Top Seller Tuesday Gen 5 Icons

Okay, what the hell!? So, according to Daz themselves, characters like David and Freak didn't sell well to continue post-Gen 5, yet they and their bundles are amongst the "Top Sellers" of the year 2013. Even the Young Teens Julie & Justin are there (though, we know they are getting Gen 7 iterations, anyway). So, something doesn't add-up. How can something be considered an overall "top seller" and not make it into the future Generation lines?

I was looking more closely at the 2015 stuff... Looks like where male items are concerned, only the bundles are among the top sellers. No clothing items for males on the list, and no add-on characters (aside from those in the bundles). I'm also a bit weirded out by the fact that the Genesis 3 Male Body Morphs show up in the list but not the head morphs.

An interesting observation. In addition Jayden and Brodie are in the Top Selling 2014, when we were told very recently that they sold poorly. Maybe they only sold poorly on intro, but were picked up by many more people later in sales.

Lilith 6, who sold very well (or so we were told), is not in the sale at all. Girl 6 is also missing.

They could be "top sellers" when you compare to regular store items but still have sold really poorly compared to other character bundles. Or they might have sold badly on release and made most of their sales number as a huge discount, so the total number of sales is not that bad but the revenue generated is quite poor and doesn't justify the investment.

I was just heading over here to comment on this thread, and you beat me to it :)

You're absolutely right in your statements above.

    Well then, nevermind, i suppose.

So, now I'm curious. I remember you said that in wake of characters that don't sell well you try something else. You already dropped that Aiko 7 is getting a new Anime male counterpart, and I am under the perception that characters like Gia & Gianni are more Real World-style replacements for She/Freak. So, what does this mean for a David replacement? Is Stephanie 7 going to get a new man as well?

That may well depend on if/whether/when Stephanie is released. She came out very late in gen4 -- which had no David, and fairly early in gen5 -- which did get a David, but at the very end of the gen5 series. Stephanie 6 was unpartnerd as well as Steph 4.

We're working our way through an odd-numbered series. One which already is generating more base figures -- both male and female -- than any series before it, I don't see why it would be so difficult to name one of those male figures David. People will complain that he isn't like David 3, but people always complain. Aiko has been fairly widely different in each iteration she's had, and will probably shift again when she comes out in this series's version. But people always seem to accept her as Aiko.

Considering the way character releases have started changing for G2 and continued for G3, are we getting to the point where future generations might not have such a thing as a collection of "base figure" characters any more? The system worked well for pre-Genesis Unimesh figures, but with the current Genesis technology, the nearest thing to a base is really G3F and G3M. Everything else is just a character.

That was also true for A4, G4 and S4, they were just morphs of V4, and all generation 3 characters used the same mesh. Indeed there is only one true base character for each Genesis generation, however the official DAZ bases do give PAs, and others, a starting point, should they wish, for other characters, so they could be thought of as sub-bases.
