So today I downloaded the latest Nvidia driver, 418.81. After that I tried rendering something and GPU-Z started telling me that GPU use was at 0%. I thought it was odd, seeing as how it was just one figure and a 16k HDRI dome. I tried another scene and the same thing happened. So then I tried rendering a simple ball primitive and a smaller 2k HDRI dome, but still the same. I dug into the troubleshooting log and found this:

2019-02-05 21:15:55.827 WARNING: ..\..\..\..\..\src\pluginsource\DzIrayRender\dzneuraymgr.cpp(304): Iray ERROR - module:category(IRAY:RENDER): 1.17 IRAY rend error: CUDA device 0 (GeForce RTX 2080): an illegal instruction was encountered (while launching CUDA renderer in core_renderer_wf.cpp:437)

Among many many other error messages.

It had been rendering fine (sort of) before the driver update so I rolled back the driver and GPU usage is back to normal. I think that something in the new driver update might not play well with IRAY or ray tracing...

Not sure if anyone else has been seeing this, but just wanted to show what I found in case it gets someone else.

It has a lot of morphs for adjusting the dreads, but none for adjusting the scalp portion of the hair, and the only scaling option available is overall scale (no x,y or z scale sliders).

Until the last week or so, I used to be able to select a figure--say, G3M, G3F, G8M, G8F--and I would find ACTOR and POSE controls in the PARAMETERS tab. Now I have no POSE controls and a very, very limited assortment under ACTOR (and nothing there to change things like distance between eyes, or thickness of lips, etc.). I used to be able to, for example, click on a character's hand, and find under POSE in the PARAMETERS tab things like "right fingers grasp," or "right hand fist," etc. That's **POOF** gone. I realize that those ACTOR and POSE options were probably there because I had purchased some time in the past various gestures/expressions for various characters, but I have reset the database, reinstalled metadata, called my DAZ Studio program names that would have made my 3D characters raise I eyebrow if they were no longer unable to do so, all to no avail. I even reinstalled DAZ Studio itself -- Version 4.10.0.123 Pro Edition (64 bit). Nada. Zilch.

How do I get my controls back?

I would appreciate any help the DAZ Studio users who are much more savvy than I am (and there are many!) could give me. Thanks in advance.

Hi!

I'm struggling to rig me an original humanoid figure in DAZ Studio, struggle being the key concept here. Got the polygon groups and the bones already, but I'm having more trouble than usual with them weightmaps. I've already checkd this thread and the official docs, but somehow my stuff dosnt seem to react as expected.

So, my figure's limbs ar actually following their respective bones, but deformations are no good. When I try to edit the weights of any given bone, I find out that said bone is "all red", and it won't let me go blue no matter how much I alt+click. I do can edit the areas surrounding that bone, but that's not good enough to fix the movement.

I'm afraid I might be on some wrong weightmode (TriAx or what) or something like that; i don't really understand most of the tool's (manifold) options and parameters. Should I add any map? Do I change parameters for each bone, or rather apply them to the whole figure? What's binding? Normalized? Uh? Wot?

help plz >_<

I started to render still images with size 4500 x 8000 pix, using iray.

It turns out, that the results are much more grainy then the renders at lower resosution.

Is there a way to get big images renderd out, at the same quality as smaller ones, so they dont look grainy?

Time does not matter in this case. Its a still image and i want the same quality on the big image.

For starters. I have rendered this character before.

I built the skin using Skin Builder.

I've run three completely different sets of lights trying to eliminate the problem.

I've drawn the dome, I've not drawn the dome. This, the SSS is set to mono. I've tried it on chromatic.

render time is set to 40 hours. Render completes in about an hour.

Render Quality is set to 2. Convergence is set to 100%.

Firefly filter is on

Noise filter is on.

So. I am wondering. How the heck do I fix the odd pixel issues?

Is this because I don't have an nvida/intel sysem? I'm full AMD. Would purchasing an nvidia video card solve the problem? I've noticed black pixels on the previous render of the character, but once scaled down from a 4k resolution, they weren't really noticeable. In this scene, the face keeps going all blurry.

The previous portrait printed beautifully. This is going to end up being used as the new cover for my novel. Maybe it will print fine when I render it at a full 4k. However, on my computer screen, all I can see is the odd pixels. I imagine if I fixed them, then the print would be even better. Its driving me nuts. I do have a bit of an OCD problem that I'll admit to. I've been going through the forum. I've tried many ideas to fix the issue. I've gone back to dome and scene lighting instead of using the emmisive plane I made, coupled with a spotlight to light up her face more.

oh yes, and that was a happy accident as I was trying to fix the issue. The spotlight is nice. It looked great coupled with the emmissive plane for the main light. Trying different things doesn't seem to have any effect on the problem at hand.

So please. Enlighten me. What am I doing wrong? Am I going to have to go shell out money for an nVidia card? I don't mind waiting for my ryzen 5 to complete a render. It sucks it doesn't use the GPU I paid good money for. I built the system the month before I got into rendering, so yes, I understand it would prefer nVidia hardware. I'm willing to change if that will fix the issue.

And my pocketbook would be really happy if I can fix the issue without having to buy another video card.

http://fav.me/dcy25e3

For some reason Daz wouldn't let me attach the file. I apologize for the link.

Thank you for your help.

Hi all.

Over the weekend, I updated the drivers for my video cards. I have two 1080's. There is now an immediate and pressing issue with performance. Before. I could render just fine and open and run other applicatoins without issue. Now, after the update, ANY other applicatoin takes about 20 to 15 seconds to respond on the monitor. This has to be some kind of display setting but I cant figure out what it is. ... So as I type this I'm rendering... if I need to backspace, it's a 10 second wait in between each character. ... this is just in a browser. I used to be able to actually open a whole different session of Daz and work in other scenes (poses etc. without issue or lag. I've re-installed twice, then used a driver cleaner to scrub the registry, then re-installed again. It's like going back to Windows 3.1 or something. I can use my computer for everything else or Render.... and if I'm rendering now.. can't do anything. it's nuts.

Anyone got any ideas?

I have been wrestling with camera positions at the edge of a room, where I'm right about at the "fourth wall" of the set, that is, the one side of the room where there is no wall. I couldn't get the camera to take in the whole, staged scene the way I wanted without it ever so slightly going off the edge of the floor near the bottom of the image... finally I hit on the idea of placing a big, wide plane-prim down there, just under the floor, thus extending the vista a few feet out past the Fourth Wall, figuring that would signify "We're outside the wall-you-can't-see, so over here all you see is pitch black." I THINK I've seen that technique used sometimes in comicbooks or something. Anyway, it solved the problem. I can line up the camera view on all three characters, and the angle looks good.

For the plane, I simply went into the Surfaces and set Diffuse Color to black (0,0,0).

My problem is, the black plane wants to be reflective, when I want it to be total-inky-blackness down there. It is behaving like a finely-polished obsidian, when what I want is a totally-light-damping pitch-black. I'm seeing the character's legs reflected in it, which just looks strange and draws your eyes down to that. I then tried setting Reflection Color to black as well but.... nope, no difference. I still see darkly-reflected legs.

What am I doing wrong? Is there a simple, 5-second solution to making the plane 100% pitch black?

Another question about instances, sorry. Let's say I have a scene where a figure is in the center, and arrows are raining down from all sides upon that figure. I load a single arrow into the scene, and then create a group of instances of it. I position the instances of the arrow so they're coming at the figure from all sides. Is it then possible to tell the tips of all the arrows to orient themselves at the target (or perhaps a null placed where the target figure is), or do I have to point each arrow myself manually?

I successfully tested all my gen 3 and gen 8 characters with lip sync in 32 bit using the Genesis3.dmc configuration file. However, I only saved one test with the gen 8 character I intend to animate first. Then I organized my disorganized Daz folder structure (without touching the plugins folder) and now I can't make any characters lip sync (only head nod), except for the one whose test I had saved.

I can delete the saved character's timeline and start over choosing a different sound file and choosing Genesis3.dmc and she will lip sync, but I can't do that with any other model. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I think that HDRI Images are really handy to complete a scene. But I have a lot of them and they are all named differently.

It's hard to tell which HDRI to load into DAZ Studio if you can't see an image (thumbnail) of it, only the file name, which is not very helpful to know which one to select from my folder.

Is there any way to see thumbnails of the HDRI files when you load a different one into the Render Enviroment setting within DAZ Studio?

Or for that matter, is there any Windows program to display HDRIs? They don't seem to be recongnized by File Explorer as thumbnails like regular JPG or PNG files.

I've been trying to follow the tutorial to set rigidity on buttons so they aren't affected by morphs on clothing I created but nothing is happening. I created a rigidity group in the tool settings of the geometry editor, assigned the verts of my buttons to the participants, set a number of verts on the main clothing as references, then switched to the weight tool, created a "Rigid Weights" map, selected the button verts and filled them to 100%. At this point, the tutorial has you clear generated morphs, but when I do that on my clothing nothing happens and when I manually dial the morphs I don't see any change and they are still distorted.

Not sure if I'm missing a step here? I'm trying to use rigidity to fix distortion from fbms like bodybuilder size etc if that matters.

I need a skeleton for art reference and cannot find anything in the DAZ Shop that supports Genesis 8.

So the two options seem to be Midnight Skeleton, which comes with Genesis 3 poses.

And Michael 4 Skeleton which is much more realistic looking to me than Midnight Skeleton, but I am not sure if it's a normal figure to load in DAZ (.duf file) because it only lists these:

What's Included and Features

Features

2 Skeletons for M4 (.CR2 and .OBJ)

1 DAZ Studio Skeleton

1 Poser Skeleton

Does anyone know if the Michael 4 Skeleton will load up like other figures, and if I can use either G3 or G8 poses on it?

Usually, figures, at least G3 and G8 figures, list a .DUF file in the Features section of the product. So this is confusing me.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Hey!

Problem - Dforce Mesh / clothing explosion upon sim.

See _001 here https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCfpUwdqFClYeDn-32Elb5HQ (this is a semi succesful test of the shot)

sim time - 999 frames ... around 970 of those frames experience no issue, in the 900-999 range, the character is pretty much at a settled, motionless state, very little is moving other than the head.

There's a Dforce wind, all defaults except wind strength is reduced to 0.5 .. i discovered if i set it higher, i would get explosions within the first 20 frames or so ... 0.5 seems like a safe value .. though lacks the strength i wanted!

Really need someone with experience in Dforce and the issues that arise :)

I'm familiar with cloth sims in general .. in other apps if explosions occur is usually because the cloth has moved dramatically through an intersecting element and doesnt have the data to calculate the distance the verts have travelled .. so the solution is usually to crank up the frame subdivison levels. I cranked up to 6 already on collisions ...

Thoughts much appreciated! :)

The scene I created is about 1.8 GB loaded into Iray Memory. I'm using 4x GTX 1080Ti to render the scene. The computer has a Threadripper processor and 128GB of memory.

The scene has 200 UltraScatter Objects. 8x Instancing Plus objects (each instance about 10-20 pieces) and about 5 Daz Native Instancing applied.

I can render the scene at 720p using Dome Only in Iray, but if I go any higher (1080p, 4K) Daz crashes.

I set Iray's instancing option to "Memory" rather than Speed, but still getting crashes. Is there any other settings I can tweak to get this to render correctly?

Hello. I am creating products for distribution and I've noticed in my Smart Content browser that the other thumbnails have a larger "preview" than mine do. I made my images the 110 x 143 like the support documentation says. I've also looked at the other "product images" in the Runtime/Support folder. Those are all the same 110 x 143 size. So, where is this larger image stored and how do I set me products to utilize them?

For all the other images (Preset Materials, Poses, and Animations) I do have a larger thumbnail on the mouse over. I did those by using a larger image and the correct nomenclature ("materialName.duf.png" 91px X 91px for the thumbnail and "materialName.tip.png" for the larger 256px X 256px, mouse-over preview for example). I don't see anything like this in the Runtime/Support folder for product images though.

Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

Hey everyone,

Just a quick question about the use of dForce. Is there any way to reset the clothing items to their default shape after rendering the scene? At present I am running the simulation, rendering the scene, then deleting and re-applying the clothes for the next scene / simulation.

There must be an easier and quicker way to reset the shapes without having to do this, is there?

PS: I ask as I am working on a short story, that requires a lot of resets for the next photo etc. As you can imagine it's a pain having to delete all clothing to then re-apply and then apply any non default textures all over again, for the sake of sometimes subtle scene changes from one image to the next!

Thanks in advance
