At some point I expect that, for a monthly fee, we'll be uploading render files and letting beefy servers crank out these renders.

Yes they do it it already now only waiting for DAZ
but I think the final rendering is the thank you for the time you spend composing it .. I like to watch the process
unfortunately my GTX don't want to kick in with Daz Studio only CPU , the setting was fine I checked .. don't know what happen , maybe to big scene .. but it rendered before
Well there is support for Iray Cloud rendering in the 4.8 BETA Hmmmm???. #christmasiscoming
I've been really impressed with the version control of stuff like Dropbox (not that it's the only one, but it's the one I use), where you can easily update stuff without a lot of work.
In a render cloud network, I could imagine something similar -- you edit files, wait for the changes to get mirrored, then click the 'server render.'

...the cost of online rendering has to come down though as it is still pretty expensive for the average hobbyist. You would still need to run tests on your own system and use such a service just for the finished rendering to keep costs to a minimum.
It also needs to be set up where where you submit a scene to render and you get a notification when it''s done instead of having to remain online throughout the process.
For myself, I'd prefer to keep the entire operation at home unless I was in a position to produce a lot of

Amusingly, this uses almost the same exact skin as the sassy Redhead (I guess you can call this guy the surly redhead)
I just copy/pasted and tweaked some colors a little.
The hair is Basic Hair, using the backscatter approach... it looks decent, but this close/large, the flaws are evident.
Beard is Unshaven Beard, of course.

Moving away for a while from photorealism and HDMI Environments, and trying out the Sun-Sky Environment.
While this picture was rendering I looked through the Daz forums trying to find more information about setting up a scene using the Sun-Sky settings, and the Iray Sun Dial, whatever that is and how it works. Never did find out, so if anybody has any links for using that I would be very grateful.

...actually the Iray Sun can look just as realistic particularly if you use the Dome and Scene mode. The one nice feature is you are not stuck with a fixed sun angle. The scene I am currently working on is set in a courtyard so with the Pixar HDRI (and most others) the sun would be too low and everything would be in shadow at the azimuth I need.
The sun Dial is actually rather simple to use. I prefer it over setting a null or using the time of day/location settings.
--First, load the Sun Sphere into your scene (found in ).
--Next, Open the render settings tab and click on on SS Sun Mode. This will open up a list similar to what you would get when parenting an item.
--at the bottom should be the Sun Dial. Expand the selection to show all three components (Sun Base, Sun Chain, and Sun) Click on "Sun" and that will parent the Iray Sun to the Sun Chain.
--The Sun chain should appear at the 0,0,0 coordinate in the scene. Clicking on the Posing (or Parameters) tab will give you two sliders, one for Azimuth (rotation) and the other for Elevation. This will allow you to position the Iray Sun anywhere in relation to your scene.
The sun sky is as realistic as u can get , you just need a full scene so the global illumination do the job , see tone mapping as a camera set the right values and shot it lol
The secret of the Pixar campus is clear ... the light that come reflected from the lamp statue do a perfect job that why everything looks so nice , without it, it would be another HDRI map ..
...using Jack Tomalin's Invetero. I need the sun art an azimuth of 118° and elevation of 55° for it to illuminate the subject in the scene.

I'm thankful that users are sharing their tips for Iray. I think I've gotten to a point where I like what I am seeing when I render.
Now i need to get to work on the actual scene.

I rendered a slightly more "R" version of this, (was trying to duplicate a picture I had), when I first started playing with 4.8 and IRay and was duly impressed, (once I figured out the lighting within a structure), but got sidetracked by MEC4D and minions playing with the HDRI maps.
Since some of the HDRI maps I am trying to use are being uncooperative and not EVERYTHING can be rendered on the Pixar Campus, (no road for motorcycles... :( ), AND I was supposed to start working on something totally unrelated to renders I took my notes from the PBR Specular/Glossiness discussions between MEC4D and Timmins applied a few of their tips; hit the "Render Art" button and viola!
I guess I am not the only one taking a break from the Pixar Campus... LOL!

I'm very pleased at the approach to hair worked out in the hair thread -- by using diffuse maps in Backscatter and Refraction, it captures some of the natural variation of hair, which is important for normal hair objects.
LAMH hair could also use some variation, but being modeled as individual hairs it doesn't need it as much.
I'm mostly happy with the beard, but I'll be happier once I get my hands on Mec4D's next version.
This is a Genesis 1 figure. I want to upgrade him to G2M, but I haven't been happy with my results so far and I'm debating just leaving him Genesis. hrm
(It occurs to me that Iray might give new life to Genesis, because frankly I think Genesis figures with good skins look fab)
what a character .. Me like it !!! lol
now match better the beard color with the hair would be perfect ! remember that hair specular under PBR never extend 63 sRGB gray scale ...put white color and under the color picker set the Value to 63 or for RGB 63 63 63
the specular level for most all materials is very low and mostly don't extend 59 , if you don't know value for specular color use 59 sRGB
for human skin 51 ..the too coat can be higher depends of the oil but not greater than 187 IOR 1.55

Just had enough time to have a quick play with the sun settings, and do a test render before going to bed. I am pleased with the results, so once again, many thanks for the instructions. Looks like there will be quite a few more days/weeks of more trial renders. :lol:

Also upped SubD on the beard to 3, which surprisingly didn't blow up my computer. ;)

I was playing with the Sun and Sky this evening for a while .. nothing serious just exploring the possibilities with the environment lighting
No postwork ..original render and colors , I tried to make some atmosphere as u can see from the light
I really like the fourth image, Mec4D... looks very natural.
Been playing too and discovered two things. Don't know if it was already mentioned somewhere but I didn't know that
1°/ DOF works with HDR when using a finite Dome
2°/ You can render the HDR as background with the "Draw Dome" option. There is also a second option "Visualize Finite Dome" that tints the inside of the Dome in green and outside in red.
You were also wishing for an Iray Skin shader. I read somewhere (can't find the web page again) that Iray for 3DSmax will get one with a triple SSS layer (which will be better for skin) . Don't know if that will also come to DS

I'm... not happy about the hair. Worked on it for two hours, got the colors... but I'm not sure many transmap-based hair is going to look great in Iray. But it should look fine in longer shots, I think.
I'm contemplating trying to make longer hair in LAMH, but the prospect is veeery daunting. I'd end up having to adjust it for various poses and clothing? Eeep.

It is static prop not even rigged low resolution , I had once a full rigged one but it was long time ago very detailed also with R2

DOF working for me with all spheres not just with finite Sphere , the “Visualize Finite Dome” is for guide you while scaling the dome so you know what you doing and where the sphere is in real time rendering
Also I think I found a bug, when you load plane into the scene with finite dome, and rotate it up the Dome will scale down the HDRI maps down, how bigger the plane how smaller the HDRI maps, I don't know why but it looks like it automatic change the scale if something in the scene is taller in diameter than than the finite sphere weird btw
and also, why dome rotation can't be animated , not even light change while animation, I tried to render time lapse with the sun and animation does not record it , only the camera movement so total thumbs down for now
