      <description><![CDATA[<p>So... I do lots of things and every so often I re-pick up DAZ3d and start working&nbsp;on stuff again. Well, I guess it&#39;s been a little over a year according to my last saved image... but...</p>

<p>WTH HAPPENED? Nothing seems to work right *full panic mode incoming* OMG the renders take over twenty minutes instead of 10 seconds? What&#39;s an LRay? Is that like God Rays? I don&#39;t use lightning! We&#39;re on V8 now? And Genesis 3? I swear I didn&#39;t think I needed to upgrade! I have a bunch of V4 M3 stuff and I don&#39;t want to lose it! Was Genesis really that important? What colour is an orange? Why does scorpio light beams only work when parented to a Gen character? Don&#39;t they have their own .obj files? I bought the sumo ring and the Mysterious tomb and both do take an ungodly amount of time to render to the point where I simply wont use them. Level 19? Dark Fantasy weapons? V6 string bikini? I-I Didn&#39;t buy these! I swear to god I&#39;m not a thief! Take them back, take them baaaaaack!!!</p>

<p>Also, hi! Haven&#39;t used these forums in a couple years so... yes I&#39;m &quot;returning&quot; but no, I don&#39;t remember anyone :)</p>

<p><strong>1. V4 transition&nbsp;V8/Gen3</strong>&nbsp;: I guess I need to start this transition, as much as I detest the thought of it. I hate the idea that I&#39;m losing all the old outfits and gear for kitbashing and need to start over. Someone told me I could reset my V4 gear for V6-8 or G3? Is that true? How do I do that?</p>

<p><strong>2.</strong>&nbsp;<strong>Why do some renders take 20 minutes?</strong>&nbsp; As an example <a href="https://www.daz3d.com/mysterious-tomb&amp;nbsp" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">https://www.daz3d.com/mysterious-tomb&amp;nbsp</a>; &nbsp;takes around 20 minutes to render&nbsp;properly. It seems to make things FAR overly complicated compared to, say, the old generation and Half-Life&nbsp; inspired&nbsp;<a href="https://www.daz3d.com/industry-one" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">https://www.daz3d.com/industry-one</a> which takes about 10-15 seconds.</p>

<p><strong>3.</strong>&nbsp;<strong>What colour is an orange</strong><strong>?</strong>&nbsp; &nbsp;This plays into the above as I&#39;ve noticed (distressingly so) that my edit tab where I change colours and add layers to opacity or new &quot;skins&quot; to items and people have CHANGED. No longer my friendly Opacity, Spec, A, and D&nbsp;options I&#39;ve got a SLEW of new sliders, none of which seem to cause a positive effect. Really terrible is the&nbsp;<a href="https://www.daz3d.com/sunstone-chamber" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">https://www.daz3d.com/sunstone-chamber</a> which, while allowing for fast renders which I&#39;m thankful for... comes with these new, twisted and strange options. The Fire you see in the example pics above always comes out BLACK for me. I&#39;ve taken my time, selected each piece of fire and each different slider, one at a time, and I cannot get the fire to match it&#39;s painted, natural colour.</p>

<p><strong>4.</strong>&nbsp;<strong>Seorpio</strong>&nbsp;: <a href="https://www.daz3d.com/soldiers-of-magic-serpio" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">https://www.daz3d.com/soldiers-of-magic-serpio</a> Does anyone use this? I&#39;ve fought with it off and on and finally gave up. It looks like it&#39;ll be amazing but short of me loading an invisable Genesis character and attachin gthe lightning to that character I can&#39;t come up with any idea that might make this work.</p>

<p><strong>5. Platinum Club Member</strong>&nbsp;: Apparently I am one... but I don&#39;t remember joining this club (It costs extra and I&#39;m not known for whimisical join-the-club purchases). Can anyone point me in the direction of finding out what this is, does, and what benefits I should have been getting for the last 5 years?</p>

<p><strong>6.&nbsp;</strong><a href="https://www.daz3d.com/poser-format-exporter-pfe" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">https://www.daz3d.com/poser-format-exporter-pfe</a><strong>&nbsp;</strong>: Anyone use this who can point me towards a tutorial? This would be super cool and get me started doing poses even if it&#39;s older model stuff.</p>

<p>I have thousands of questions I&#39;m sure but for now I&#39;ll leave it here. I&#39;m Pacific time but I work graveyard so I&#39;d be checking the forums between 8pm Pacific up to 11am Pacific.</p>

      <title>Trouble trying to edit a PP2 file</title>

      <description><![CDATA[<p>Okay, I just tried to alter a messed up file path in a PP2 file via Notepade++ and it would not let me alter the line at all.&nbsp; I got down to the line that had the wrong path in it, went to delete and rework the line, looked up and realised nothing at all had changed.&nbsp; It wasn&#39;t taking any of my keypresses other than to move the cursor around or to hightlight something.&nbsp; After banging my head against this one for a few moments, I decided to try editting it in LibreOffice instead, after having renamed a copy of the PP2 file to now have .DOC appended to the end.&nbsp; It then notified me the document was in read-only mode.&nbsp; What the...?!?&nbsp; It had an Edit Document button, though, and once I clicked that, LibreOffice&nbsp;went through some bit of time where it seemed to be reloading the document again one line at a time, then I was able to get down to the line I needed to change, and went to save the document out.... and it presented me with a completely different folder on the same drive, where I&#39;d been editting an unrelated text file some weeks ago, wanting to save the document THERE.&nbsp; And when I then told it to save, it told me it couldn&#39;t save it in the format it originated in and wanted to save it in its own format.&nbsp; <em>This is a pure text file, why is it trying to save it in a different format?!?</em></p>

<p>So, two unrelated questions:&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p>Why would a PP2 file be treated as read-only mode?&nbsp; (The drive and the folder are not read-only, and I can readily copy files around in that folder and rename them.)</p>

<p>Why does LibreOffice sometimes want to save a document out to the folder I previously loaded and saved something from on an unrelated session, other than the folder I opened the current file in this time?&nbsp; This is exasperating.&nbsp; I wind up having to manually move the dadgum file from the other folder into the one its meant to be in.&nbsp; oO</p>

      <description><![CDATA[<p>I&#39;m working on an iMac Pro. Based on a DAZ tutorial, I should have Studio set to my GPU. But, when I look in the settings, I do not see my GPU listed. Is this something I cannot access in the Mac version of DAZ Studio?</p>

<p>If not, is there a workaround?</p>

      <title>[SOLVED] Memory errors remain after buying brand new GPU (GTX 1080Ti-11GB)</title>

<p><span>Daz crashed all the time during rendering with memory errors in the log file. I </span>thought it was because I reached the memory limit with my older GPU.<span> </span>I&#39;m aware of possible memory leaks after a couple of renders. But even after a clean start, Daz crashed while rendering. So I decided to buy a complete new PC with 16GB of RAM and a GTX 1080Ti and 11GB of VRAM.</p>

<p>To my suprise the memory issues remained.&nbsp; Everything below 4 GiB works fine. Bigger scenes from 5 GiB and larger make Daz crash during rendering. There are &quot;out of memory&quot; messages in the log file. When I check the memory of my GPU with a nvidia diagnostic tool, there is only 45% of memory in use. I tried all kinds of benchmarks (3D mark, Octanebench, etc...) and they run fine on my GPU. I have no reasons to suspect any hardware issues whatsoever.</p>

<p>In the render settings I checked my GPU in the Photoreal tab and everything else (CPU, OptiX) is unchecked. I tried rendering 3 Iray cars (Roland, Astro and Ranger). All combinations of 2 cars are rendering fine. The three of them combined are making Daz crash.</p>

<p>Any advice how I could resolve this issue? Could this be a bug in Daz Studio? <span>I&#39;m trying to master Daz studio, but it&#39;s hard to keep the spirit up when </span><span>it </span><span>crashes all the time</span><span>.</span></p>

      <description><![CDATA[<p>Some days ago I realised there was a new product missing from Smart Content.</p>

<p>I could find it in the Content Library so it looked like it was missing metadata. I tried to re-import metadata and it solved the problem.</p>

<p>But today I was missing another (new) product, which again could be solved by re-import.</p>

<p>So it looks like new metadata are not added when it is installed. I am installing though DIM.</p>

<p>Any who knows what causing this and how to solve it?</p>

<p>Just a quickie, in keymate/graphmate under the &#39;interpolation type&#39; option, there are three methods to choose from. The default is TCB. Is there any way of setting the default to &#39;Linear&#39; so that I don&#39;t have to keep changing new keyframes from TCB to Linear everytime I change something?</p>

      <description><![CDATA[<p>How to explain? Im going to upload a couple pics to show what im dealing with. Im working with recent version 4.10 daz studio. First, im not getting the proper screen when opening daz studio. I dont have the gizmo manipulation tools on the screen. and when I put a character into the scene it shows up only on the auxilary view pane. Also the DIM is showing it is downloading but it is not installing all items. I keep coming up with a screen that says this item does not exist. Im not a computor wizard so im not going to try and move files and stuff. I didnt even get some of the items that come with daz studio. You can see where where the scene tab shows the item but it is not seen in the main viewport. Ive tried going back to default settings and it doesnt do anything; it doesnt put it back to default settings. Even tried different styles but that doesnt bring back the gizmo and manipulation tools.If anyone knows whats happening here I could use some help.</p>

      <description><![CDATA[<p>There seems to be a bug in the OBJ importer in 2.80 beta.&nbsp; The import fails with an error (see attached) if you check the Polygroups option along with Keep Vertex Order in the import options, which I think is the common practice when importing e.g. Daz human figures.&nbsp; So stick to 2.79, or deselect Polygroups in the import options, which means there is no error and the figure is imported but without all your lovely vertex groups.&nbsp; You may not care about them when making morphs.</p>

<p><strong>More info</strong></p>

<p>It seems something low-level has changed and the Python script which does the OBJ import now chokes on creating vertex groups from the group definitions in the OBJ file.&nbsp; I could be wrong, but I&#39;ve reported the bug anyway as I can reliably reproduce it with a simple test case.</p>

<p>I have hacked the Python script to circumvent the error, and get the import working in 2.80 beta.&nbsp; It&#39;s a tiny change.&nbsp; If anyone is sufficiently interested, I will post the specifics.</p>

      <description><![CDATA[<p>When I load the Calypso 2-Bee into my scene, it does&#39;nt appear in the window. It shows in the scene tab though. I&#39;ve looked through my runtime and everything seems to be okey dokey. The Aquad and Mini Sub that comes with the Bundle load fine. Uninstalling and reinstalling does&#39;nt help. Oh, and i&#39;m using 4.8 but I don&#39;t think that has anything to do with it. Any help would be really apprieciated.</p>

      <description><![CDATA[<p>I am using Faceshop 8 and Victoria 4.2 to generate characters because I like the results that I&#39;m getting a lot better than the ones I&#39;m getting from FaceGen (I have the latest version of Facegen Pro).&nbsp; After I have created a character that I really like I save it as a scene file and triax weight the figure so that I can save it as a character as well. I load either the scene or character and work on it&nbsp;</p>

<p>The problem is that when I close that scene or delete the character and then open a scene with a ddifferent V4 character in it, it reverts to the previous character or some kind of combined morph monstrosity. The original figure or sccene is destroyed even though I have not hit the save button. The only work around I&#39;ve come up with is to leave the aptly named DIM running, uninstall the Postgre CMS (Win 64) and then reinstall it before I change the character or scene.</p>

<p>This is not a big deal, just really inconvenient. Why is this happening? Is the C++ code being altered? &nbsp; As I have said, I have a work around but if anyone has a better solution I would sure like to hear it. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p>I&#39;m running on a new Dell laptop and a new Dell Desktop so the computers are not the problem. Perhaps I&#39;ve caught DIM from Daz. Actually I love the program especially the fact that you can make just about anything fit anything else. Just get frustrated sometimes.</p>

      <description><![CDATA[<p>Daz3D is amzaing software, but its installation is horrible.</p>

<p>I have installed Daz3D on a half dozens computers and always have problems. Normally after installation none of the content works, it all shows as broken links in daz (screen shot).</p>

<p>My main issue is that Daz defaults to installing everything on c: which is not usable on any modern computer that has a 100gb ssd and 2tb hd on d:</p>

<p>So I installed, everything went to c:, so I uninstalled everything, then delete every Daz directory everywhere, then tried to reinstalled switching the install manager paths to d: before installing.</p>

<p>Daz3D gets installed on d: as does the content, but when I open Daz, all of the content links are broken.</p>

<p>How to fixed this??? I have reinstalled a dozen times, everything&nbsp; is always broken.</p>

      <description><![CDATA[<p>Hey, I know I should know this stuff by now, but manually installing Daz Content has always been my weak point.</p>

<p>So if I was installing third party content, such as items downloaded from www.sharecg.com or www.free3d.com, to use in DAZ,&nbsp;is there a way to make everythinig accesible from the Smart Content menu?</p>

<p>Right now my third party content is on an external drive, and files are in proper directories for the most part, but I&#39;m still finding it cumbersome and less organized to use that content in the content pane and I find the serch function never works for me.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Is there a way to make all of my Daz content appear in my smart content pane? Like can I give the program multiple directories to assemble the aset catalog from? Or does it all have to be install in one location and on my harddrive?</p>

<p>I love this program and it&#39;s sped up my creative work considerably, but now I need to do something with some custom third party assets and the current configuration is slowing my down.</p>

<p>Any advice from you experts out there would be much appreciated!</p>

      <description><![CDATA[<p>Or, it&#39;s just me being dumb. Here&#39;s what happened... I&#39;m half awake with full cup of hot tea booting up the ole computer for my morning read. I go to set the tea down on the desk missing it entirely as it tips over and spills into my computer&#39;s fans. The entire computer insides get&nbsp;showered with sticky sweet tea and that&#39;s the end of it all.</p>

<p>Fast forward...new computer and thankfully my Daz content was mostly on an external HD, Yay!&nbsp;I installed latest DazStudio and DIM. I am able to see and use my content on the external drive. DIM however, takes forever to load and when it does everything I ever bought is in the Install tab. 13860 files to be exact! So, is there a way to make DIM smart again without redownloading? I&#39;m sure this has been answered before somewhere but I was unable to find it. Thanks in advance to anyone who can answer or point me into the right forum post. Cheers!</p>

<p>Suddenly noticed something strange with the Front-Back slider on both left and right collars of model - it used to be there was a limit on how far I could move a shoulder, in order to keep it realistically positioned, but now all of sudden I can position a character&#39;s shoulder at extreme angles i.e, I can totally go crazy with the positioning so that the character looks deformed. I could&#39;ve sworn it didn&#39;t used to be like that (the shoulder would Front-Back only so far). Did I inadvertantly untoggle some sort of parameter?</p>

      <description><![CDATA[<p>I have searched broadly in DAZ forums and elsewhere and have not found anyone else asking about this problem.&nbsp; But, for me, it has been consistent with ever V4 character I try to load in DS.&nbsp; Her eyes are not in place!&nbsp; They pop out of her body in various directions - usually forward (as shown in attachment) but sometimes backward or to the side.</p>

<p>There is a lot of stuff I can&#39;t get done until I know the solution.&nbsp; Help, please!&nbsp; Thank you!</p>

      <description><![CDATA[<p>I prefer to work with 32-bit files, and always generate a beauty, depth and alpha pass. However, the depth passes are mostly worthless since they aren&#39;t anti-aliased.&nbsp;</p>

<p>When, as is the case in this screenshot, hair or other complex suface is far away from the background, the edges create horrible noise that essentially ruins the image if you use it in post. Is there any way to get proper depth maps out of DS&#39;s Iray implementation?&nbsp;</p>

      <description><![CDATA[<p>When I render (Iray) an image I ususally let it render until the graininess is gone.<br />
Why is it always skin and hair where it disapperas last?&nbsp;<br />
Graininess on clothes and environments disappears long before the skin is grain free (especially the shadowy parts under the chin).<br />
<br />
I understand that shadowy parts can take longer to render but why only the skin and hair and not the clothes?<br />
