I'm just wondering because the potential for amazing artwork has never been more available, but there seems to be a shortage of long-form stories to back it up. Single renders? There are thousands. Hundreds of thousands. But animated features or graphic novels? There isn't much to choose from. I would love to find some collaborators to work on some story projects. Has anyone ever been involved with anything like this? Maybe I just don't know where to look to find poser/daz animations that are full stories.

http://www.daz3d.com/hairtexturingkit

because I wanted to try my hand at painting with some special brushes. When I unzip the file, there is a document called Manifest.dsx and one called Supplement.dsx. So what program do you need to open them?

And in a folder, there files in a preset folder. There are 39 hair texture jpgs, a photoshop file and an abr file.

So are you really suppose to put all these files in the preset folder for Photoshop?

From the product page, I think the photoshop file .psd allows you some how to use the package with Paintshop Pro. I think I read that on the product page.

But how do you use the textures? Do you use them somehow to paint the hair? Maybe select colors from them and then paint?

Thanks.

Depending on how I do with this, I'll probably buy some of Ron's brushes. But I wanted to be sure that I would use them. Do his brushes come with instructions? Or a tutorial perhaps?

For example, some products, especially utility programs sometime require very little, or sometimes quite a bit of extra steps, to make things work. I would like to know just how complicated these steps are prior to purchasing.

Renderosity, to their credit, has always made these Readme.txt files available on the product page, so I don't see why DAZ has so far resisted doing this.

If you agree with me please add your name to this request to get DAZ to make these files available.

Attempts to install the package through DIM results in an "Install Failed" because of an ampersand(&) in the folder structure,

When installed, the DIM package is set up wrong so it adds an additional "My Library" folder to the Daz Content library (essentially creating ...\My Library\My Library) upon install,

The product comes up blank (no assets) in the Products in the Content Library and an attempt to open the Content Database Editor to check the product gives an error "You must select a container that contains assets, within the Content Library pane, in order to use this utility"). I noticed that there are no Support files (*.dsx) for these products in the Support folder as well.

I've tried deleting and redownloading the packages to make sure that I didn't have old or corrupted packages but still the same problem. I even reset my database and reimported everything to make sure my database wasn't corrupt on the products that show blank when installing. Are others having issues with the Unicorns and the Content Library? Also, would it be better to enter tickets for each problem DIM package (so 18 tickets) or lump them into 1 ticket for each of the 3 types of issues.

I'm looking to uninstall all my old DAZ Content files, and re-installing them through the DAZ 3D Install Manager. I have already done this with the Genesis Starter Essentials, and I was able to set the path for the start up auto-load of the Genesis figure. Still all the related files won't work from the Smart Content Directory, as DAZ Studio tells me the Files do not exist; however if I go to My DAZ 3D Library and navigate to the same files, they load with no problems.

Now I know there must be a way to fix this without having to reset the path for each individual item. As I have never done anything of this nature before now, I would appreciate some knowledge telling me how to set the path for all of the files that have Meta Data all at the same time. The path I am using is C;/Users/Public/Public Documents/My DAZ 3D Library. For the old files that have Meta Data to show in the Smart Content after re-installing them to the new path through the DIM, DAZ Studio needs to be told where to look for them. There must be a way to do this so that all subsequent installations will automatically be in the Smart Content Directory.

The reason I want to do this is because the new way the Smart Content works is a lot better than it used to be, and the recent release of a user's guide has made clear how to use it.

Please understand that I do not want advice telling me another way to do this, or advisement not to use the Smart Content Directory. I just want simple and accurate instruction on how to get DAZ Studio to recognize the Meta Data and show the files in that Directory. You may post your views if you wish, but I reserve the right to follow the advice I deem useful for what I wish to do.

Thank you,
Stay Awesome!

I've been pretty confused these past couple of days with all of the overlapping discounts and it's definitely hit a head with the release of Rune 7. Namely, which discounts are supposed to stack and which aren't?

For instance, Bobbie25 and Sarsa were stacking yesterday, but not today. Nikisatez wasn't stacking with Sarsa but stacks with Ozichick, and surprisingly with esha's flash sale (a single item I believe).

I'm not asking for more discounts. Rather, prices are all over the place and half the time I'm not sure if I'm getting the right price for my orders. Moving forward, is there any way we can have more clarity as to what is supposed to stack and not stack?

Thanks :)

RRRR Story render contest.

OK, I've decided to bring back an old favorite, the Story RRRR. It was over two years since we did this one, and Luci asked for it in the last contest as well.
New players, read the rules, old players, do the same, as this is not only a little different, but very different from the past RRRR contests.
Also, I have an idea, the winner of the Funniest category, or in this case the Story category, will be allowed to suggest ideas for the next RRRR. I'm not saying that I will use the suggestion, but I might, depending on how good it is.

Rules of RRRR Story render contest

Who can play?
Anyone can play!

How do you prepare yourself for play?
The rules are very simple, but first you need to have all your items in some kind of order in a text file, dumped from the itemized history into a text file or a spread sheet. Remove things like software, gift certs, and special plugins from the list.
Then you use a randomizer to randomly pick items from your list (your Runtime/My Library) for your start pull . You can use items from any store.

Randomizer that works well:
Random Org
Randomizer where you get all numbers in one draw: random

There are some situations where you allowed to redraw, these are:

- You picked something that doesn’t work, broken thing, only works in a version / software not used etc etc.
- You picked a software or add-on to a software or anything you should have filtered out from the list.
- You picked only huge environment props and will not be able to render a scene without crashing.
- You picked an item you already have been using in two RRRR renders in this content and that was picked randomly. Three is a curse - rule!

Lucky Bastard Rule!
If you have sticky lucky bastards, you pull one extra item for each LB you have, simple as that.

Current Lucky Bastard standing

Name

Current LBs

Gopherus

4

purrkat

2

barbult

2

Karibou

2

luci45

1

MelanieL

1

Totte

1

How this round is played
You pull eight items, yes, you heard me, eight items. But the usage of these items are a little special, as you are now supposed to create a story with three images and a story to go with them. You have to use every pulled item at least once, in any of the three images, and you have to use at least two pulled items in any single image. I say it again, Every items has to be used, no less than two items in any of the three images.

You can post your images in this thread as you make them, but the entry should be post as one post with the story, see the example in the Entries only thread

Bundles
If you pull a bundle, use two three complete items from it, or more if you like, but you do not need to use all, but only picking a hairpin from V4 Complete Bundle is “too little”. Clarification: A bundle still counts as only one pulled item.

Poses, Expressions and textures/colors
If you pull a pose pack, an expression pack or a texture/color pack, you only need to use one of them, not all. For example if you pull 500 expressions for V4, use one, if you pull 128 colors for Frappe Hair, use one.

The rules of madness!
Now you have successfully and randomly picked your items, make a scene, you can add other items as well but the one you picked should be prominent or cleverly used. Render it, post it and make us all laugh! Remember though that the renders must follow the TOS of the forum. As we have a theme on the contest, the render should in some way touch that theme.

The contest categories!
There are two categories, different this time though, Best and Story. For the best category, each image will be participating "on it's own", while in the Story category, the story as whole with the images is what will be voted on.

Contest duration!
It stats now at April 8 2016, and will go on until Sunday May 15 at 23:59:59 local DAZ time.

Yes, we have prizes, thanks to our sponsors!
This months sponsors so far:

Totte is sponsoring with one item in each tier from his store
Dumor3D is sponsoring with one item in each tier from his store.
Linwelly is sponsoring with a $5 DAZ GC in the Story category.
Luci45 is sponsoring with a $25 DAZ GC.
barbult is sponsoring with a $20 DAZ GC.
Karibou is sponsoring with a $20 DAZ GC.
Ken OBanion, RRRRs own protective saint, has put in his usual $100 DAZ GC to the pot.

More to know?
I will edit this when new info on sponsors arrive.

Maximum number of entries?
As every story consists of three images, we limit the number of entries, i.e. complete stories to five. The voting will be a little different to, as we will vote for Best on a per image basis, but for the Story on the whole story block.

Are you ready to render in 3….2….1…..go!

Entries!
Post your entries here together with your pull and your comments, and feel free to comment on other peoples work as well.
We post images in the Entries only thread with tag and name, see the first post for instructions. It is important that the posting rules are followed to make the setup for voting as smooth as possible.
We also post the entries in this thread with a full list of the randomly picked items and also, which is a free choice, other used items.

Now I know the 980M is less powerful than the desktop GTX 980, but would it ourrun (for iRay purposes) a GTX 970, which is the card I have in my current desktop? I rarely play games, so I am only concerned with the iRay performance.

To my credit I did contact the creators privately willing to pay for that but have gotten no response. I've played with doing it myself but I'm horrible at it. Just horrible.

See, I need to be able to morph them. A lot. A lot more than legacy rigging allows.

Now I *did* manage to get Aiko Toon 4 and a self brougth in morph of AT3 into my G1 figure. But poor Hiro Toon....

Voting time!

The fantastic RRRR Story Render Contest is over, and it's time to browse those wonderful stories and vote for your favorites. Also, vote for the best of ther best among the individual images.
Anyone can vote, not only those participating in the actual contest. This time teh voting is a little special. We still have two tiers, but they are now named Story and Image, which is what they are all about.
The Story category is about the story and how it's presented visually and in text, while Image is more traditional about the individual image.

Each win (1st to 3rd place) will also give the winner at least one sticky Lucky Bastard pull, which means the next round will be a little harder, see below for how wins and Lucky Bastards are counted.

So, what are we voting about?
What are the prizes?

Winner in either category
- One item from Totte's store.
- $35 DAZ Store GC

Second place in either category:
- One item from Dumor3D's store.
- $20 DAZ Store GC

Third place in either category:
- $15 DAZ Store GC

Fourth place in either category:
- $10 DAZ Store GC

Fifth place in either category:
- $5 DAZ Store GC

The voting starts now, and ends Sunday, June 5, at 23:59:59 DAZ local time.

How votes are tallied and summed up:

Voting points: 1st = 5 points, 2nd = 4 points, 3rd = 3 Points, 4th = 2 Points and Tiebreaker = 1 Point.

If an entry gets 1st, two 2nd, one 4th and two tiebreakers in a category, that is 5 + 2x4 + 2 + 2x1 = 17 Points

Every enrties points per category is summed up, and top three is calcutaled in each category. As we now have five prizes, a maximum of two entries from the same artist can end up top three in each category, this is to spead the joy a little more.

The image with most points from the same artist will be the base, the the average score for up to for other images will be added to that score, but if that image takes a top three placement, images who got to the cream of the crop with help from other entires, will gain extra LBs based on how many places it climbed, minus one. Here are two examples:

Example 1: The top image from X has 15 points. X also has five other images that has been voted for, 10, 8, 7, 7 & 5 points. Thaking the average of the first four images behind the top one is 10+8+7+7 = 8, so the first image which was at 4th place, now gets 23 points and rises to the top and becomes the winner. But, that image climbed 3 steps, so it will not only win, but give the winner 3 LB for the next run.

Example 2: The top image by Y has 11 points, and the second image 9 points. The top image will now have 20 points and go from 5th place to 3rd place, granting Y 2 LB for the next run.

If two images ends up with the same score, we use the same rules as in the European Song Contest, the number of higher scores wins over many lower scores, so if one image has 5+5+5+1 (16) and another has 2+2+4+4+2 (16) the first one will come before.

To avoid votespamming, anyone voting needs to post here in this thead that they did vote, and use the same name as they have posting here as the DAZ Forum Name in the first question in the vote system at SurveyMonkey.
