Terradome 2 for DAZ Studio?
in The Commons
Now that Runtime DNA is part of DAZ will we see Terradome for DAZ Studio? When I used to buy from Runtimes old site I was always envious of Terradome especially when it was updated to v2. Does anyone else here wish to see TD2 for DS?

I would love a DS version of Terradome! Everything I'vee seen of it looks fantastic!
Last I heard they were looking into doing it, the main problem is that at the time Terradome 2 was made Poser was capable of doing things that Studio could not (at least not easily), whether that is the case now I am not sure.. Even the older Terradome though it could load into Studio the landscape morphing poses and controls did not work and the scene had to be created in Poser and exported to Studio..
Would I like to see a DS version of Terradome 2 yes I would will we likely see one done, will have to wait and see..
I feel the same as the OP. Really hope to see it happen.
Given the relocation to DAZ, I imagine that the sales pressure for a DS equivalent will eventually result in something similar being released. Of course, it would probably be better to NOT call that product TerraDome, since the existing TD add-ons all use a lot of poser-specific materials and won't be cross compatible unless they're all heavily redone as well.
I have both the original terradome and terradome 2 I would love to see one or both studio compatable.
I'm sure the morphing can be worked out but as I understand it the main problem is the terrain shaders. Something about altitude and slope sensitive. 3Delight is probably capable so it's a matter of whether Studio has implemented any of it. But, wow, I'd love to have it!
I believe the dome uses a lot of procedural shaders, rather than just texture maps, which is how most meshes are covered. I believe this was because the domes were so big, so to get a nice varied spread over such a large area, procedual shaders would do a better job that tiled textures.
Procedural shaders are highly specific to an individual render, and will vary a lot in how they achieve the particular look the modeler desires. 3DL has procedural shaders, and I am pretty sure iRay does as well, but it would be a major task to convert the procedural shaders that Terradome Poser uses to another version.
The morphing stuff would likely be less of an issue.
Shouldn't be a problem. The terrain in carrara uses procedural shaders, I know as I have exported them for use in DS and it gives you the option to export the procedural shaders as a texture map which doesn't translate as well. Personally I am NOT a fan of procedural shaders, but I also would love to see a version of terradome for DS
Hi everyone! I would love to talk about specifics..... but I can't LOL
HOWEVER...... Yes there will be a TerraDome for D|S :)
But that's all I can confirm.
On the TD2 The textures/shaders are all map based, what was proceedural on them was the mixing of two or more textures - so we used things like normal based blending, height based, and random through noise nodes, etc to break up the texturing and give it a more realistic look.
Yay!
I'm really looking forward to that. Maybe I will be able to finally retire my copy of MicroCosm
The Land morphing is done with a Python Script, Daz Studio does not support Python (as far as I know). This give you a much wider range of morphing and give you some random values so every time you invoke X it isn't quite the same. I am not sure about the shader issue, I will need to pull out my copy of Poser 9 and try it. I did buy TerraDome when they put it on Sale last year when TerraDome II came out.
NOTE: There is a nice place holder, which I believe is now in Daz's control:
Until the Artists and programers can get either TerraDome working in Studio; it would be great if Daz would revive and release the MicroCosm and Moduelz products, which were in Deep Freeze last year. i would hope when they purchased RDNA, they got these as well.
For those who don't know, MicroCosm and Moduelz was a very large set of products. Square and circular ground planes with a Large library of morphs. They were supported with additional models, like roads, building, skydome and then a wide variety of textures and accessories, to use with them. I think there were 14 different grassland product alone.
The below was made with MacroCosm ground and morphs. (the box is from Instance Plus+ this is just before I dropped a bunch of plants on the model)
This is using the same base, different morphs. All the plants are now here at Daz and I used DragonStorm's Instance Plus+ to fill the field (in about three minutes), with 10 instances of about 20 plants, Also the Cave, Rock face and trees were part of the Moduelz product line, all made to work with MicroCosm.
So I am all for TerraDome for Daz Studio, but until it happens or someone build something like it; maybe we could convince Daz to rerelease the MicroCosm and Moduelz products, and put them in the PC+ Library.
Haslor
WHOO HOO!!
And here I had just about given up hope due to all the complexities that have been described. in various posts.
excellent news. my cart is waiting patiently for this one
excellent but can you confirm or deny that there will still be a terraDome for Poser 11?
The one time I got this to (sort of) work in DAZ I had to set it up in Poser, export the ground as object and somehow I created/exported the blending mask.
Import the terrain into DAZ, duplicate it, apply one of the textures to a copy. Then apply the mask to to texture that stuck up more.
Here's the mask (based on the asteroid), but I can't remember how I made it. (This was last July.)
I remember I also made an Inverted copy originally for the other object plane, but it wasn't needed, but I may have raised one of the two planes a click or two up on the Y axis.
3 delight and iRay renders
What doesn't work in P11 on TD2?
Great news. Ive wanted Terradome ever since I started this little hobby of mine.
No clue as I have not gotten it yet for some reason I thought it would not work or something stupid.
That's such great news Trav. YAY! Looking forward to this release. I can just see awesome Iray renders with TerraDome and all of it's add ons. OMG!
Fantastic news...I love the look of the Terradome products!
