The Doctor Appreciation thread has just started. It is like the Dalek Appreciation thread but for the Doctor instead.
Let the renders begin.

(does anyone know of any Doctor morphs for M4 or Genesis?)

I think there may have been a couple of Who morphs for M4 & V4 in the old forums.
Perhaps, when (if?) the forums get sorted out someone will go through them & post new links over here.

My render of the 8th Doctor with his companion Lucie Miller (a companion from the Big Finish range of audios) in the TARDIS..

Now, is this thread for Doctor Who in general, all aspects of the entertaiment property?

Or is it specifically for material and discussion about the titular character, the Doctor, specifically?

    Sincerely

    Bill

At this point in time I would say that this thread can be whatever we want it to be.

So let's make it about all aspects of Doctor Who.
Of course nobody will see this thread until DAZ gets the forums sorted out so that a new post bumps the thread to the first page.

    Something I'm working on.

At the moment it's just a static prop, but I'm going to try & turn it into my first character.
It will be released as a freebie when finished.

Waiting for the DVD to turn up so I can finalise the details.

    Interesting! A Kroton!

I never noticed they were legless like the Daleks. Seems the series tried to repeat the success of the Pepperpots by creating other robotic adversaries...the Krotons, the Quarks, the Mechanoids, the Chumblies. Old time viewers and "serious" fans remember these other attempts, but they just didn't have the staying power of the Daleks.

Decided to pull out Imrie's TARDIS and my Bruce Forsythe Doctor (intended to resemble Peter Cushing's version, but various people said it looked like another well known British celebrity). While puttering with it, I had an idea. I plugged the police bos "banners" into the ambient channel to make them appear illuminated. By themselves, the whle surface area glowed, not really what I wanted. But by bridging the connection with a subtractive math node, the blue darkened to black and allowed only the letters to glow. I'm rather pleased with the final effect

    Sincerely,

    Bill

I just couldn't post for several weeks. I'd try, but when I clicked the submit button, the screen would prompt me for my user-name and password. When I entered them, I'd get another screen claiming either my user-name or password were invalid.

I finally discovered yesterday the forum was not cooperating with FireFox, but accepted the entry using Internet Explorer. I had switch to FF when I noticed the store catagory selections were overlapping in IE. FireFox properly spaced them. But for whayever reason, it would NOT work with the forums.

That's also why you never got a reply to that private message; I tried to answer under FireFox.

    Anyway, I'm here now.

    Sincerely,

    Bill

    Just messing about...

Is this the real cause of the Sixth Doctor's regeneration - Did Mel wear him out?
It might also explain why, a couple of adventures later, he lets Mel leave with Sabalom Glitz (a conman, thief & grifter who sold his crew into slavery a few hours earlier) without any arguement.

Whoa! That latest one with that chamber looks VERY impressive! I imagine it "sounding" like a cross between the domes chamber from 1978's Superman (when Jor-El passes judgement upon Zod and his traitors) and the inner sanctum of V'Ger (without the goofy "duck calls").

Funny how we can depict images upon affordable machines the "classic" series could only imagine.

I aslo like your Movellans. Like like we had similar core ideas, using the ShadowDancer tunic and the wig from that M3 ensemble. Though I opted for the KungFu Gal (sadly, no longer available) loincloth and a free simple belt (originally meant for V1/2) which helps makes the tunic and loincloth appear a continuous piece. I recently found some free Egyptian mascara in .PSD format to better capture the distinctive Movellan "look". Last night I added a procedural "weave" node to the wig, seeing it I could capture that "corn rowed" design.

But I see you've modeled all the accessories including the "light-stick" shoulder pieces, the hand covering sidearm and the belt mounted power cell (one of the lamest Achilles' Heels ever concocted).

    Sincerely,

    Bill

Thanks Bill. I remembered your Movellans from the old forum & wanted to recreate them myself, but at the time I didn't have the hair.
Just bought it the other day when the Platinumn Club preview started. As you pointed out, I need a better belt to cover the belly gap.

The belt tube & shoulder tubes are very quickly & simply modelled (couple of tubes & boxes) & smart propped to the figures hip & shoulders. The blaster is still a work in progress & will be released when finished.

You guys have both made superb looking Movellans there. Top stuff.

    Thanks, Sam!

The idea behind the Movellans and their execution may not have been the best, but I've always appreciated the costume design. BTW, it still makes me snicker remembering the scene in which the Doctor discovered their weakness. Oh, just removing the "flashlight casings" is funny enough, but I'm thinking of the moment when the Doctor confirms his suspicions. After the "female" Movellan with the African features collapses, the Doctor rips open her tunic (Whoa, Romana holding out on ya', Doctor?) to reveal a transparent chest-plate. Except, her "skin" is now Caucasian and her bustline vanished!

I think the BBC accepted backstory is that the Movellans are just another collection of robots that turned upon their builders. But since it has yet to be "confirmed" in an actual episode, I have a different thought, just a little bit of a spin. Rather than turning on their masters, the Daleks exterminate that race. But before they are wiped out, they program humanoid robots to defeat the Daleks. Though they fail to save their builders, they are still driven by their primary directive. Eventually, they come to the conclusion they can only thwart the Daleks by subjegating other species before the Daleks get the chance. This gives reason why they'd employ a doomsday weapon that would kill everyone on Skaro , not just Daleks. The death of humans and other sapient races is just considered "acceptable losses".

    Sincerely,

    Bill

Yes, very sad news. Mary's Romana was my second favourite of the Doctor's companions, after Sarah Jane Smith. A very elegant lady.

I have a number of modelling projects sitting on my hard drive that I have begun, but for one reason or another (usually my work) I have never finished.
I have decided to try & finish them - starting with this - The Lodger 'Tardis'

I will post updates as & when I have them.

I always figured the Movellans would revert to a secondary purpose and hire themselves out for lawn care once the daleks were defeated.
