Figures, Characters and Avatars book question

I know this topic crops up from time to time, but I've just found my copy of the Figures, Character and Avatars book. Actually, it's the second of two copies I've owned, my first disappeared years ago, along with the disk. Anyway, I was looking for something earlier today, and I found my second copy (along with some other stuff), that I got as a March Madness Grab Bag in 2011 (I still wear my DAZ hoodie almost every day - it's a shame there's no DAZ merchandise nowadays), but only the serials for Hexagon and Carrara were added to my account when I put in a support ticket, and not the actual content. I can't find the email from when I bought the book originally on eBay, and PayPal doesn't show transactions that old.

Would it actually be worth going through the support ticket route again, especially with having minimal evidence of buying the book first time round, and none from my second copy because I got it free in the Grab Bag (and therefore have no purchase information at all for it)? My original support ticket was from the old ticket system, so I wouldn't be able to re-open it. The only reason I'm asking is that it would be easier to reinstall the content (when necessary) if it were available through my account (and by extension, through DIM) instead of having to use the disk, and obviously there's no metadata with the old installers.

  • There's no harm in asking, they can always say no. If you have your old ticket number that may help, I don't know if there's still internal access to them.

I just checked by going to the help desk, and "Subtmit a request".   In my activities, accessed by clicking on your name up at the top right hand side of the ticket screen, I have tickets going back 8 years, so you may be able to find your old ticket there, to get the number.

They have a bundle item for the book, which for some reason doesn't appear on your product library when you filter for it. You can see if it has been added already when you look up some bundled item like 'Basicwear for V4A4G4 and Elite' or 'Hexxagon 2.5', in case it has been added there is a 'in this bundle' link that shows the book.

Unfortunately the bundle only has few items in it, but not the full content of the disc:

    Basicwear for V4A4G4 and Elite
    Hexagon 2.5
    Millennium Dragon 2.0
    Millennium Dragon 2.0 Upgrade

I guess that's because those have been updated after print, at least I know for sure for the Basicwear, that had a big upgrade some day, which was why I asked for including that version into my library then.

I've actually bought a lot of the stuff again since then (usually when they've been free or really cheap), but none of it's showing up as part of a bundle for the book. All I'm missing is M4 Complete, A4 Starter, and the Modern Apartment stuff.

I'll give the support ticket a go, I think. The only problem is that I changed the email address on my account a couple of months ago, and it seems to have wiped my old support tickets. Hopefully the email from my original support ticket will do the trick.

  • What came on the CD for that book besides Hexagon and Carrara?

  • I think that's everything.

I think the included Carrara was 6 Pro, that could be used for access to 7 Pro upgrade prices after registering with your DAZ account.

What someone need to know is that the software CD came only with 1st Edition of the book (ISBN 9781598638165), but no more with 2nd Edition later (9781435461208).

  • Ok, so other than cararra, nothing I haven't long since gotten for myself. Thanks for the list.

No problem. I already had the disk to hand, so it was easy enough to check.

I got Carrara 8.5 Pro for $32.50 last week from previously having the Carrara 6 Pro serial added to my account. I saw 8.5 Pro for $65 last week (after PC discount, and presumably some other offer I can't find reference to), and I figured it was worth it, especially as the standard version was listed at $104.97 (which doesn't really make any sense, but who are we to question DAZ logic?) When I put it in my cart, the price dropped again. It seems the limited time offer for previous Carrara owners still applies - two-and-a-half years later! The content included (V5 and M5 Pro bundles - I only had the Genesis Michael Victoria Combo Bundle) was more than worth the $65 I was expecting to pay, and way beyond the $32.50 I ended up paying, so I'm glad I got the serials for Hexagon and Carrara added to my account when I did. :)

I love kitbashing and came up with this image using Teen Josie 7 and some of the stuff from the Carrara 8.5 Pro content (clicking the image takes you to the gallery page):

Anyway, I submitted a ticket this morning, so it's now just a case of waiting and seeing what comes of it.
