Install failed!

There seem to be many problems with "Install Failed!" in DIM right now, actually I dont think I've experienced the problem before the last week or so. Is this a DIM problem? I though it was related to the new RDNA files but now I also got it for an old DO, The Legendary Griffin.

Not particularly a DIM problem...it seems to me, though, that this last update (if you are running the latest version) has become much stricter on file names.  Not sure if that is due to something in DIM or if the compression libraries are more strict.

DIM was updated last week I think so it may very well be related to that update. The files install fine manually and works fine in DS so to me it looks like it has to do with DIM one way or another.

When you decompress the package manually look for any files that have 'illegal' characters in the name...including leading spaces.

Although DIM was updated the updates didn't affect areas touching on installation - http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/public/software/install_manager/change_log_1_1_0_62 . Daz has also recently switched servers, fallout from that may well have interefered with successful downloading in your case.

Illegal in which context? Some characters are illegal in file names in Windows but I doubt any product file names contain any of these otherwise you wouldn't be able to save the files and zip them in the first place. I don't know with olders version of Windows but in Win 8 leading spaces in file names are OK.

If it's DIM or DS that don't like certain characters I can try to check for these, but I'm not sure what to look other than those leading spaces you mention.

Well I've both tried to re-download the zips in question and do integrity tests in in WinRAR and they're not corrupted, and installs fine manually.

The following 4 give an Install failed when attempting to install through DIM:

    • SeaFolk KelpBra for V4 and A4 / SKU 30097 (& in the Pose folder path)
    • Wings for Baby Unicorn / SKU 27733 (& in the Pose folder path)
    • Wings for Unicorn / SKU 27714 (& in the Pose folder path)

    Greetings,

I can't install the 3rd package of Everyday Fabric Shaders Iray, due to an error with a specific file.  I hadn't run a test on it, but 'unzip -t IM00024198-03_EverydayFabricShadersIray33.zip' shows that it's actually got an invalid file.  I've deleted it, and am re-trying the download to see if it's from the server, or local corruption.

    Could not extract file : /Users/mrs/Dropbox/My Library/Runtime/Textures/JG/Fabric/plaid/jgplaid12_N.jpg

+1 on Wings for Unicorn. Never could install it via DIM.

I had this issues a little ago for some of my older files. For those failed installs, I had to manually download the item and install into the content library. The biggest trick was finding the content library though smiley. This suggestion isn't a solution - but it is a valid workaround.

OK, thanks. Can't see anything that looks illegal in the Griffin zip though.

Someone suggested to check the log file, here's what I got for these files:

Product failed check, moving to next product : IM00024617-01_KikiClothingPack1Rompers.zip
Install Queue finished in 0 min 0.0 sec.

Product failed check, moving to next product : IM00025478-01_ToonCourtyard.zip
Install Queue finished in 0 min 0.4 sec.

Installing product : The Legendary Griffin
    Could not extract file : C:/Users/Public/Documents/My DAZ 3D Library/Runtime/WebLinks/DAZ Productions, Inc/DAZ Free Weekly Download.pzs
Product installation failed : The Legendary Griffin
Install Queue finished in 0 min 0.8 sec.

As for the first two they still refuse to install after a new download.

The last one suddenly installs fine now, maybe because I already had installed it manually? The error looks familiar, I recall often getting error messages with the old .exe installers for these DAZ promotion files, though it didn't cause the installation to fail.

You know, this really annoys me.  A product install should not fail because it couldn't install an ad.  That seems to be what that file is, an ad.  A link to a page of the weekly freebies.  Do they even use these pzs files anymore?  I don't think so, but I've never paid attention to them, so I don't know.  I think they should be removed from the product zip files, period!  Don't we get enough ads on the website itself?   angry  I wonder if anyone actually tests these things before releasing them.  It should be a standard thing, to test for the presence of one of thes pzs files when packaging the product for the DIM.  In fact, maybe it should be an automated thing to just delete them before zipping up again.

I forgot to mention, when deleting a zip file for redownload, also delete the matching manifest file.  I have found that helps...sometimes.

Hm interesting. I just checked the folder with the manifest files, there are none for the 2 products that won't install. Shouldn't there be one for each downloaded file? Or are they first being downloaded when the product is being installed?

(Adjacent) Package Supplement File, not Package Manifest or Install Manifest. More information - http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/public/software/install_manager/referenceguide/tech_articles/start

Sorry I used the wrong word.  I just know that it's in the same folder as the zip file, from what I remember...it's been a couple months since I had to deal with these.

It looks like these are being automatically deleted if you delete a product from within DIM (which I usually do, I guess that's safer).

: Correct. Using the delete functionality provided by Install Manager (as opposed to manually deleting in the download directory) will handle the zip and the dsx at the same time.

Is this a JGreenlees file?  I all of a sudden am having major issues with her shaders loading corretly I keep getting a missing files error when I double click them.  Started after I install the new DIM update.  I am going to try and go into the files this weekend and see if I can figure out what's going on.  They load fine when I click on merge into scene or drag and drop.  Otherwise I get an error message despite the fact that they have worked just fine for months with zero issues.  and I LOVE her shaders.

Richard alerted me to this thread and i have checked the installer and am not getting an error. I've installed through dim and downloaded the file straight from the store so can you tell me what program you are using to unzip? That map extracted fine and i took a look in my graphics editor and don't see anything corrupted. So any and all info will help in isolating the cause
