Reference & Ideation

For anyone interested, I broke down and created a Pinterest account specifically for 3D art. There are a number of boards there for historical reference and ideation. I'm only mentioning it as some might find it useful. The viking board is currently the one most filled out, but I expect the others to gain ground eventually. There are boards on Art Deco, Art Neuveau, Dieselpunk/Steampunk, etc... Take a poke around if it's something you might find useful and let me know what you think.

At first glance, it looks informative, but man is Pinterest hard to navigate around, LOL
Interesting, how do you find it hard to navigate?
I was thinking about what you said and thought this might help.
If one goes to Pinterest, what they see are a list of boards (obvious to anyone familiar with Pinterest but maybe not to someone who isn't familiar with it.) I divided my boards up into specific categories that are specific topics such as; Art Neuveau, Art Deco, etc... and some that have catagory names in front of the specific name, such as; Blender: Fundamentals, Blender: NPR, Toon, and Blender: Video, etc...
Now, the boards that are for reference & ideation such as the Art Neauveau and Art Deco are listed 'after' the Blender boards since I actively work out of those more often. If anyone is interested in the history, period and other boards they will have to scroll past the Blender boards.
I hope that helps.
Pinterest virtually "insists" that you install & use their mobile app
Are you looking at it from a mobile platform? I don't use my phone for it, just the desktop. No app required, just a web browser.
That also might be part of the whole 'hard to navigate' now that you mention it. I've never looked at the mobile version.
You have to create an account and/or log in to even look around Pinterest. There is nothing wrong with that, but I get annoyed on principle. I can't even see enough of the site to decide if I want to create an account. Plus, I hear the site can be a real time drain, and I definately don't need anymore of those in my life. I'm sure what you put together is really good though.
For one, it is popup city for me when I do give it permission to load in FF with a script blocker and I am always asked to log in, which I have no desire to sign up for it. None of this is your fault, just my experience whenever I go there. I tend to block all scripts when I go to a website I don't frequent often and the ones that refuse to let me look around are usually bypassed.
Yes that is a problem with Pinterest, you have to have an account. However, there are a lot of people I noticed who have an account and don't have any pins. I'm guessing they created an account with a throwaway email just so they could log in and browse.
I found another board (luckily s/he started following me) who has some *really nice* boards for ideation. S/he (katya/reginald) also has some very nice boards on the 'following' list. If looking at Pinterest for ideation for art I highly recommend checking him/her out here.
Anyone have a 4K TV? Well even if you don't, 4K videos will make sure you get the most your Screen will offer. I mention it because I added a 4K Video board on my Pinterest for Ideation & Reference. Take a look at Ancient City of Pingyao, Shanxi, China to get an example of what's there. :)
Why 4K? Well for one thing, the level of detail, textures, colors, etc.. are all top notch for reference. But there's also something else. As we move foreward it will become the new norm and we want to consider that when creating our artwork if we want to know how it will stand the test of time. :)
Marrakesh... a new 4K video. Anyone considering an image with a souk? Another benefit of 4K video is that we can pause on any image and get a high quality screen capture for reference. ;)
