know they might exist right? If you go to your directory (say C>User>YourName>Daz3d>MyLibrary- AND TYPE IN THE NAME OF THE PRODUCT UP IN YOUR SEARCH BOX- the ReadMes will show up if there is one. (That's the fastest way to find them if not online. Online you have to know the SKU number before you go to that section. So this is faster.) The ReadMe will then quickly tell you where to go (I use Content Library) to find your products. That's just what works fastest for me.
EDIT: First and second image is the same materials, just have the wings and spikes added on the second one. The third one is the "Jungle" striping. This is all "out of the box" without any tweaking. Slick!
I love the mantiraptor I also like the ROCK in the background. The water looks good. Wasn't sure I'd like the Rock, but the ocean looks very nice great work!

I've had this adorable set on my wishlist for sometime. It is intended for K4 and Millennium puppy but you can easily use Genesis 2 with growing up morphs, you just need to do some minor adjustments such as the fingers. Better yet, this is a couple pose set, so you have 15 adorable kid & Dog pics to choose from..

I'm working on a weird combination- and it's got a dog in it too, in a car. Great minds think alike, lol. Worked on it all day, still not anywhere near done. Will be gone tomorrow too, but may have time to work on it.
