I've been exclusively Mac for decades now, and that's been fine for my general day to day Adobe stuff, and some minimal Cinema 4D work.
But I've been using Daz quite a bit more the past 6-8 months, and have really enjoyed the software - but the render times are so sluggish on my macbook pro's CPU ( d-force is so slow, that its nearly unusable ) that I'm seriously considering getting a pc to do Daz projects on.

• I don't have the expertise ( or time, sadly ) to build a system, so I'd be looking for a something I can buy assembled.
• My projects are more focused on rendering single large images for print ( 4000 px x 4000 px or so ) - not too much animation work yet.
• I travel a bit, so I'd prefer a laptop, but open to a desktop if everyone swears by it.

I am a total PC newbie, and while I've tried to research and read the forums I'm still a bit confused.
It seems like I need a machine with an Nvidia graphics card, which makes sense.
But I'm seeing many different categories of Nvidia cards - plus there is this new(ish) RTX push?

According to https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/studio/software/ It recommends the GeForce RTX 2060 or Quadro RTX 3000 for Daz3d usage.

• Do users agree with that? And if so, do you have a prefence between the two? Is there a drastic difference?
• Is it safe to assume that anything in these two lines with higher numbers ( Ex. Quadro 4000 / 5000 ) offer better render times?
• Lastly, how much RAM should I be aiming for?

Any help / insight would be appreciated. Thank You!!!

How To Backup Your Custom Characters?

Hi everyone! :D

I use Daz Studio to make comics.
That means that I often use characters after years. Probably on different hardware, with a formatted Operative System.
Needless to say, I often lose a lot of data, and I have to recreate my custom characters, at least in part.

With the years, I've learned to use mostly content from Daz Studio, so that it will tell me what's lacking, and install it.
But other times I need to create something myself, or to use other sources.
Plus, I've recently cleaned up my library, to make G8 figures load faster, and I don't want to slowly re-install everything as I check older characters where I've used that sclera or that morph.

So, what's the proper way to backup custom characters?

Is it enough to save the

Character as a scene

Shaping preset

Material preset?

But I have the impression that those save files only work if you already have the related assets installed.
Does the scene file contain all those three data already?

What if I use Skin Builder 8 to backup the skin? What do I need to save exactly? Is the Full Body option enough?
(Of course it's for personal use only, and with assets I've bought).

Thank you in advance!

Some people asked me if it´s possible to export meshes from Mandelbulb 3d into DAZ. A little tutorial:

First of all, you have to update to 1.91 version. This can export meshes in obj format

I attach a capture showing where are the important options to export:

Once you have a fractal parameters charged in program:

1.- To open Bulb Tracer, where you can export the mesh.

2.- Import parameters into Bulb Tracer.

3.- Where you can choose the quality of this mesh to export.

4.- Resolution and oversampling. TAKE CARE OF THIS, it can generate so big meshes.

5.- Choose where you want the file exported

6.- Export ... and pray to your god, whatever it be.

If somebody wants to question something ...

All of my old files are backed up on an external and I can still load those up fine in the program (I didn't copy over all my files because it'd take forever and I was having glacial load times from "duplicate file(s) found" for both my G8 Female and Males. I think something happened during the conversions from G3 to G8 that caused it and I couldn't find the original source of files to delete so I figured I'd start new).

Now, this is happening. Can anyone tell me if it's a missing file or if I just need to reinstall everything (again)? Thanks in advance for your help!

I have have a few items in my library that require Victoria 4 specifically - NOT Victoria 4.2 (which I already have) even though I realise V4.2 is essentially an upgrade for V4 etc. etc. - I want them to *just work* without any of the 'cannot find nnn texture/mesh/UV/whatever' errors I have been getting.

Example: If I try to load the 'Jai' figure, I get:

'The selected files could not be found: data/daz 3d/genesis 2/female/uv sets/daz 3d/victoria 4/victoria 4.dsf' - 'May' is another figure that won't load due to missing V4 stuff. Obviously if V4.2 was a direct replacement for V4, I would never see messages like this, SO I look in the store, and I'm just about to bite the bullet and buy what appears to be V4, with this link... https://www.daz3d.com/victoria-4-for-genesis-2-female until I notice these 2 little lines...

'Compatible Figures: Genesis 2 Female, Victoria 4'

and... 'This product contains only new shapes for Genesis, there are no user-facing files.'

...so it's it's not V4 but only merely compatible with V4, and does not contain V4? If it doesn't contain all her files, I'm still going to get the same errors, yes?

How do I get Victoria 4, the actual thing, with any required associated files and stuff? Is that link the real deal V4 or just a couple of morphs?

Hi folks.

My current hard drive seems inoperable so i'm going to do a fresh install of Daz. I'd like to use the speed of my ssd, but it doesn't have the capacity to store all my downloaded items/mats etc., so i was wondering how bad of an idea it is to install the client on my ssd and everything else on a new hard drive. I'm concerned about constant read/write cycles wear and tear and on the time that would take over an ssd. Would it be better to buy a high-capacity ssd and install everything on that, and sending the renders to the new hdd? I'm looking into building a new pc soon anyway, so throwing in a 1tb ssd is an option (even if i only use it for daz).

Thanks for your consideration :)

Anyone can pass a Bvh file to a duf as an animated pose.
One by one...
But suppose I have 200 bvh to convert to Duf. It will take days ..
In my case, I will have about 20,000 bvh´s ... (That is, a few years to pass all that to Duf ...)
Although I have a bvh to json converter, dson is not the same. It does not even respect EcmaScript in any case. Jslint (http://www.jslint.com/) can help you see errors, like using tab vs. spaces, etc ... It is not really a json a dsa file. Is there any way to find a concrete method of making the structure of a dson? From what I see, there is a "peculiar" structure, since it bases the movement of a bone on an array of all keyframes, for example: "" url ":" name: // @ selection / lCarpal1:? Scale / general / value "
"and produced an array subset of each frame in vector form. (Although they are not used ...).
In the Daz documentation, he hardly comments that it is a javascript, ecma, and qtscript subset ... but he never specifies the structure or its structure when making a transcoder / converter.
This is a tremendous mess !!

As stated in the title my Daz Studio has been crashing when I run the script for Fit Control on genesis 8 females (Only one I tested so far). The script from the same product for removing morphs worked without crashing Daz Studio successfully however. I tested this on both the 4.12 beta and ver 4.11, and used the 4.12 beta postgre, goz, etc. at the time. I am attaching the error report along with this post in hopes that it may better enable some one to help me resolve this. Thank you.

8-28-19 - As an update I have loaded the figure I was trying to use the fit control script on onto another computer I use, and was successfully able to apply the script to the figure. The computer which I had success on was not up to date with the lates 4.12 beta content, but nor did it have some other products I had bought recently installed. So I will continue to try to debug this.

Would like to take things one step further by trying to make some clothes for my characters and perhaps one day in the far future create 3D architecture, props etc.
Would anybody be able to point me in the right direction eg. what kind of software, plug-ins, etc? I chanced upon Blender which seems like a very interesting open source software but I am sure that it takes plug-ins or other software to start learning from absolute scratch how to make outfits for my Daz characters...

I recently un-installed Daz and moved my content to a different drive as I'd run out of space. It looks like everything transferred and the directory structure appears the same (with the exception of the drive name). I used the search function in the new installation of Daz to locate the directory and it appears to have fount everything, but functionally it's different in that I'm noticing most (99+%) all my morphs are gone from the slider-list view. The figures and shapes are all in the smart content directory, but I can't apply them.

Any suggestions as I don't want to download 1.3TB of files again.

Hello all, a while back and I had purchased I had purchaced Sku #17331 Ultramarine Ocean:

https://www.daz3d.com/ultrumarine-ocean

I have not used it until now. When I load it up and do an Iray render, it comes out all black. I quickly realized that this is due to the fact that the pack has a skydome. While I do know a couple tricks with converting skydomes to Iray, this one has me stumped. After converting the skydome to Iray, this is what I get:

So yeah, it doesn't look anything like the picture in which I want to create that shimmering wavy look of the water surface overhead. I would like it to be less blue and clearer like in the photos for the product. I am curious if someone who has this pack has figured out how to use it with Iray and I could use some assistance it getting it to work for my renders.

Thank you,

When I examined Current Hardware Features from my Edit>Preferences menu, I noticed that under the Maximum Number of Lights, it says Number of Textures: 8
What does this mean?
Surely it can't possibly mean that I can only use 8 textures in my renders!?!

Thank you for any help in understanding this, I'm trying to familiarize myself with the program a bit.

Also, I don't have an NVIDIA card, I have AMD, and don't plan to every get an NVIDIA card. Is this going to make my work in Daz Studio Pro not look very good? What exactly does this NVIDIA Iray do that my AMD can not?

Thanks again!
