But when I start modelling, it only does one side. Is there any way I can do both sides symetrically? I've heard adding mirror modifier won't work so I have no idea what to do

I have a recurring issue with Daz where it often freezes with the windows busy mouse icon for some time when I perform an operation like a load or mesh smoothing but none of the windows resources are maxed out. By that I mean CPU usage and disk drive usage are minimal, never more than 15% mostly 1-2% and ram is never more than 50% used system wide.

Daz does not appear to be single threading as none of my virtual CPUs are maxed out and several of them are running at 5-10% so that makes me think this is a windows tweaking issue but I have no idea what to tweak. Any ideas?

I am running the latest 4.11 beta build with a 4.2Ghz i7 4-core, 48Gb ram, 1080Ti and all files are on SSDs. Daz should be running like a bat out of hell but sadly, no.

Hi,

Please correct me if I understand this right. There are 2 types of 'tech' used for dforce hair. The one olds are 'cloth based' ,such as classic long hair, and the more recent one, 'strand based' like the long drape hair.

Issue I'm facing right now, loading the long drape hair into the character, and just moving the camera around (non iray preview) and dragging the animation timeline or even clicking on a specific frame requires ~10 seconds before the screen will response. Hiding the long drape hair does nothing, performance is still the same, only by removing it completely does the performance return to normal. Any advice?

Just to put things in context, the art I'm doing remains the same, I have completely isolated this issue to the long drape hair. Using a 4 series i7 with 32gbram, dual 1080.

I've tried messing around with intensity and stuff but then I seem to get a serious loss in picture quality and the image appears kind of faded or blurry. I'm not sure whether I'm supposed to leave the settings to DAZ default or whether I have have to alter settings according to each individual HDRI.... Any advice at all will be most welcome.

I'm a bit confused as to what exactly it is exactly...

My guess is that Reality uses the LuxRender mode instead of Iray? It boasts up to 20 times faster CPU rendering with seamless integration of LuxRender new rendering modes.

Does this mean that if I purchase this Reality plug-in my renders will speed up by 20 times?

When applied to the figure, it leaves an 'indentation' at the edges around the neck, chest, and waist. However, when it's removed from the scene, the indentations remain, and it just looks something like terrible fat folds, and I can't for the life of me find where I can remove the morphs left behind.

Also, it would be fine and 'realistic' if the actual cloth texture were taking up all of the surface areas, but when applying the SciPatches texture from the Future texture add-on, the rest of the material is invisible, so the folds are still there with no apparent material that's supposed to be causing them.

I could simply start over with a fresh figure, however, I've already applied a lot of morphs to this figure that I can't possibly remember, and I'd hate to have to attempt to recreate her from scratch.

I recently purchased Age of Armour's Graphic Art Cameras, but I can't figure out how to use them, I seem to be missing some fundamental concept. This is what happens: I load the camera into the scene, apply a preset and render - but it's just a photo-real render, no Graphic Art Effects at all. I've used Poser for years but I'm relatively new to DAZ Studio. I've used graphic art shaders in Poser to get various artistic effects (pencil drawing, line drawing, ect.) BUT I'm totally unfamiliar with the idea of getting these effects via the use of a specialized camera. I followed the instructions on the pdf carefully, but I seem to be missing some vital piece of info, probably because I'm a newbie to DAZ Studio and to the whole concept of getting art effects with specialized cameras. I couldn't find any contact info for 'Age of Armour', on the DAZ website, either. How can I get these cameras to work? Any suggestions? Thanks

It seems that when I render the scene, they turn out ugly. The figure on the right has a "DPS face sweat" preset. The figure on the left has individual drops added. Look at the first picture.

In the second picture, all I have done, is to move both of the figures to the center of the world. And now it looks fine. Or at least acceptable.

Can anyone explain this. I am new to Daz and 3D, so I may miss something obvious.

Thank you for your help.

I have tried simulating a dForce enabled piece of outfit (specifically, Wise Wizard HD's Outer Tunic) and, as soon as hair (or beard) comes into contact with the cloth, it sort of pushes it into the skin, exposing it wherever it's touching.

I'm not having this problem with other outfits, so maybe that's specific to that one, but does anyone know of any tricks in order to make it work as it should?

I was hoping someoen could explain how one coould remove or hide specific parts of a vehicle. Big Bill Truck to be exact! I have run into this on other things so I would imagine the answer would apply to all.

I'm finding that many parts are linked together in such a way, that if I try to hide or change a material I wind up changing way more than I want. For inistance, If I click on the chrome exaust it links to fifty other surfaces, headlight trim, roof lights trim etc. Is there a way to single out just one part so it can be hidden or surface changed seperately?

Thanks In Advance!

Ryzen3700x or Ryzen 3900x (Not sure that DAZ suuport Multithread better by now to make 4 more cores on the 3900x worth the mark up)

64GB RAM

RTX2080 Super (only 8GB, but large scenes may aslo exceed the 11Gig mark and fall back on CPU) or RTX2080Ti (11GB) (is IRAY Raytracin something that luks around the corner?)

Btw. I am not so much concerned shelving off some minutes of actual render but rather have the smoothest IRAY "live" preview when working on larger scenes...

I would like to present to all of you a possible solution for when you need to move your content Library from your old hard drive to a new one. In the past I tried many options and software (including payment ones) and my conclusion is that this way is the best one, and turns out to be free, huh.

This method is especially useful when your Content Library already reached thousands of gigabytes of memory or even terabytes.

Sadly, this is a solution only for people using Windows OS. I stop using Mac OS a long time ago and never ever tried Linux, so my knowledge about them is virtually zero at this point.

Also, I always isntall my bought assets manually, so I don't if this whole tutorial is valid or not for people who do otherwise.

1. Which software do we need?

We are only going to need Windows command prompt. This comes with all Windows OS versions as free. You can find it with a short search in your tools bar.

Just write in the search bar CMD and it should appear easily enough. As in my case, it may appear with another different name, so just try to find the right icon.

2. THIS STEP IS CRITICAL. Run Windows command prompt as administrator

Once we found the windows command prompt, we must run it as administrator. If we do not do so we will not have the permissions required to run the whole process.

In order to do so, we can right click on the icon and just select run as administrator.

3. Get familiar with the new window

If we did all the previous simple steps correctly, we should get a window like the following.

If you never used it before just leave it like that for now and just proceed to the next step.

4. Change the directory level of you Content Library directory.

Locate your Content Library directory.

Create a new random folder in the same directory where you content Library folder is located.

Put your Content Library folder inside the new folder we just created seconds ago. Maybe Windows will ask you administrator’s rights for this, in that case, just answer yes to it.

This step is quite necessary since the code we all going to run will copy all files from inside the directory of inside the directory we will indicate, but not that directory itself, so if we don't do something about it, final results could get a bit messy. It’s like our code copies everything inside two levels down of the level we indicate… (I feel my English is not clear in this point, sorry).

5. Writing the code.

Now let’s open the notepad and write the following code:

for /d %i in ("M:\new folder\*") do ( cd "%i" & ROBOCOPY "%i" "E:\daz library" /J /E /Z /ZB /MT:64 /R:5 /W:5 /COPYALL /SECFIX /log:"C:\Users\your pc user id\Desktop\e log\robocopy.log")

Let’s check bit by bit what each chunk means:

for /d ==> means IN (folder_set) DO command

%i ==> wildcard for all files in the specified directory

("M:\new folder\*") ==> the directory where we put our original Content Library folder. Yours could be C: something or wathever. Doesn’t matter. Just don’t forget to put the “” so it works even if our address contains black spaces in between the words.v

do ( cd "%i" & ROBOCOPY "%i" ==> this indicates to do the robocopy function (basically copy function) with all the files our computer may find in our already specified directory.

"E:\daz library" ==> where you want your new Content Library directory. Again do not forget the “”.

/J ==> Copy using unbuffered I/O (recommended for large files).

/E ==>Copy Subfolders, including Empty Subfolders.

/Z ==>Copy files in restartable mode (survive network glitch).

/ZB  ==>Use restartable mode

/MT:64  ==> Multithreaded copying, n = no. of threads to use (1-128)  #

default = 8 threads, not compatible with /IPG and /EFSRAW

The use of /LOG is recommended for better performance.

This is quite handy but be careful with what your PC can handle by itself.

/R:5 ==>number of retries for each file

/W:5 ==>wait time in between retries

/COPYALL ==> include all security info en SECFIX

/SECFIX ==> FIX file Security on all files, even skipped files.

When using /SECFIX, specify the type of security information you want to copy by

                     also using one of these options: /COPYALL /COPY:O /COPY:S /COPY:U /SEC

/log:"C:\Users\your pc user id\Desktop\e log\robocopy.log") ==> where to put the logfile which will be actualized constantly at real time while the process is running. If we do not use this piece of code, every step will be written in the windows command prompt itself which may cause some troubles eventually. Again do not forget “”.

6. Personalize the code with your own directories.

Personalize the code with the directories you may use (origin, destination, and where to put log file).

7. Run the code.

Copy your personalized code and paste it in the Widows command prompt window. Press the Enter key to start running the whole process.

If everything worked well you should see something like this:

For now, we can check the process in the log file from time to time, if we wish. My advice but it’s to DO NOT DO ANYTHING with PC until the robocopy process finishes since it will be under a lot of stress.

Process itself will be faster than we can imagine. From my experience, backing up whole drives with a size of almost 4TB takes two days or less for me (although my PC is quite bulky).

8. Last step. Set manyually your new Content Library directory inside DAZ

Also my advice would be to always have the same Content Library in TWO different sources just in case we may lose one for whatever reason.

It’s important to notice that if we use this robocopy code to do a backup instead of a full copy it will only write new or different files, so in that sense it’s quite handy.

And this is all for now, folks. I had an inspiration stroke and did this short tutorial, but for now, I am full. I may or may not rewrite and explain better some parts in the future, although I believe right now it already has all the important info. I hope it can be helpful to someone, it was to me when I first learnt it by myself. In any case feel free to ask, comment or even improve any part of this tutorial.

Lastly, I do not hold responsability for any messing people could do trying to follow these instructions. If you are not confident in your skills seek for help at your local computer store.

Best regards.

ps. yes I speak spanish as my first language, so please forgive all my spelling mistakes.
