All eight Japanese dishes have finally arrived! Are there more? I tested the second set, and it worked very well. It's interesting that the food's texture changes are represented by "Morphs" instead of making a props.

I really like this series; the effects are great and it's very practical. Whether it's food, buildings, or clothing, I almost exclusively buy products that "contain transformation mods" now. I already have a ton of those "just for show" products. But I'll definitely collect the entire food series. It would be perfect if there were mods for serving food with utensils and mods for taking a bite out of food. I suggest PA could add add-on products. Anyway, I'm really looking forward to the next food series. I wonder which country's cuisine it will be?

if you could only buy one, which set do you like the best? Is there one that stands out as more realistic or better morphs, better textures, or all they all about equal?

  • Culprits or Fixes for Teeth Issues on G8.1F?

    crosswind said:

In short, yes, the issue comes from a combined auto-follow morph when you (or a content creator) customize or convert a character, especially with Mouth Realism set as 100%. They're sort of baked rather than hidden, so you have no way to find them from Parameters pane. Therefore better always zero Mouth Realism first of all when customizing especially converting characters ~~

If you get such an issue on G8 and want to fix it, the common ways can be:
    1) Clear all morphs / deltas from the geometry of mouth (incl. teeth), re-rig it and update Full Head Morph or create as a fix morph
    2) Or, zero Mouth Realism 1stly, then fix the teeth by using some products, e.g.

  • The "The Weather Changes More Often than the Thread Title" Complaint Thread

Complaint:  Mini-adventure this morning was more than I expected.  Long story:  My laundry day breakfast at Burger King, just a toddle away from the laundromat, is usually very quiet.  My bus gets there at 8:10 and I see the same group of 8 or 9 retired men gathered in a group just chillin' at the tables in the center of the room as they apparently do every day.  I sit along the back edge of the room and face the window looking out onto the street.  Nobody speaks to me.  I eat one of my two Jr burittos & tater tots, drink my coffee & OJ, and stare out the window watching the world go by.  Then about 8:20 a woman perhaps in her late 60s comes in and sits with the guys, pulls out her tablet and proceeds to show off her photos to anyone she can find polite enough to feign interest.  I see this same scenario every time.  Nobody is ever enthused to see more photos.  A few months ago she glommed onto me, came over sat down and started showing her photos.  I recognized one of the people in the pictures as someone from my hometown and in my high school class ('62-'66).  I mentioned this and she said "Oh, that's my sister, I hate her".surprise  This person from my high school class is someone I often have lunch with when my BFF from NYC comes into town and gets our old group together for lunch at Olive Garden.  Great time, good people, long, long, long time friends.  And in fact I now live next door to her 98 year old mother.  Regardless, the tediously intrusive woman in Burger King goes on-and-on about her dislike for her sister (my friend) and other family squabbles.frown  I didn't want to hear that, but listened politely without encouraging her to stay at my table.  So, that was my first encounter with that woman.  the next time, several weeks later, another laundry day, I'm casually eating my BK breakfast (same items) and the woman comes in, wanders directly past my table (same spot), grabs my still wrapped, spare Jr. burrito off of the tray, and walks off with it smirking.  I very quietly, but as seriously as a growling wolf say "That ISN'T funny".angry  She puts it back, gives me a dirty look and goes over to pester the 8 or 9 retired men in the center of the room, pulling out her tablet of photos, and playing music loudly when they lose interest.  I've seen her a few more times but I just let the old men handle her.

HOWEVER, this morning as soon as she walks into the BK, she blasts some 1960s rock music and starts dancing around the room exclaiming "It's my mothers 98th birthday!".  Everybody looks up but nobody says anything, but the collective looks from me and the others must have had effect because she turned it off before sitting down in the old man group.  About 15 minutes later she turns on her music again, loud, I mean LOUD, window rattling LOUD.  About one minute of that and I screamed out (to be heard over the music) "THIS ISN'T YOUR LIVING ROOM!"  It took 10 seconds for that to register and she did turn it off, but gave me the finger.  I then said in a normal voice "Just wanted you to know!".  A couple of the men turned toward me and gave me sign that they agreed!  (Whew, I thought I'd overstepped my boundry).  At that point, I'd thought that the event was over, and that she was under control, but no.frown  A few minutes later she came over to my table and started rattling on about my yelling and how she had been a nurse (which I thought was entirely relevant to the price of tea in China)cheeky  Somewhere in the brief interchange that we had I was informed that I was going to hell.  I retorted loud enough to have witnesses, "Look, I'm not interested in your music.  I'm not interested in your photos.  I'm not interested in your family squabbles, and I'm not interested in you.  GO!  AWAY!"  Flustered, she repeated that she used to be a nurse, again entirely relevant to the price of tea in China.cheeky  She went back to her spot at the group of men, one of which turned to me, circled his finger around his ear, nodded at me, and I nodded back but I noticed that she noticed the interchange.  All was quiet after that and I left a few minutes later to go do my laundry.  But I think I might have encouraged some of the men in the group to stop putting up with her without saying something.   If not, then I guess I'm going to hell.indecision  (I would have liked to have been a fly on the wall after I left.)

Short story, TLDR:  Irritating person in Burger King got reminded of civilized behavior and told me that I'm going to hell.  Not worried.  Been there, done that, writing the book.devil

The contents of the Gold Ticket DO bundles so far have been excellent, and today's are also excellent, but I especially love "XI Luxury Shop." The theme and store design perfectly fill the gaps in our product line; it's arguably my favorite "shop" this year.

Today’s GT bundle is once again very generous. Even so, I only bought it because of Xivon’s Luxury Shop and Neftis3D's hair. Although I like Colm Jackson’s models, I really don’t need any more white young women in my life. Similarly, I neither need nor want high-heeled, seemingly ill-fitting shoes or anything like the Urban Crush outfit. And I generally find clothes (and hairstyles, btw) designed according to the ‘Vokuhila’ principle (the German acronym for 'Vorne kurz, hinten lang', meaning ‘short at the front, long at the back’) to be disproportionate.

  • The "The Weather Changes More Often than the Thread Title" Complaint Thread

Complaint = Frustration to the MAX: Two days of computer and iPad/iPhone updates and fighting with DIM (updates failing) and no metadata on two products sold in a bundle and a shader set brought from Rendo to DAZ3d and I was hoping for some time today to get back to tutorials. Nope. My favorite iPad stopped charging. I cleaned the port, tested all my available cords and doo-hickeys and nothing changed the charging symbol to green. Everything worked fine on my other, newer iPad. And I couldn't get the iPad to reboot. Well I found another update iOS 27.0 waiting available to be loaded, if I wanted it. After install the iPad started to charge again.

I just wanted to let anyone know if they are having this issue, check to see if an update is que'd up. It pushed my iPad into a reboot and fixed my problem.

The failing DIM updates, well I had to totally uninstall, delete all the files and manually download the updated files and one-by-one, install new files as these were two sets of Now-Crowd Billboards, Office Life and School Life and since 14 Sept they kept failing. I am so glad I have unlimited TBs now.

The thing is, there really is no official, customer-facing DAZ statement on AI use at all that I can find anywhere. Maybe I haven' t looked thoroughly enough, but in this day and age, I shouldn't have to. If PAs feel comfortable using genAI, then they should be comfortable owning up to it. They could just let us now in the product descriptions going forward, if DAZ feels they cannot enforce any AI policies themselves.

No, there's is no official statement. You get it only when you contact customer support. And from their behavior it seems that they think that having that policy in place solves the problem. They don't seem to be enforcing it in any way or even interested in doing anything.

And while I wish Daz had a filter for AI generated or assisted assets, I also know that there are people out there who use AI for images, text, and other things, but they pretend they don't, so I can see why Daz is just choosing not to do anything, because any system is only as good as the people using it are honest.

I've given myself a general moratorium for now on not buying new stuff that i might want to use for publishing videos and such elsewhere if it's produced after 2024, and if I can't find what I consider sufficient indicators online that the PA was not or at least not predominantly using AI. But this gets so tedious so fast and takes ages to do for every single new product i might want to use. So I buy a lot less now, and will continue to do so.

I know what you mean. I keep a list of PAs I will not buy from which might not be correct and might be catching non-AI PAs in the net because there's no way to be certain, and Daz certainly sweeps things under the rug rather than address concerns. My spending has also dropped proportionally to my trust in the company, and whenever I see products that to me look similar to AI slop in new releases, my enthusiasm for shopping wanes really quickly.

Just a quick update on this because I feel it might be of general interest, customer service just got back to me with the exact same explicit statement, that genAI is not allowed for PAs here. They do admit they might not be able to catch it all if it happens regardless (makes sense), but one can drop them a line if a product looks suspicious. I've asked them to consider putting this as an official policy up on the website, but they're never very keen on changing things here, so probably won't happen. Still, I think it's a good thing they're keeping this up.

Edit: I think we should actually start doing this, write to the help Center when something looks sus.

While I don't consider tattoos desecration, there are certainly some really unwise tattoos out there.surprise  I find neck tattoos (especially ones that frame the head) ridiculous, but hey if you find your social position with one, more power to you.frown  There could even come a time when people without tattoos are shunned for lack of imagination or proper social labeling.  It's all subjective.  They do however send a message and tell a permanent story.  But not everyone wants to know your story all the time.  Discretion is the better part of showmanship (appologies to Shakespeare -- Henry IV, part 1)wink

One of my neighbors in the other half of this house was heavily tattooed including neck and face.  Nice guy, muscularly stocky, biker type, nice wife, nice kids, nice dogs, great cook, did a mean Yule dinner brisket and they included me in their Yule celebration dinner each year they were here.  I kinda liked him.  But he was the guy for which the swat team was outside my kitchen window yelling through bullhorns and with guns drawn, using up all sorts of cop equipment.surprise  He'd been seen walking down the street with a rifle and was reported by some overly zealous neighbor who said he looked threatening.  Nothing major came of it, he surrendered after an hour or so and was back in the house by midnight, but had to give up his new rifle.  He just didn't like cops.

Yeah, i have a few tattoos, one is a neck tattoo that i got after I saw from Dusk Til Dawn, one of my favorite horror movies. It can be covered with a collared shirt though, so is not so bad as some. I had a few piercings in the past, none now though. I worked in the corporate world for many years and it was never an issue. And everyone has tattoos these days, nobody cares unless you have face tattoos or something really extreme.

Speaking of that neighbor, the police will visit you for pretty much anything these days. I got a vist from 2 FBI agents and the sheriff a few weeks ago. I don't even own a gun, never have. Never broke a law in my life besides speeding tickets. They acknowledged right from the get go that I was not under arrest, they said they were just part of a new task force on "anti-something-ism" (you can guess what that something is). But they questioned me for 2 hours. They were there just to initimidate me. I don't think people realize how bad things are right now. Being against bombing school children will get you visited by the FBI, who would have thought? We live in strange times.

Lastly, today I found out the origin story of the Tin Man in the Wizard of Oz. I never read the books before so I had no idea, holy moly that is dark. Extremely disturbing. In case anyone is curious:

The Tin Man’s original backstory in L. Frank Baum’s books is a gruesome tale of self-mutilation and body horror. He was originally a human woodsman named Nick Chopper who fell in love with a Munchkin girl named Nimmie Amee.

To prevent the marriage, Nimmie’s employer hired the Wicked Witch of the East to curse Nick’s axe. The enchanted axe then chopped off his limbs and torso one by one. A tinsmith named Ku-Klip replaced each severed part with tin, until Nick was entirely made of metal, except for his heart. The curse forced him to cut out his heart, which caused him to lose all emotion and wander the woods until he rusted.

In later Oz books, the narrative becomes even darker: Ku-Klip collected Nick’s severed human parts and used "meat glue" to construct a hybrid creature called Chopfyt from the body parts of two different men, which Nimmie Amee eventually married.

  • Using Characters in Graphic Novel?

You can use characters or sets from the Daz store in a book for sale without an additional license (provided they're not one of the few products with an editorial license), the standard license covers commercial use of 2D images or animations made with content sold here (including freebies you got from the store). And yes, you can use them as is if you want to.
You will need to check the licensing agreement for content you got from other places if you used some. Content bought at a store like Renderosity would typically be ok too, but for example some freebies don't allow commercial use.

    jmucchiello said:

Let's remember we need two file sizes: download size and installed size.

If you have a product installed with DIM, it can give you both (export data to CSV).  So, theoretically, if someone should happen to own all the products in the store and have them installed, you could get the data for all the products that way.  More realistically, you could combine data from multiple people using DIM and probably get data for most of the products.

Highly unlikely given that it's a.) really old and b.) that 3DU is running a comments thread on their own website's newspage asking what figures should be re-released next on Renderosity, and in it they let it slip that Haybilly would be getting a Genesis 9 re-imagining ala what happened with the toon horse.  With that in mind, the odds of any updates to the stand-alone original or even a re-release of the original product would seem to be seem fairly remote..

The fact that the end user should have to make such time consuming modifications says a lot about a PA. Something like creating a rigged car seat during the design process should be second nature by now.

Are PAs under pressure to quickly provide products for release? It seems there are a lot of corners being cut by certain PAs recently.

No, it shouldn't. If you want a fully rigged automobile, there are websites where you can license them for hundreds of dollars. On a car, you could create a list of hundreds of items that could be rigged. Determining which one are necessary would not be agreed upon by every designer or buyer.
