If any of this is on your wish list its probably in the fast grab. Some fantastic deals on a ton of these brushes.

Thanks for the heads up. I hadn't checked that since I've been gone all evening. I had all of them except the Blueprints and the new ones so I was able to get the Blueprints. That one has been sitting in my wishlist since it came out.
I really hope I can make sense of it. I keep thinking this might tilt me back toward trying Photoshop again. heh.
I use the brushes in Gimp. Ron's brushes work quite well there. The only things you can't use are the PS specific things that aren't in Gimp and I actually don't remember which ones those are.
I was wondering about that Knittingmommy. Good to know
Daniel
Now that i think about it its good to know but i wouldnt even know where to begin to use any of it. There are lots of tuts out there for making objects but next to nothing on texturing and using those things in a photo environment program. I wish i had some clue where to find anything useful for a beginner. I know how to use the interface....there are 50 million tuts on that but beyond that i am stuck.
Yep got my fair share !!!
Just filled my cart up too.
I love my photoshop. Although I have the photoshop elements which has about 90% of what the full version has and works quite well for the post work options that I typically use. And it was under $100 once so no monthly fee. Ron has some truly beautfiul bruses, I particularly like his water brushes but they are all super cool.
Now I need help, I saw that some of you made Rons brushes work in Gimp so I went and got myself the wisps and the waves. Downloaded them with the DIM but installing didn't work (well, that was expected). I tried to move the extracted folders into the gimp Brushes folder but that doesn't seem to be the place to go with them. So could someone give me a walkthrough with that?
Thankks a lot!
I ended up getting a few things that don't work great, like the scifi custom shape stuff (there's an image file that comes with it, but it's not nearly as good). Plus styles and a bunch of other things.
This might tip me over the edge because I'm also tired of waiting for GIMP to get 32 bit support. mmph.
This might help you: http://www.obsidiandawn.com/installing-photoshop-brushes-gimp-tutorial
Gimp instructions can be found at the bottom of the page.
GIMP brushes folder is the right place for ABR... are you able to open the brushes info at all? (There are some that should just come with GIMP normally)
The problem I have is that the Ron brushes are a lot of memory, so to use them in GIMP I have to make sure only a few are in the Brushes folder at any one time. Which is... kind of annoying.
There can be a bit of a learning curve with the more complicated brushes- what he shows in his promos is most likely numerous layers and adjustments. (I spend a fair amount of time clicking buttons and trying out different layering lol) I would imagine its just like everything else, lots of experimentation and learning. I did buy the flames one as it came with a tutorial explaining how to use those to make them look like real flames. i am going on the premise that the info in that will most likely carry over to other brushes from him as well....
So now,, GImp 2.9.2 support 32 bit? (but I have not installed it though,,)
http://petapixel.com/2015/11/29/gimp-version-2-9-2-brings-1632-bit-support-and-more/
Actually now I plan to get these brush for gimp,, they are in curt now,, but,,, hold my ground,,,,, (I hope most of the brush can work,,without asjuting much,, in GImp,,)
but the product clear discribe,, for Photo shop,, then,, can not refund them,, even though it may not work ^^;
Kitakoredaz: 'This is unstable software, please use it at your own risk.'
Compiling buggy software and hoping nothing breaks doesn't inspire me.
So I'm waiting for 2.9.2 to hit stable release. Waiting. Waiting.
(I just tried to download 2.9.2 anyway... and I can't figure out how to compile it, even, so that's... probably a sign I should leave it alone. I don't know code at all)
thnaks I understand risk ^^ GImp is free as true meaning,,as same as blender,, I do not hesitate to test them. (and Use for test only with separate Directory)
maybe not blow fire I hope,,
. Anyway I could get installer,, whicn is not Complie verison. from http://www.gimpusers.com/downloads/76-gimp-2-9-jan-25th-2013-windows-64-bit
of course,, "plseas use it as your own lisk. (if you try it )"
I followed that instruction, and put the abr in there but no brushes show in my gimp.. (maybe I need to restart my computer?) Ok there are obviously two location one can put brushes I will try the other one. Still open question is: with the waves comes a pack of pngs as well, where do I go with those?
Edit: now I have them in both brushes folders but still no in my gimp to be seen... what am I doing wrong?
I'm not sure what you mean with brushes info? I mean yes I have the standart set of brushes in gimp and I once loaded sucessfull a couple of free ones, which are sitting nicely in my selection for brushes.
Okay, so first, I never install the brushes through DIM. I just download the files manually and then unzip them with 7zip into a folder I made just for Photoshop brushes in my Gimp directory. I keep a holding folder for all brushes because you can't install all of them into Gimp. It gets cranky and won't load if there are too many brushes installed. In the holding folder, I keep the brushes in folders to represent specifics, like Deviny has his own folder, DeviantArt has its own folder, etc. So, once I unzip the files, find the .abr files. Those are the actual brushes. When you want to use a particular brush just copy that .abr file and paste it into you brushes folder in Gimp. File structure should look something like (depending on how your computer is setup):
C:\Users\Knittingmommy\.gimp-2.8\brushes
Once Gimp is loaded you can go down to the lower right hand corner of Gimp and find your brushes. At least, that is where they are on my setup. I'm pretty sure I'm using the default layout. You can load as many brushes as you need for a project and then just hit the refresh button to load them into Gimp. Most tutorials tell you to restart Gimp to load them and I'm not sure why since the refresh button is right there. If you restart Gimp, I usually only have about 6 brush sets loaded to allow Gimp to start. I've had as many as 12 brush sets loaded into Gimp while working on a project. Once you are done, just remember to delete most of them from your brushes folder or Gimp won't like loading and will just stop. This is why I copy the brushes from my holding folder. I don't want to have to remember and track down where each one goes back to. They are still in my original holding folder.
I've found these two videos very helpful in learning how to use brushes in Gimp:
GIMP Tutorial - Beginners, How-to Use New Brush Tools & Dynamics
How to Install and Use Photoshop Brushes
This one is a Photoshop tutorial, but the information is also useful to Gimp users. I just couldn't find a tutorial like this specific to Gimp. Starting at time 9:00 is the part that shows actually using brushes and the techniques are similar to Gimp.
Will - I've attached what I get when I use those two brush sets. They aren't great, but that is because I'm still learning how to use brushes effectively. However, they do load and they do work in Gimp. Let me know if you have any other questions. I'll try to help, but I'm still learning how to use them all myself. I recently just learned that Gimp can open Photoshop's .pat files and I'm trying to track down the all of the info and plugins for that because it sounds interesting.
edit: I forgot to add that the refresh button is the little icon at the very bottom right corner with two blue arrows chasing each other in a circle.
Just making sure you got to that point. Then I have no idea.
Knittingmommy: Oh sure, I've managed to use the brushes in GIMP. I just am irritated to not have access to some of the csh vector shapes. Hmm.
Oh, well, those I have not played with yet. Have no idea how to do anything with vectors!
Knitting, from what you write I take it that I have to many brushes active and that is why they won't load? (becaus I have like the whole right side down and then two times mor of that....) well I will try and remove some of them to a holding and see what happens. Thanks!
Yeah, I've found that Gimp doesn't like it if there are too many brushes installed at start up. I usually try to keep it down to the basic brushes and then maybe just the 2 or 3 other brushes that I use the most before I start Gimp. After it is open, I'll add the brushes that I need for a specific project.
Will - what is the difference between using custom shapes and using brushes?
At some point I'm being stupid here. Within my brushes folder there are subfolders wich are called Basic legacy splatters and some more. Now I created a new folder outside the brushes folder but inside the GIMP2 I called holding brushes and I moved all of the subfolders except the basic over there and expected that with starting gimp new I would see only what was in the basic folder but... no everything is just as it has always been, I hit the refresh button as well but the lots of older brushes still swarm my panel... guess I'll find a german Gimp forum to ask the wholes in the stomach... such a stubborn Gimp...
Thanks for the HU, just picked up a couple of the bundles to try out in Gimp
My apologies for jumping into your conversation, but I wanted to mention a few things in hopes that it may help (I use pShop, but I assume the concepts are valid for Gimp as well). Brushes are much more than simply the trans maps. For example, they can be setup to introduce all sorts of variation (size, opacity, flow, rotation, etc.). These variations can be random, or a function of some other input (like velocity, direction, or pressure).
To take things even further, you can use Ron's products to help create 3D materials where a single brush stroke can change the color, while simultaneously effecting specular maps, displacement maps, etc. So, for example, you could use a blood splat trans map to (a) paint a red color on the diffuse map, (2) add some additional shine on the specular map, and (3) paint in some corresponding height on the displacement map.

Ugh. 2.9.2 has 32 bit support! Buuut won't open exr or hdr file formats. ...
I was hoping I could drop csh files into the brushes folder and it'd work... no such luck. Ah well.
Algovincian: I think GIMP's use of brushes is more limited than Photoshop's, but I'm not very familiar with Photoshop. GIMP seems to handle it mostly like a stamp/clone, though I suspect some of the functions of Photoshop brushes might just not translate. There ARE GIMP brushes that do random/interesting things, like a sparkle tool that plops a randomish spatter of sparkles as you drag the brush.
one more question, when I download and open the ZIP file I have exaclty one abr file in there per package, is hat how it should be?
When I change the ending to gbr and try too open from within gimp it says that there are invalid headdates... le sigh
Yes, there's one abr file which contains all the brushes.
A German language tutorial: https://render-atelier.de/lexicon/index.php/Entry/440-Photoshop-Brushes-in-Gimp-verwenden/
And the png files can be used in layers, like an overlay, that would work in Gimp, too.
Yes, but I'm not sure why you need to change it to .gbr. Gimp will read it as .abr. Which version of Gimp are you using? I use Gimp 2.8.14 for both Windows and Linux. I have only added brushes directly to my user folders and not to the Gimp directory directly so not sure how much different the file structure is. My holding folder is simply called Downloads and is on the same level in my directory as the Brushes folder. Inside Downloads, I have the brushes separated out in folders indicating a particular author or site where they were downloaded, i.e. deviny or deviantart. I've inclued a screen shot of my directory setup. I hope this helps. You would not want me trying to explain in German. I'm very rusty with it.
Ok thanks a ton people, my husband showed me yet another folder that holds brushes und putting them there has made all the difference...
Now I just need to learn to use them properly
