I currently have a system with 2 x NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980 Ti and am suffering from some pretty annoying render times on some scenes (up to 2.5 hours) and would like to get that down. So am considering the natural progression of putting in 2 x NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080i Ti.

I have two questions on this:
(a) I assume people have done this here, roughly what kind of realistic render improvement are we looking at?
(b) There appear to be lots of different types of 1080Ti cards out there, does anyone have any recommendations or are they pretty much all the same?

Other system stuff if needed:
Overclocked Intel i7-5820K Processor
Asus X99-A Motherboard
64Gb Ram
2 TB HDD, 7200 / 480 GB SSD

Thanks

I was hoping someone could give me advice on a problem that has came up in the last week. Some of my figures have white spots on them after I render them.

The above picture is one I did today. The below one is from a couple months ago. I don't know of any changes that I have made ( at least not on purpose) with the daz program.

Any ideas on what caused this or how to fix it? Thanks for any help.

What's up everyone I was wondering if it's okay to use poses mainly DAZ Original poses as a starting point for animations that will be exported to a game engine? For anyone who wants to know what I mean by starting point I'm basically referring to the 1st frame of an animation I want to make in iClone. The way I see it vendors who allow their models to exported into a game engine shouldn't have a problem with their poses on the DAZ3d store to be used for making animations for games instead of being isolated to renders all of the time which frustates the hell out of me lol.

Ideally, if a character was wearing glasses the screen would be reflected in the lenses.

I've seen it done, most likely in a Poser render, but I don't know how to accomplish it in DS (with iRay).

----Quickie edit/afterthought: I should mention that I've tried several emissive shaders, which light up the screen OK but blot out the image (i.e. the custom texture).

[This thread was originally named installed Fit Control for Genesis 3 Male(s) and the scripts seem to be Orphaned Reference, but I have now renamed it to be more accurate to what's actually going on.]

Okay, a couple days ago I bought Fit Control for Genesis 3 Male(s) and let the Daz Install app install it. Today I went to use fit control on a character and clothes and I could not find the script anywhere in the system. It does not appear when I go to DAZ Studio Formats > Scripts, or anywhere else that I can drill down to a Scripts folder in Content Library. Finally in exasperation I pluigged "fit" into the Search field and the Fit Control Genesis 3 stuff showed up... each of the asset icons showing an empty-picture-frame having an exclamation-point triangle in it, with another exclamation-point triangle on the lower left of the asset icon. It looks as if the product didn't install right. oO

What am I doing wrong? Oo

edit: Actually, it looks like assets from the recently installed Lee 6 Starter Bundle are also orphaned.

edit2: In fact, it looks like nothing I purchased form June 29th onwards got installed right. I see a bunch of ZIP and DSX files sitting in the root of my My DAZ 3D LIbrary folder, but none of those zips seem to have actually gotten unpacked.

edit3: Yeah, it appears every Daz3D product I bought from June 29 onward has a zip and dsx file with it in there, none of which seem to have been unpacked into te actual runtime folders and related, this is even though I have Install After Download checkboxed in Install Manager. I have made no changes in any sittings in recent weeks (well other than I just moments ago noticed I'd not checkboxed Poser < 8 in the available programs) so dunno why it stopped doing this. I assume I can just MANUALLY unpack each of the zips, but what do I do then with the zips and dsx files afterwards? Delete them? Move them to another folder?

Optitex Dynamic Cloth - Can Animate Lite Be Used With Drape?

I'm starting this topic for the purposes of learning what can be done with Optitex Dynamic Cloth. I want to do a short animation of a girl shaking her hips in a dynamic clothing flared skirt. I know that the first 15 frames need to be for the initial drape of the skirt, but after that, I want to have a short dance sequence that would be animated as a clip showing how the skirt reacts to the girl shaking her hips. So I would like to know if it is possible to do that. Also I would like to know what, the sequence would need to be if any special steps need to be added.

1. Would I have to switch from the Drape simulation to the Animate Lite timeline, or can the whole simulation be done using Animate Lite as the Drape and Animation timeline?

2. If I have to switch from the Drape Timeline to the Animate Lite Timeline, do I do this after the initial Drape simulation is completed, and then set up my dance sequence?

3. Will it even work at all?

I really do hope to learn a way to do this. While I do have Poser, it is not my main application for my art, and I don't like how the Genesis and Genesis 2 figures work in Poser. I want to use a Genesis 2 Female Character for my animation. So since I have gotten into using the Optitex Dynamic Cloth plugin for DAZ Studio, I want the animation made in that program.

Please let me know the answers to these questions, and if you can, provide a srep by step instructional on how to do this. I figure there are others of us looking to learn this type of thing as well, so any information provided will be much appreciated, not just by me, but by others that wish to learn also.

Thank you.

Hi.

I hope this is the right location for this post.

I got me a character which I really like the look of. I did her face in facegen pro. Its about 95 percent what I had in mind. But for the life of me I can't get her to look anything like it when rendered.

I'm a noob at this. Still learning lighting and rendering which are huge subjects.

I've tried washing out the face more with intense lighting but that doesn't work. It still looks matted and plasticy. So I tried with the lighting and surface textures but again, big ole noob and frankly most of the time those setting don't seem to do anything to help.

I'm going for a specific look. Kinda human, kinda comic booky with bold colors and not a lot of intricate detail. I'm using both gen 2 and gen 3 models because the movement poses I want don't work with Gen 3 even with the converter script. And the expression poses I want don't work with gen 2. Plus homegirl looks better in gen 3 close up. But why bother if the look I get is totally wrong?

Oh, and I'm really stupid. So please consider that when detailing any solutions.

I thought this is done with Bake to Transforms Shift+B. I select the root node of the Genesis 2 figure and let all settings at the default state in the dialogue Nodes: Root / Propagation: Recursive / Property Path: Pose Cotrols / Property Type: Modifier Pose... Visible Sub-Components only - I all off these setings make sense to me.

But unfortunately the only thing that happens is - the figure pose gets reset to default T-pose. I also tryed the Morphforms to Transforms script that comes with DazStudio in the Utilitis folder and this does the same reset to default T-pose.

I dont understand why this is happening - I must confess its the first time I want to use that funktion but I understand what it should do - let me save my pose preset with real bone rotations and all Pose Control property values at zero.

BTW before you ask - as always I'm using the as far as I konw latest version of DS 4.9.3.166 x64 - Any suggestions will be wellcome.

Different Perspectives in IRay

I've noticed sometimes when rendering in IRay that the apparent size of objects is different. Items will appear larger render than unrendered. A lot of the time they seem wider. It's a matter of perspective. Sometimes I can just go in and change one of the scale dials on the item(s) other times I can't. Some I can parent to a Null in the scene and change the one scale dial. Other objects, figures in particular, can become distorted and twisted trying to do that.

I'm wondering if there is something I can do to the Camera settings to help with this.

Saving Characters as Scene Subsets: Some file sizes are humongous. Problem solved!

I'm creating a cast of characters for a story project I've been contemplating, and saving them as scene subsets: hair, materials, etc. I can't believe the variation I'm seeing in .duf file sizes—anywhere from 1.5 mb to over 600—and I don't know what's causing the bloat or how to reduce it.

Most are G3 figures with assorted face and body morphs from various packages, which I'm sure is bound to cause some bloat. Some have pretty heavyweight hairs—lots of curls, lots of shaping options—which is bound to add more.

One or two have fibre eyebrows and p*bic hair (take that, crappy forum search engine! ) and my render times tell me they're a heavy load.

Still, does 600 mb seem reasonable for an unclothed character? I plan to add clothes to at least a few of them, and I shudder to think what that will do to the file size.

If there's a way to reduce this, or something I've been doing wrong, I'd sure appreciate knowing about it. I've been avoiding file compression, more or less on principle, but I may have to resort to it.

The Genesis and Genesis 2 characters are not experiencing this problem. I don't know what's wrong lol.

How to clean up messy TinkerCAD mesh for use in Daz Studio.

I made an .obj model in TnkerCAD.

I imported it to Daz Studio.

The mesh has noticeable imperfections. What should be a single continuous face got broken up into many triangle faces that aren’t really co-planar, and show up in imaging.

How can this be fixed?

Here’s what I tried so far:

1. Add a level of sub-surface resolution to the model. I googled how to add a sub-surface to a model, and attempted to do it. But that option was grayed out for my model. Apparently, TinkerCAD models cannot get a sub-surface attribute in DAZ.

2. Clean up the mesh in Blender. Blender has mesh clean-up tools, but I don’t know which to use. And, more importantly, I don’t know which settings to use in Blender to both import and export my model so the results can be used in DAZ. There are so many check-boxes and so on in Blender’s import/export dialog windows, and I’m a nubie who doesn’t know what all those settings mean.

Perhaps also, Blender might be able to modify the model to give it whatever properties it needs to allow DAZ Studio to give it a sub-surface. But again, I don’t know how to do that.

Can anyone point me to a nice step-by-step tutorial on this issue?

Sometimes when I buy a new model from Daz3D and do a basic render it looks like the store image, which is good.

But some models, then render looks nothing like the store image.

Take Vicoria 7 as an example, here is a basic render (attached)

her skin is tanned, but in the store image it is pinkish white.

An even better example is Paloma

http://www.daz3d.com/fwsa-paloma-hd-for-victoria-7

In my render she is dark skinned, almost black

but in the store image she is tanned.

Is there some magic render setting I am missing?

Collision iterations and render time?

Recently through trial and error with render setting I've noticed the purpose of collision iterations. I really like the Sporty Ponytail hairstyle, but I've noticed the hair deforms when you change the model's expression.

Then I realized the problem is resolved when I increase the collision iterations and it works great! My only question is, does render time increase when you increase the collision iterations? I think my renders have been taking MUCH longer after changing that value and I can't seem to find an answer anywhere on the web about this.

Answers greatly appreciated! :D
